  • Complex regional pain syndrome type 1(CRPS 1) is a neuropathic pain disorder that accompanies severe pain and motor deficit as well as changes in the skin in the extremities. The pathophysiology of CRPS 1 is still not exactly elucidated. However, the general consensus of involvement of inflammatory mediators in the development of CRPS 1 is amply made. On the basis that placental extract successfully inhibited the production of inflammatory cytokines and mediators in several experimental models, we have tried a long-term weekly injection of placental extract into acupuncture points to a CRPS 1 patient suffering pain and immobilization of shoulder joint. The results say that placental extract effectively resolved pain, restored skin color and improved immobilization of shoulder joint in the CRPS 1 patient.

  • Ornithine decarboxylase(ODC) is an indicate enzyme in carcinogenesis. We divided Sprague Dawley rats into six groups: control, electric field exposure, X-ray only irradiation, X-ray irradiation with electric field exposure group, Sr-90 injected group and Sr-90 and electric field complex exposure group. The ODC activity was measured in rat's bone marrow cell every week. The results were summarized as follows: The ODC activitied was increased in X-ray irradiated, Sr-90 injected and Sr-90 and electric field complex exposed group as compared with that of control(p<0.05). The ODC activity was increased comparing that of control neither in X-ray and electric field complex exposed group nor electric field only exposed group. This result suggests that the electric field doesn't have myeloid carcinogenicity and myeloid cancer incidence caused by ionized radiation is suppressed by electric field exposure.

  • Two impedance imaging systems of multi-frequency electrical impedance tomography (MFEIT) and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT) are described. MFEIT utilizes boundary measurements of current-voltage data at multiple frequencies to reconstruct cross-sectional images of a complex conductivity distribution (${\sigma}+i{\omega}{\varepsilon}$) inside the human body. The inverse problem in MFEIT is ill-posed due to the nonlinearity and low sensitivity between the boundary measurement and the complex conductivity. In MFEIT, we therefore focus on time- and frequency-difference imaging with a low spatial resolution and high temporal resolution. Multi-frequency time- and frequency-difference images in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 500 kHz are presented. In MREIT, we use an MRI scanner to measure an internal distribution of induced magnetic flux density subject to an injection current. This internal information enables us to reconstruct cross-sectional images of an internal conductivity distribution with a high spatial resolution. Conductivity image of a postmortem canine brain is presented and it shows a clear contrast between gray and white matters. Clinical applications for imaging the brain, breast, thorax, abdomen, and others are briefly discussed.

  • In this study,we conducted an injection molding analysis of metal powder materials for the development of flanges, which are necessary adapters for optical communication. The metal powder injection molding process is a technique for producing an injection molded article having a complicated shape by mixing ceramic or stainless powder and binders. It is used to produce products which require complex processing technology or for which the productivity is low. The purpose of this study is to minimize the manufacturing processing of products which are manufactured through existing mechanical processing procedures. For the injection molding analysis, we mixed stainless STS316 metal powder with binders at a ratio of 6 to 4 to make molding materials consisting of granular pellets. Then, three-dimensional modeling and meshing were carried out to obtain the optimal injection molding analysis conditions(molding temperature, melting temperature, injection time, injection temperature, injection pressure, packing time and cooling time). As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that the inlet became available 13.29 seconds after the first injection. Also, as the flowing and packing in the melt through the sprue, runner and gate were stable, it is expected that good molds can be manufactured.

  • In the present paper an attempt has been made to simulate the secondary injection-primary flow interaction in the conical rocket nozzle and to derive the performance of secondary injection thrust vector control(SITVC) system. Complex three-dimensional flowfield induced by the secondary injection is numerically analyzed by solving unsteady three-dimensional Euler equation with Beam and Warming's implicit approximate factorization method. Emphasized in the present study is the effect of secondary injection such as secondary mass flow rates and the momentum of secondary/primary nozzle flow mass rates upon the gross system performance parameters such as thrust ratio, specific impulse ratio and deflection angle. The results obtained in terms of system performance parameters show that lower secondary mass flow rate is advantageous for to reduce secondary specific impulse loss. It is further found that the nozzle with secondary jet injected downstream and interacting with fast primary flow is preferable for efficient and stable SITVC over the wide range of use with the penalty of side specific impulse loss.

