This study was designed to investigate quality characteristics of Korean cabbage kimchi added with germinated brown rice extracts (GBRC; (A) and CBREP; (B)) and Korean cabbage kimchi on the market mom the result pH and total acidity were shown to be similar in all samples. In the case of Korean cabbage kimchi added with (A) and (B), content of total sugar and reducing sugar were higher than those of Korean cabbage kimchi on the market. Color values (L, b) were shown to be similar in all samples in which a value was lower than that of Korean cabbage kimchi on the market. The amounts of total amino acid and free amino acid of Korean cabbage kimchi added (A) and (B) were higher than those of Korean cabbage kimchi on the market. But the amount of $\gammma$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in main functional components of germinated brown rice was shown to be low. Total phenol content and other antioxidant and anticoagulant activities of Korean cabbage kimchi fortified with (A) and (B) were higher than those of Korean cabbage kimchi on the market. In conclusion, Korean cabbage kimchi added with (A) and (B) were shown to be similar in fermentation tendency compared to Korean cabbage kimchi on the market and, the functional properties could be enhanced by the addition of (A) and (B).
Global warming has increased interest in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. And a policy has effort to reduce energy consumption as a greenhouse gas reduction plan. In Korea, 25% of total energy is consumed in the building sector. In order to reduce energy consumption of buildings, it is possible to expand the utilization of wood as a structural material or thermal insulation materials with low thermal conductivity. It is also reported that when used as an interior finishing material, the energy consumption of the building is reduced by up to 7% by insulation performance. In this study, the heat transfer characteristics and the heat capacity were compared according to the three type of finishing materials(cement, paulownia coreana, medium density fiberboard) normally used as indoor finish materials. Through this study, most of the heat transfer volumes are transferred in the form of radiant heat, and the result was derived from the highest amount of energy and heat transfer in the use of paulownia coreana. When indoor finishing materials are used as wood, it is deemed that energy efficiency inside the building will be improved.
This paper reviews the characteristics of dilemma zone by analysing the influence exerted by actual location of intersection traffic signal on behaviour of drivers approaching signalized intersection in urban area. The analysis of approach speed was based upon a 'before and after' comparison, measured at three sites where the locations of traffic signals were changed. The study demonstrated that, when traffic signal changed to yellow, the scales of dilemma zone were narrowed in case of stopping cars by moving up the starting point of the dilemma zone due to lowered spot speed. On the other hand, in case of passing cars, the end points of dilemma zone were moved further out to the rear due to increased spot speed. Therefore, changing traffic signal locations could make an impact to increase intersection safety through reducing the scales of dilemma zone. This study also found that, in cases involving vehicles with similar approach speeds, spot speeds could be differentiated following the change of signal locations due to the fact that there can be greater differences in both braking point and deceleration rate. Thus, when considering the appropriate measuring of dilemma zone, 'spot speed' rather than 'approach speed' appeared to be more appropriate criterion.

Although Doenjang is a representative traditional fermented food in Korea, made mainly from soybeans, it has been classified into a food group identified as having high sodium in the National Health and Nutrition Examination. It is necessary to develop a low sodium Doenjang to prevent the excessive sodium intake which may cause various diseases. However, the development of Doenjang with low sodium, without significant changes on quality, is an ongoing challenge. Therefore, the experiment was designed to reduce the salt content of the soaking water to 12.5-45%. The pH, saltiness. moisture, sodium, color, amino-type nitrogen, free amino acids and constituent amino acids composition of Doenjang were investigated to determine the effect of this salt reduction on the sensory quality of Doenjang. The reduction of sodium did not affect the pH, moisture and saltiness, and this changed maintained the same range as the control. The sodium content was reduced proportionally, and the amino acid nitrogen level was 500 mg%. Therefore, this study considered that a reduction of 25% of salt in the soaking water does not affect the quality of the Doenjang while reducing the sodium content of the final Doenjang.

The objective of this study is to compare the physicochemical properties and release characteristics of red ginseng (A) and tissue cultured mountain ginseng (B) extruded tissue cultured mountain ginsengs at barrel temperatures 110 (C) and $120^{\circ}C$ (D) to produce tissue cultured mountain ginseng-like comercial red ginseng by extrusion process. Extrusion process variables, water content and screw speed were fixed at 25% and 200 rpm, respectively. In the results, reducing and total sugar content were found to be relatively higher in A. The acidic polysaccharides content of B was the lowest among the ginseng samples. Acidic polysaccharide was increased 3 times by extrusion process. A and B were three times higher at maximum than C and D in polyphenolic compound. Polyphenolic compound content was relatively low by extrusion of ginsengs. Amino acid contents of B, C and D were $35{\sim}42\;{\mu}g/mL$; in contrast, A contained $25\;{\mu}g/mL$. The crude saponin content of C and D were higher than A and B.
