비트 레벨 정렬 알고리즘을 이용한 3${\times}$3 윈도우 가중 메디언 필터의 하드웨어 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Hardware Implementation of A 3${\times}$3 Window Weighted Median Filter Using Bit-Level Sorting Algorithm)

  • In this paper, we studied on the hardware implementation of a 3${\times}$3 window weighted median filter using bit-level sorting algorithm. The weighted median filter is a generalization of the median filter that is able to preserve :,harp changes in signal and is very effective in removing impulse noise. It has been successfully applied in various areas such as digital signal and video/image processing. The weighted median filters are, for the most part, based on word-level sorting methods, which have more hardware and time complexity, However, the proposed bit-serial sorting algorithm uses weighted adder tree to overcome those disadvantages. It also offers a simple pipelined filter architecture that is highly regular with repeated modules and is very suitable for weighted median filtering. The algorithm was implemented by VHDL and graphical environment in MAX+PlusII of ALTERA. The simulation results indicate that the proposed design method is more efficient than the traditional ones.

SPEECH ENHANCEMENT BY FREQUENCY-WEIGHTED BLOCK LMS ALGORITHM

  • In this paper, enhancement of speech corrupted by additive white or colored noise is stuided. The nuconstrained frequency-domain block least-mean-square (UFBLMS) adaptation algorithm and its frequency-weighted version are newly applied to speech enhancement. For enhancement of speech degraded by white noise, the performance of the UFBLMS algorithm is superior to the spectral subtraction method or Wiener filtering technique by more than 3 dB in segmented frequency-weighted signal-to-noise ratio(FWSNERSEG) when SNR of speech is in the range of 0 to 10 dB. As for enhancement of noisy speech corrupted by colored noise, the UFBLMS algorithm is superior to that of the spectral subtraction method by about 3 to 5 dB in FWSNRSEG. Also, it yields better performance by about 2 dB in FWSNR and FWSNRSEG than that of time-domain least-mean-square (TLMS) adaptive prediction filter(APF). In view of the computational complexity and performance improvement in speech quality and intelligibility, the frequency-weighted UFBLMS algorithm appears to yield the best performance among various algorithms in enhancing noisy speech corrupted by white or colored noise.

가중특징 Mahalanobis거리를 이용한 마이크 어레이 음석인식의 성능향상 (Performance Improvement of Microphone Array Speech Recognition Using Features Weighted Mahalanobis Distance)

  • In this paper, we present the use of the Features Weighted Mahalanobis Distance (FWMD) in improving the performance of Likelihood Maximizing Beamforming (Limabeam) algorithm in speech recognition for microphone array. The proposed approach is based on the replacement of the traditional distance measure in a Gaussian classifier with adding weight for different features in the Mahalanobis distance according to their distances after the variance normalization. By using Features Weighted Mahalanobis Distance for Limabeam algorithm (FWMD-Limabeam), we obtained correct word recognition rate of 90.26% for calibrate Limabeam and 87.23% for unsupervised Limabeam, resulting in a higher rate of 3% and 6% respectively than those produced by the original Limabearn. By implementing a HM-Net speech recognition strategy alternatively, we could save memory and reduce computation complexity.

Modified Cubic Convolution Interpolation for Low Computational Complexity

  • In this paper, we propose a modified cubic convolution interpolation for the enlargement or reduction of digital images using a pixel difference value. The proposed method has a low complexity: the number of multiplier of weighted value to calculate one pixel of a scaled image has seven less than that of cubic convolution interpolation has sixteen. We use the linear function of the cubic convolution and the difference pixel value for selecting interpolation methods. The proposed method is compared with the conventional one for the computational complexity and the image quality. The simulation results show that the proposed method has less computational complexity than one of the cubic convolution interpolation.

우주개발사업의 복합성을 고려한 산업연관분석 (An Interindustry Analysis Considering Complexity of Space Exploration Project)

  • 본 연구는 우주개발사업이 갖는 복합성을 반영하여 산업연관분석을 수행한 것이다. 구체적인 분석대상은 2014년부터 2020년까지 수행될 것으로 예정되어 있는 달 탐사 사업이다. 종전에는 이러한 우주개발사업을 항공기산업이나 공공연구사업 중 하나로 분류해서 단일사업으로 산업연관분석을 수행하였는데 이러한 방식으로는 정확한 산업파급효과를 측정하는데 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 달 탐사 사업을 구성하는 8개 부문별 예산을 이용하여 생산유발계수, 부가가치유발계수, 취업(고용)유발계수 등의 가중평균값(WAC)을 산출해서 이 사업의 산업파급 효과를 분석하였다. 그 결과 7,157억원의 예산이 국내에 지출될 달 탐사 사업의 생산유발효과는 12,296억원, 부가가치유발효과는 3,246억원, 취업(고용)유발효과는 4,855명(4,171명)으로 나타났다. 산업파급효과와 더불어 산업연쇄효과를 분석하였는데 전방연쇄효과를 나타내는 감응도 계수는 0.7419, 후방연쇄효과를 나타내는 영향력 계수는 1.1690으로 나타나서 달 탐사 사업이 중간재보다는 최종재의 특성을 더 많이 갖고 있음이 확인되었다.

