  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of extracorporeal shock wave therapy for the neck-shouler muscles of complex pain scales of the 20s adults with VDT Syndrome to prolonged smartphone use. Twenty subjects with neck pain due to VDT syndrome participated in the experiment. They were randomly divided into 10 experimental groups and 10 control groups. Experimental subjects were conducted for 4 weeks, 5 days a week. The experimental group was subjected to extracorporeal shock wave therapy 2000 times at an intensity of 5 Hz and 2.0 bar once, and the control group performed self-stretching exercise for 30 minutes once. Subjects measured and compared neck-shoulder pain with VAS and PPT before and after the experiment. Data analysis was performed with SPSS win 18.0, and correspondence comparison was performed to analyze the results of the experimental group and the control group before and after the experiment. After the experiment, the experimental group decreased more in VAS and PPT of the neck-shoulder muscle. but the control group was no difference. Though these results, extracorporeal shock wave therapy was showed a reduction in pain after treatment than before treatment but there are no difference in the pain reduction after self-stretching exercise. Thus, extracorporeal shock wave therapy is expected to be used as a variety of treatments to reduce neck-shoulder pain as a cause of VDT syndrome.

  • Background: The effects of exercise on pulmonary function are complex and have been the subject of many investigations. But, there has been disputes about the effect of exercise on spirometric parameters and there is no study about the effect of exercise on IOS(Impulse Oscillometry)parameters. IOS, a new method of pulmonary function test, is based on the relationship between the pressure and flow oscillation which is produced by applying sinusoidal pressure oscillation to the respiratory system via the mouth. Method: Fifty-nine young adults without respiratory symptoms were divided into three groups according to degree of exercise(hard exercise group: mean exercise time is over three hours per week at least for the last one month, light exercise group : between thirty minutes to three hours, nonexercise group : less than thirty minutes) and undertaken pulmonary function test(simple spirometry and IOS). Results: The effects of exercise on spirometric parameters; percentage of predictive value of forced vital capacity(FVC % pred) was higher in hard exercise group than nonexercise group(hard exercise group: $102.4{\pm}14.8$, nonexercise group: $93.7{\pm}9.9$, p=0.017), but there was no significant difference in percentage of predicted value of forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV 1 % pred) and percentage of predicted value of forced expiratory flow 50% (FEF 50% pred) between groups. The effects of exercise on IOS parameters: Reactance at 5Hz(X5) was significantly lower in hard exercise group than nonexercise group(hard exercise group: $-0.166{\pm}0.123hPa/1/s$, nonexercise group: $-0.093{\pm}0.036hPa/1/s$, p=0.006) but there was no significant difference in central resistance(Rc), peripheral resistance(Rp), resonance frequency(RF) and resistance at 5Hz, 20Hz between groups. Conclusion: Hard exercise increased FVC % pred on spirometric parameters and decreased reactance at 5Hz(X5) on IOS parameters.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of complex ergogenic aid supplementation on endurance performance, energy substrate utilization (glucose, FFA) and blood fatigue factors (ammonia, lactate, phosphorous, pH, 5-HT) in endurance exercise. Subjects (male=10) took in complex ergogenic aid (180 ml/day) for 4 weeks and were tested after pre-test. Endurance performance times increased after supplementation compared to before supplementation. However, there was no additional accumulation of the fatigue materials. Thus the complex ergogenic aid supplementation caused the delay of the fatigue material accumulation during endurance exercise.

  • Resistance training (RT) is associated with reduced risk of low grade inflammation related diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The majority of the data studying cytokines and exercise comes from endurance exercise. In contrast, evidence establishing a relationship between RT and inflammation is more limited. This review focuses on the cytokine responses both following an acute bout, and after chronic RT. In addition, the effect of RT on low grade systemic inflammation such as individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes is reviewed. Cytokines are secreted proteins that influence the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of immune cells and other organ systems. Cytokines function as intracellular signals and almost all cells in the body either secrete them or have cytokine receptors. Thus, understanding cytokine role in a specific physiological situation such as a bout of RT can be exceedingly complex. The overall effect of long term RT appears to ameliorate inflammation, but the specific effects on the inflammatory cytokine, tumor necrosis factor alpha are not clear, requiring further research. Furthermore, it is critical to differentiate between chronically and acute Interleukin-6 levels and its sources. The intensity of the RT and the characteristics of the training protocol may exert singular cytokine responses and as a result different adaptations to exercise. More research is needed in the area of RT in healthy populations, specifically sorting out gender and age RT acute responses. More importantly, studies are needed in obese individuals who are at high risk of developing low grade systemic inflammatory related diseases. Assuring adherence to the RT program is essential to get the benefits after overcoming the first acute RT responses. Hence RT could be an effective way to prevent, and delay low grade systemic inflammatory related diseases.

