In vehicle door system, weatherstrip seals protect passengers form noise, dust, rain and wind out of the vehicle. The higher efficient a weatherstrip is, the more durable it is in contact between the door and body frame. In this study, nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis is performed to obtain cauchy-stresses, displacements and reaction forces of the weatherstrip. Mechanical properties of the weatherstrip is obtained by uniaxial tension test. The MARC which is a commercial software for the nonlinear analysis of a flexible FE model is used. Twenty-one cases of the FE model are developed by using Ogden-foam formulation. In the results of nonlinear FE analysis, the most valuable deformation of the weatherstrip occurred when displacement control value reaches 7.2mm. Severe deformation is observed as the displacement control value become more increased. When the weatherstrip is designed, it would be considered that the displacement value of the weatherstrip has to be less than 7.2mm.

In the manufacturing process of the bus treated as the commercial vehicle, after making the bare chassis which is the basic frame of the vehicle body, the part in which passengers ride is connected. In addition, the necessary parts such as the engine and transmission required for the operation of the bus are connected to the bare chassis. The element connecting the parts such as the boarding part of the passengers, the engine, the suspension and the transmission is the bracket. The device required for driving and operating the vehicle is mounted on the bare chassis using the bracket, which should ensure stability during bus operation. In this study, we were performed stress analysis to evaluate the stability of three types of brackets connecting the bare chassis of a new type of 30-seater bus in the development process and components required for driving and operation. The stress analysis should be preceded by the analysis of boundary conditions considering the loads applied to the brackets according to the material of the bracket to be analyzed and the driving type of the bus. The finite element model for structural analysis of brackets according to the driving type of the bus was used by Altair's Hypermesh 2017, and the solver used for structural analysis was Altair's Optistruct. The stress analysis was performed to present the safe and vulnerable parts of the three brackets.

Track maintenance works based on track geometry recordings are essential to enhance the safety and comfort of railway transportation. Usually, the track irregularity has been measured by a special inspection trains which all were imported from abroad. Because the inspection train speed is limited under 160 km/h, it takes a long time to inspect railways and there is difficulty in daytime operation. To solve this problem, we started to develop a track geometry measuring system (TGMS) with measurement speed up to 300 km/h which can be installed in commercial vehicles such as HEMU-430X. In this paper, we introduce a newly developed inertial TGMS and propose two inertial navigation system (INS) algorithms (method A, B) for measuring track geometry. In order to investigate advantage and disadvantage of each algorithm, we performed vibration test of the TGMS, which was simulated by 6-axis shaking table. Through the vibration test, we analyzed the influence of vehicle vibration on the TGMS which will be installed on bogie frame. To the vibration test, two methods satisfied the required accuracy of track geometry measurement under the level of the actual vehicle vibration of HEMU-430X train. Theoretically, method A is sensitive to vehicle vibration than method B. However, HEMU-430X's bogie vibration frequency range is out of interest range of measurement system. Therefore, method A can also apply the HEMU-430X train.

A military vehicle undergoes normal to extreme driving conditions, which consequently induce the fatigue and fracture of cabin and frame. So, it is important to estimate the fatigue life of two components at an initial design stage. In this paper, Modal Superposition Method(MSM) was applied to evaluate the durability performance of a small-sized military truck. For reliable durability analysis, a Virtual Test Lab(VTL) Model was established by correlation with experimental results. These data were extracted from actual driving test, modal test, and SPMD(Suspension Parameter Measuring Device) test. This process shows that Virtual Fatigue Analysis can be a useful approach in the development of military vehicles as well as commercial vehicles.

This paper describes the design and implementation of a network system for UAV for multiple clients that enables long-range operation based on a commercial mobile network. A prototype data modem is developed with a commercial embedded M2M module in order to provide an access to the mobile network. A central server with a database is constructed to record all of real-time flight and video data and communicate with a ground control system. A GCS is developed for the central control, the single UAV and the smart phone version to be used for different purposes. Performance tests were progressed for data delay, video frame rate and state of clients. Flight tests were also performed to verify the reliability of the modem with respect to altitude.

In this paper, we propose a method of near-field analysis for vehicle LF antennas in order to estimate the accurate reading range of a smart key. The LF antenna consists of a ferrite core and a conducting wire which is coated with polyethylene for insulation, and it is mounted at the rear bumper frame of a commercial vehicle. The reading range of a smart key is measured at nine azimuthal directions distributed around the rear bumper, and then, the received power at each maximum reading range is measured by using a spectrum analyzer. The measurement shows that the maximum reading range exists between 1.38 m and 1.53 m, and the radiated power is between -83.6 dBmW and -75.0 dBmW. We further conducted EM simulation to estimate the reading range and the received power under the same condition that we applied for the measurement. The results demonstrate that an accurate reading range and received power can be achieved by simulation.

We conducted a dynamic analysis of an underwater test collector, which operates on extremely soft soil of deep-seafloor. The underwater test collector consists of nodule pick-up device, vehicle tracks, nodule crusher, loading frame and electric-electronic system. The weight of underwater test collector is about 8600 kg. The average normal pressure, that the underwater test collector supports, is about 6.0 kPa. The dynamic analysis model of underwater test collector is developed using commercial software RecurDyn-LM and Visual Fortran 90. A terramechanics model of extremely soft soil is implemented to the software based on user-written subroutine and applied to the dynamic analysis of the underwater test collector model. The dynamic responses of test collector are studied with respect to track velocities, terrain conditions, and coefficients of added mass and drag.

Agricultural tractors are utilized on rough road such as rice paddy field. Therefore, static and dynamic load should be considered when simulating structural analysis with finite element analysis (FEA). But it consumes a lot of time and effort to measure dynamic load because of difficulty and complexity in modeling various field working load conditions and kinematics of machinery. In this paper, to reduce the efforts, 4-post road simulator is developed for agricultural tractor like modeling commercial vehicle. In proving ground test in our facility, I measured acceleration of front/rare axle and strain of body frame to validate input loads. The acceleration is used for defining input loads. And strain is validated with dynamics analysis including mode superposition method. As a result, I was able to calculate 4-post input road profiles, which represent similar proving ground profile with good reliability.

The collapse of bridges can cause massive casualties and economic losses. Therefore, it is thus essential to evaluate the structural safety of bridges. For this task, structural reliability analysis, considering various bridge-related uncertainty factors, is often used. This paper proposes a new computational platform to perform structural reliability analysis for bridges and evaluate their structural safety under various loading conditions. For this purpose, a software package of reliability analysis, Finite Element Reliability Using MATLAB (FERUM), was integrated with MIDAS/CIVIL, which is a widely-used commercial software package specialized for bridges. Furthermore, a graphical user interface (GUI) control module has been added to FERUM to overcome the limitations of software operation. In this study, the proposed platform was applied to a simple frame structure, and the analysis results of the FORM (First-Order Reliability Method) and MCS (Monte Carlo simulation), which are representative reliability analysis methods, were compared. The proposed platform was verified by confirming that the calculated failure probability difference was less than 5%. In addition, the structural safety of a pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridge was evaluated considering the KL-510 vehicle model. The proposed new structural reliability analysis platform is expected to enable an effective reliability-based safety evaluation of bridges.
