  • An optical rotary encoder is easy to implement for automatic control applications. In particular, the output of the encoder has a digital form pulse, which is also easy to be connected to a popular digital controller. By using the encoder, there are various angular velocity detecting methods, M-, T-, and M/T-method. Each of them has a property of its own. They have common limitation that the angular velocity detection period is strongly subject to the destination velocity magnitude in case of ultimate low range. They have ultimate long detection period or cannot even detect angular velocity at near zero velocity. This paper proposes a dual encoder system with two encoders of normal resolution. The dual encoder system is able to keep detection period moderately at near zero velocity and even detects zero velocity within nominal period. It is useful for detecting velocity in case of changing rotational direction at which there occurs zero velocity. In this paper, various experimental results are shown for the dual encoder system validity.

Clinical study on the estimation of blood flow velocity using doppler ultrasound of the cerebral artery in stroke patients (도플러 초음파를 이용한 중풍환자(中風患者)의 뇌혈관(腦血管) 혈류측정(血流測定)에 관한 임상적(臨床的) 연구(硏究) (경동맥(頸動脈), 추골동맥(椎骨動脈) 및 기저동맥(基底動脈)을 중심으로))

  • Background and Purpose: To evaluate the blood flow velocity using doppler ultrasound of the carotid artery, vertebral artery, and basilar artery in stroke patients Material and Methods: To evaluate the blood flow, I measured the peak systolic velocity and mean velocity of the common carotid artery(CCA), internal carotid artery(ICA), external carotid artery (ECA). vertebral artery(VA), and basilar artery(BA) in 44 stroke patients and 15 healthy adults. To investigate the difference between ischemic stroke patients and normal healthy adults, I selected 44 ischemic stroke patients diagnosed by brain CT and brain MRI, and 15 healthy adults who did not have any symptoms of stroke, hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes melitus. Results: Peak velocity in normal adults was 50.6${\pm}$1.6cm/sec in the CCA, 67.2${\pm}$1.7cm/sec in the ICA, 62.5${\pm}$2.4cm/see in the ECA, 45.5${\pm}$1.9cm/sec VA. and 50.5${\pm}$3.5cm/sec in the BA. Mean velocity in normal adults was 26.9${\pm}$1.1cm/sec in the CCA, 43.7${\pm}$1.4cm/sec in the ICA, 26.7${\pm}$1.3cm/sec in the ECA. 31.6${\pm}$1.9cm/sec in the VA and 33.0${\pm}$2.6cm/sec in the BA. In this study, there was a significant increase in the velocity of ICA, ECA, and VA of ischemic stroke patients in comparison with normal healthy adults. And the blood flow velocity of this study in the CCA and ECA was different from other reported foreign values and the other known values in my country. Conclusion: There was a significant difference in the blood flow velocity between ischemic stroke patients and normal healthy adults. And the blood flow velocity of this study was different from other reported foreign values and the other known values in my country. Therefore, it needs more detailed studies about old aged Korean and ischemic stroke patients than previous studies.

A method of minimum-time trajectory planning ensuring collision-free motion for two robot arms

  • A minimum-time trajectory planning for two robot arms with designated paths and coordination is proposed. The problem considered in this paper is a subproblem of hierarchically decomposed trajectory planning approach for multiple robots : i) path planning, ii) coordination planning, iii) velocity planning. In coordination planning stage, coordination space, a specific form of configuration space, is constructed to determine collision region and collision-free region, and a collision-free coordination curve (CFCC) passing collision-free region is selected. In velocity planning stage, normal dynamic equations of the robots, described by joint angles, velocities and accelerations, are converted into simpler forms which are described by traveling distance along collision-free coordination curve. By utilizing maximum allowable torques and joint velocity limits, admissible range of velocity and acceleration along CFCC is derived, and a minimum-time velocity planning is calculated in phase plane. Also the planning algorithm itself is converted to simple numerical iterative calculation form based on the concept of neural optimization network, which gives a feasible approximate solution to this planning problem. To show the usefulness of proposed method, an example of trajectory planning for 2 SCARA type robots in common workspace is illustrated.

