Laying hens were fed commercial diets added with supplemented fat (SFAT) at 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8% in order to study the long term dietary effects - on - their productive performance from 22 to 75 wk of age. Five hundred and seventy six Single Comb White Leghorn hens were assigned to one of the four dietary treatments. The experimental phase consisted of three periods of 18 wk each. The final body weight and gain of hens fed on diets with SFAT at 1.2% and 1.8% were lower (p<0.05) than those hens given no SFAT. The SFAT at the 1.2% and 1.8% levels improved egg production rate, egg weight and mass, as well as FCR. Mortality and feed consumption were not affected by dietary SFAT. Administration of a diet with SFAT significantly decreased the cracked-broken egg ratio (p<0.01). The beneficial effects of SFAT on egg production performance were particularly more pronounced at intermediate and later ages. Hence, SFAT by period interactions were significant for all traits studied except feed intake. Hens fed SFAT deposited significantly higher abdominal fat than those on the no-SFAT diet. As a result, SFAT at 1.2% and 1.8% inclusion levels provided benefits in terms of efficient table egg production.

The use of chopped sugarcane stalk (CSS) as a roughage for lactating cows was examined using four Holstein crossbred cows in a private dairy farm in Khon Kaen, Thailand, in comparison with rice straw (RS), which is the conventional roughage in the dry season in the region. Cows were subjected to the following two dietary treatments: Diet 1) RS with commercial concentrate feed, and Diet 2) CSS and RS with commercial concentrate feed. The diet was switched over every 3 weeks. The amount of concentrate was determined by the experience of the owner of the cows. RS and CSS were given ad libitum. There was no difference in milk production between two groups, although the total DMI was less in cows fed CSS. Solid-not-fat (SNF) content in milk was significantly higher in the cows given CSS. The NEFA content was significantly lower in the animals given CSS, which suggested that cows given only RS as roughage would be suffering from energy malnutrition. Therefore, it was considered that CSS feeding improved energy supply, which resulted in higher SNF in milk. In the nutritional point of view, the present study clearly showed CSS can be used as a roughage for dairy cows in the dry season.
This study was conducted to evaluate seasonal effects on production performance of lactation sows reared in two different environments in South Korea. A total of 76 sows ($Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$) from the Dankook University experimental farm and 120 sows ($Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$) from a commercial farm were collected. In the current study, reduced (p < 0.01) feed intake and energy intake during lactation were observed in warm season compared with cool season in both farms. Sows in cool season had higher backfat thickness at weaning but lower back fat loss (p < 0.01) than those in warm season. The weaning to estrus interval was lower (p < 0.01) in cool season than in warm season. Piglets weaned in warm season had lower (p < 0.01) body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), and average daily gain (ADG) at weaning than did those weaned in cool season on the Dankook University farm, whereas the reduction effect was only observed during 0 - 21 d on the commercial farm (p < 0.01). Moreover, piglets weaned in cool season had higher BW, BWG, and ADG (p < 0.05) on both farms. In conclusion, our results indicate that warm season had very negative effects on feed intake and production performance of lactating sows and piglets.
Commercial liquid seeds are used for supplying active microbial flora to organic wastewater treatment plants of high feed-to-microorganism ratio and to maintain optimal microbial condition during unsteady state operation of the biological wastewater treatment plant. In addition to bacterial cells, the liquid weeds contain various additives for special purposes as well as organic substrates for energy supply. The additives give physical stability for the maintenance of microbial decomposition activity and ability to control the overgrowth of seed strains. In this work, the effects of addition of two kinds of typical substrate additives, poly aluminum chloride(PAC) and poly aluminum sulfate(PAS) on the consitutional total cell counts(CFU/ml) of four kinds of reorganization liquid seeds(RLS I, RLS II, RLS III and RLS IV) were studied experimentally. The addition of PAC and PAS gave negative effect on TCC constitution for the four seeds studied.

