  • Amidst dynamic business environment, creating competitive advantage, source of competitiveness, is a critical issue for international port operations. To overcome limitations of prior studies adopted cross-sectional approach, this study reviews a way to continually sustain and create competitive advantage, based on the case of Busan port in South Korea. Development plans, operations and management practices from2005 to 2014 were investigated and reviewed. Results revealed that enhancement of infrastructure, new engine to sustainable growth, green and safety, and partnership enhancement were a source of creating competitive advantage. The results help theoretical advances on competitiveness and its durability, and provide useful insights for creating competitive advantages and future improvement in international port operations.

  • According to construction of global administration environment, all over the world was ended up in infinite competition period. Because eating out company also competes with another company, it must enjoy competitive power high position to secure high position continuously, classified by formation constituent's individuation and two aspects of organic special quality by the factor. Individuation classified by formation constituent's business ability, personal relations, age factors of Information Technology, and organic special quality classifies by factor of formation culture and result that analyze eating out company's business condition competitive power reinforcement effect factor is same as following. First, was construed by company culture, personal relations, business ability period of ten days with family Restaurant, and Information Technology showed that do not influence. Competitive power reinforcement effect factor with special restaurant was construed by company culture, personal relations, business ability period of ten days, and fast food company culture and Information Technology factor with hotel restaurant company culture by competitive power reinforcement effect factor construe.

Environment of Doing Business in East Asia : South Korean Experience

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to aim to stress the importance of doing business environment in South Korean economy. The theoretical justification is based on neo-institutional theories and new business management including Porter's Model as main justifications of state intervention due to the market failures to promote a competitive environment of doing business. Research design, data and methodology - The methods to be taken is to provide a comparative performance analysis, and offer in terms of doing business and economic freedom sub-index complemented by Korean reforms diagnostics. Results - The main results underlined the key factors explain the success of business environment in South Korea such as: a simplified registration procedures, a target tax incentives, the removal of business barriers, the improvement of legislative and regulatory framework, target reforms, property right and technical norms, good governance and the quality of institution, a role of a well-functioning legal framework, a strong competition framework, and the transparency of regulation, etc. Conclusion - A competitive environment of doing business is based on the target national strategies, appropriate reforms responding to national needs and good governance system.

Investigating Factors Affecting Value Creation and Its Distribution on Company's Performance

  • Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of business processes, quality of human resources and organizational culture and its distribution in creating value to achieve competitive advantage. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: Data collection in this study was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 90 employees of Delivery service companies in Makassar City. Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis was used as data analysis. Result: this study indicates that business processes do not directly affect competitive advantage, but business processes will have an effect if they go through the value creation process as an intervening variable, while the quality of human resources and work environment have a direct effect on competitive advantage and have a direct effect on Value creation. The quality of human resources and organizational culture also have an indirect effect on competitive advantage through the value creation process. This research also indicates that value creation has an effect on competitive advantage. Conclusion: Competitive advantage will be realized if organizational processes run well, company management that able to carry out good organizational processes and able to create a conducive organizational culture, will be able to distribute company resources to create value that leads to achieving competitive advantage for companies in the future.

  • 세계적인 경쟁심화에 따른 기업의 경영환경 변화와 인터넷의 대중화로 표현되는 정보기술의 발전은 기업경영뿐만 아니라 기업내 정보센터의 업무환경에도 많은 변화를 요구하고 있다. 이러한 환경변화로 인하여 기업정보센터는 그 어느 때 보다도 조직내에서 존재가치를 입증해야 하는 어려움에 직면하게 되었다. 이에 따라 본 고에서는 기업정보센터를 둘러싸고 있는 기업의 경쟁환경이 어떤 것인지를 알아보고, 이러한 경쟁환경하에서 효율적인 기업정보센터의 운영방안이 무엇인지를 살펴보았다. 또한 국내외의 기업정보센터 중 기업내에서 그 가시성을 인정받고 활발한 정보활동을 수행하고 있는 정보센터의 사례분석을 실시하였다.