Estimation of wind power generation of micro wind turbine on the roof of high rise buildings in urban area (도심 고층건물 지붕에서의 소형 풍력발전기 발전량 예측)

  • Potential yield of micro wind turbine on the roof of urban high rise buildings is estimated. Urban wind profile is modeled as logarithmic profile above the mean building height with roughness length 0.8, displacement 7.5 m. Mean wind velocity from the meteorological agency data at the hight of 50m is used. Wind velocity changes are simulated on the rectangular roof of 26, 45, 53 degree pitch and the circular roof by computational fluid dynamics and RNG k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence models. Wind velocity increased approximately by a factor of the order of 270 % on the 26 degree pitched roof. In the 100 m and 200 m high buildings, wind enhancement is greater at the front side than at the center of the building. In the building arrangement model wind velocity changes abruptly and it becomes wind gusts. When commercial wind turbines are installed on the building roof, average power and annual power generation enhanced by 3~4 times than normal wind velocity at 50m and 6 kw wind turbine can generate 1053 kwh per month on the 26 degree pitched roof at 50m height and sufficiently supply electrical power with 15 household for common electrical use and food waste disposer. However, power output will vary significantly by the wind conditions in the order of $\pm$ 20 %.

The Effects of 1, 4-Dihydropyridine Calcium Antagonists on the Normal and Ca-dependent, Slow Channel Mediated Action Potentials in the Guinea Pig's Papillary Muscle (1, 4-Dihydropyridine 칼슘길항제가 유두근의 정상활동전압 및 Ca-dependent, Slow Channel Mediated Action Potential에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of 1, 4-dihydropyridine compounds, such as nifedipine, nisoldipine, nitrendipine, and nimodipine which were calcium antagonists on the normal and Ca-dependent, slow channel mediated action potentials in the guinea pig's papillary muscle were investigated. The glass microelectrode was impaled into a papillary muscle cell for measurements of potential changes with the simultaneous tracing of isometric contraction. The concentration of Ca antagonists were 1 mg/l (nifedipine and nisoldipine), 2 mg/l (nitrendipine and nimodipine), which showed the maximal inhibition of isometric contraction (above 90%) and simultaneous effects on the normal action potentials and only the halves of those concentrations were sufficient to observe the effects on the calcium action potentials. The data for analysis were only chosen when the microelectrode was maintained in a cell throughout the experiments. 1, 4-Dihydropyridine compounds decreased the action potential duration but did not affect the resting membrane potential, overshoot, and upstroke velocity of the normal action potentials with the decrease in the isometric contraction. And with the decrease in the area and amplitude of isometric contraction, the area, amplitude, upstroke velocity and duration of Ca action potential was decreased. But the differences in the effects of the Ca antagonists were not observed. Therefore it is inferred that the changes in normal and Ca action potential induced by the 1, 4-dihydropyridine compounds with a common chemical structure would be caused by the slow inward Ca-current, not by a fast Na-current.

ROTATION AND SURFACE ABUNDANCE PECULIARITIES IN A-TYPE STARS

  • In an attempt of clarifying the connection between the photospheric abundance anomalies and the stellar rotation as well as of exploring the nature of "normal A" stars, the abundances of seven elements (C, O, Si, Ca, Ti, Fe, and Ba) and the projected rotational velocity for 46 A-type field stars were determined by applying the spectrum-fitting method to the high-dispersion spectral data obtained with BOES at BOAO. We found that the peculiarities(underabundances of C, O, and Ca; an overabundance of Ba) seen in slow rotators efficiently decrease with an increase of rotation, which almost disappear at $v_esin\;i{\gtrsim}100km\;s^{-1}$. This further suggests that stars with sufficiently large rotational velocity may retain the original composition at the surface without being altered. Considering the subsolar tendency(by several tenths dex below) exhibited by the elemental abundances of such rapidly-rotating (supposedly normal) A stars, we suspect that the gas metallicity may have decreased since our Sun was born, contrary to the common picture of galactic chemical evolution.

3-D Seismic Profiling (3차원 탄성파탐사)

  • 'Kite' is a newly developed single-channel seismic imaging system capable of producing high resolution three dimensional images of subbottom geology in one traverse of a survey region. The system consists of a horizontally towed hydrophone array and active source. The hydrophone array is towed axis perpendicular to ship direction and the airgun source at the end of the hydrophone array is excited at timed intervals during the progression. The construction of the three dimensional subbottom image was made simply by using conventional multichannel seismic reflection data processing techniques. Common source shot (CSS) gathers of the hydrophone traces are evaluated using Dix's equation for average interval velocity of each subbottom layer. From the interval velocity profile and the normal consolidation stress condition, values of shear modulus, porosity, and shear velocity are deduced from the chosen values of physical constants. The system has been successfully tested at several locations on the North Atlantic continental shelf.

