The purpose of this study was to clarify the space use pattern and the daily living activities of the elderly with dementia in the common space (living room) of nursing home. The subjects were 2 units(living room) of the nursing home. For this, researcher visited from June 20 to July 2 and collected data by observations of behavior of the elderly with dementia in common space(living room) and interviews with staff for the information about basic characteristics of the elderly with dementia and administration and operation of the facilities. The data were analyzed using the frequency and percentage. The results revealed as follows: first, the daily living activities of the elderly with dementia in common space tended to focus on self-concentration type and physical environment-interest type. Second, physical environmental -interest type. Second, physical environmental characteristics of common space affected space usage pattern of the elderly with dementia. And it was perceived like as living oriented space, social interaction space, facility space, staff oriented space. Conclusively it was suggested to plan dining space as semi-private space, day corner as semi-public space.
The aim of this paper is to find out different preference of common spaces and shared activities in senior cohousing community between regions in Korea: Seoul and other cities. Social survey was conducted nationwide and the respondents were 50s only, since they are the generation who will face to elderly housing subject within 10 years in turbulent Korean society. Collected data, about 1000, were analyzed by SPSS program using frequency, percentage, and Chi-square test. In summary, respondents mostly would like to move to senior cohousing on circumstance when they remain alone without big difference between regions. Loneliness and housekeeping were considered as the most difficult issues for the elderly to manage by themselves. Among common spaces, exercise room was the most preferred space to meeting room and kitchen. Exercise room was more preferred in Seoul than in other cities, on the contrary meeting room was evidently less preferred in other cities than in Seoul. Regarding shared activities, resident meeting, gardening, and common meal were revealed as less preferred activities than hobby exercise and tea meeting. As a conclusion, I would like to propose that a big common living room is better to be designed for meeting room cum dining and gathering room with flexibility in order to give residents chances to know each other more often. And since common space and shared activity show different preferences by regions, those are to be designed and planned reflecting region's different circumstance.
The purpose of this study is to consider the community design applications in the senior collective housing in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It was performed by two programs, application program and space design program. The former is focused on the participation of residents to the planing and design process, sharing, community activity, social interaction, and management by residents. The latter is focused on the common space(room) design. It was also performed by literature review, observation, and interview. The findings for the community design as an application program in SCH are almost the same with those in CH. But, the level of common meal and common laundry in SCH is lower than that of CH. And space design program is focused on the location and scale of common space(room) which is related to the number of users. As a result, the positive possibilities of SCH as a new residential type for the self-reliant seniors can be confirmed. The difference of community design application between CH and SCH is caused by various factors such as senior's health conditions, economic factors, and Japanese life style.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the preference of spatial elements for common space planning in senior congregate housing. For the study, 500 potential consumer's residing in Seoul was surveyed using the questionnaire in the social survey methodology. As for the common spaces, gardens, treatment, and exercise rooms were preferred. A combination of both separate and group arrangement of the buildings was preferred, indicating that people wanted separation of the common space and the individual living units. Second, people preferred sharing parts of the common space with their neighbors and as is the traditional custom, preferred to take off their shoes at the entrance to individual units. Third, for the furniture and facilities, they wanted the manager room in the lobby, the small meeting rooms in the public dining room, a fitness center in the activity room, the rack or alcove to store items in front of an individuals unit in the hallway, a chair to sit down in the elevator, and the chair to rest on the stairway landing. Fourth, in terms of priority for planning the senior citizens' community housing, safety, familiarity like a regular home, reduced isolation and loneliness, sense of belonging, economic factors, aesthetic appreciation, daily life supplement, variety, and self-identity were answered in that order.

This study aims to investigate the changes in area ratios by space through floor plans of national leasing houses constructed by the LH in Jangseong-gun, particularly focusing on the floor plans of public leasing housing complexes built during the 1970s-80s and those during the 2010s. The results are as follows: First, according to the composition ratio of floor plans by period, the type of Bedroom> Livingroom> Common Area> Kitchen+Dining> Multi-purpose room> Bathroom> or the type of Bedroom> Livingroom> Kitchen/Dining> Common Area> Bathroom> Multi-purpose room were found to be high during the 1970s. Whereas, the type of Common Area>Living room(Kitchen/Dining included)>Bedroom>Bathroom>Front Entrance was found to be high during the 2010. It can be concluded that the ratio of Bedroom and Living room was found to be high during the 1970s, but after 2010s, the spacial composition ratio of Common Space, Living room, and Bedroom is getting higher in the order. Second, in terms of the composition ratio of floor plans by the area of unit household, among the floor plan of C-1, B-2, B-3, C-2 which were used since 2010s, the spatial ratio of Bedroom was maintained in the range of 20%; while during the 1970s, the Bedroom space of A-1(46%), A-2(46%), and A-3(41%) was found to be higher than 40%. It can be concluded that the size of bedroom space has doubled over time. In terms of the changes in the spatial ratio of Living room, A-1(15%), A-2(22%), and A-3(23%) were found during the 1970s. Compared to the recent floor plans of C-1(28%), B-2(25%), B-3(33%), and C-2(34%) which are applied in Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do province, no big changes have been found, particularly in the small floor plans (20% range).