In this paper, an NC data optimization approach for enhancing 5-axis machining speed is presented. It is usual to use expensive commercial CAD/CAM programs for NC data of 5-axis machining, since it needs very large calculations for optimal tool positioning and orientation, tool path planning, and collision-free tool path generation. Since commercial CAD/CAM systems have similar functions and efficiency based on common algorithms of reliable theories, they do not have their own unique features for machining speed and efficiency. In other words, most commercial CAD/CAM systems consider only the characteristics of part geometry to be machined, which means that they generate almost the same NC data if the part to be machined is the same, even though different machines are used for the pin. A new approach is proposed for optimizing NC data of 5-axis machining, which is based on the characteristics of the machine to be operated. As a result, the speed of 5-axis machining can increase without losing machining accuracy and surface quality.
From August 1976 to May 1977, a series of rearing experiments of eels weighing over 5 grams were carried out utilizing indoor recirculating aquariums and the results are summarized as following: 1. The eels were instantly acclimatized in the aquarium when alive Tubifex was fed as food, resulting in the food coefficient of around 5, and the daily growth rate of $2\%$ or so (Table 2). 2. When mackerel flesh was used in combination with flour dough or commercial powdered feed, the food coefficients were 4 to 5 and daily growth rates were between 1 and $2\%$ (Tables 3 and 4). 3. The eels of 12.4-14.7g in average weight which had not shown any growth when fed processed feed, grew normally when they were fed alternately with alive Tubifex and processed feed with the results of 4.3-6.0 in food coefficient and $1.4-2.3\%$ in daily growth rate (Table 5). 4. Experimental processed feed containing North Pacific which fish meal as the main ingredient showed the food coefficient of 1.31-1. 83 as dry material and this means that there is not any significant difference between this experimental feed and the control commercial eel feed, imported front Japan which showed food coefficient of 1.34 and 1.328 (Tables 6 and 7). 5. The feed cost may be reduced by about $45\%$ (based on tile domestic prices in the spring 1977) if this experimental processed feed is used instead of imported commercial feed. 6. Uneven growth is markedly significant in eels, and those which showed retarded growth gave very poor food efficiency as well as poor growth rate until they reach the size of about 30 grams. Thereafter they recovered both the normal food coefficient and growth rate. 7. Individuals which have been showing significant retarded growth may have some inherent physiological factors but this poor growth might also be, more or less, results of some external factors which are considered necessary to be investigated.
To investigate the effect of dietary mugwort pellet on the growing performance and meat quality barrow (T1) and boar (T2) were alloted into six treatments : 1) commercial feed, 2) T1-1 and T2-1 (commercial feed supplemented with 3.0% mugwort pellet), 3) T1-2 and T2-2 (commercial feed supplemented with 5.0% mugwort pellet). They were fed experimental diets for 60 days before slaughtered. Meat samples were taken in wrap package and stored at 4$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$. Daily gain in both groups (T1 and T2) were higher than those of the control (p<0.05). Feed conversion tended to be lower in barrow group than boar group and tended to be decreased according to supplementation of mugwort pelleted diet in barrow group. In both barrow and boar groups, proximate compositions of pork were not sigificantly different, except for crude fat. Crude fat content was tended to be low in barrow when fed mugwort pelleted diet. Shear force value and sensory properties were siginificantly higher in barrow group than in boar group (p<0.05) and these results were also seemed due to great fed mugwort pelleted aiet(p<0.05). In the barrow group, values of tenderness and flavor were the highest in pigs fed diet supplemented with 3.0% mugwort. The catechin content of pork tended to be higher in boar group than in barrow group and catechin tended to increase with supplementation of mugwort in the diet.

