The accurate prediction of wave-induced currents is indispensible to analyze the beach deformation due to the sediment transport or dispersion in the surf zone, which often gives rises to serious environmental problems in the coastal region. Although many numerical models have been suggested up to now, it is not easy to properly simulate wave-induced currents, in particular, over a complex topography. In order to solve these problems, we have to understand the mechanism of wave transformation and wave-induced currents, to compare results numerical models with those of field measurements, and to find the validity and the applicability of them. And, also the validity of the model has been confirmed by the field investigation.
Recently, it has been widely recognized that coastal vegetations may have great value in supporting fisheries, protecting from wave attack, stabilizing the sea bed and maintaining good scenery. Hydrodynamic factors play a major role in the functions of water quality and ecosystems. However, the studies on physical and numerical process of wave propagation are few and far behind compared to those on the hydrodynamic roles of coastal vegetations. In general, Vegetation flourishing along the coastal areas attenuates the incident waves, through momentum exchange between stagnated water mass in the vegetated area and rapid mass in the un-vegetated area. This study develops a numerical model for describing the wave attenuation rate in the complex topography with the vegetation area. Based on the numerical results, the physical properties of the wave attenuation are examined under various wave, geometric and vegetation conditions. Through the comparisons of these results, the effects of the vegetation properties, wave properties and model parameters such ac the momentum exchange coefficient have been clarified.

Currently, 54 kinds of digital maps are provided by National Geographic Information Clearinghouse and the majority of those maps are based on aerial photographs or satellite image. The digital maps which symbolize and simplifies the topography and objects from ortho-photos does not reflect the objects 'shapes and facilities' changes. Especially, underground structures and complex building shapes are not correctly identifies by ortho-photos. Furthermore, the 1/1,000 and 1/500-1/2,500 maps for urban area produced by some local government or public organizations have detailed information with high precision, it is not easy to update the information due to the frequent changes of structures in the city. Although some efforts to solve this problem such as conducting field survey and shorten the survey period were tried, it is not the fundamental solution due to the high cost. Therefore, in this study, a realtime renewal and update of digital map using general survey are suggested. By assigning absolute coordinates to the general survey products and matching with digital maps, it is possible to update the digital map economically and rapidly. In addition, it is suggested that the construction of DB for general survey and sharing among survey companies to solve the duplicated survey.

The interface system, GIS-AGNPS was to be validated with field data from six tested small watersheds ranging from 0.7 to 4.7$km^2$ in size which have steep topography and complex landuses. The model validation involved the calibration of input parameters and component modifications, in efforts to develop a model applicable to general uses for identifying and controlling nonpoint source pollution loads from agricultural watersheds. The simulated direct runoff from AGNPS was in good agreement with the field data for the averaged antecedent moisture conditions or AMC- II. The results differed, however, from the observed for AMC- I or III. A simple empirical relationship was proposed to estimate the curve number for AMC- I or m from AMC- II, which was found to result in simulated runoff close to the observed. The peak runoff relationship at AGNPS was also modified to reflect the watershed conditions and tested satisfactorily with the field data. The simulated sediment yields from the watersheds were fair as compared to the observed. Nutrient loads simulated from the model were different from the observed data. It appeared that the model was incapable of adequate depicting nutrient transport processes at paddy field and other landuses of the tested watersheds. Some modifications may be needed for the accurate representing the processes at paddy field.

In the present investigation, a numerical model developed for the prediction of the wind flow over complex terrain is validated by comparing with the field experiments. For the solution of the Reynolds - Averaged Clavier- stokes equations which are the governing equations of the microscale atmospheric flow, the model is constructed based on the finite-volume formulation and the SIMPLEC pressure-correction algorithm for the hydrodynamic computation. The boundary- fitted coordinate system is employed for the detailed depiction of topography. The boundary conditions and the modified turbulence constants suitable for an atmospheric boundary- layer are applied together with the k- s turbulence model. The full- scale experiments of Cooper's Ridge, Kettles Hill and Askervein Hill are chosen as the validation cases . Comparisons of the mean flow field between the field measurements and the predicted results show good agreement. In the simulation of the wind flow over Askervein Hill , the numerical model predicts the three dimensional flow separation in the downslope of the hill including the blockage effect due to neighboring hills . Such a flow behavior has not been simulated by the theoretical predictions. Therefore, the present model may offer the most accurate prediction of flow behavior in the leeside of the hill among the existing theoretical and numerical predictions.

