Clinical Meaning of Hallucinatory Experience among PTSD Patients (외상 후 스트레스 장애 환자에서 발생한 환각 경험의 임상적 의미)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate clinical meaning of hallucination among patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Methods : PTSD patients with hallucination (n=50) were selected and matched with the PTSD patients without hallucination (n=50) by age and sex. The patients were evaluated in two different aspects, pathologic aspects which can develop after traumatic event, and positive/adaptive aspects which are concerned in positive psychology. In addition to these, temperament and character features between two groups were also evaluated using the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). Results : Except for the total score of DES (Dissociative Experience Scale) and the score of re-experience subscale of CAPS (Clinician Administered PTSD Scale), clinical characteristics did not show any significant difference between the two groups. Among the comparison of seven higher dimensions in TCI profiles, only Self-transcendence showed significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion : The two groups did not show significant differences in pathologic aspects except for factors that may contribute to development of hallucination. Furthermore, authors could not find any differences in positive/adaptive aspects.

The Development and the Effectiveness of a Integrative Group Counseling Program for Depression, Suicide Ideation, and Stress in High School Students (청소년의 우울·자살생각·스트레스 감소를 위한 통합적 집단상담 프로그램의 개발과 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an Integrative Group Counseling Program to reduce depression, suicide ideation, and stress of high school students, and to examine the effectiveness of such a program. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the program developed, an experimental group which was exposed to the program and a control group without exposure to the program were compared. The program was administered over eight weekly sessions, each session lasting ninety minutes. The subjects in this study consisted of twenty students. An experimental group and a control group were organized with ten students in each. For data processing, SPSS 16.0 was used to analyse statistical results. The Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale, the Suicidal Ideation Scale, and the Stress Scale were used in a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test. The findings of this study were as follows : The treatment group exhibited a significant statistically decreasing degree of depression, suicide ideation, and stress levels in comparison to the control group. The results of the study indicated the effectiveness of this newly developed Integrative Group Counseling Program on reducing depression, suicide ideation, and stress levels.

The Effects of Science Instruction using Integrative Educational Model(IEM) in Elementary Science Gifted Classes on Academic Achievement and Scientific Attitude (Clark의 통합교육모형(IEM)을 적용한 과학 수업이 초등과학영재반의 학업 성취도와 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of science instruction using integrative educational model on academic achievement and scientific attitude in gifted classes on elementary science. Integrative educational model (hereafter referred as IEM) was developed by synthesizing the findings from brain research, the new physics, general systems theory, and educational psychology. 77 6th graders of B Metropolitan City's Elementary Gifted Education Center were took part in this study. The experimental group, consisting of 39 students, was applied to the instruction using IEM, while the comparison group, 38 students, was applied to instructor- led instruction. The results of this study were as follows: First, the science instruction using IEM had a positive effect on improving achievement in gifted classes on elementary science. Second, the science instruction using IEM had an influence on inquisitiveness and openness of the lower domains of learners' scientific attitude. Third, the science instruction using IEM had a positive response to learners' interest, comprehensibility about lesson contents, and ability to concentrate on classes.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the manifestation of children's color education in the software in order to evaluate conditions of color education as well as improvement of its direction. The procedure and method of the research is begun from evaluating the characteristic of children's developmental stage, content analysis of the nation's organization of color education and analysis and evaluation of education program through the investigation on 8 different softwares in reward for the tournament. The results are as followings; First, the research shows that the elementary school stage of color education is inadequate in comparison to children's cognitive developmental stage. Second, most of the color theory was composed of characteristic of a color, stimulation of emotion and effects of psychology. Considering of children's cognitive development, it is necessary to make up for the basic of color theory and the system of color. Third, Softwares of color education program for 1 st. and 2nd grade in elementary school was so rare that it should be properly developed and made for systematic contents. Fourth, color education for the 5th and 6th grade children remained in understanding basic characteristics of the color which is below the par and brings the necessity for more professional and structural contents.

  • Data analysts sometimes test the equality of two normal population means by the inspection of the overlapping of two confidence intervals. This method seems simple to use; however, it is a common statistical misconception to suppose that two normal means are not significantly different because of no overlapping. This article will present transforming the confidence interval of the mean difference to individual confidence intervals that are visualized to inspect overlapping. It will also be shown that this technique can be extended when comparing the k normal population means with equal variances.

