Ground Beam Structure Based Joint Stiffness Controlling Method for the Design of Compliant Mechanism (바닥 보 구조 기반 조인트 강성 조절법을 이용한 컴플라이언트 메커니즘의 설계)

  • Topology optimization has been widely used in many research areas due to its ability in providing intial designs for the problems with complex boundary conditions. This also has been useful in compliant mechanisms, but resulting layouts may not be immediately manufacturable because they usually consist of members with varying widths and shapes. Also, there occurs some numerical difficulties such as checkerboards or hinge patterns which result from 1-node connection, and intermediate values which make the manufacturing of the designed structure difficult. Though there are many remedies given to avoid this problems, they cannot be prevented. One may avoid this difficulty by employing uniform ground beams and explicit hinge joints. The proposed method is to connect uniform ground beams with elastic short-beam hinge joints. By choosing the widths of short beams as design variables, dominant deformations can occur mainly by flexible joints having intermediate widths. Unlike the conventional methods used for compliance minimization, intermediate widths must appear in compliant mechanism design problems. Also, the present approach does not encounter the problem of one-point hinges.

  • The systems with probe and SIL(Solid Immersion Lens) mechanisms have been researched as the technology to perform NFR(Near Field Recording). Most of them use the flying head mechanism to accomplish high recording density and fast data transfer rate. In this paper, ABS shape of flying head was optimized with the object of securing the maximum compliance ability of OFH. We suggest low different optimization processes to predict the static flying characteristics for the OFH. Two different approximation methods, regression analysis and back propagation neural network were used. And we compared the result of directly connected(between CAE and optimizer) method and two approximated optimization results. Design Optimization Tool(DOT) and ${\mu}GA$ were used as the optimizers.

  • The nano imprint process is one of the next generation lithography has been mentioned as one of major nanoreplication techniques because it is simple process, low cost, high replication fidelity and relatively high throughput. This process requires a surface contact between a template with patterns and a wafer on a stage. After contact, the vertical moving the template to the wafer causes some directional motions of the stage. Thus the stage must move according to the motions of the template to avoid the damage of the transferred patterns on the wafer. This study is to develop the wafer stage with a passive compliance to overcome the damage. This stage is designed with the concept like that it has a monolithic, symmetry and planar 6-DOF mechanism.

  • Nasal obstruction may cause or aggravate sleep disordered breathing but exact pathogenesis is not clear. The possible mechanism could be combination of alteration in upper airway aerodynaimcs, loss of nasal reflex or sensation, effect of mouth opening, and a genetic predisposition. Anatomical narrowing of nasal airway cause more rapid airflow and induce more negative inspiratory air pressure. So, it increases collapsibility of pharyngeal airway. Loss of nasal sensation to airflow block nasal reflex. Mouth opening decreases the activity of pharyngeal airway dilator muscles and narrowing the pharyngeal airway may occur. The treatment of nasal obstruction should be done according to the cause. The causes of nasal obstruction are various from problems of external nasal opening to nasopharynx. Relief of nasal obstruction may not cure sleep disordered breathing always. In some mild obstructive sleep apnea patients, treatment of nasal obstruction only may cure sleep disordered breathing. In some severe sleep apnea patients, treatment of nasal obstruction may increase compliance of continous nasal positive airway pressure.

  • Mood disorder is a medical illness resulting from the disorder of CNS neurotransmission and its principal therapeutic tool is pharmacotherapy. Psychotherapeutic drugs for mood disorder have some clinical limitations which are due to no or partial response, decreased compliance for drug by the side effects, and delayed therapeutic effects. So, general hope of all clinicians that mood diorder will respond to a single psychotherapeutic agent may be the exception rather than the rule. Recently, combined drug treatments have become increasingly popular to overcome the clinical limitations of individual agent in mood disorder. Combined treatments are usually used for augmenting or initiating rapidly the effect of drug, and for treating different target symptoms or drug side effects. When combined treatments being tried, knowledge of the action mechanism, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics is crucial to cope with the possible adverse reactions of drugs.

An Analysis of Femoral Bone Remodeling Using Topology Optimization Method

  • Topology optimization method has a great advantage and capability over a conventional shape optimization technique because it optimizes a topology as well as a shape and size of structure. The purpose of the present study, using topology optimization method with an objective function of minimum compliance as a mechanism of bone remodeling, is to examine which shape factors of femur is strongly related with the curvature of femoral shaft. As is expected, the optimized curvature increased definitely with neck angle among the shape factors and showed a similar trend with the measured curvature to neck angle. Therefore, the topology optimization method can be successfully applied in the analysis of bone remodeling phenomenon in the subsequent studies.

  • Surface damage accumulation of alumina ceramics under the cyclic stress state was analyzed. The alternating stress state in repeat pass sliding contact was simulated by a synchronized biaxial (normal and tangential) repeated indentation technique. Wear debris formation mechanism through damage accumulation and fatigue grain failure in both alumina ceramic balls and flat disks was confirmed, and the contact induced surface degradation due to fatigue cracking accumulation was quantified by measuring vertical contact displacement. Variation of structural compliance (slope of load-displacement curve) of two contacting bodies was expressed as a variation of the apparent elastic property, called pseudo-elastic constant, of the contact system.

  • In order to introduce the touch to engineering and industries, it must be preceded to dstablish a quantitative barometer of the feeling. for this purpose, we developed a tactile measuring system to measure physical properties of texture, such as surface roughness, friction coefficient and compliance. The tactile measuring system uses a LASER type displacement sensor, which is a non-contacting system, in measuring the surface roughness. By considering that human tactile system is a contacting mechanism, this non-contacting method needs to be modified. As a precedent research of that, we compared the contacting and non-contacting method in this paper. Surface roughness of ten cloths were measured by using the measuring system, then compared to the test results using the Kawabata evaluation system(KES), which uses a contacting method in measuring the surface roughness.

  • Soft fluidic actuators (SFAs) are widely utilized in various areas such as wearable systems due to the inherent compliance which allows safe and flexible interaction. However, SFA-driven systems generally require a large pump, multiple valves and tubes, which hinders to develop a miniaturized system with small range of motion. Thus, a highly integrated soft actuator needs to be developed for implementing a compact SFA-driven system. In this study, we propose an electro-hydraulic soft zipping actuator that can be used as a miniature pump. This actuator exerts tactile force as a dielectric liquid contained inside the actuator pressurized its deformable part. In addition, the proposed actuator can estimate the internal dielectric liquid thickness by using its self-sensing function. Besides, the electrical characteristics and driving performance of the proposed system were verified through experiments.

A Study on Web Accessibility Status of Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education from the Universal Design View (유니버설 디자인 관점에서 본 국내 시도 교육청의 웹 접근성 실태에 관한 연구)

  • Due to the enforcement of a law about disability nondiscrimination and rights protection in 2008, the web accessibility has become an obligation. According to a survey targeting public sectors such as central administrative organization, local autonomous entity and etc., the level of compliance with web accessibility appeared to be improved every year. However, such legal mechanism focuses on the improvement of convenience for disabled people only and does not meet the concept of universal design that aims to satisfy every user. Therefore, this study verifies the status of web accessibility on 17 homepages of metropolitan and provincial offices of education. The status survey was carried out with 3 steps: 1) Verification through automated verification tool by National Information Society Agency, 2) Verification through Web Content Accessibility Guidelines(UD-WCAG) that adopts the concept of universal design, 3) Verification by using screen reader. Compared to the verification through automated verification tool, the overall compliance rate verified through UD-WCAG was reported lower.
