The flameless combustion has been considered as one of the promising combustion technology for high thermal efficiency, reducing NOx and CO emissions. In this paper, the effect of air and fuel injection condition on formation of flameless combustion was analyzed using three dimensional numerical simulation. The results show that the high temperature region and the average temperature was decreased due to increase of recirculation ratio when air velocity is increased. The average temperature was also affected by entrainment length. Generally mixing effect was enhanced at low entrainment length and dilution was dominated at high entrainment length. This entrainment length was greatly affected by air and fuel injection velocity and distance between air and fuel. It is also found that the recirculation ratio and dilution effect were generally increased by entrainment length and the recirculation ratio, mixing and dilution effect are the significant factor for design of flameless combustion system.
The soot yield has been studied by a premixed propane-oxygen-inert gas combustion in a specially designed disk-type constant-volume combustion chamber to investigate the effects of pressure, temperature and turbulence on soot formation. Premixtures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of chamber at 45 degree intervals in order to observe the soot formation under high pressures. The eight flames converged compress the end gases to a high pressure. The laser schlieren and direct flame photographs for observation field with 10 mm in diameter are taken to examine into the behaviors of flame front and gas flow in laminar and turbulent combustion. The soot volume fraction in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the highest pressure is measured by the in situ laser extinction technique and simultaneously the corresponding burnt gas temperature by the two-color pyrometry method. The pressure and temperature during soot formation are changed by varying the initial charge pressure and the volume fraction of inert gas compositions, respectively. It is found that the soot yield increases with dropping temperature and rising pressure at constant equivalence ratio, and that the soot yield of turbulent combustion decreases in comparison with that of laminar combustion because the burnt gas temperature increases with the drop of heat loss.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism and effect of moxa bucket moxibustion. Objectively, to be used as the quantitative data through the measurement of temperature, and to grasp the thermodynamic characteristics of moxa bucket moxibustion. Methods: We have selected of the moxa bucket moxibustion. We make a comparative study of the thermodynamic characteristics of moxa bucket moxibustion. We examined combustion times, temperatures, temperature gradients in each period during a combustion of moxa bucket moxibustion made by oak wood. Results: 1. We can design the moxa bucket moxibustion that it has 57.6$^{\circ}C$ maximum temperature with 7g weight and 10mm height, if we use more weight of moxa or lower the height of moxa, we can observe relatively elavated maximum temperature. We observe the maximum temperature following the measuring position of moxa bucket and we can see higher temperature at the center of the moxa bucket and lower temperature at the side of the moxa bucket. 2. We can design the moxa bucket moxibustion with 5g moxa and 10mm height that it has 0.121 $^{\circ}C$/sec of maximum temperature gradient, and it has relatively high temperature gradient at lower weight and height condition. 3. We can design the moxa bucket moxibustion with 7g moxa and 15mm height that it has 4,135sec of the longest effective temperature combustion time, if we use more weight of moxa or higher height of moxa, we can observe relatively extended effective temperature combustion time. We observe the longest effective combustion time following the measuring position of moxa bucket. We can see higher temperature at the center of the moxa bucket and lower temperature at the side of the moxa bucket.

We produced cylindrical porous TiNi bodies by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) process, varying the heating schedule prior to ignition of a loose preform compact made from (Ti+Ni) powder mixture. To investigate the effect of the heating schedule on the behaviour of combustion wave propagation and the structure of porous TiNi shape-memory alloy (SMA) body, change of temperature in the compact during SHS process was measured as a function of time and used for determining combustion temperature and combustion wave velocity. Microstructure of produced porous TiNi SMA body was observed and the results were discussed with the combustion characteristics. From the results it was concluded that the final average pore size could be controlled either by the combustion wave velocity or by the average temperature of the preform compact prior to ignition.
This paper was concerned with pool fire about many used kerosene and diesel oil. In order to know the thermal effects of kerosene and diesel oil, temperature change in the pool fire of these fuels were obtained as a variation of combustion time and the tank's height and diameter by using the data acquisition system, And fuel combustion velocity were derived as a function of the diameter and wall thickness of tanks and combustion time. As a result, when the tank's height was 15㎝, the greater diameter the higher temperature rising regardless of tank's wall thickness and fuels. But, when the tank's height is 30㎝, temperature rising was not higher than 15㎝. Also, temperature rising in the pool fire of kerosene much higher than diesel oil. Kerosene's combustion velocity was about two times faster than diesel oil. And, kerosene's combustion velocity was increased according to the increasing of tank's diameter and combustion time. But, diesel oil's combustion velocity was a little increased or not. Surrounding temperature change of tank with the pool fire was obtained temperature distribution of 0∼35℃ according to the change of tank's diameter and distance from the tank's wall.