  • The results of systematic numerical experiments of secondary gas injection thrust vector control are presented. The effects of secondary injection system such as injection location and nozzle divergent cone angle onto the overall performance parameters such as thrust ratio, specific impulse ratio and axial thrust augmentation, are investigated. Complex nozzle exhaust flows induced by the secondary jet penetration is numerically analyzed by solving unsteady three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model for closure. Numerical simulations compared with the experiments of secondary air injection into the rocket nozzle of $9.6^{\cire}$ divergent half angle showed good agreement. The results obtained in terms of overall performance parameters showed that locating the secondary injection orifice further downstream of primary nozzle ensures the prevention of occurrence of reflected shock wave, therefore is suitable for efficient and stable thrust vectoring over a wide range of use.

  • Spectrophotometric determination of cobalt by flow injection method is described. 2-(5-Bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-(N-propyl-N-sulfopropylamino) aniline rapidly forms a water-soluble complex with cobalt in $NH_3-NH_4Cl$ buffer solution at pH 10.5. The absorption maxima of this complex is at 545 nm with molar absorptivity of $58000L\;mol^{-1}\;cm^{-1}$. The calibration curve of cobalt is linear over the range of 0.1 to 0.6ppm and the detection limit is 25ppb. The relative standard deviation is ${\pm}0.72%$ for 0.5ppm and the sampling rate is $60samples\;hr^{-1}$. The interfering effect of some cations and anions was investigated. Ni(II), Cu(II), Fe(III) and $CN^-$ interfered severely. The interfering effect of these matallic ions could be decreased by adding $1.0{\times}10^{-3}M$ EDTA solution to the carrier stream.

  • The human physiological systems are so complex and irregular dynamics. Dynamics of peripheral blood vessel, in particular, have quite sensitive and complex. Before, the linear analytic method have been used to analyze the system. But, the method have many problems to predict the following results. In the other hand, the nonlinear analytic method, chaotic time series analysis method, is suitable for measuring complex, vary system. In this study, the scalar data of the blood flow of peripheral blood vessel of rabbits, in accordance with injection of glucose, was obtained and redefined as multi-dimensional vectors, with time-series analytic methods. This study also intended to confirm that the peripheral blood flow is chaotic dynamics and evaluate the availability of non-linear analytic method. As a result, the existing FFT, and mean could show the difference of blood flow of peripheral blood vessel by injection of glucose, but the nonlinear analytic method could show the definite difference. The hemodynamics is a chaotic phenomenon.

  • A theoretical model was developed to describe the flow behavior of a filled polymer in the packing stage of reaction injection molding and predict the residual stress distribution of thin injection-molded parts. The model predictions were compared with experiments performed for phenol-formaldehyde resin filled with wood dust and cured by urotropine. The packing stage of reaction injection molding process presents a typical example of complex non-isothermal flow combined with chemical reaction. It is shown that the time evolution of pressure distribution along the mold cavity that determines the residual stress in the final product can be described by a single 1D partial differential equation (PDE) if the rheological behavior of reacting liquid is simplistically described by the power-law approach with some approximations made for describing cure reaction and non-isothermality. In the formulation, the dimensionless time variable is defined in such a way that it includes all necessary information on the cure reaction history. Employing the routine separation of variables made possible to obtain the analytical solution for the nonlinear PDE under specific initial condition. It is shown that direct numerical solution of the PDE exactly coincides with the analytical solution. With the use of the power-law approximation that describes highly shear thinning behavior, the theoretical calculations significantly deviate from the experimental data. Bearing in mind that in the packing stage the flow is extremely slow, we employed in our theory the Newtonian law for flow of reacting liquid and described well enough the experimental data on evolution of pressure.