  • The purpose of the study was to perform trend analysis of the exercise content i.e. element difficulty distribution scores, element group distribution scores obtained by the athletes during 2014 Korea Cup International Gymnastic finals. The conclusion drawn from the analysis are as follows: Firstly in terms of tournament technical difficulty value, Korean athletes showed characteristics of reliance on swing element rather than strength hold element which could actually secure higher difficulty scores. Secondly, skill acquisition of higher difficulty value is demanded by taking advantage of familiar characteristics from the swing element i.e. Jonasson and Roll bwd. Slowly with str. arms and body to swallow (2s.). Thirdly, development of sensory training and strengthening exercise program are essential to enhance strength hold technique.

  • Background: The gluteus maximus (GM) muscle comprise the lumbo-pelvic complex and is an important stabilizing muscle during leg extension. In patients with low back pain (LBP) with weakness of the GM, spine leads to compensatory muscle activities such as instantaneous increase of the erector spinae (ES) muscle activity. Four-point kneeling arm and leg lift (FKALL) is most common types of lumbopelvic and GM muscles strengthening exercise. We assumed that altered hip position during FKALL may increase thoraco-lumbar stabilizer like GM activity more effectively method. Objects: The purpose of this study was investigated that effects of the three exercise postures on the right-sided GM, internal oblique (IO), external oblique (EO), and multifidus (MF) muscle activities and pelvic kinematic during FKALL. Methods: Twenty eight healthy individuals participated in this study. The exercises were performed three conditions of FKALL (pure FKALL, FKALL with 120° hip flexion of the supporting leg, FKALL with 30° hip abduction of the lifted leg). Participants performed FKALL exercises three times each condition, and motion sensor used to measure pelvic tilt and rotation angle. Results: This study demonstrated that no significant change in pelvic angle during hip movement in the FKALL (p > 0.05). However, the MF and GM muscle activities in FKALL with hip flexion and hip abduction is greater than pure FKALL position (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Our finding suggests that change the posture of the hip joint to facilitate GM muscle activation during trunk stabilization exercises such as the FKALL.

  • The purpose of this article was to provide basic knowledge and treatment principles of patient with lymphedema, which was usually not treated at all, or the treatment given didn't work efficiently. Lmphedema is defined as an abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid, edema, and chronic inflammation within an extremity. Lmphedema may be classified as either primary results from defects with aplasia, hypoplasia, and hyperplasia in the lymphatic system at birth or secondary is caused by known precipitating factors such as cancer, infection, inflammation, radiation, surgery, or trauma etc. There are essentially several conservative treatment methods which has been utilized successfully to treat lymphedema in Samsung Medical Center. We used following procedures: CPT (Complex Physical therapy) or CDP (Complex Decongesitive Physical therapy) such as skin care, MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage), compression with short-stretch bandage, exercise, elevation, elastic stocking, and pneumatic compression. Our experiences shows that conservative treatments can significantly reduce lymphedema and prevent different complications.

  • Analyzing the ECG signal, we can find heart disease. Myocardial ischemia is a disorder of cardiac function caused by insufficient blood flow to the muscle tissue of the heart. Myocardial ischemia is inscribed on ST-segment of the ECG during and after patient takes exercise or is under stress, but after long time past, the ECG pattern is return to steady state. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor and analyze the ECG signal continuously for patient or aged people. Our primary purpose is the detection of temporary change of the ST-segment of ECG automatically. In the signal processing, the wavelet transform decomposes the ECG signal into high and low frequency components using wavelet function. Recomposing the high frequency bands including QRS complex, we can detect QRS complex more easily ...
