  • The input energy to a base-isolated (BI) building during an earthquake is considered and formulated in the frequency domain. The frequency-domain approach for input energy computation has some notable advantages over the conventional time-domain approach. Sensitivities of the input energy to the BI building are derived with respect to uncertain parameters in the base-isolation system. It is demonstrated that the input energy can be of a compact form via the frequency integration of the product between the input component (Fourier amplitude spectrum of acceleration) and the structural model component (so-called energy transfer function). With the help of this compact form, it is shown that the formulation of earthquake input energy in the frequency domain is essential for deriving the sensitivities of the input energy to the BI building with respect to uncertain parameters. The sensitivity expressions provide us with information on the most unfavorable combination of the uncertain parameters which leads to the maximum energy input.

  • To have the competitiveness in the future worldwide small aircraft market, we should be able to develop the aircraft which is highly safe, easy to fly, and having excellent flight characteristics. FBW(Fly-By Wire) system is essential for the enhancement of flight safety and control easiness. FBW system that has been applied only to the modern fighter and transport aircraft is recently applied to smaller aircraft such as regional aircraft, business aircraft and even small aircraft. The purpose of this research includes the development of flight control computer, the definition of FBW system component, the design concept of each component for redundant management, OFP(Operational Flight Program) development, FBW system integration and HILS(Hardware In-the Loop Simulation) verification environment to test this FBW system.

  • The miniaturization and integration are trend of modern blood analyses. Micro-Bio-Fluidics plays an important role in a micro blood analysis system. In this paper, analysis and design technology for blood analysis system is presented. Numerical simulations of a blood flow in micro separator and reservoir are conducted. As a result, we suggest on-chip micro separator, which performed plasma separation from whole blood in micro channels.

  • In this paper, we propose a hierarchical packet scheduling technique to closely approximate a hierarchical extension of the generalized processor sharing model, Hierarchical Generalized Processor Sharing (H-GPS). Our approach is to undertake the tasks of service guarantee and hierarchical link sharing in an independent manner so that each task best serves its own objective. The H-GPS model is decomposed into two separate service components: the guaranteed service component to consistently provide performance guarantees over the entire system, and the excess service component to fairly distribute spare bandwidth according to the hierarchical scheduling rule. For tight and harmonized integration of the two service components into a single packet scheduling algorithm, we introduce two novel concepts of distributed virtual time and service credit, and develop a packet version of H-GPS called Hierarchical Fair Queueing (HFQ). We demonstrate the layerindependent performance of the HFQ algorithm through simulation results.

  • The dynamic behavior of crankshaft-bearing system in scroll compressor has been investigated using the combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The finite element formulation is proposed including the field element for a shaft section and the point element at balancer weight locations, bearing locations, etc., whereas the conventional method is used with the elements. The Houbolt method is used to consider the time march for the integration of the system equations. The linear stiffness and damping coefficients are calculated for a finite cylindrical fluid-film bearing by solving the Reynolds equation, using finite difference method. The orbital response of crankshaft supported on the linear bearing model is obtained, considering balancer weights of motor rotor. And, the steady state displacement of crankshaft are compared with a variation in balancer weight. The loci of crankshaft at bearing locations are composed of the synchronous whirl component and the non-synchronous whirl component.