  • The goal of automatic velocity analysis is to extract accurate velocity from voluminous seismic data with efficiency. In this study, we developed an efficient automatic velocity analysis algorithm by using bootstrapped differential semblance (BDS) and Monte Carlo inversion. To estimate more accurate results from automatic velocity analysis, the algorithm we have developed uses BDS, which provides a higher velocity resolution than conventional semblance, as a coherency estimator. In addition, our proposed automatic velocity analysis module is performed with a conditional initial velocity determination step that leads to enhanced efficiency in running time of the module. A new optional root mean square (RMS) velocity constraint, which prevents picking false peaks, is used. The developed automatic velocity analysis module was tested on a synthetic dataset and a marine field dataset from the East Sea, Korea. The stacked sections made using velocity results from our algorithm showed coherent events and improved the quality of the normal moveout-correction result. Moreover, since our algorithm finds interval velocity ($\nu_{int}$) first with interval velocity constraints and then calculates a RMS velocity function from the interval velocity, we can estimate geologically reasonable interval velocities. Boundaries of interval velocities also match well with reflection events in the common midpoint stacked sections.

Comparison of Correlation Coefficients and Intraclass Correlation Coefficients Between Two-way FSI Flow Velocity of Simulated Abdominal Aorta and Human 4D Flow MRI Flow Velocity (시뮬레이션 복부 대동맥의 양방향 FSI 유속과 인체 4D flow MRI 유속의 상관계수, 급내상관계수 비교)

  • In order to predict and prevent the disease of the abdominal aorta, which is the largest artery in the human body and the most common aneurysm, the normal arterial blood flow operation should be considered. To this end, we are trying to solve problems that may arise in the future by executing FSI based on the data obtained from 4D flow MRI. However, to match the similarity between the 4D flow MRI flow and the FSI flow, correlation was used in previous papers, but the correlation did not show the degree of agreement. Therefore, in this paper, we analyzed the correlation between the 4D flow MRI flow velocity of the human abdominal aorta and the two-way FSI flow velocity in which the three physical properties used for the aortic FSI were added to the CT abdominal aorta 3D model and the interclass correlation coefficient. As a result, the physical property M2 showed the highest similarity in correlation and intraclass correlation coefficient, and this property is intended to be helpful in the future study of the abdominal aortic two-way FSI flow rate.

An early diagnostic method for diabetic neuropathy using $TcpO_2$ ($TcpO_2$를 이용한 신경병성 당뇨환자 조기진단)

  • Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common diabetic complications. In clinical practices, nerve conduction velocity (NCV) has been used as a standard method for diagnosing diabetic neuropathy. However, it applies maximum of 100mA electric stimulus to nerves causing stress and pain to patients. In this study. as a non-invasive method, $TcpO_2$ was utilized to investigate the difference and relationship between $TcpO_2$ and $SpO_2$ of normal and diabetic neuropathy subjects. In addition, a new method of diagnosing diabetic neuropathy using $TcpO_2$ is suggested. 50 normal subjects and 50 diabetic patients with neuropathy diagnosed by NCV participated in this study. Parameters used in this study were $TcpO_2,\;TcpCo_2$, and $SpO_2$. As a result of the $TcpO_2$ measurements, statistical significances were found from $TcpO_2$ of hands and feet from normal and patients group (p<0.01). $SpO_2$ measured from index finger of normal and patient groups showed no statistical significance (p>0.05). On the other hand, $SpO_2$ measured from great toes of normal and patient group showed statistical significance (p<0.01). Correlation coefficient between $SpO_2$ of finger and $TcpO_2$ of hand was 0.400 (p<0.01) and $SpO_2$ of toe and $TcpO_2$ of foot was 0.471 (p<0.01). Both correlation values were statistically significant. Sensitivities and specificities of the $TcpO_2$ method were found to be 66 % and 92 %, respectively. If suggested $TcpO_2$ method is used periodically. prevention and early diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy is possible.