  • Dimensions of learning, based on the vast studies on teaming psychology and teaming processes, have been played an important role as one of the frameworks of curriculum and teaming strategies. Dimensions of Learning consist of 5 Dimensions, each of 'Attitudes and Perceptions', 'Acquire and Integrate Knowledge', 'Extend and Refine Knowledge', 'Use Knowledge Meaningfully', 'Habits of Mind'. And each dimension has $3\~8$ lower categories in itself, The elementary 5th grade science lesson emphasizing upon Dimensions of Learning was developed in this study. The lessons dealt with almost every lower categories of Dimensions of learning. We analysed students' scientific attitude and scientific achievement quantitatively after the lesson emphasized upon Dimensions of Learning in comparison with typical lesson laying stress on teachers' guides. The results are as follows; Students' scientific attitude was significantly changed after the lesson emphasized upon Dimensions of Learning. The willingness, positiveness, straightforwardness, and openness of lower categories of students' scientific attitude were more significantly changed especially. But students' scientific achievement was not significantly changed after the lesson emphasized upon Dimensions of Learning.

Analysis of Psychological, Physiological(Heart Rate Variability) Response & Influence Consequent on Green Light Brightness (녹색광 밝기에 따른 심리·생리(심박변이) 반응 및 영향 분석)

  • This study compared the effect of green light consequent on maximum brightness 85 lx and intial brightness 15 lx, and its accompanying psychological, physiological response. 1) As a result of psychology(general stress evaluation, Symptom Checklist-90-Revision) evaluation, all stress evaluation items mostly showed a decrease, and they are comparatively positively evaluated in minimum brightness 15 lx comparing to maximum brightness 85 lx. 2) Physiological (Heart Rate Variability) evaluation result was included in stable range in all cardiovascular system variables after light stimulus in time of comparison with the standard range; in addition, the Heart Rate Variability evaluation result was found to be stable in all cardiovascular system variables except Low Frequency in minimum brightness 15 lx comparing to maximum brightness 85 lx. 3) Green light was found not to appear as a stimulating factor in the human body in time of space projection, being found to be effective in stability of mind and body, and reduction in stress. Thus, it was found that green light functioned as an emotional, relaxing tranquilizer by working on the sympathetic nervous system.

Effects of Hotel Experiences on Service Quality, Satisfaction and Consumer-Brand Relationship

  • Purpose: The study tried to make a comparison between local and global brand hotels with respect to the relationships among customer experiences, service quality, customer satisfaction and consumer-brand relationship. This study provided strategic implications according to its results. Research design, data and methodology: To this end, this study collected data from 300 participants who have stayed at local and global brand hotels in Seoul. SAS 9.4 was used for data analysis. Results: The results showed that experiential modules ('sense' module and 'feel-think-act') affected service quality (human service, physical service) in local brand hotels. But 'feel-think-act', one of experiential modules, only affected service quality in global brand hotels. Also, physical service only had strong effects on customer satisfaction with both local and global brand hotels. Finally, customer satisfaction was influenced by consumer-brand relationships for two hotel groups. But there were no statistically significant differences in all estimations between local and global brand hotels. Conclusions: In conclusion, the study provided some strategic implications that experiential marketing in hotel industry needs be practiced maintain the competitive advantage and sustain branding power and will result in stronger consumer-brand relationships in local and global brand hotels.

  • In cut throat competition, organizations all over the world try to utilize the immense opportunities the Internet has to offer in almost all of their operations. Today, Social networking sites (SNSs) provide utilities designed to help companies to recruit right personnel. Considering the implication of social media for recruitment at infancy stage in Pakistan and lack of studies related to it, this study aims to investigate the role of different SNSs qualities (Easily navigate, Secure process, Eminence Proficiency, Candidate's Attraction and Network Expedition) in effective E-recruitment (EER). Data were collected through structured questionnaire from employees and managers of major telecom companies of Pakistan. Finally, the result of 355 returned and valid questionnaire with 55% response rate show that the relationship between SNSs qualities and EER is significant. Moreover, results also prove that EER is better than the tradition recruitment and a SNSs comparison show that Facebook is more effective than LinkedIn for EER. The results of this study will help Pakistani companies to develop a successful e-HRM and EER strategy in the current scenario.

Anterior Cingulate Cortex and Amygdala Dysfunction Among Patients with Alcohol Dependency During Exposure to Negative Emotional Stimuli

  • This study aimed to identify specific psychological and brain activation responses relating to the processing of negative emotions in patients with alcohol dependency. The authors hypothesized that patients with alcohol dependency would demonstrate the abnormal functioning of brain regions involved in negative emotions. Eleven male patients diagnosed with alcohol dependence in an inpatient alcohol treatment facility and 13 social drinkers with similar demographics were scanned using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as they viewed film clips that evoked negative emotions. During exposure to negative emotional stimuli, the control group evinced significantly greater activity in the right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in comparison to patients with alcohol dependency. Correlation analyses demonstrated a negative association in the relationship between beta values from the right ACC and amygdala in participants classified in the control group. No statistically significant relationship was observed for blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) changes between the two regions in the patient group during the elicitation of negative emotions. On the other hand, patients exhibited a greater activation of the amygdala as negative emotions were induced. These results suggest that alcoholism presents pathophysiology of brain activation that is distinct from the responses of healthy individuals functioning as controls.