푸드서비스산업에서 고객지향적인 서비스 컨택요소의 탐색적 연구 (Exploratory Study on Customer-Oriented Service Contact Elements in Foodservice Industry)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide preliminary data for competitive dominance in an institutional foodservice environment. Data were collected from 85 experts and practitioners on customer-oriented service contact elements and contact fields in the foodservice industry. PASW Statistics ver.18 and MS Excel were used for data analysis. From the pilot study, 67 service contact-elements were derived. Contribution rate analysis and frequency analysis in each contact field were performed in order to categorize four factors, including environment-oriented contact, product-oriented contact, service-oriented contact, and image-oriented contact fields. Thirty three contact elements were derived, and environment-oriented contact consisted of eight contact-elements (cleanliness of restaurant/kitchen, etc.), product-oriented contact consisted of twelve contact-elements (food taste, etc.), service-oriented contact consisted of seven contact-elements (service quality, etc.), and image-oriented contact consisted of six contact-elements (image/reputation, etc.). The results of study will be useful to develop an effective marketing program for competitive dominance in an competitive foodservice industry environment.

  • The IT services industry is considered as the leading industry of the ubiquitous age that raises a nation's overall productivity and efficiency. Therefore, it is receiving increasing attention as the industry that can bring about economic takeoff and successful overseas market entrance for the next generation. In order to achieve successful development, the industry should be competitive and armed with strategies that well demonstrate the characteristics of IT services. Therefore, it is important to explore the competitive factors of the industry for its qualitative development from the perspectives of IT services industry policies and as well as IT services companies. This study categorized IT services into three types-system integration, IT consulting, and IT outsourcing- and then examined the competitive factors of each service type and their relationships with financial and non-financial performances. In conclusion, the current competitiveness of domestic IT services industry is attributed to institutions environment rather than its competitive advantages in technology, quality, know-how, and highly qualified human resources. In order to facilitate the sound growth of the IT industry and seek reasonable market competition, the environment that puts its priority on the improvement of institutions environment and the ability to carry out a project needs to be established. In all, this study can be utilized as an important knowledge for the establishment of polices to foster IT services industry and of strategies that raise competitiveness to maximize the performances of companies.

The Impacts of Institutional Environment, Social Capital and Strategic Importance on Knowledge Sharing and Performance

  • Employing a sample of 126 suppliers in Korean electronic industry, this research examined the effects of institutional environment, social capital and strategic importance in manufacturer-supplier relationships on knowledge sharing. Building on the relational view and knowledge-based theories, this study proposed that these factors facilitate knowledge sharing in manufacturer-supplier relationships and that knowledge mediates satisfaction between manufacturer-supplier relationships for competitive advantage. Results indicate that institutional environment, social capital and strategic importance in manufacturer-supplier relationships are indeed associated with greater knowledge sharing. Inter-firm satisfaction is, in turn, positively associated with knowledge sharing for competitive advantage through technical support, financial support, competence increasing. Further, results provide evidence that knowledge sharing plays a mediating role between institutional environment, social capital, strategic importance and inter-firm satisfaction.

  • Today's firms exist and run business in an uncertain and rapidly changing environment in terms of industry, market, technology, economic conditions, and culture. To be competitive, at least to survive, firms must cope with and manage uncertainty effectively. In other words, firms should be equipped with powerful weapons to capture competitive advantage over their competitors. There are several ways for a firm to capture competitive edge over its competitors such as cost leadership, quality of the products and services, manpower, higher productivity, and technology. Among these, technology, especially information technology, could be the most effective weapon for competitive advantages since it is possible to monitor competitors' movement as well as to provide appropriate information with both planning and control phases through an information system.   • A numerical model that describes the reductive dechlorination of tetrachloroethene(PCE) to ethene via cis-dichloroethene(CDCE) was developed. The model included two separated dehalogenator groups : one for PCE transformation to cDCE via TCE and the other for cDCE dehalogenation to ethene via VC, competitive inhibition between different chloroethene electron accepters, and competition for H$_2$ between dechlorination and methanogens. Model simulations suggest first, that PCE dechlorinators are better competitive with methanogens than cDCE dechlorinators. Second, not only the initial relative population size of dehalogenators and H$_2$-utilizing methanogens but also electron donor delivery strategies used greatly affects the degree of dehalogenation. As a result, all of factors in the above must be considered in order to achieve economical and successful bioremediation of contaminated soil and groundwater with chlorinated solvents.
