The rapid increase of ageing population and chronic disease patients cause high medical expenses, and it led an increased attention to digital healthcare. Smart car technologies for healthcare have been developing to recognize drivers' status and predict diverse driving environments. The present study aimed to understand the research trends of autonomous vehicle technologies of Korea and the United States through time series analysis, network analysis, visualization, and comparison between the two countries. The results suggest that cooperative study needs to be done in common research areas such as driver's safety and algorithms. It is also needed to conduct studies and benchmark about liking technique related to part-to-part and vehicle-to-vehicle as America's competitive advantaged area. In the US, diverse approaches of autonomous vehicle technologies have used to consider the characteristics of various age groups and passengers' health status through sensor, while in Korea, only one aspect, older drivers, is mentioned. Implications for the development direction of autonomous vehicle technologies with competitiveness in considering public health, ethics, and driver's safety and convenience are discussed in detail.

This work focuses on the implementation and optimization of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System(AS/RS) which is associated with Logistics Information System(LIS). We survey literature and present a case study for the optimization of Logistics System. In the case study, we examine the adaptation and implementation of AS/RS after we analyzed the processes of the company. Logistics Information System is an important component to keep up with the competitive advantage in the global business environments. The company in the case applies LIS to its efficient physical distribution management. AS/RS leads to some benefits; maximized storage space, increased productivity, reduced labor costs and human error, and improved accuracy. AS/RS is found especially effective when working with narrow aisles and extremely high racks.

For the purpose of enhancing performances, many companies have tried to ensure the competitive advantages in ties with organization's strategy by putting effort in designing, developing and practicing the information system. Despite the information oriented small and medium enterprises (SME) being suffered from lack of funds, professional man-power and poor environment, fairly evaluating the level of information system within an organization can be a positive starting point for information oriented SME. Therefore in this study, for the purpose of using the SERVQUAL as a measurement tool provided by information system department under the environment of using information system, we try to free from the marketing oriented service category and develop models that are applicable in the information system environment to check reliability and validity. As a result, it is analyzed that enhancements of SERVQUAL simultaneously improves system and information quality which makes the employees satisfy with their working environments and sequentially affects to the collaborative performance of using information system.

Small and medium-sized Korean companies are currently changing their industrial structure faster than in the past due to various environmental factors (such as securing competitiveness and developing excellent products). In particular, the importance of collecting and utilizing data produced in smart factory environments is increasing as diverse devices related to artificial intelligence are put into manufacturing sites. This paper proposes an artificial intelligence-based smart factory model to improve the process of products produced at the manufacturing site with the recent smart factory. The proposed model aims to ensure the increasingly competitive manufacturing environment and minimize production costs. The proposed model is managed by considering not only information on products produced at the site of smart factory based on artificial intelligence, but also labour force consumed in the production of products, working hours and operating plant machinery. In addition, data produced in the proposed model can be linked with similar companies and share information, enabling strategic cooperation between enterprises in manufacturing site operations.

With the rise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and I-Korea 4.0, both of which pursue strategies for industrial innovation and for the solution to social problems, the real estate industry needs to change in order to make effective use of available space in smart environments. The implementation of smart spaces is a promising solution for this. The smart space is defined as a good use of space, whether it be a home, office, or retail store, within a smart environment. To enhance the use of smart spaces, efficient decision-making and well-timed and accurate interaction are required. This paper proposes a smart space based on platform which takes advantage of emerging technologies for the efficient storage, processing, analysis, and utilization of big data. The platform is composed of six layers - collection, transfer, storage, service, application, and management - and offers three service frameworks: activity-based, market-based, and policy-based. Based on these smart space services, decision-makers, consumers, clients, and social network participants can make better decisions, respond more quickly, exhibit greater innovation, and develop stronger competitive advantages.