Seismic risk management of the built environment is integrated by two main stages, the assessment and the remedial measures to attain its reduction, representing both stages a complex task. The seismic risk of a certain structure located in a seismic zone is determined by the conjunct of the seismic hazard and its structural vulnerability. The hazard level mainly depends on the proximity of the site to a seismic source. On the other hand, the ground shaking depends on the seismic source, geology and topography of the site, but definitely on the inherent earthquake characteristics. Seismic hazard characterization of a site under study is suggested to be estimated by a combination of studies with the history of earthquakes. In this Paper, the most important methods of seismic vulnerability evaluation of buildings and their application are described. The selection of the most suitable method depends on different factors such as number of buildings, importance, available data and aim of the study. These approaches are classified in empirical, analytical, experimental and hybrid. For obtaining more reliable results, it is recommends applying a hybrid approach, which consists of a combination between methods depending on the case. Finally, a recommended approach depending on the building importance and aim of the study is described.

Pig chronic wasting disease, including porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), have made a continuous economic damage in pig farms. Airborne spread of livestock viruses are an important spread factor which is difficult to analyze due to invisible airflow and limitation of measurement. The objective of this study is to analyze airborne disease spread between buildings in the experimental pig farm by means of field experiment and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The field experiments were conducted to capture airborne virus using air sampler and teflon filter along multi points in the experimental pig farm. The samples were tested in terms of virus detection resulting in positive reaction for PRRS and PCV-2 viruses, which can be a firm evidence of airborne virus spread. The CFD simulation model was developed by considering complex topography, wind conditions, building arrangement, and ventilation systems and was used to analyze airborne virus spread according to different wind conditions. The CFD computed result showed a possibility of airborne virus spread via livestock aerosol from infected pig house to neighboring pig houses according to wind directions. The CFD simulation technique is expected to provide significant data for estimating and making a counterplan against airborne disease spread.

In the present paper, a new calculation algorithm far solving large scale environmental or geophysical flows with free surface is proposed where the non-hydrostatic pressure component is taken into consideration. Predictor-corrector fractional step approach with explicit, forward time marching scheme in the sigma coordinate system is employed. In order to validate the present calculation algorithm and to estimate the effects of non-hydrostatic pressure on resultant flow and free surface movements, example calculations are carried out for typical steady and unsteady flow problems. Present method can be applied to the meso-scale free surface flows with complex bottom topography where MAC-like 3-d hydrodynamic calculations are quite ineffective and uneconomic.
G. Binnig and H. Rohrer introduced the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) in 1982 and developed it into a powerful and not to be missed physical tool. Scanning tunneling Microscopy is a real space surface imaging method with the atomic or subatomic resolution in all three dimensions. The tip is scanned over the surface by two piezo translators mounted parallel (X-piezo and Y-piezo) to the surface and perpendicular to each other. The voltage applied to the third piezo (Z-piezo) translator mounted perpendicular to the surface to maintain the tunneling current through the gap at a constant level reflects then the topography of the surface. The feed back control loop for the constant gap current is designed using the automatic control technique. In the designing process of the feed back loop, the identification of the gap dynamics is very complex and has difficulty. In this research, using some suitable test signals, the system dynamics of the gap including the Z-piezo are investigated. Especially, in this paper, a system model is proposed for the gap and Z-piezo series system. Indicial response is used to find out the model. The driving voltage of the Z-piezo and the tunneling current are considered as input and output signals respectively.
Typhoon Maemi landed on the southeast coast of Korea and caused a severe storm surge in Jinhae Bay and Masan Bay. The tide gage in Masan Port recorded the storm surge of a maximum of more than 2m and the area of more than 700m from the Seo Hang Wharf was flooded by the storm surge. They had not met such an extremely severe storm surge since the opening of the port. Then storm surge was hindcasted with a numerical model. The typhoon pressure was approximated by Myers' empirical model and super gradient wind around the typhoon eye wall was considered in the wind estimation. The land topography surrounding Jinhae Bay and Masan Bay is so complex that the computed wind field was modified with the 3D-MASCON model. The motion of seawater due to the atmospheric forces was simulated using a one-layer model based on non-linear long wave approximation. The Janssen's wave age dependent drag coefficient on the sea surface was calculated in the wave prediction model WAM cycle 4 and the coefficient was inputted to the storm surge model. The result shows that the storm surge hindcasted by the numerical model was in good agreement with the observed one.
