  • Objective : To assess the impact of the complete resection of craniopharyngioma (CP) in adults on oncologic and functional outcomes. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed 82 patients with CP who were surgically treated by the same neurosurgeon at our institution between January 1994 and December 2012. Results : Gross total resection (GTR) was achieved in 71 patients (86.6%), near total resection (NTR) in 7 patients (8.5%), and subtotal resection (STR) in 3 patients (3.7%). The disease-specific overall survival rate was 100% with the exclusion of 2 surgery-related mortalities. The overall recurrence rate was 12.2% (10 of 82 patients), however the recurrence rate according to extent of resection (EOR) was 9.9% (7 of 71 patients) after GTR, 14.3% (1 of 7 patients) after NTR, and 66.7% (2 of 3 patients) after STR. The overall recurrence-free survival (RFS) rates at 5 and 10 years were 87.0% and 76.8%, respectively. Postoperatively, most patients (86.3%) needed hormone replacement for at least 1 hypothalamic-pituitary axis. Vision improved in 56.4% of the patients with preoperative abnormal vision, but deteriorated in 27.4% of patients. Hypothalamic dysfunction developed in 32.9% of patients. There were no significant differences in the risks of pituitary dysfunction, visual deterioration, or hypothalamic dysfunction between the groups with complete vs. incomplete removal. The overall rate of postoperative complications was 22.0%, which did not differ between groups (p=0.053). Conclusion : The complete removal of a CP at first surgery can provide a chance for a cure with acceptable morbidity and mortality risks.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the coincidence between keywords of Journal of the Korean Society of Physical Medicine (JKSPM) and MeSH terms, a controlled vocabulary used in MEDLINE. Methods : A total of 838 keywords used in 252 papers of JKSPM from Vol.1, No.1, 2006 to Vol.7, No.1, 2012 were compared with MeSH terms. All of keywords are classified to three large categories; complete coincidence, incomplete coincidence, and complete incoincidence. Results : The keywords in complete coincidence category were 183(21.8%), the keywords in incomplete coincidence category were 378(45.1%), and the keywords in complete incoincidence category were 277(33%). The most used keyword in complete coincidence category was 'stroke' and in complete incoincidence category was 'balance'. The most used keyword matching entry terms in incomplete coincidence category was 'elderly'. Conclusion : The rate of complete coincidene of keywords with MeSH terms was not higher than the rates of incomplete coincidence and complete incoincidence. It is necessary to understand MeSH terms more accurately and specifically. The JKSPM should ask the authors to use MeSH terms as keyword when they submit the paper.

  • Objective: We studied the effect of the site of laser zona opening on the complete hatching of mouse blastocysts and the cell numbers of the completely hatched blastocysts. Methods: Mouse blastocysts were randomly allocated to the inner cell mass (ICM) group (zona opening performed at the site of the ICM, n=125), the trophectoderm (TE) group (zona opening performed opposite to the ICM, n=125) and the control group (no zona opening, n=125). Results: The rate of complete hatching of the blastocysts was not significantly different in the ICM and the TE group (84.8% vs 80.8%, respectively; p=0.402), but was significantly lower in the control group (51.2%, p<0.001). The cell numbers in the completely hatched blastocysts were comparable in the control group, the ICM group, and the TE group ($69{\pm}19.3$, $74{\pm}15.7$, and $71{\pm}16.8$, respectively; p=0.680). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the site of laser zona opening did not influence the rate of complete hatching of mouse blastocysts or their cell numbers.

  • Construction industry has particular properties of non-continuity of production, and non-stability of market comparing to other industries. Because of them, the practical construction cost is more difficultly recognized than in manufacturing industry, so, that is various according to many projects. Therefore, it is very hard work to standardize construction cost, and it is worthy of analyzing and measuring exactly construction cost. On this study, the trouble in producing expected construction cost with original cost calculation method is progressed by the data of cost items in complete works. On the basis of analyzing data, as expected cost of practical construction is measured, it can be referred to the method and the standard of indirect labor cost rate in construction.

  • In order to search for potential antidotes for T-2 toxin poisoning, seven Chinese herbal drug extracts and five natural constituents were tested on mice intoxicated with T-2 toxin. When extracts of Panax ginseng and Atractylodes japonica (500 mg/kg) were administered p.o. once 3 hrs before and once 1 hr after T-2 toxin treatment, a 30% complete survival rate was noted. In case of Paeonia albiflora var. typica, a 30% complete survival rate was also produced at a dose of 250 mg/kg. Other extracts, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Rehmannia glutinosa and Plantago asiatica exhibited no significant protection from the T-2 toxin poisoning. A nucleoside, thymidine showed protective activity against T-2 toxin toxicity and it produced a 40% complete survival rate when administered i.p. once 0.5 hr after T-2 toxin treatment. Other natural constituents, aucubin, vitamin C and E, and lipoic acid did not show any significant protective activities.