소방서건물의 신재생에너지시스템 최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimization of a Renewable Energy System in Fire Station Buildings)

  • This study set out to evaluate the economy, environmentality, and complexity (economy+environmentality) of fire station buildings of public service facilities and propose ways to apply the optimization of renewable energy system to fire station buildings. As for economy according to life cycle costs, economy increased when the application percentage of the geothermal and solar heat system increased over the three renewable energy system types (geothermal, solar heat, and solar photovoltaic). On the other hand, economy decreased when the application percentage of the solar photovoltaic system increased. As for environmentality according to tons of carbon dioxide, environmentality decreased when the application percentage of the geothermal and solar heat system increased. Environmentality increased when the application percentage of the solar photovoltaic system increased. As for complexity (economy+environmentality) according to the weighted coefficient method, complexity increased when the application percentage of the geothermal system increased. It was highest at the combination of the solar heat system (20%) and geothermal system (80%). On the other hand, complexity decreased when the application percentage of the solar photovoltaic system increased. It was lowest at the combination of the solar photovoltaic system (80%) and geothermal system (20%).

전체적 밝기 변화와 지역적 밝기 변화를 고려한 HEVC에서의 가중치 예측 (Weighted Prediction considering Global Brightness Variation and Local Brightness Variation in HEVC)

  • 본 논문에서는, 밝기 변화가 존재하는 영상에서의 부호화 효율을 향상하기 위해 새로운 가중치 예측 기술이 제안된다. 종래의 가중치 예측 기술은 참조 영상 단위로 지원되고 하나의 가중치 예측 계수 세트만을 사용하기 때문에 전체적 밝기 변화가 존재하는 영상에서만 효율적이다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 제안하는 알고리즘은 상황에 따라 세 가지 종류의 가중치 예측을 사용한다. 제안한 방법의 실험 결과는 기존 기술 대비 BD-rate 기준으로 최대 -10.2%의 성능 향상을 가져오며 인코더의 복잡도는 163%, 디코더의 복잡도는 약 101% 변화가 존재한다.

Double 𝑙1 regularization for moving force identification using response spectrum-based weighted dictionary

  • Sparse regularization methods have proven effective in addressing the ill-posed equations encountered in moving force identification (MFI). However, the complexity of vehicle loads is often ignored in existing studies aiming at enhancing MFI accuracy. To tackle this issue, a double 𝑙1 regularization method is proposed for MFI based on a response spectrum-based weighted dictionary in this study. Firstly, the relationship between vehicle-induced responses and moving vehicle loads (MVL) is established. The structural responses are then expanded in the frequency domain to obtain the prior knowledge related to MVL and to further construct a response spectrum-based weighted dictionary for MFI with a higher accuracy. Secondly, with the utilization of this weighted dictionary, a double 𝑙1 regularization framework is presented for identifying the static and dynamic components of MVL by the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) method successively. To assess the performance of the proposed method, two different types of MVL, such as composed of trigonometric functions and driven from a 1/4 bridge-vehicle model, are adopted to conduct numerical simulations. Furthermore, a series of MFI experimental verifications are carried out in laboratory. The results shows that the proposed method's higher accuracy and strong robustness to noises compared with other traditional regularization methods.

Adaptive Motion Vector Smoothing for Improving Side Information in Distributed Video Coding

  • In this paper, an adaptive motion vector smoothing scheme based on weighted vector median filtering is proposed in order to eliminate the motion outliers more effectively for improving the quality of side information in frame-based distributed video coding. We use a simple motion vector outlier reliability measure for each block in a motion compensated interpolated frame and apply weighted vector median filtering only to the blocks with unreliable motion vectors. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive motion vector smoothing algorithm improves the quality of the side information significantly while maintaining low complexity at the encoder in frame-based distributed video coding.

SOC Verification Based on WGL

  • The growing market of multimedia and digital signal processing requires significant data-path portions of SoCs. However, the common models for verification are not suitable for SoCs. A novel model--WGL (Weighted Generalized List) is proposed, which is based on the general-list decomposition of polynomials, with three different weights and manipulation rules introduced to effect node sharing and the canonicity. Timing parameters and operations on them are also considered. Examples show the word-level WGL is the only model to linearly represent the common word-level functions and the bit-level WGL is especially suitable for arithmetic intensive circuits. The model is proved to be a uniform and efficient model for both bit-level and word-level functions. Then Based on the WGL model, a backward-construction logic-verification approach is presented, which reduces time and space complexity for multipliers to polynomial complexity(time complexity is less than $O(n^{3.6})$ and space complexity is less than $O(n^{1.5})$) without hierarchical partitioning. Finally, a construction methodology of word-level polynomials is also presented in order to implement complex high-level verification, which combines order computation and coefficient solving, and adopts an efficient backward approach. The construction complexity is much less than the existing ones, e.g. the construction time for multipliers grows at the power of less than 1.6 in the size of the input word without increasing the maximal space required. The WGL model and the verification methods based on WGL show their theoretical and applicable significance in SoC design.
