  • Recently, analysis researches on durability are focused on chloride attack and carbonation due to increased social and engineering significance. Generally, chloride penetration and carbonation occur simultaneously except for in submerged condition and chloride behavior in carbonated concrete is evaluated to be different from that in normal concrete. Furthermore, if unavoidable crack occurs in concrete, it influences not only single attack but also coupled deterioration more severely. This is a study on analysis technique with system dynamics for chloride penetration in concrete structures exposed to coupled chloride attack and carbonation through chloride diffusion, permeation, and carbonation reaction. For the purpose, a modeling for chloride behavior considering diffusion and permeation is performed through previous models for early-aged concrete such as MCHHM (multi component hydration heat model) and MPSFM (micro pore structure formation). Then model for combined deterioration is developed considering changed characteristics such as pore distribution, saturation and dissociation of bound chloride content under carbonation. The developed model is verified through comparison with previous experimental data. Additionally, simulation for combined deterioration in cracked concrete is carried out through utilizing previously developed models for chloride penetration and carbonation in cracked concrete. From the simulated results, CCTZ (chloride-carbonation transition zone) for evaluating combined deterioration is proposed. It is numerically verified that concrete with slag has better resistance to combined deterioration than concrete with OPC in sound and cracked concrete.

  • PURPOSES : Daejeon is basically divided into an old downtown and a new downtown, and the recent relocation of the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government of Republic of Korea from the old downtown and the opening of governmental buildings in the new downtown as well have made this new downtown only densely populated with industrial and business facilities. Such changes in the downtowns have promoted the conditions of the new downtown while, consequently, dragging down the old downtown. Out of concern for those unbalanced developments of the two downtowns, Daejeon is now carrying out several city projects to revive the old downtown. In the light of that, as a part of the project to promote the old downtown, this study aims to conduct an evaluation on landscape of the culture and arts street in Daeheungdong which was built upon those ideas of a theme street project by Daejeon. METHODS : Based on the findings from the questionnaire not only on the components that would design the streetscape of the culture and arts street but also on the public satisfaction with the streetscape, the study defined how those changes in the components affect emotional factors of the pedestrians. In order to achieve the research goal, the study made changes in D/H ratio of the street structural components as well as the roadside trees. In terms of the questionnaire method, the study used the SD scale, and proceeded with its investigation through the frequency analysis, the principal component analysis (the factor analysis) and the structural equation model. RESULTS : According to the results from the factor analysis and the regression analysis, of those three factors, such as the openness, the comfortable sensation and the safety, the openness followed by the comfortable sensation and the safety was determined to have the most positive influence on the total satisfaction. The structural model analysis reported that the D/H and the structural components of the roadside trees and planting have a positive effect on the emotional image, and this emotional image also appeared to be positively related to the total satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS : This study looked into how the changes in the street structural components of the culture and arts street in Daeheungdong would affect the satisfaction with the streetscape, and finally confirmed that the D/H and the planting are what would have a positive effect on this satisfaction. What has been learned from this study will be the basic data to figure out how to promote and improve the culture and arts street in Daeheung-dong as this data will also help designing and developing of those specialized streets in other regions.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the importance of entrepreneurs' well-being, and to propose several ways to improve it. First, the factors influencing entrepreneurs' well-being were explored via previous literature review, and positive psychological capital based on positive psychology was selected as the main factor. In addition, the hypotheses were formulated and the research model was constructed by selecting authentic leadership, mastery goal orientation, and social support as the antecedents predictably associated with positive psychological capital. To empirically analyze the proposed model, a questionnaire survey was conducted for the entrepreneurs who fulfilled the training/coaching/consulting programs offered by the Youth Startup Academy. By using the collected 133 responses, PLS-Structural Equation Analysis, PLS-Multi Group Analysis(MGA), and PLS-Importance-Performance Map Analysis(IPMA) were performed. As a result, it was found that positive psychological capital had a high causal relationship with the well-being of entrepreneurs; and authentic leadership and mastery goal orientation had a positive effect on positive psychological capital. However, the statistical significance of the impact of social support has not been verified. While differences in causality between early and growing stages of start-ups only acted as sub-factors of positive psychological capital, the aforementioned three antecedents showed a significant difference for hope and optimism, respectively. This study expanded the topic of entrepreneurship-related research, which mostly focuses on identifying the performance factors of start-ups. It is meaningful in that it empirically verified the causality model constructed by exploring the factors with respect to the mental well-being of entrepreneurs, which is a main theme in the entrepreneurship-related research. These results found in the current study will render practical insights to entrepreneurs, researchers, and educators.