This study attempts to fix an appropriate quantity of space evaluation, focusing on important furniture room visual environment elements. The major results of the study can be summarized as follows; 1. The degree of satisfaction in the living room is affected by an evaluational factor among factors of space evaluation. 2. In the space estimation for the furniture, the wall furniture is important in the living room because the arragement and occupying proportion of the wall furniture varies widely. 3. In the living room of the APT siza for the common people an appropriate quantity of furniture is classified into 3 types of the occuppying proportion. As the floor occupancy proportion supporting furniture is 13~19%, wall furniture is 10~16% and total furniture which combined both the supporting furniture and the wall furniture is 23~34%. Second, the proportion occupying the wall is 6~9% for the supporing furniture, 9~20% for the wall furniture, and 21~31% for the total furniture. Finaly the proportion occupying the space is 6~9% for the supporting furniture, 9~20% for the wall furniture, and 21~31% for the total furniture. The purpose of this research is to identify user needs for community space design, especially shared space. and compare them according to social class. Since the shared space concept is new, it will be difficult for residents to familiarize themselves with the new idea. This study used a Small Croup Workshop Panel Method instead of the conventional survey method for this reason The subjects were 6 Panel groups of S people per each group. Bach of the panels included 3consecutive workshops. The results can be summarised as follows. All the residents wanted various kinds of shared spaces for everyday living and leisure activity While there were generally great similarity regardless of resident's sub characteristics, some founed distintively dissimilar. The residents of 20s pyung apartment wanted day-care center, multi Purpose room for meeting and family events, library, study room, sports facilities, and cultural center in order. The shared spaces that residents of 30s pyung apartment wanted were library. study room. common dining, sports facilities. and cultural center in order. The residents of 50s pyung apartment wanted library, study room. multi purpose room, common storage, sports facilities. and cultural center in order. These findings imply some diverse plans instead of uniform ones are to be deliberately considered, This results can be usefully applied to develop new collective housing for different social class residents.
The purpose of this study was to the characteristics of the interior space composition for luxurious apartments and the trend of interior design. Surveying visits were made to 30 model houses for which individual apartments of 8 million Won or more per pyeong (about 3.30 square meters) were on sale from December 1999 through November 2000 in Seoul and suburb area, pundang. The major finding were summarized as follows; (1) The characteristics of the planes indicated that the living-room separation type accounted for the majority, which was not generally different from common apartments. The master zone divided several room. The main room which conventionally played the roles of the family gathering space and the second room shared by family members, was designed exclusively for husband and wife. Distinctively separated from the other spaces, it was to be used for personalized space, together with bathroom for the couple, dressing room, or study. Attempts were made for the high-class apartments to get away from the common uniformed apartments, such as the yard-type balcony or the second entrance in consideration of the moving path. (2) The characteristics of the interior designs showed that the detailed attention was paid to every composing element for the emphasis of the high quality image. The factors determining the quality were finishing materials, kitchen furniture, hygienic ceramics, electrical appliances water supply equipment, or functional storage closet.
For guaranteeing for security of nuclear power plant, ergonomic factors have been applied to design of main control room, core area for management and control of nuclear power plant, but design elements for performance of operators have been ignored. As the behaviors of operators are important for security of nuclear power plant, space design which makes them pleasant psychologically and makes them maintain attention on security equipments ceaselessly is required. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze space characteristics of main control rooms according to regulations of nuclear power plant and general guidelines of space design, and to offer basic data for designing of main control room which makes operators pleasant psychologically and physically. At first, theoretical issues related with design of main control room are reviewed and several premises of space are developed by abstracting design elements from common space and regulations of nuclear power plant and, then integrating each design elements interactively. In short, the improvement of system environment based on human-machine interface space has brought about perceptual, cognitive, and spatial changes and has realized next generation of main control rooms. And, differences and similarities between ordinary space and main control room, which ergonomic sizes and regulations are applied and is VDT environment based on LDP, are discussed in relation to 13 design elements and 17 space premise.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the space composition of fireplace and common features of both Prairie and Usonian House found within Wingspread House. This house is the last and largest Prairie house and zoned house built in a Usonian period. However, this house is not an independent work, but rather Wright's evolutionary experiments of fireplace from his early works and his pursuit of Usonian ideal. This paper can be summarized as follows: 1) Living room has been transformed to allow spatial continuity towards exterior view and access and between neighboring rooms by removing doors and inglenook. At the Wingspread house Wright has introduced a freestanding fireplace in a living room with higher and prominent roof structure, therefore the space became a focal point as well as the central space of the entire house. 2) Wingspread and Coonley house have gallery space in common, but they have different settings in the living room composition. Also the living room and gallery space of Wingspread and Usonian houses have prospect and refuge principle by expansion and compression. 3) Wingspread house is a successful combination of Prairie and Usonian style to meet client's requirements in space composition and Wright's technology and economical experiments. This study is intended to reevaluate the significance of this house bridging his two great residential periods.
