  • The channel capacity of fadingchannel becomes less than that of Gaussian noise channel. Moreover, the channel capacity of system with modulated signal is expected to be much less than that of system with nonmodulated signal. It is very difficult to evaluate the capacity in fading channel with modulated signal. The channel capacity for M-ary PSK signal has already been derived in Gaussian noise channel but it is very complicate form composed of complex integral formula. In this paper, we have derived the simple form of channel capacity with M-ary PSK signal by using the average symbol error rate. And we also evaluate the capacity in Rician and m-distribution fading channels as well as Gaussian noise channel. We have verified that the channel capacity obtained are almost the same as in other literature. As a results, we show that the channel capacity of M-art PSK signal increases to converge to the number of bits per symbol (log M) as signal to-noise power ratio increases.

  • The paper investigates a novel detector receiver with Kalman channel information estimator and iterative channel response equalization for MIMO (multi-input multi-output) OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) communication systems in fast multipath fading environments. The performances of the existing linear equalizers (LE) are not good enough over most fast fading multipath channels. The existing adaptive equalizer with decision feedback structure (ADFE) can improve the performance of LE. But error-propagation effect seriously degrades the system performance of the ADFE, especially when operated in fast multipath fading environments. By considering the Kalman channel impulse response estimation for the fast fading multipath channels based on CE-BEM (complex exponential basis expansion) model, the paper proposes the iterative receiver with soft decision feedback equalization (SDFE) structure in the fast multipath fading environments. The proposed SDFE detector receiver combats the error-propagation effect for fast multipath fading channels and outperform the existing LE and ADFE. We demonstrate several simulations to confirm the ability of the proposed iterative receiver over the existing receivers.

  • In this paper, various of pilot-assisted channel estimation techniques for 3GPP LTE downlink are tested under multipath Rayleigh fading channel. At first, the conventional channel estimation techniques are applied with linear zero-forcing (ZF) equalizer, such as one dimensional least square (1-D LS) linear interpolation, two dimensional (2-D) wiener filter, the time and frequency dimension separate wiener filter and maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). Considering the practical implementation, we proposed two channel estimation techniques by combining time-dimension wiener filter and MLE in two manners, which showed a good tradeoff between system performance and complexity when comparing with conventional techniques. The nonlinear decision feedback equalizer (DFE) which can show a better performance than linear ZF equalizer is also implemented for mitigating inter-carrier interference (ICI) in our system. The complexity of these algorithms are calculated in terms of the number of complex multiplications (CMs) and the performances are evaluated by showing the bit error rate (BER).

  • The scattered pilots employed in DVB-T take advantage of the merits of both the block type and comb type pilot arrangement to increase the transmission efficiency. To estimate the channel transfer functions for data subcarriers, it is required to conduct time-frequency domain 2D estimation using the pilots. Though 2D Wiener estimator is optimal in sense of MSE (mean square error), it is too complex to implement in hardware. In this paper a new channel estimation method for the scattered pilot based OFDM system by measuring the power of AWGN and removing the noise in the LS (least square) estimate of the channel is proposed. And the simulation results reveal the proposed method outperforms the 2D linear interpolation in the fading channel.

  • Doubly-selective (DS) fading channel is often occurred in many orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems, such as high-speed rail communication systems and underwater acoustic (UWA) wireless networks. It is challenging to provide an accurate and fast estimation over the doubly-selective channel, due to the strong Doppler shift. This paper addresses the doubly selective channel estimation problem based on complex exponential basis expansion model (CE-BEM) in OFDM systems from the perspective of distributed compressive sensing (DCS). We propose a novel DCS-based improved sparsity adaptive matching pursuit (DCS-IMSAMP) algorithm. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it can exploit the joint channel sparsity information using dynamic threshold, variable step size and tailoring mechanism. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves 5dB performance gain with faster operation speed, in comparison with traditional DCS-based sparsity adaptive matching pursuit (DCS-SAMP) algorithm.

