The Methods of Rail Joint Detection and Gap Signal Compensation for Levitation Control of Urban Maglev (도시형 자기부상열차 부상제어를 위한 궤도 이음매 검출 및 공극 신호의 보상 방법)

  • The present urban maglev which has been developed in Korea is controlled by 4-edge control method over each bogie. The control output which is derived from two gap sensors and one vertical acceleration sensor controls magnet to maintain a nominal gap. But, the gap signal acts as a big disturbance in rail joint though two gap sensors are used and finally result in unstable response and poor ride comfort. This paper treats of a method to compensate the gap signal in rail joint for the levitation control of urban maglev. The physically abnormal change of gap is detected when one gap sensor passes a rail joint, the disturbance of gap in rail joint is estimated. Finally the disturbance in gap signal is eliminated by processing the information of vehicle speed and estimated disturbance in when the other gap sensor passes a rail joint.

  • One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in metal cutting is the machining accuracy of machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric errors, thermally-induced errors, and the deterioration of the machine tools. Geometric and thermal errors of machine tools should be measured and compensated to manufacture high quality products. In metal cutting, the machining accuracy is more affected by thermal errors than by geometric errors. In this study, the compensation device and temperature-based algorithm have been implemented on the machining center in order to compensate thermal error of machine tools under the real-time. The thermal errors are predicted using the neural network and multi-regression modeling methods. In order to compensate thermal characteristics under several operating conditions, experiments performed with five gap sensors and manufactured compensation device on the horizontal machining center.

The Differential Benefits of Reputed Generalists CEOs over Tenure

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study was to explores how CEO general human capital, one of the most critical issues in recent research, affects compensation schemes. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected the CEOs of S&P500 companies from 2001 to 2009 and contains 4,155 CEO-firm-year observations and 704 different CEOs. Findings - First, only contingent bonus is affected by general human capital and reputation. Second, the career concerns of CEOs are relevant, especially when explaining CEO tenure. Third, we offer an alternative view of what determines the level of cash compensation schemes and the factors that affect the running of a firm. Fourth, we also suggest that the increase in general human capital can be explained by the increase in its relative importance in managing a modern firm. Overall, the results of this study do not only contribute to academics but also important to boards and shareholders. Research implications or Originality - This study intends to fill the gap in the extant literature by examining the relationship between general human capital and compensation schemes.First, we add to the compensation literature by arguing that a cash compensation scheme is efficient for generalist CEOs. We break down CEO cash compensation schemes into fixed and contingent bonus compensation and investigate whether general human capital differentially affects CEO cash compensation schemes, and thus, the sensitivity to unequal pay for human capital. Second, we contribute to the reputation literature by arguing that CEO perceived reputation also affects CEO compensation schemes.

  • Cell gap은 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)의 중요한 파라미터들 중의 하나이다. cell gap이 LCD의 광학적인 성능에 영향을 주기 때문에 정확한 cell gap 측정방법은 제조공정을 향상시키는데 중요하다 특히 최근 고속 영상 디스플레이를 제공할 수 있는 장점 때문에 낮은 cell gap의 LCD가 요구되고 있는 시장 추세에 따라 낮은 cell gap을 측정할 수 있는 기술이 요구되고 있다.   • This paper illustrates the feasibility and the effectiveness of the disturbance feedforward compensation control proposed in the previous paper. The compensator is designed experimentally by means of the Multiple Filtered-x Least Mean Square algorithm. A 2-DOF active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion is built and the compensation control is applied. The experimental results demonstrate that the compensation control reduces the air-gap responses within 10$%$ of those by the feedback control alone without increasing the control inputs.

  • The C-ITS (Cooperative-intelligent Transport System) is a driver assistance system that prevents car accidents and enhances traffic conditions, via sharing traffic information between vehicles and roadway infrastructures. A CLAS (changing lane assistance system) for unprotected left-turn, is a C-ITS that assists a driver with safely changing lanes. This system addresses a driver's critical gap, that enables the system to express a driver's uncertainty. A driver's critical gap is a time that can be used in a threshold, to change a lane or not. Unfortunately, a driver's critical gap is difficult to use in a CLAS directly. This paper addresses a driver's critical gap, and how it can be applied in a CLAS for an unprotected left-turn.

  • In this paper, we proposes a study on air gap control for magnetic levitation of transverse flux permanent magnet electromagnets. In general, mechanical systems have a high failure rate of bearings. Bearings in particular are problematic because they have high surface wear rate and degradations. To solve this problem, replacing the bearing with a magnetic levitation electromagnet system can provide lightweight and efficiency improvements. However, precise air gap control is essential to control the magnetic levitation electromagnet system. Therefore, in this paper, we identify the instable cause of gap control through a mathematical modeling and verify through experiment a control algorithm that can use compensation.

  • A compensation method of the motor parameters using zero sequence third harmonic voltage is presented for the speed sensorless vector control of the induction motor considering saturation of the flux. Generally, the air-gap flux of the saturated induction motor contains the space harmonic components rotating with the synchronous frequency of the motor. Because the EMF of the saturated induction motor contains the zero sequence harmonic voltages at the neutral point of the motor, those harmonic voltages can be used as a saturation index. In this work, the rotor flux observer is firstly designed for the speed sensorless vector control of induction motor. And a novel measurement method of the space harmonic voltage and a compensation method of th LPF(Low Pass Filter) are proposed. For compensating the non-linear variations of the magnetizing inductance depending on the saturation level of the motor, the dominant third harmonic voltage of the motor is used as a saturation function of the air-gap flux. And the variation of the stator resistance owing to the motor temperature can also be measured with the phase angle between the impressed voltage vector and the zero sequence voltage. The validity of the proposed parameter compensation scheme in the speed sensorless vector control using rotor flux observer is verified by the result of the simulations and the experiments.

A Simple Sensorless Scheme for Induction Motor Drives Fed by a Matrix Converter Using Constant Air-Gap Flux and PQR Transformation

  • This paper presents a new and simple method for sensorless operation of matrix converter drives using a constant air-gap flux and the imaginary power flowing to the motor. To improve low-speed sensorless performance, the non-linearities of a matrix converter drive such as commutation delays, turn-on and turn-off times of switching devices, and on-state switching device voltage drop are modeled using PQR transformation and compensated using a reference current control scheme. The proposed compensation method is applied for high performance induction motor drives using a 3 kW matrix converter system. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed strategy.

  • In this paper, we propose a speed sensorless control of the saturated induction motor using the zero sequence third harmonic voltages and a compensation method of the stator resistance variations. The air-gap flux of the saturated induction motor contains the space harmonic components rorating synchronous frequency. As a function of the air-gap flux saturation, the dominant third harmonic voltage is used to compensate the non-linear variations of the mutual inductance depending on the saturation level of the motor. and also the stator resistance variations can be measured with the phase angle between the voltage vector and the zero sequencial voltages. The validity of the proposed compensation scheme in the speed sensorless control using rotor flux observer is verified by simulations.
