  • Component Based Development (CBD) is appealing as a technology to improve the productivity of software development through component reuse. Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is a new development paradigm which automatically generates application by transforming design models incrementally. Since both reusability of CBD and model transformation of MDA increase software productivity. integration of two technologies is desirable. To enable this technology integration, we need to devise a UML profile for specifying component design as a PIM. In this paper, we first define a meta-model for components, and propose a UML profile which is used to specify elements of component design as PIM. Since the proposed profile is based on Meta Object Facility (MOF) from which is MDA is derived, it is consistent and compatible with existing MDA methods and tools.

  • Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) utilizes two different cell-cycle modes, binucleations during the L1 larval stage and endoreduplications at four larval moltings, for its postembryonic intestinal development. Previous genetic studies indicated that CDC-25.2 is specifically required for binucleations at the L1 larval stage and is repressed before endoreduplications. Furthermore, LIN-23, the C. elegans ${\beta}$-TrCP ortholog, appears to function as a repressor of CDC-25.2 to prevent excess intestinal divisions. We previously reported that intestinal hyperplasia in lin-23(e1883) mutants was effectively suppressed by the RNAi depletion of cdc-25.2. Nevertheless, LIN-23 targeting CDC-25.2 for ubiquitination as a component of E3 ubiquitin ligase has not yet been tested. In this study, LIN-23 is shown to be the major E3 ubiquitin ligase component, recognizing CDC-25.2 to repress their activities for proper transition of cell-cycle modes during the C. elegans postembryonic intestinal development. In addition, for the first time that LIN-23 physically interacts with both CDC-25.1 and CDC-25.2 and facilitates ubiquitination for timely regulation of their activities during the intestinal development.

  • System developments by components are accomplished by creating new software based on independent components having respective function. Generally, component-based software developments are expected to obtain profits caused by reuse of software, such as improvement of quality, rapid development, and efficiency of maintenance. In a component-based system, the most important goal and also key to success is to identify and construct high quality components that may increase reusability. Therefore, it is necessary for component developers to understand strong and weak points of existing component development methodologies in the aspect of identification of component, and to select the most appropriate methodology for the system to be constructed. It is also necessary for component developers to develop a new methodology enabling effective identification of independent components through modification and/or complementation of existing methodologies. The modification and complementation needs comparison and analysis of various existing methodologies. Accordingly, the this paper is to provide explanation for some widely used methodologies representing the existing component-based software development methodologies such as RUP(Rational Unified Process) of Rational company[1,9], CBD96 of Computer Associates company[2,3], UNIFACE of Compuware company[5], and UML components methodology derived from extending of the component developing method of CBD96 by Cheesman and Daniels[4]. The this paper is also to point out respective problems of the representative existing methodologies. Furthermore, component identification methodologies are compared and analyzedon the whole through this paper.

  • A component base technology can maintain effectively and save time and expenses of development. In this thesis we found many components including the setup/execution component to construct game sites and analyzed and designed the components by the use of UML. If programmers develop the game site by using the component that distributes, setups and executes the game program by one click and other components, they can manage the game site easily, distribute the game program effectively and offer a convenient user interface. Also, by the reuse of these components, programmers can construct the game site easily and economically.

  • In this paper, we propose a development methodology based on the component architecture to develop the LMS that follows ADL's SCORM standard, which is interested internally and externally in the e-learning contents standardization research. In like manner, we designed the SCORM core module and implemented the EJB component based on J2EE through the sugested methodology for the conversion of SCORM Conformance LMS, from iOneLMS which was developed based on distributed object component like JSP, EJB, etc. The SCORM component modules were implemented by three modules - content importing, course registering, and taking course and gathering the learning data. In the process of implementation, we used the part of the class library that was supported by the ADL and AICC again.

  • PICARD (Port-Interface Component Architecture for Real-time system Design) is a software architecture and environment, which is aimed to reduce development time and cost of real-time, control system. With PICARD, a control engineer can construct a control system software by assembling pre-built software components us ing interact ive graphical development environment. PICARD consists of PVM(Picard Virtual Machine) , a component library, and PICE(PIcard Configuration Editor). PVM is a real-time engine of the PICARD system which runs control tasks on a real-time operating system. The component library is composed of components which are called task blocks. PICE is a visual editor which can configure control tasks by creating data-flow diagrams of task blocks or Ladder diagrams for sequential logics. For the communication between PVM on a target system and PICE on a host computer, a simple protocol and tools for stub generation was dove]oped because RPC or CORBA is difficult to be applied for the embedded system. New features such as a byte-code based run time system and a simple and easy MMI builder are also introduced.

  • One of the important applications for business-to-business electronic commerce is in procurement and inventory management using electronic data interchange(EDI). Using online catalogs and approved supplier lists, firms can easily create requisitions and purchasing documents. The emerging trend in EDI technology is changed from VAN(Value Added Network) based EDI to XML based EDI. This paper intends to suggest a component-based XML/EDI system using Unified Modeling Language(UML), as an application system for automobile part industry. Applying component based XML/EDI systems designed with UML methodology, we analyzed the workflow and the document on procurement process between trading partners and implemented a prototype of efficient XML/EDI system, as a surrogate of existing VAN/EDI. The result of applying object-oriented CBD(Component Based Development) technique is to minimize the risk of life cycle and facilitate the reuse of software as mentioned to limitation of information engineering methodology. It enables the interoperability with corporate legacy systems such as ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning), SCM(Supply Chain Management). This system proposes a solution to apply analysis phase and design phase in implementation of XML/EDI system. The implementation of XML/EDI system using CBD shows the ease of use in software reuse and the interoperability with corporate internal information system. The purchasing department with XML/EDI system can electronically communicate purchase orders, delivery schedules to external suppliers and interoperate with other application systems.