  • The one-dimensional (1D) finite-difference method (FDM) with Abbott-Ionescu scheme and the two-dimensional (2D) finite-volume method (FVM) with an approximate Riemann solver (Osher scheme) for unsteady flow calculation in river are described. The two models have been applied to several problems including flow in a straight channel, flow in a slightly meandering channel and a flow in a meandering channel. The uniform rectangular channel was employed for the purpose of comparing results. A comparison is made between the results of computation on 1D and 2D flows including straight channel, slightly meandering channel and meandering channel application. The implementation of the finite-volume method allows complex boundary geometry represented. Agreement between FVM and FDM results regarding the discharge and stage is considered very satisfactory in straight channel application. It was concluded that a 1D analysis is sufficient if the channel is prismatic and remains straight. For curved (meandering) channels, a 2D or 3D model must be used in order to model the flow accurately.

  • The number of channels specified in IEEE 802.15.4 Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks(LRWPANs) is too few to operate many applications of WPANs in the same area. To overcome this limit, we introduce Virtual Channel, a novel concept to increase the number of available channels when various WPAN applications coexist. Basically, a virtual channel is a newly-created channel via superframe scheduling within the inactive period of a logical channel preoccupied by other WPANs. To maximize the coexistence capability of WPANs using virtual channels, we propose Least Collision superframe scheduler(LC-scheduler), its less complex heuristics both for a given single channel, and Virtual Channel Selector(VCS) to efficiently manage multiple available logical channels. In addition, a simple but practical synchronization method is developed to compensate different time drifts among coexisting WPANs. The simulation results demonstrate that a remarkable improvement on the coexistence capability of the 802.15.4 can be achieved through the proposed schemes.

  • Space-time coding was designed for an efficient transmit diversity technique to improve performance of wireless communication. For the transmit diversity using space-time coding, the receiver requires to estimate channel parameters corresponding to each transmit antennas. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel estimation scheme based on trigonometric polynomial approximation in OFDM systems with transmit diversity using space-time coding. The proposed scheme is more efficient than the conventional scheme in terms of the computational complexity. For QAM modulation, when the size of FFH is 128, the conventional scheme with significant tap caching of 7 requires 9852 complex multiplications for TU, HT and BU channels. But the proposed scheme requires 2560, 7680 and 3584 complex multiplications for TU, HT and BU channels, respectively. Especially, for channels with smaller Doppler frequency and delay spreads, the proposed scheme has the improved BER performance and complexity. In addition, we evaluate the performance of maximum delay spread estimation in unknown channel. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated by computer simulation in various multi-path fading environments.

  • A digital satellite communication channel has a nonlinearity with memory due to saturation characeristis of the high poer amplifier in the satellite and transmitter/receiver linear filter used in the overall system. In this paper, we propose a complex radial basis function network(CRBFN) based adaptive equalizer for compensation of nonlinearities in digital satellite communication channels. The proposed CRBFN untilizes a complex-valued hybrid learning algorithm of k-means clustering and LMS(least mean sequare) algorithm that is an extension of Moody Darken's algorithm for real-valued data. We evaluate performance of CRBFN in terms of symbol error rates and mean squared errors nder various noise conditions for 4-PSK(phase shift keying) digital modulation schemes and compare with those of comples pth order inverse adaptive Volterra filter. The computer simulation results show that the proposed CRBFN ehibits good equalization, low computational complexity and fast learning capabilities.

  • Today, digital shoppers express increasingly complex buying behavior. They can use multiple channels for shopping and also they can switch from one to another channel almost effortlessly, in the result of engaging in omnichannel shopping behavior. A few years ago, consumers were using brick and mortar stores to make their purchases. However, nowadays, they possess different digital devices (mobile and/or desktop) to search for different alternatives and to make a better shopping choice. These devices (mobile and desktop) are different and offer unique benefits to consumers. However, there has been very little research that has treated mobile and desktop devices separately. Perhaps this study is the pioneer when it comes to investigating the effect of regulatory focus (prevention vs. promotion) and chronotype (morning and evening person) on a sample of university students using desktop and mobile channels for their shopping. The findings from a sample of 312 digital consumers (mobile and/or desktop) confirmed that the desktop channel provides a greater fit for morning-type respondents and that the mobile channel offers better value for evening-type respondents in e-retail. Furthermore, promotion-focused shoppers favor the mobile channel, and prevention-focused shoppers favor the desktop channel. The new insights and contributions of this study provide a better understanding of digital consumers to help sellers to develop a more effective e-retail strategy.
