A sine with dwell test is well known as a test scenario for evaluation of performance of electronic stability control(ESC) on passenger vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles. However, when it comes to ESC for medium commercial vehicles, the test scenario has not been established yet. In this paper, the sine with dwell test was modified considering characteristics of medium commercial vehicles. The three main modifications of the original test scenario are the steering angle level, steering frequency, and loading condition of the vehicle. These modifications are derived from simulation study for different medium commercial vehicles. From simulation study, it was shown that the ESC system for medium commercial vehicle is objectively evaluated by the proposed test scenario. A clear improvement on vehicle stability was seen in the results when ESC system was used.

This study reviews the rear or tag axle steering system's concepts and technology applied to commercial vehicles. Most commercial vehicles are large in size with more than two axles. Maneuvering them around tight corners, narrow roads, and spaces is a difficult job if only the front axle is steerable. Furthermore, wear and tear in tires will increase as turn angle and number of axles are increased. This problem can be solved using rear axle steering technology that is being used in commercial vehicles nowadays. Rear axle steering system technology uses a cylinder mounted on one of rear axles called a steering cylinder. Cylinder control is the primary objective of the real axle steering system. There are two types of such steering mechanisms. One uses master and slave cylinder concept while the other concept is relatively new. It goes by the name of smart axle, self-steered axle, or smart steering axle driven independently from the front wheel steering. All these different types of steering mechanisms are discussed in this study with detailed description, advantages, disadvantages, and safety considerations.

The proportion of commercial vehicles currently used by the private sector among the vehicles operated by the military is very high at 58% and plans to increase further in the future. As the proportion of commercial vehicles in the military has increased, it is also an important issue to determine whether to disuse of commercial vehicles. At present, the decision of disuse of commercial vehicles is subjectively judged by vehicle technical inspector using design life and vehicle usage information. However, the difference according to the military operation environment is not reflected and objective judgment criteria are not presented. The purpose of this study is to develop a model to determine the disuse status of commercial vehicles in consideration of military operating environment. The data used in the study were 1,746 commercial vehicles of three types: cars, vans and trucks. Using the information of the operating area, climate characteristic, vehicle condition the decision model of disuse status was constructed using the classification machine learning technique. The proposed decision model of disuse status has an average accuracy of about 97% and can be used in the field. Based on the results of the study, the policy suggestions were proposed in the short and long term to improve the performance of decision model of disuse status of commercial vehicles in the future and to establish a new data construction method within the logistics information system.

Automobiles are largely divided into passenger cars with less than five passengers and commercial vehicles such as construction machines, trucks, mixers, special lorries, and large buses. Automobile maintenance companies are also divided into passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Because commercial vehicles are the livelihood vehicles of individual carriers engaged in cargo transportation, passenger transportation, and construction, fast and accurate maintenance is important. Access to the expressway is also important because the car is large and uses highways. In addition, the time required for troubleshooting is long, so sufficient space must be secured for parking the vehicle, and ease of entry and exit of the vehicle in the maintenance shop should be fully considered. For this reason, commercial vehicle maintenance companies have higher initial investment costs than car maintenance companies, and it is difficult to supply and maintain maintenance personnel. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully examine and analyze various related factors for successful commercial vehicle maintenance company selection. However, most existing commercial vehicle maintenance companies often choose their location based on the empirical judgment of the founder, the customs and the case, without a clear analysis. In this study, we show how to derive the location selection factors to be considered when establishing professional maintenance company for commercial vehicles and to select the optimal location by using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method.

Although the development of electric vehicles or electric commercial vehicles is underway in Korea, most companies are seeking to enter the global market because it is difficult to expand their business only in the domestic market. In addition, it is recognized that the country has difficulties in responding to regulations or related procedures when entering overseas markets, and due to such difficulties, it is not possible to gain opportunities to enter the market and gain the technical advantage. Therefore, it is necessary to support individual companies to overcome the difficulties of promoting and exporting products by establishing a pre-cycle support environment for technology development so that development parts can be installed in small electric commercial vehicles. Therefore, this study tried to understand the necessity and factors of small electric commercial vehicles for major ASEAN countries, and as a result, most of them raised the urgency and necessity of joint research. In addition, human resource development, government support, and technical support were suggested as the necessary factors for the study.

