  • In this paper, we studied the effect of noise caused by ambient light on a reflective PPG measurement device using infrared light. Noise caused by ambient light was examined by dividing it into general situations and special situations. In the general situation, noise due to changes in time and ambient light sources was randomly observed, and in the special situation, a halogen lamp was used to observe the effect of noise variations. In the experiment, PPG signals were measured and data acquired in real-time depending on each situation, and the measured data was analyzed in the time domain and frequency domain. First, through a general situation experiments, it was visually observed that noise increases with the brightness of ambient light, and through frequency analysis, it was observed that the noise sources were white noise, power line noise, and internal noise of the circuit. Futhermore, using a halogen lamp, we experimented with the change in noise depending on the change in distance from the ambient light and calculated the SNR. As a result of the experiment, an SNR of 3.2 dB was shown at a distance of 50 cm with an irradiance of 278.3 W/m2. It was observed that normal measurement was difficult at SNRs below that, and an irradiance of 27.7 W/m2 was obtained. It showed a value of 18.2 dB at a distance of 2 m, and it was observed that normal PPG measurement was possible through a filter at values above that.

  • In this paper, We propose the visible light communication(VLC) link based on white light emitting diode (LED) and Photo detector(PD). The proposed architecture is demonstrated experimentally and its performance is verified through the experimental results of quality-factor(Q-factor) and eye pattern of 10Mb/s PRBS signal. The ambient light effect from a typical type fluorescent lamp source was also analyzed. when the distance between the LED and the PD is about 1m, error free wireless transmission of the LED was achieved up to 10Mb/s data rate. Under the condition with ambient light, low BER, data transmission of the VLC link is achieved up to 5Mb/s data rate at 1m. Also, when the PD is placed away from the center, low BER data transmission of the VLC link is achieved up to 1Mb/s at 10cm and 10Mb/s at 5cm.

  • This paper designs and implements a smart garden system using probabilistic filter algorithm using SLAM that can be used in apartment or veranda. To do this, we used Arduino and environtal sensors, which are open hardware controllers, and designed to control and observe automatic water supply, lighting, and growth monitoring with three wireless systems (Bluetooth, Ethernet, WiFi). This system has been developed to make it possible to use it in an indoor space such as an apartment, rather than a large-scale cultivation system such as a conventional plant factory which has already been widely used. The developed system collects environmental data by using soil sensor, illuminance sensor, humidity sensor and temperature sensor as well as control through smartphone app, analyzes the collected data, and controls water pump, LED lamp, air ventilation fan and so on. As a wireless remote control method, we implemented Bluetooth, Ethernet and WiFi. Finally, it is designed for users to enable remote control and monitoring when the user is not in the house.

  • Thin film of $TiO_2$ was obtained by the sol-gel dip method on the brosilicate glass substrate. It was found that the film was about $1.5{\mu}m$ thick as obtained by 4 successive coatings and annealed at varied temperatures ranged from $300^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. The substrate used was having the surface area of $100mm^2$. Increasing the annealing temperature caused to change in mineralogical phase of titanium oxide i.e., amorphous, crystalline antase to rutile phases. The particle size of the titanium oxide film were ranged from $0.1{\sim}0.54{\mu}m$ estimated by the SEM analysis. The material showed an absorbance maximum at the wavelength 390nm obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometer. These results therefore, indicated that the $TiO_2$ film obtained relatively at low annealing temperature consisted predominantly with anatase phase; possessed higher photocatalytic behavior i.e., 2.4 times higher than that of only UV lamp irradiation.

  • In this paper, we reduced the optical noise interference using polarizers in a visible light communication system. In a transmitter, two light-emitting diodes(LEDs) are modulated synchronously by the original and the reversed signals of the transmitted data, and the two LED lights are radiated through orthogonal polarizers. In a receiver, two optical signals are detected through orthogonal polarizers and differentially amplified to remove the optical noise. In an environment that noise light from a fluorescent lamp is much stronger than the signal, the receiver with orthogonal polarizers removed the 120 Hz noise, and synchronous light transmission of the original and the reversed signals using two LEDs reduced the illumination flickering to about one-eighth that using one LED.

  • Photoreduction of $CO_2$ into hydrocarbon fuels on the surface of photocatalyst is one of the breakthroughs in the field of photocatalysis. At present various approaches have been investigated with the aim of increasing the $CO_2$ conversion efficiency. The reactor for photoconversion of $CO_2$ plays a vital role in experimental setup. In this work an attempt was made to testify a newly designed the photoreactor for conversion of $CO_2$ into useful products. The photoreactor was specifically designed for simple operation bearing features of temperature and pressure control. The reactor has been tested successively with the standard titania, Degussa P25 yielding methane with moderate production rate of 30.8 $ppm{\cdot}g^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ under UV lamp with 365 nm wavelength. The methane yield obtained is comparable to the values reported in literature. Thus we anticipate that this experimental setup equipped with newly designed photoreactor can yield competitive amounts of fuels from $CO_2$ photoredcution via 365 nm UV light illumination on various photocatalysts.