An abnormal mono-specific bloom of the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa had developed at a specific location (transitional zone, monitoring station of Hoenam) in Daecheong Reservoir from middle of July to early August, 2001. The maximum cell counts during the peak bloom reached 1,477,500 cells/mL, which was more than 6~10 times greater than those at other monitoring sites. The hypothesis of this study is that the timing and location of the algal bloom was highly correlated with the local environmental niche that was controled by physical processes such as hydrodynamic mixing and pollutant transport in the reservoir. A three-dimensional, coupled hydrodynamic and ecological model, ELCOM-CAEDYM, was applied to the period of development and subsequent decline of the bloom. The model was calibrated against observed water temperature profiles and water quality variables for different locations, and applied to reproduce the algal bloom event and justify the limiting factor that controled the Microcystis bloom at R3. The simulation results supported the hypothesis that the phosphorus loading induced from a contaminated tributary during several runoff events are closely related to the rapid growth of Microcystis during the period of bloom. Also the physical environments of the reservoir such as a strong thermal stratification and weak wind velocity conditions provided competitive advantage to Microcystis given its light adaptation capability. The results show how the ELCOM-CAEDYM captures the complex interactions between the hydrodynamic and biogeochemical processes, and the local environmental niche that is preferable for cyanobacterial species growth.

In this paper, we explore market and environmental factors which affecting organization's priority claim application which is more powerful and prompt strategic method to protect technology from competitors under uncertain and volatile environments. This study empirically examines why organizations strategically choose the priority claim application which is more strong tactics to protect technology as the source of sustainable competitive advantage. We suggest that market and environmental factors, such as exogenous shock, volatility, and uncertainty, may also affect strategic decision that organization take patent application with claiming priority. The results of our analysis of priority claim application in the Korean high-tech electronics industry from 1994 to 2008 showed that these three strategic factors affected the technology protection decision and organization's status also moderate theses effects, as predicted in our hypotheses.

The giant information exchange enabled by the Internet of Things paradigm will likely exploit electrical lines as a ready-to-use infrastructure. The advantage of using the pre-installed infrastructure of wiring networks makes power line communication a competitive technology for broad-band communications. Therefore, there has been a growing interest towards the use of existing power line communication channels as an effective means for transmitting high speed data and Internet service. One of the main noise types affecting power line communication systems is the impulsive noise, and the focus of this work is on the impact of this impulsive noise on the performance of OFDM-QPSK systems. For the performance analysis of impulsive noise, data measured in three environments were used. Through the analysis, it is shown that OFDM-QPSK system outperforms QPSK system for most of the impulsive noise cases. Also, RS-coded OFDM-QPSK system can achieve good BER performance under 3 cases impulsive noise environment.

The present study analyzes Hyundai Genesis' introduction in the domestic and the North-American markets in terms of positioning and brand extension strategies in each market. Genesis was positioned to 'A domestic luxury car that looks like a foreign premium brand' in the domestic market and was positioned to 'Quality of luxury car for a price of near-luxury car' in the North-American market. Hyundai brand was extended to Genesis in the North-American Market, but not in the domestic market. The present study examines the backgrounds that resulted in different position concepts in the markets and analyzed the marketing tactics to realize the position concepts. Specifically, we discussed the brand extension strategy that was adopted in the North-American market in terms of its pros and cons. The present study noticed a need for modifying and/or strengthening positioning strategies to face competitive environments and suggests an issue to be discussed with respect to the changes in the positioning strategies.

Authorship is important for research integrity and publication ethics, acting as the basis for credit and academic achievement. Moreover, publication achievements have a significant impact on research grants and academic careers. Inappropriate authorship has been reported for several reasons, including complex interests and competitive environments. One form of this is representative authorship misuse, which includes honorary and ghost authorships. Kin co-authorship, such as parent-children authorship, is another form of inappropriate authorship that has recently emerged as a social problem in Korea. To address these issues, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) has established criteria for authorship. Similarly, many journals use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) and Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) systems to prevent authorship misuse and systematically evaluate author credit and responsibility. Herein, this article reviews authorship and inappropriate authorship, as well as introduces methods to avoid authorship misuse.