  • The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) - Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) system was applied to investigate the influence of major point sources located in Chungcheongnam-do (CN) on surface $PM_{2.5}$ (Particulate Matter of which diameter is $2.5{\mu}m$ or less) concentrations in its surrounding areas. Uncertainties associated with contribution estimations were examined through cross-comparison of modeling results using various combinations of model inputs and setups; two meteorological datasets developed with WRF for 2010 and 2014, and two domestic emission inventories for 2010 and 2013 were used to estimate contributions of major point sources in CN. The results show that contributions of major point sources in CN to annual $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations over Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and CN ranged $0.51{\sim}1.63{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.71{\sim}1.62{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.63{\sim}1.66{\mu}g/m^3$, and $1.04{\sim}1.86{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, depending on meteorology and emission inventory choice. It indicates that the contributions over the surrounding areas can be affected by model inputs significantly. Nitrate was the most dominant $PM_{2.5}$ component that was increased by major point sources in CN followed by sulfate, ammonium, and others. Based on the model simulations, it was estimated that primary $PM_{2.5}$ $(PPM)-to-PM_{2.5}$ conversion rates were 41.3~50.7 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 12.4~18.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi, respectively. In addition, spatial gradients of PPM contributions show very steep trends. $NO_X$-to-nitrate conversion rates were 7.61~12.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 3.94~11.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for the sub-regions in the SMA. $SO_2$-to-sulfate conversion rates were 4.04~5.28 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 3.73~4.43 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for the SMA, respectively.

  • In large-scale production of hydrogen, a PHE (Process Heat Exchanger) is a key component because the heat required to carry out the Sulfur-Iodine chemical reaction that yields hydrogen is transferred from a VHTR (Very High Temperature Reactor) by the PHE. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute established a helium gas loop for conducting performance test of components that are used in the VHTR. In this study, as a part of high-temperature structural-integrity evaluation of a designed PHE prototype that is scheduled to be tested in the helium gas loop, we carried out high-temperature structural-analysis modeling, thermal analysis, and thermal-expansion analysis for the designed PHE prototype. An appropriate constraint condition is proposed at the end of the in-flow and out-flow pipelines of the primary and secondary coolants and the proposed constraint condition will be applied to the design of the performance-test loop setup for the designed PHE prototype.

  • Anthracycline antibiotics doxorubicin (DXR) is clinically important cancer therapeutic agent produced by Streptomyces peucetius. DXR result by further metabolism of rhodomycin D (RHOD) and require a deoxy-sugar component for their biological activity. In this study, production of TDP-L-daunosamine and its attachment to ${\varepsilon}$-rhodomycinone (RHO) to generate RHOD has been achieved by bioconversion in Streptomyces venezuelae that bears eleven genes. S. peucetius seven genes (dnmUTJVZQS) were transformed by plasmid and S. venezuelae two genes desIII, IV and two more S. peucetius drrA, B genes were integrated into chromosomal DNA. To generate the feeding substrate RHO, 6L S. peucetius grown on agar plate was harvested, extracted with organic solvent and then purified using preparative HPLC. Recombinant S. venezuelae grown on agar plate containing RHO was harvested and its n-butanol soluble components were extracted. The glycosylated product of aromatic polyketide RHO using heterologous host S. venezuelae presents the minimal information for TDP-L-daunosamine biosynthesis and its attachment onto aglycone. Moreover, the structure of auxiliary protein, DnrQ, was predicted by fold recognition and homology modeling in this study. This is a general approach to further expand of new glycosides of antitumor anthracycline antibiotics.