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of dietary moisture content on the growth and gastrointestinal evacuation of sub-adult olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) in the summer and winter seasons. In the first experiment, three experimental diets containing different moisture levels (7%, 15%) and additives were prepared by adding water and commercial additives (1% nutrients, 1% digestives) to commercial extruded pellets. Fish (initial weight: $332{\pm}9.2$ g) were distributed randomly into six 3000 L tanks (25 fish/tank) in a flow-through tank system. Two replicate groups of fish were fed the experimental diets to satiation for 14 weeks during the summer season ($21.4{\pm}2.5^{\circ}C$). Survival, weight gain, feed efficiency, and daily feed intake did not differ significantly among groups. In the second experiment, two experimental diets containing different moisture levels (8%, 23%) were prepared by adding water to commercial extruded pellets. Fish (initial weight: $646{\pm}6.7$ g) were randomly distributed into six 3000 L tanks (20 fish/tank) in a flow-through tank system. Three replicate groups of fish were fed the experimental diets to satiation for 19 weeks during the winter season ($12.2{\pm}1.2^{\circ}C$). Weight gain, feed efficiency, and daily feed intake did not differ significantly among groups. Gastrointestinal evacuation rates were determined after the end of the winter feeding trials. The stomach contents of fish fed diets containing different moisture levels peaked within 3 h after feeding and then decreased gradually over 40 h to approach pre-feeding levels. Intestinal contents began to accumulate 3 h after feeding and reached a maximum at 32 h, then declined until nearly complete evacuation around 56 h. The stomach contents reached moisture levels of approximately 70% within 3 h after feeding and then increased gradually. No considerable difference in moisture levels was observed in the stomach contents of fish fed diets with different moisture contents. The results of this study suggest that the gastric evacuation of sub-adult olive flounder was not affected by dietary moisture level and the addition of water to the diet had no beneficial effect on the growth of sub-adult olive flounder in the summer and winter seasons.

Sex identification in day-old chicks is essential in the poultry industry. Currently, the feather-sexing using a sex-linked inheritance is a chick sexing method used extensively in the poultry industry. For chicks produced by feather-sexing, all females are early-feathering (EF) chicks and all males are late-feathering (LF) chicks. Therefore, investigating the effects of EF and LF phenotypes on production traits of chickens is critical. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the production performance between EF and LF chickens in Korean native commercial chickens. The results showed that the survival rate of the EF chickens was significantly higher than that of the LF chickens, from hatching to 12 weeks of age (P<0.05), with the highest difference observed in females. However, no significant difference was observed in body weight between the EF and LF chickens at almost all ages. In addition, no significant difference was observed between in feed utility, such as average daily feed intake and feed conversion ratio, between the EF and LF groups. In conclusion, although the survival rate of early-feathering chickens was superior to that of late-feathering chickens, no significant difference was observed in growth performance and feed utility among Korean native chickens. The results suggest that production capacity is not influenced by feathering type in the establishment of a breeder structure and production system for feather-sexing Korean native chickens, which is valuable for the practical application of feather-sexing in the poultry industry.
This study was conducted to develop an prototype automatic feeder (AF) for growing-finishing pigs. The main components of AF were a feed storage hopper, a feeding motor, a feed agitator, a control box and a programmable IC, which were controlled by a personal computer. The powder type feed transfer rate of AF was average $9.83{\pm}0.4\;g\;s^{-1}$. In feeding test, growing pigs (Landrace) of about 43 kg live weight were used in the study, and was fed over a 6 weeks in pens with solid concrete floors. For feeding trials with AF, the operation time of the feeding motor was set to 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 seconds per feeding. Pigs frequently used AF from 05:00 to 11:00 and from 11:00 to 17:00 without relationship to the operation time of the feeding motor. The AF operation time of the feeding motor to minimize feed loss was between 2 and 4 seconds. Pigs fed with AF had same or slightly higher average daily gam (0.8~0.9 kg) than that with a commercial feeder, and average daily feed intake (2.76~2.93 kg) and feed conversion ratio (3.10~3.66) of pigs fed with AF were same or lower than those with the commercial feeder except the operation time of the feeding motor set to 6 seconds. As a result, AF would help to use and improve the productivity of growing-finishing pigs.