It is common for commercial vehicles to make the top part according to the use after making the bear chassis, and to connect various devices with the bear chassis. Various brackets used in bear chassis for the development of all automobiles, including commercial vehicles, play a role of connecting the components required for driving and operating the car to the car body. In commercial vehicles, components necessary for operation are installed in the bear chassis; that is, the bear chassis of commercial vehicles is a space where the devices required for driving and operating the vehicle are installed. The devices required for the configuration of the vehicle are drive, brake, exhaust and steering, etc. These devices are basically connected to the body, the front axis, or the rear axis. The part interlinking the apparatuses required for the vehicle drive to the car body or axis is bracket. In this study, we analyzed the boundary conditions to evaluate the stability of the three brackets that connect the components of the car to the front axis of the new type of 30-seater bus in the development process. In order to analyze the boundary conditions, the boundary conditions according to the driving condition of the vehicle were classified. For stress analysis to evaluate the stability of brackets according to the driving state of the vehicle, it is reasonable to give the bracket a boundary condition of harsh conditions.

This paper presents a standardization method for designing wire harness systems, based on the control types and functional blocks, for use in commercial vehicles. With a rapid increase in the installation of systems with added new features, it is very important to develop a reliable wire harness design in a short time by standardizing wire harness designs and reusing the standard design. Because the function of a system, particularly, for commercial vehicles, varies significantly on the basis of the requirements, regulations, and options, it is not effective to establish one standard design for one system. In addition, a system with the same function may differ in terms of the input conditions and output loads on the basis of the installed vehicle types, and it is not practical to standardize a harness design targeting an entire system. In this study, the wire harness designs of a system were classified into six categories based on the control types of the system: switch driven, control of a switch, control of an electronic control unit, unit driven, control of a unit, and connector operation. Then, a wire harness design of each system was divided into three blocks according to their functions: the control, drive, and monitoring blocks. The standard wire harness designs were made for each functional block of each control type. The advantage of this proposed method is that an effective and practical design can be obtained, which covers the diversities in the same system for different grades of commercial vehicles with a reduction in the number of wire harness supplements.

Most commercial vehicles have adopted the hydraulic power steering system. To reduce fuel consumption and to improve steering controllability, a hybrid electric power steering system is being developed for commercial vehicles. In this study, the HILS (Hardware In the Loop Simulation) system equipped with a commercial vehicle hybrid electric power steering system was developed and the vehicle dynamic performance of a truck with the steering system was evaluated. The hybrid electric power steering system is composed of the EHPS motor pump, column mounted EPS system, and ball nut steering gear box for heavy commercial vehicles. The accuracy of vehicle models equipped with the HILS system was verified with comparisons between the simulation results and field test results. The road reaction forces of the steering system were generated from the vehicle model and verified using field test results. Step steering tests using the verified HILS system were carried out and the performance of a newly developed commercial vehicle hybrid electric power steering system was evaluated.
Anti-lock Braking System(ABS) is a device which prevents the wheels form locked up under emergency braking of a vehicle. So it helps the vehicle to maintain the steerability and shortens the braking distance by maintaining optimal frictional force during braking since the tire road slip is controlled in acceptable range. Recently, ABS is accepted as a standard equipment in vehicles, especially in commercial vehicles(bus and trucks). Commercial vehicles don´t use hydraulic lines but use pneumatic lines for braking system mostly. In this paper, ECU(Electronic Control Unit) for the anti-lock braking system of a commercial vehicle which is equipped with a full-air brake system and its control algorithms are presented. In this algorithm wheel speed acceleration flags and wheel slip flags are defined ...

For commercial vehicles with a manual transmission, the pneumatic and fluid pressure servo-device is widely used for transmitting large torque. However, the pneumatic and fluid pressure servo-device usually results in non-linear variation of foot-efforts, also such characteristics tend to increase physical fatigue of drivers who drive commercial vehicles for a long time. Thus, vehicle manufacturers consider the hysteresis loops in the Clutch Actuation System (CAS) design when a new vehicle model is being developed. In this study, we numerically simulate the hysteresis loops for predictable CAS design, and the experimental results confirm the simulation results.