  • Nowadays, in accordance with increasing expectations of multimedia stream service on the internet, a lot of distributed applications are being required and developed. But the models of the existing systems have the problems that cannot support the extensibility and the reusability, when the QoS relating functions are being developed as an integrated modules which are suited on the centralized controlled specific-purpose application services. To cope with these problems, it is suggested in this paper to a distributed QoS management system on CORBA, an object-oriented middleware compliance. This systems we suggested can provides not only for efficient control of resources, various service QoS, and QoS control functions as the existing functions, but also QoS control real-time negotiation and dynamic adaptation in addition. This system consists of QoS Control Management Module(QoS CMM) in client side and QoS Management Module(QoS MM) in server side, respectively. These distributed modules are interfacing with each other via CORBA on different systems for distributed QoS management while serving distributed streaming applications. In phase of design of our system, we use UML(Unified Modeling Language) for designing each component in modules, their method calls and various detailed functions for controlling QoS of stream services. For implementation of our system, we used OrbixWeb 3.1c following CORBA specification on Solaris 2.5/2.7, Java language, Java Media Framework API 2.0 beta2, Mini-SQL 1.0.16 and the multimedia equipments, such as SunVideoPlus/Sun Video capture board and Sun Camera. Finally, we showed a numerical data controlled by real-time negotiation and adaptation procedures based on QoS map information to GUIs on client and server dynamically, while our distributed QoS management system is executing a given streaming service.

  • Intelligent Motion Planning System(IMPS) is presented for a robot to achieve an efficient path toward the given target point in two dimensional unknown environment is constructed with unrestricted obstacle shapes. IMPS consists of three components for making intelligent motion. These components are real-time motion planning algorithm based on a discontinous boundary method, fuzzy neural network decision system for heuristic knowledge representation, and world modeling with forgetting and reinforcing memory cells. First of all, in real-time motion planning algorithm, the behavior-based architectural method is used to generate subgoal. A behavior generates a subgoal independently by using the method of discontinuous boundary in sensed area. The discontinuous boundary method is a new proposed fast obstacle avoidance algorithm. The second component is fuzzy neural network decision system for accomplishing the subgoal. The heuristic rules are imbedded on the fuzzy neural network to make an intelligent decision. The last one is a forgetting, reinforcing memory technique for the construction of external world map. The activation values of all activated memory cells in grid space are decreased monotonically and after all they are burned out. Therefore, after sufficient journey, robot can have a stationary world map even if the dynaic obstacles exist. Using the IMPS, several simulations show the efficient achievement of target point in unknown enviroment with obstcles of various shapes.

  • Soil erosion has been emphasized as serious environmental problem affecting water quality in the receiving waterbodies. Recently, Best Management Practices (BMPs) have been applied at a field to reduce soil erosion and its effectiveness in soil erosion reduction has been monitored with various methods. Although monitoring at fields/watershed outlets would be accurate way for these ends, it is not possible at some fields/watersheds due to various limitations in direct monitoring. Thus modeling has been suggested as an alternative way to evaluate effects of the BMPs. Most models, which have been used in evaluating hydrology and water quality at a watershed, could not reflect rainfall intensity in runoff generation and soil erosion processes. In addition, source codes of these models are not always public for modification/enhancement. Thus, runoff-sediment evaluation system using hourly rainfall data and vegetated filter strip (VFS) evaluation module at field level were developed using open source MapWindow GIS component in this study. This evaluation system was applied to Bangdongri, Chuncheonsi to evaluate its prediction ability and VFS module in this study. The NSE and $R^2$ values for runoff estimation were 0.86 and 0.91, respectively, and measured and simulated sediment yield were 15.2 kg and 16.5 kg indicating this system, developed in this study, can be used to simulate runoff and sediment yield with acceptable accuracies. Nine VFS scenarios were evaluated for effectiveness of soil erosion reduction. Reduction efficiency of the VFS was high when sediment inflow was small. As shown in this study, this evaluation system can be used for evaluation BMPs with local rainfall intensity and variations considered with ease-of-use GIS interface.

  • The IHX (intermediate heat exchanger) is a key component of nuclear hydrogen systems for the production of massive amounts hydrogen. The IHX transfers the $950^{\circ}C$ heat generated by the VHTR (very high temperature reactor) to a hydrogen production plant. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute established a small-scale gas loop to test the performance of key VHTR components and manufactured a small-scale PCHE (printed circuit heat exchanger) prototype, which is being considered as a candidate for the IHX, for testing in the small-scale gas loop. In this study, as a part of the high-temperature structural integrity evaluation of the small-scale PCHE prototype, we carried out high-temperature structural analysis modeling and macroscopic thermal and structural analysis for the small-scale PCHE prototype under the small-scale gas loop test conditions. This analysis serves as a precedent study to scheduled PCHE performance test in the small-scale gas loop. The results obtained in this study will be compared with the test results for the small-scale PCHE and then used to design the medium-scale PCHE prototype.