As hydrological models have been progressively developed, they are recognized as appropriate tools to manage water resources. Especially, the need to evaluate the effects of landuse and climate change on hydrological phenomena has been increased, which requires powerful validation methods for the hydrological models to be employed. As measured streamflow data at many locations may not be available, or include significant errors in application of hydrological models, streamflow data simulated by models only might be used to conduct hydrological analysis. In many cases, reducing errors in model simulations requires a powerful model validation method. In this research, we demonstrated a validation methodology of SWAT model using observed flow in two basins with different physical characteristics. First, we selected two basins, Gap-cheon basin and Yongdam basin located in the Guem River Basin, showing different hydrological characteristics. Next, the methodology developed to estimate parameter values for the Gap-cheon basin was applied for estimating those for the Yongdam basin without calibration a priori, and sought for validation of the SWAT. Application result with SWAT for Yongdam basin showed $R_{eff}$ ranging from 0.49 to 0.85, and $R^{2}$ from 0.49 to 0.84. As well, comparison of predicted flow and measured flow in each subbasin showed reasonable agreement. Furthermore, the model reproduced the whole trends of measured total flow and low flow, though peak flows were rather underestimated. The results of this study suggest that SWAT can be applied for predicting effects of future climate and landuse changes on flow variability in river basins. However, additional studies are recommended to further verify the validity of the mixed method in other river basins.
Purpose: Adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) technique is a reconstruction method of CT image using statistical noise modeling which is known to reduce image noise and to preserve image quality despite reducing radiation dose. The aim of this study is to evaluate images using ASIR on bone SPECT/CT which is primarily performed in our hospital. Materials and Methods: We compared the images of applied ASIR (ASIR level: 20-80%) and none ASIR by changing the mA based on 120 kVp, 100 mA using Discovery NM/CT 670 (GE, U.S.A). First, we evaluated attenuation correction in SPECT image by changing the ASIR level using Anthropomorphic phantom. Second, we compared the contrast to noise ratio (CNR), image noise and spatial resolution in CT image using ACR phantom. Third, after selecting the ASIR level applicable patient using lower torso phantom, we examined 2 patients who followed up bone SPECT/CT and we performed blind test. Results: The degree of attenuation correction in SPECT image showed no significant difference between applied ASIR and none ASIR (P>0.05). When applied ASIR, the noise of CT image were reduced at least 17 up to 52% by changing the mA. The CNR of image with ASIR was maintained more than 0.8 at 40 mA (ASIR 60%) while those without ASIR showed 0.42 at standard 40 mA. In comparison of the high contrast object, we distinguished 12 line pairs/cm at 40 mA regardless of appling ASIR. Comparison of the patients image applied ASIR level 60% (40 mA) which found out by spine image of lower torso phantom showed no signigicant difference between applied ASIR and none ASIR in blind test. The CTDIvol and DLP for applied ASIR 60% showed decreased by 60%, 60% on average than using standard mA. Conclusion: The study show that the radiation dose in SPECT/CT using ASIR can be reduced despite degradation of SPECT and CT images. In addition, higher ASIR level could be possibly applied characteristics of SPECT/CT that region of interest is limited to bone.
