  • While screening for nematicidal activity of bacterial origins, various pseudomonads strains were inhabited in tomato rhizosphere. One isolate designated as $PE_{10}$ was selected for studies on nematicidal properties and plant growth-promoting (PGP) activity and was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa based on morphological features, biochemical and physiological tests, and carbohydrate utilization. To investigate nematicidal activity, Meloidogyne incognita juvenile mortality was determined using $PE_{10}$ culture filtrate. Inhibition of strain $PE_{10}$ against Fusarium oxysporum was observed using dual culture technique. Strain $PE_{10}$ showed good siderophore activity, HCN and IAA production abilities, and growth and development enhancement of tomato.

  • In this study, genus Cosmarium, 3 species, 2 varieties, 1 forma were sampled at 14 stations from August 1987 to July 1988. The character variations in populations were studied from the cultured plants. As a result, 1 species, 1 variety and 1 forma were treated as synonyms according to the polymorphism found at the same colony. C. angulosum f. rotundatum was different from C. angulosum by the front view, but C. angulosum type and C. angulosum f. rotundatum type occurred simultaneously in the same colony. C. angulosum f. rotundatum was included in C. angulosum which is type species. c. auriculatum, C. subauriculatum and C. subauriculatum var. truncatum have been sorted by the shape of cell and the number of granules at the lower sides of semicell. For three types occurred at the same colony, those species and variety treated as synonym of C. auriculatum which was named first.

  • Cosmarium candianum and C. obtusatum were sampled at 11 stations in Korea from October 1987 to June 1988. The samplings were cultured for study of the character variations in colonies. As a result, C. candianum var. candianum f. minutum, C. candianum var. depressum and C. candianum var. latius need not be separated from C. candianum, because 4 types in C. candianum complex occurred simultaneously in the same colony. It was changed the species reported as C. circulare Reinsch in Korea presently into C. candianum Delponte according to Compere's review. Because 2 types of C. obtusatum complex occurred at the same colony, C. obtusatum var. beanlandii need not separated from C. obtusatum.

  • An increased use of teams of actors within complex systems has led to the emergence of various approaches for the assessment of different features associated with team performance. Over the last two decades, the performance of teams in complex systems has received considerable attention from the human factors community, and a number of methods have been developed in order to assess and evaluate team performance. The purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology for measuring team efficiency of operators in the advanced main control room of Korean nuclear power plant. Team efficiency is an index which is estimated of gabs between individual performances and team performance. The index was developed to compare among teams through past all performance measurements.

  • The R locus of maize in one of several genes that regulate the anthocyanin pigments throughout the body of the plant and seed. The R gene product may regulate pigment deposition by controlling the expression of the flavonoid biosynthetic gene pathway in a tissue-specific manner. To understand the basis for tissue specific regulation and allelic variation at R, the molecular study has been done by cloning a portion of the R complex by transposon tagging with Ac. R specific probe were cloned from the R-nj mutant induced by Ac insertion mutagenesis. From southern analysis of R-r complex using the R-nj probe, the structure of R-r was proposed that R-r containes the three elements, (P)(Q)(S). These elements may organize as the inversion triplication model which (S) sequence was inverted in relation to (P) and (Q). The R-sc derivated from R-mb or R-nj was cloned with R-nj probe, and molecular genetical data showed that R-sc containes tissue specific and tissue nonspecific area, and the sequencing of R-sc are progressed now.

  • Chlorella ellipsoidea were grown in a Mg-free medium. Aliquots of the algal cell were taken out at the beginning and predetermined time intervals during the culture and were analyzed the contents of phosphate in various fractions of the cell constituents. The results obtained were compared with those of the control. When Chlorella cells were grown in a Mg-free medium, the contents of phosphate in the DNA protein, RNA-olyphosphate complex, nucleotidic-lbileP, and PCA-soluble, fractions decreased compared with those of the control, while the content of acid insoluble polyphosphate increased significantly. On the otherhand, RNA-P and lipid-P showed the tendency of decrease at the early stage of the culture, but they were increased more than those in the control as culture proceeds. It is showed that phosphate turnover from acid-insoluble polyphosphate into DNA, protein, and RNA-polyphosphate complex was inhibited by magnesium-deficiency of the cells.

