Competency and competency-based education are topics of great interest to educators and administrators at most stages of undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. A competency-based approach in medical setting has been valued as a more effective way to strengthen learners' performance compared to the traditional education program. This article aims to explore theoretical and practical possibilities and limitations of competency-based medical education. We approached the topic in 3 gradual steps: the comprehension of background of competency-based education, the conceptual understanding of competency in professional education, and the exploration of possibilities and limitations of competency-based medical education. The last step of analysis was performed in three dimensions: educational objectives, references to judge performance, and performance evaluation criteria. In conclusion, we suggest 4 factors which need to be considered to implement a competency-based medical education.

Competency means 'the ability to do something', and competency-based education means 'the process of education based on the concept of competency'. Competency-based education is generally implemented in general education. However, competency-based education has not yet been actively conducted in the field of Christian education. In particular, it has not been established academically on what competencies Christian alternative schools provide in common. Most of the previous studies related to competency-based education in Christian education are related to competency-based education conducted by Christian universities. Research related to competency in Christian alternative schools is mainly related to the professionalism of teachers or the ideology of Christian alternative schools. In other words, there are few specific studies on what kind of competency they provide to students attending Christian alternative schools. Therefore, this study aims to understand the reality of competency-based education conducted by Christian alternative schools using Delphi analysis techniques. Through this study, four goals and 20 competency elements of competency education pursued by Christian alternative schools were found. By categorizing the goals and elements of competency education, it can be divided into relationships with God, relationships with oneself, and relationships with others and the world. In conclusion, it was suggested that Christian alternative schools should provide education that pursues the universal purpose of Christian education based on specificity and reflect the goals and elements of competency education in the curriculum.

Recently, the need of the future education in youth and univesity is rapidly increasing according to 4th industrial revolution. However, the maker and design education as a kind of youth and university future education has the following problems: it is implemented as an interesting convergence education including software education, it is managed by integrating youth and university competencies, it is composed in the form of blended class of consilient subject and nonsubject, it requires considering satisfaction in competency measurement and management, it is connected with entering school and getting job. To solve these problems, a case study on competency-based maker and design education using marine robot, which is based on the process-based learing method, integrated competency of youth and university, blended-type curriculum in terms of online and offline, is executed. To verify the competency-based maker and design education, the satisfaction survey in subject and nonsubject is performed. Study results show the example of the marine robot-based maker and design education and the need for additional study.

The purpose of this study is to identify the difference between the current retention level and the required level of engineering students' career competency that they think they need based on their perceptions. Ultimately, the results of this study are used as basic data when designing the major/general education program and the curricular/extra-curricular career program. The task of this study is to identify the difference between the current retention level and the required level of engineering students' career competency. And based on this, it is to confirm the educational needs of engineering students for the career competency. For this purpose, literature research on career competency education in universities was reviewed in the theoretical background. Next, previous studies on career competency and sub-competence derived from career competency-related studies and detailed questions were analyzed. Based on this, an initial evaluation tool for career competency of engineering students was developed. Finally, through expert review, a career competency evaluation tool with a total of 43 items in 10 competency groups was developed. A career competency evaluation questionnaire was conducted for 197 engineering students who participated in the 2022 Engineering Education Festa, and as a result of the IPA analysis, 'global competency' was found to be the competency with the largest difference between importance and execution. Next, 'major job competency' and 'career development competency' appeared in order. Reflecting the results of this study, it is expected that mutually organic design of competency-based liberal arts curriculum and major curriculum that can cultivate global competency, major job competency, and career development capability will be carried out through learning activities and field practice.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop a competency model for the Korean medicine doctors and find application plans for the future education in Korean medicine. Methods: Based on literature review, we drafted a competency model framework for modeling and defined competencies using generic model overlay method. Also we conducted a FGI with 20 extension specialists in Korean medicine to validate competency model. Results: Findings are 5 domains and 15 competencies. 5 domains have optimal patient care, reasonable communication skill, professionalism enhancement, performing social accountability, and efficient clinical management. 3 competencies are included in 5 domains each. With this model, 4 ways of application plans are shown to apply for the future competency-based education in Korean medicine. Conclusion: Developed 2016 competency model for the Korean medicine doctors can be a first huge step to innovate education in Korean medicine toward competency-based educational system.

The purpose of this study is to suggest plans to improve the industrial high school through the inquiry of Competency-Based Education(CBE). The suggestions are as followings: (1) Selection and organization of the educational contents of industrial high school must be based on job analysis. (2) Instructional objectives must be defined as a performance objective and enabling objectives. (3) Instruction must be individualized in method, the instructional contents must be organized in the unit of module. (4) Evaluation system must be not knowledge based but performance-based. (5) Physical Environment of work shop must be organized based on facilities, equipments and machines abstracted by job analysis. (6) Competency-Based Teacher Education(CBTE) program is required to train competent teachers in practice.

Purpose: Competency-based curriculum has attracted many nursing institutions' attention, pursuing the enhancement of competency and the quality of education. The goal of this study was to not merely scrutinize the nomenclature of competency and competency model as a concept of pedagogy as well as nursing science, but also form a well understanding of development process for nursing competency-based curriculum and nursing competency modeling. Methods: A comprehensive review on related literatures was conducted in each section of 1) competency-based curriculum, 2) competency and competency model, and 3) contents of competency. Results: The nomenclature of competency including nursing competencies, competency modeling and competency-based curriculum were clarified and summarized. Through analyzing and reviewing former studies related to competency, desirable nursing competency modeling and nursing competency-based curriculum were proposed and described. Conclusion: Learner-centered curriculum should be established based on nursing education that emphasizes intellectual skills acquisition and the enhancement of future-oriented professionalism. Competency modeling should reflect the fact that teaching-learning strategies should focus on the integration of nursing theories and clinical practices. Nursing competency modeling is essential in order to develop a genuine competency-based curriculum while in-depth practical research should be followed so that nursing theories and clinical practices work together in a coordinated fashion.

This paper introduces the association method for the program outcomes of engineering education accreditation and the competency units of National Competency Standards(NCS). This association method can be used to efficiently develop an engineering curriculum that is based on both of the NCS and the engineering education accreditation. The association method consists of an analysis phase, an association phase and a checking phase. We also deals with the curriculum development procedure that uses the proposed association of program outcomes and competency units. Also, we provide the application of this method to the computer engineering program for NCS-based engineering education accreditation. Thus we can systematically and efficiently develop curriculums for the NCS-based engineering education accreditation by using the proposed method.

The goal of this paper is the presenting method that is based on the NCS-Based Competency Curriculum to use for teaching leadership education in petty officer area. The leadership education under NCS-Based Competency Curriculum is developing the overall usage of individual competency with varied knowledge and experience. The leadership education for potential petty officers is formed with four steps. At the first step, a check of personal competency. For the second step, designing a project format and setting a direction of the leadership curriculum. For the third step, a consolidation of theoretical and background knowledge through the project and presenting a training experience of problem analysis and resolution. For the fourth step, showing a result of the leadership education with another competency check. The leadership education under the NCS-Based Competency Curriculum is an essential way to develop leadership to the students who are participating petty officer education program at the college level. Finally, this research paper shows its research limitation and a way of hereafter research.

This study examined performance-related competencies for vocational training teachers and development process of Competency-Based Curriculum(CBC). Based on literature review of competencies, education and training of vocational training teachers, we developed competency modeling integrating job analysis, Behavioral Event Interview for vocational training teachers and Competency Dictionary and analyzed validity of competency modeling and competency need and proposed education and training program across competencies and training module. Finally we proposed necessary operating and management methods to effectively develop competencies for vocational training teachers using CBC.