  • Objective of the present study were to investigate effects of different levels of concentrate in complete rations on nutrient digestibilities and ruminal fermentation in sheep and growth performance in Korean native bulls. Increasing levels of concentrate (35, 50, 65, and 80% of complete rations) improved digestibilities of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and ether extract (EE) without affecting digestibility of neutral detergent (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF). Increasing levels of concentrate decreased ruminal fluid pH but increased concentrations of $NH_3-N$, propionic acid, and total volatile fatty acids (VFA). Both the disappearance rates of DM and nitrogen (N) in an in sacco study were linearly increased as the levels of concentrate in complete rations increased. Meanwhile, increasing levels of concentrate in complete rations improved growth rate and feed conversion ratio in Korean native bulls. In conclusion, the complete rations containing 80% concentrate showed better digestibility and energy supply than those of the lower levels (35, 50 and 65%) of concentrate of the rations, resulting in improved growth performance of Korean native bulls.

  • This study was carried out to select the utilizable vegetations for the stabilization of slopes and river banks, landscape creation and water quality cleansing in dams, lakes and streams. In this study, 4 species were investigated for their survival and growth characteristics in the complete and partly flooding conditions with various flooding periods. The results are as followings; Acorus calamus var. angustatus showed the highest flooding tolerance based on survival rate and growth condition. Equisetum hyemale, Acorus gramineus and Salix gracilistyla followed after Acorus calamus var. angustatus in the order of flooding tolerance. Particularly, A. calamus var. angustatus and E. hyemale showed higher survival rate and grew well even when they were completely submerged in the water up to 120 days. As they were partially submerged longer, they grew better. This ascertained that they had strong flooding tolerance. When A. gramineus were completely submerged in the water, their growth was disturbed but they did not die in the complete submergence up to 120 days. A. gramineus had a small growth disturbance and showed the highest vitality of leaves among the species. Though S. gracilistyla showed somewhat low growth rate in the complete water submergence and died in 90 days, it also can grow back to normal with some changes of water level.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the early outcome of the taxotere and cisplatin chemoradiotherapy for advanced cervical cancer. Fifty-six cases (FIGO II b to IVa) were divided randomly into two groups: radiotherapy alone (28 cases) and radiation plus chemotherapy (TP) group. There was no difference in radiotherapy between the two groups. The RT+C cases who received TP regimen during the radiation, and DDP once weekly injection of vain, according to 20$mg/m^2$ and taxotere once weekly iv according to 35 $mg/m^2$. These regimens were given for 4~5weeks, and some medicines to control vomiting were available for the RT+C cases. The two groups received an oral medicine MA 160mg every day during the treatment. Regarding early outcome, the complete remission rate was 64.3% and partial remission rate was 35.7% in RT+C. The complete remission rate was 32.1% and partial remission rate was 39.3% in RT. The total response rate and complete remission in the RT+C group were higher than that in the RT group. We conclude that taxotere and cisplatin chemoradiotherapy can improve the early outcome of the advanced cervical cancer, the adverse effects being endurable.

  • The Radionuclide test (RN test) using radioactively labelled human albumin microspheres was developed recently to evaluate the patency and functional capacity of the fallopian tubes. 57 infertile women underwent this procedure as a part of their infertility work up. The results of the radionuclide evaluation were compared with those of the hysterosalpingography (HSG) and further the surgical findings of the laparoscopy and laparotomy. In 64.9%(37/57) of the cases, there was complete agreement between radionuclide test (RN test), hysterosalpingography(HSG) and surgical findings. In comparison with surgical findings, RN test showed a complete agreement rate of 89.4%(51/57), a partial agreement rate of 5.3%(3/57) and no agreement rate of 5.3%(3/57), respectively. Likewise, HSG revealed a complete agreement rate of 80.7%(46/57), a partial agreement rate of 10.5%(6/57) and no agreement 8.8%(5/57), respectively. It would appear that as opposed to the traditional HSG, RN test may give a better understanding of the functional capacity of the tube and may prove a useful method before and after tubal surgery.
