  • It is difficult and important for virtual studio systems and media-art products to be designed effective interactions between a performance person, who appears in the studio, and virtual studio equipments, and, an appreciation person and artistic products. The difficulties originate with originate with no even-grained component and no framework of interaction design work. In this article, a layered authoring model is proposed in order to facilitate system designers and artists to construct the system more easily and flexibly using fine-grained media components. And some experimental interactive virtual environments based on the model are shown.

  • An object tracking system, which uses an omni-directional camera, is proposed in this work. First, we construct a mapping table, which describes the relationships between image coordinates and omni-directional angles Then, we develop a surveillance system to detect unexpected objects automatically from omni-directional images. Finally, we generate perspective views for detected objects by using the mapping table. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides efficient performances.

  • This paper describes a CMOS outphasing transmitter using two wideband phase modulators. The proposed architecture can simplify the overall outphasing transmitter architecture using two-point phase modulation in phase-locked loop, which eliminates the necessity digital-to-analog converters, filters, and mixers. This architecture is verified with a WCDMA signal at 1.65 GHz. The prototype is fabricated in standard 130 nm CMOS technology. The measurement results satisfied the spectrum mask and 4.9% EVM performance.

  • With the advance of radar technologies, the availability of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images increases. To improve application of SAR images, a management system for SAR images is proposed in this paper. The system provides trainable land cover classification module and display of SAR images on the map. Users of the system can create their own classifier with their data, and obtain the classified results of newly captured SAR images by applying the classifier to the images. The classifier is based on convolutional neural network structure. Since there are differences among SAR images depending on capturing method and devices, a fixed classifier cannot cover all types of SAR land cover classification problems. Thus, it is adopted to create each user's classifier. In our experiments, it is shown that the module works well with two different SAR datasets. With this system, SAR data and land cover classification results are managed and easily displayed.

  • There is a synchronization function which deals with only single media of text in the OSI Session Layer. So new synchronization schem and synchronization protocol are required for multimedia communications which include audio, video and graphic as well as text information. In this paper, conceptional Multmedia Synchronization Layer(MS layer) environment is composed and its service primitives and protocols based on 'multi-channel, base media scheme' are designed and proposed for multimedia synchronization services. This MS layer Manager (MSM) establishes the MS layer connection to the peer MS layer and manages each media channel which is created in MS layer media by media. The MSM also finds the synch-position through the media frame number by utilizing it like the time stamp to provide inter-media synchronization services as well as intra-media synchronization services.

  • We introduce the outline of our research plans concerning mental image expression for the purpose of communication. We are studying the Computer Organized Media Integration & Communication System (COMICS)as a flexible media handling environment. The system can expand the potential of mental image expression by freely handling and integrating various kinds of media. An experimental COMICS is also introduced.

  • In this paper, we apply a chord progression learning model to a rule-based generation of a four-part chorus. The proposed system is given a 32-note melody line and completes the four-part chorus based on the rule of harmonics, predicting the chord progression with the CRBM model. The data for the training model was collected from various harmony textbooks, and chord progressions were extracted with key-independent features so as to utilize the given data effectively. It was shown that the output piece obtained with the proposed learning model had a more natural progression than the piece that used only the rule-based approach.

  • Random linear network coding (RLNC) is widely employed to enhance the reliability of wireless multicast. In RLNC encoding/decoding, Galois Filed (GF) arithmetic is typically used since all the operations can be performed with symbols of finite bits. Considering the architecture of commercial computers, the complexity of arithmetic operations is constant regardless of the dimension of GF m, if m is smaller than 32 and pre-calculated tables are used for multiplication/division. Based on this, we show that the complexity of RLNC inversely proportional to m. Considering additional overheads, i.e., the increase of header length and memory usage, we determine the practical value of m. We implement RLNC in a commercial computer and evaluate the codec throughput with respect to the type of the tables for multiplication/division and the number of original packets to encode with each other.

  • In this paper, we propose an i-vector based language recognition system to identify the spoken language of the speaker, which uses multiple discriminative deep neural network (DNN) models analogous to the multi-class support vector machine (SVM) classification system. The proposed model was trained and tested using the i-vectors included in the NIST 2015 i-vector Machine Learning Challenge database, and shown to outperform the conventional language recognition methods such as cosine distance, SVM and softmax NN classifier in open-set experiments.