  • The disassembly of Chl-protein complexes during dark-induced senescence (DIS) was investigated using detached third and fourthleaves of 21$\pm$1 day-old Arabidopsis thaliana. Although Chl content decreased linearly after 1 d, a significant decrease of photochemical effeciency (Fv/Fm) was observed after 2 d. In experiments using native green gel electrophoresis of Chl-protein complexes combined with additional two-dimensional SDS-PAGE analysis, we could observe the degradation of both photosystems after 2 d. Although light-harvesting complex(LHC) for PSI (LHCI) was degraded first in PSI complex, small PSII apoproteins including CP47/CP43 and D1/D2 apoproteins were degraded first in PSII complexes. LHC for PSII (LHCII) trimers were stable until 4 d. The level of LHCII monomers was increased until 3 and decreased thereafter, resulting in the increase of free pigments. These results suggest that the disassembly process of PSI is different from that of PSII.

  • Gibberellea fujikuroi species (Gf) complex comprises at least 15 species, most of which not only causes serious plant diseases, but also produces mycotoxins including fumonisins. Here, we focused on the abilities of the field isolates belonging to the Gf complex associated with rice and corn, respectively in Korea to produce fumonisin, all of which were confirmed to carry FUM1, the polyketide synthase gene essential for fumonisin biosynthesis. A total of 88 Gf complex isolates (55 F. fujikuroi, 10 F. verticillioides, 20 F. proliferatum, 2 F. subglutinans, and 1 F. concentricum), and 4 isolates of F. commune, which is a non-member of Gf complex, were grown on rice substrate and determined for their production levels of fumonisins by a HPLC method. Most isolates of F. verticillioides and F. proliferatum, regardless of host origins, produced fumonisin $B_1$ and $B_2$ at diverse ranges of levels ($0.5-2,686.4{\mu}g/g$, and $0.7-1,497.6{\mu}g/g$, respectively). In contrast, all the isolates of F. fujikuroi and other Fusarium species examined produced no fumonisins or only trace amounts ($<10{\mu}g/g$) of fumonisins. Interestingly, the frequencies of relatively high fumonisin-producers among the F. proliferatum and F. fujikuroi isolates derived from corn were higher than those among the fungal isolates from rice. In addition, it is a first report demonstrating the ability of the FUM1-carrying F. commune isolates from rice to produce fumonisins.

  • The Aconitum alboviolaceum Kom. complex includes four controversial species described from Korea; A. albouiolaceum, A. pseudolaeue, A. longecassidatum, and A. quelpaertense. The main objective of this study was to determine the taxonomic identities and systematic relationships among the species in the A. albouiolaceum complex based on morphology, numerical analyses and DNA sequence analysis. In the present study, variations in the principal morphological characters and chloroplast DNA noncoding region sequences (psbA-trnH IGS, trnL intron, and trnL-trnF IGS) were examined for 95 individuals from 20 populations. Also, neighbor-joining analysis was adopted to infer their relationships. Morphological variation appeared to be considerably high but not to be related to geographic distribution. These morphological results suggest that reevaluation of key morphological characters are needed for the proper taxonomic treatment of the complex. The length of psbA-trnH IGS region ranged from 241 to 250 bp, that of the trnL intron from 526 to 532 bp, and that of the trnL-trnF IGS region from 466 to 472 by in all taxa. Nine haplotypes were recognized from the analysis. Seven populations shared more than two haplotypes, while other thirteen populations shared only one haplotype. In the phylogenetic analysis, the nine haplotypes formed four groups, separated A. sibiricum, one of the sister groups of the complex. There also was no distinct grouping pattern supporting the species and populations observed. These results suggest that introgression or speciation might have been involved in the formation of taxa of A. alboviolaceum complex.

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the odor around an industrial complex area (#1-#5) and the operational effects of the Odor Monitoring System in Seo-gu in Daegu City. Methods: Samples were collected from November 2012 to December 2018 and were analyzed for complex odor. The odor occurrence rate and the odor reduction rate were calculated. Results: In 2018, the mean concentration of complex odor decreased 20.9% and the odor occurrence rate decreased from 65.0 to 27.5% around the industrial complex area (#1-#5) in Seo-gu compared to 2013. After the operation of the Odor Monitoring System, the standard excess rate (3.0%→40.8%) and the excess concentration of complex odor (1,442→4,304) increased at odor-emitting workplaces. In addition, the mean concentration of complex odor (15.9%) and the odor occurrence rate (60.6%→32.9%) around the industrial complex area (#1-#5) and the number of odor complaints (23.4%) in Seo-gu decreased. Conclusion: In order to reduce the odor around the industrial complex area, it is important to improve the odor emitting facilities. The Odor Monitoring System uses scientific and systematic monitoring methods that can help control and manage the odor emission facilities.