Physicochemical characteristics and antioxidative activity were measured to investigate the possibility for functional characteristics of Pleurotus eryngii and its by-products. By-products of Pleurotus eryngii were classified with mushroom, fungal body and fermented mushroom by-product. Moisture was the highest in fermented mushroom by-product and crude protein was 1.72%, in mushroom. Crude fiber content was less than 10% except the fungal body by-product. Mineral content appeared to be the highest in the fermented mushrooom with a value of 3,696.1 mg/100 g, and potassium was a predominant mineral in Pleurotus eryngii as well as its by-products. Amino acid content was the highest in mushroom with a level of 989.59 mg/100 g. DPPH radical scavenging ability of the fermented mushroom was the highest, and its methanol extract and water extract exhibited $64.07{\pm}0.23%$ and $76.27{\pm}1.46%$ of scavenging activity at a concentration of 10 mg/ml. Reducing power was significantly higher in the fermented mushroom in comparison with those of the mushroom, mushroom by-product, and fungal body by-product. The reducing power of the water extract of fermented mushroom was the highest with a value of $2.22{\pm}0.03$. SOD-like activities for the individual samples except the fungal body by-product were higher than 50% at a concentration of 10 mg/ml. The hydroxyl radical scavenging abilities of the individual samples except the fungal body by-product were over 50%. Nitrite scavenging effects were better in pH 2.5 than in pH 4.0. While the nitrite scavenging effects of methanol extracts were $42.93{\pm}1.71{\sim}72.97{\pm}2.18%$, those of the water extracts were $57.66{\pm}1.80{\sim}81.07{\pm}0.81%$. Antioxidative activity of the fermented mushroom appeared to be the highest among the mushroom by-products. Taken together, these results provide an insight into utilization of the mushroom by-products as materials for functional foods and animal feed.

This study compared the physicochemical characteristics, proximate composition, taste compounds, and antioxidant properties of Sikhye prepared with mulberry fruit concentrate. Analysis of the physicochemical characteristics of Sikhye added with mulberry indicated that sugar content and titratable acidity increased significantly with increasing mulberry concentration, whereas pH decreased significantly. The whiteness index (L) was 36.77~51.40, which significantly decreased with increasing mulberry concentrate. The redness index (a) was -0.90~1.97 and highest in Sikhye sample containing 4% mulberry concentrate. The yellow index (b) was 0.03~1.90 and highest in Sikhye sample containing 1% mulberry concentrate. Analysis of the antioxidant properties of Sikhye added with mulberry indicated that total polyphenol content and flavonoid content increased significantly as the amount of mulberry concentrate increased above 1%. Total anthocyanin color also increased significantly with increasing mulberry concentrate. The mulberry Sikhye sample containing 8% extract showed the strongest antioxidant properties based on DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and FRAP assay. Evaluation of the sensory properties of Sikhye added with mulberry revealed that the most preferred flavor, color, and taste were observed in Sikhye samples containing 2%, 4%, and 8% extract, respectively. However, the highest overall preference was observed in Sikhye sample containing 2% extract, indicating that 2% concentration was most suitable for Sikhye and that flavor and aftertaste were more critical than taste. Analysis of the storage characteristics of Sikhye added with mulberry indicated that total bacteria count increased across all samples with increased storage period. However, total bacteria count in the added mulberry concentration group decreased in comparison to the control group as the amount of added mulberry increased.
The purpose of this study was to contribute to family nursing in the areas of reducing stress and improving coping for parents of mentally retarded children. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires during a period of 2 months between November 1994 and January 1995 in the Kyoung-in area. The subjects consist of 176 parents (88 mothers and 88 fathers) of mentally retarded children attending schools for the handicapped. The levels of general stress and of parental role stress were measured with the General stress scale and the Parental role stress scale, respectively. The coping scale developed by Folkman & LaZarus was adopted to measure the level of coping, and the patterns of adaptation scale developed by Damrosch & Perry was adopted to measure the patterns of adaptation. The data were analyzed by a SAS program using Fisher's exact test, paired t-test, and oneway ANOVA. The results are as follows ; 1. The level of general stress was significantly higher in mothers than in fathers. Mothers experienced a significantly greater level of parental role stress than fathers did. No significant difference in the level of coping was observed between mothers and fathers. There were differences in maternal and paternal patterns of adaptation. 2. The adaptation pattern of fathers was different according to their level of general stress, parental role stress and coping. The adaptation pattern of mothers was not different according to their level of general stress and parental role stress, but was according to their level of coping. 3. General stress experienced by fathers was different according to education, health status and support from their spouses. Satisfaction with family life, satisfaction with spouse and the support from spouse influenced coping used by fathers. Their level of parental role stress was not associated with any of their general characteristics. 4. In mothers, the level of general stress was different according to their health status, the level of parental role stress was related to satisfaction with family life and satisfaction with spouse. Their level of coping was associated with the sup port from spouse. The above findings indicate that mothers did not have more coping strategies than fathers did, despite the results which showed that mothers experienced greater stress than fathers did. Especially, the adaptation pattern of mothers was different according to their level of coping. Hence, nursing interventions directed at managing stress and improving coping should be used with mothers who use adaptation pattern 1. In particular, fathers should actively participate in parenting, and support their spouses.
