  • In this paper, the general formula of disparity estimation based on Bayesian Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) algorithm is derived. The generalized formula is implemented with the plane configuration model and applied to multiple baselined stereograms. The probabilistic plane configuration model consists of independence and similarity among the neighboring disparities in the configuration. The independence probabilistic model reduces the computation and guarantees the discontinuity at the object boundary region. The similarity model preserves the continuity or the high correlation of disparity distribution. In addition, we propose a hierarchical scheme of disparity compensation in the application to multiple-view stereo images. According to the experiments, the derived formula and the proposed estimation algorithm outperformed other ones. The proposed probabilistic models are reasonable and approximate the pure joint probability distribution very well with decreasing the computations to O(n(D)) from O(n(D)4) of the generalized formula. And, the hierarchical scheme of disparity compensation with multiple-view stereos improves the performance without any additional overhead to the decoder.

  • This paper proposes an effective feature compensation method to improve speech recognition performance in time-varying background noise condition. The proposed method employs principal component analysis to improve the variational model composition method. The proposed method is employed to generate multiple environmental models for the PCGMM-based feature compensation scheme. Experimental results prove that the proposed scheme is more effective at improving speech recognition accuracy in various SNR conditions of background music, compared to the conventional front-end methods. It shows 12.14% of average relative improvement in WER compared to the previous variational model composition method.

  • The government enforced 'Act on the acquisition of land for the public undertakings and compensation' commenced on the 1st of January 2003 to faithfully protect the property right of people and to scheme the effiecient drive of public works by systematizing the procedures and the standards of compensation and reforming irrational systems. The previous act regulated to compensate a rightful person of fishery right, who is in a nearby area of public works enforcement zone for actual loss according to the level of damage. On the contrary, as for the fishery damage happened at the outside of public works enforcement zone, the act regulates to compensate for a loss when it is actullay occurred and affirmed. So, the related act was amended as, so called, Post Factum Compensation. With regard to the Post Factum Compensation regulation for the fishery damage occurred at the outside of this public works enforcement zone, many objections and problems are raised as it is not clearly understood of the nature of the fishery compensation. However, this paper is not intended to mention the right or wrong of the current law, but to discuss the problems or remedies of 'Act on the acquisition of land for the public undertakings and compensation' after examining cases of public works which was enforced for the fishery compensation within the current law.

  • In this paper, the optimal performance of optical second-order polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation has been investigated theoretically in terms of minimization of the root-mean-square (RMS) pulse broadening. The optimal compensation vector in feedforward-type second-order PMD compensation has been derived, and the RMS pulse broadening factor after the optimal second-order PMD compensation has been analytically calculated. The calculated result has been compared with the previously reported simulation result where numerically optimized feedback scheme was adopted. They are in good agreement, which verifies the validity of the derivation. The investigation in this work will form the basis for the implementation of the feed-forward-type second-order PMD compensation.

  • This paper presents a new and simple method for sensorless operation of matrix converter drives using a constant air-gap flux and the imaginary power flowing to the motor. To improve low-speed sensorless performance, the non-linearities of a matrix converter drive such as commutation delays, turn-on and turn-off times of switching devices, and on-state switching device voltage drop are modeled using PQR transformation and compensated using a reference current control scheme. The proposed compensation method is applied for high performance induction motor drives using a 3 kW matrix converter system. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed strategy.

  • In this paper, a novel control scheme compensating source voltage unbalance and harmonic currents for the combined system of series active and shunt passive power filter is proposed, where no low/high-pass filters are used in deriving the reference voltage for compensation. The phase angle and the reference voltages compensating for harmonic current and unbalanced voltage are derived from the positive sequence component of the unbalanced voltage set, which is simply obtained by using digital all-pass filters. In order to remove the phase delay in generating the reference voltage for compensation, the reference of 5th and 7th harmonic components is predicted one-sampling ahead. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified for 3[kVA] proto-type active power filter system.

  • In this paper, a novel neural fuzzy control method is proposed to control nonlinear systems. A standard PD-like fuzzy controller is designed and used as a main controller for the system. Then a neural network controller is added to the reference trajectories to form a neural-fuzzy control structure and used to compensate for nonlinear effects. Two neural-fuzzy control schemes based on two well-known neural network control schemes, the feedback error learning scheme and the reference compensation technique scheme as well as the standard PD-like fuzzy control are studied. Those schemes are tested to control the angle and the position of the inverted pendulum and their performances are compared.

  • Since inertial sensor errors which increase with time are caused by initial orientation error and sensor errors(accelerometer bias and gyro drift bias), the accuracy of these devices, while still improving, is not adequate for many of today's high-precision, long-duration sea, aircraft, and long-range flight missions. This paper presents a navigation error compensation scheme for Strap-Down Inertial Navigation System(SDINS) using star tracker. To be specific, SDINS error model and measurement equation are derived, and Kalman filter is implemented. Simulation results show the boundedness of position and attitude errors.

  • This paper proposes a force reflection control method with a speed saturation compensation scheme for the slave manipulators having a speed saturation due to the high reduction ratio joints. When speed saturation is generated, the proposed force reflection control method not only shows an anti-windup feature in controlling the slave manipulator but also makes the master manipulator move slowly using the force reflection caused by saturation. In this way, the position of the slave manipulator tracks the reference position regardless of speed saturation. The experimental results show that the proposed control method provides excellent performance.

  • A time-delay compensation method for vector control system is proposed that can compensate for voltage and current distortions resulting from a time delay in the overall system due to the low pass filter, hysteresis control inverter, microprocessor program computation time, and so on. The proposed scheme estimates the time delay using the difference between the Q-axis stator current command and the time-delayed actual Q-axis stator current in a synchronous reference frame, then compensates the time delay in the voltage and current using the angular displacement of a DQ transformation. Accordingly, the proposed scheme can accurately compensate for the time delay related to the overall system, thereby significantly improving the performance of the vector control system, as verified by simulation and experiment.