Recently, studies on Mild combustion have grown in many combustion application fields in the international combustion society. Compared with international activities in this field, domestic study in Korea has not been activated yet. This brief review aims to explain some essences of fundamental physics of Mild combustion and to introduce some recent application techniques of them. Fundamental physics of Mild combustion has been usually broken down into three aspects [1]; physical, thermodynamic, and chemical aspects. A major portion of Mild combustion physics is related to HiTAC (High Temperature Air Combustion) or HiCOT (High Temperature Combustion Technology). Although definition of Mild combustion is easily accepted among combustion engineers, combustion control in Mild combustion may be difficult without understanding essential physics of it. To encourage the research in this field, some representative cases will be introduced, and related essential techniques will be explained.
The $PM_{2.5}$ samples were obtained from coal combustion with the four different combustion temperatures (550, 700, 900 and $1100^{\circ}C$) to understand chemical composition in carbonaceous aerosol. OC concentration was the highest when the combustion temperature was $550^{\circ}C$, while, the highest concentration for EC was shown at $700^{\circ}C$ of the coal combustion temperature. However, OC concentrations were very low and EC was not detected when the temperature was over $900^{\circ}C$. It indicates complete combustion was achieved when the combustion temperature was over $900^{\circ}C$. For six groups of organic compounds, n-alkanes and n-alkanoic acids were predominant at all of the combustion temperature in smoke of coal combustion, while, PAHs was only detected at $550^{\circ}C$. The diagnostic ratios of PAHs calculated in this study were 0.59 for Fluoranthene/(Fluoranthene+Pyrene), reflecting the characteristics of coal combustion. The Carbon number Preference Index (CPI) values of n-alkanes which ranged from 0.9 to 1.3 also showed the characteristics of coal combustion.
Titanium carbide was synthesized by reacting the prepared titanium powder and carbon black using SHS method sustains the reaction spontaneously, utilizing heat generated by the exothermic reaction itself. In this process, the effect of the particle size of titanium powder on combustion temperature and combustion wave velocity was investigated. By controlling combustion temperature and combustion wave velocity via mixing Ti and C powder with TiC, the reaction kinetics of TiC formation by SHS method was considered. Without reference to the change of combustion temperature and combustion wave velocity, TiC was easily synthesized by combustion reaction. As the particle size of titanium powder was bigger, or, as the amount of added diluent(TiC) increased, combustion temperature and combustion wave velocity were found to be decreased. The formation of TiC by combustion reaction in the Ti-C system seems to occur via two different mechanisms. At the beginning of the reaction, when the combustion temperatures were higher than 2551 K, the reaction was considered to be controlled by the rate of dissolution of carbon into a titanium melt with an apparent activation energy of 148 kJ/mol. For combustion temperatures less than 2551 K, it was considered to be controlled by the atomic diffusion rate of carbon through a TiC layer with an apparent activation energy of 355 kJ/mol. The average particle size of the synthesized titanium carbide was smaller than that of the starting material(Ti).
Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism and effect of moxibustion objectively and to be used as the quantitative data for developing the new thermal stimulating treatment by observing the combustion time and temperature of commercial moxaes. Methods : We have selected two types(large-size moxa A(LMA), large-size moxa B (LMB)) among large moxaes used widely in the clinic. We examined combustion times, temperatures in each period during a combustion of moxa. Results : 1. The combustion time in the preheating period was about 30sec in both moxaes on the non-contact heated surface. 2. The combustion time in the heating period was about 345sec in LMA and about 1391 sec in LMB, about 4 times longer in LMB on the non-contact surface. 3. The maximum temperature in the heating period was $44.5^{\circ}C$ in LMA and $45.4^{\circ}C$ in LMB respectively, higher by $0.9^{\circ}C$ in LMB. The average temperature in the heating period was $35.5{\sim}37.6^{\circ}C$ in LMA and $36.0{\sim}39.8^{\circ}C$ in LMB, a little higher in LMB. 4. The combustion time in the retaining period in LMA was 45.4sec and 13% of that in the heating period, and in LMB 594.7sec and 43% of that in the heating period on the non-contact surface. 5. On the point(PH) measured maximum temperature, the average temperature during the retaining period was $44.0^{\circ}C$, $42.9^{\circ}C$ respectively and the temperature at an end of the retaining period was $43.0^{\circ}C$, $40.2^{\circ}C$ respectively. 6. The time at a beginning of the cooling period was about 418 sec from ignition in LMA and 2021sec in LMB, and the temperature at that time was $36.9{\sim}39.1^{\circ}C$ on the non-contact surface. Conclusion : It was thought that not only the figure of moxicombustion device, but also the form and size of moxa had influence on the combustion characteristics deciding the performance of stimulus seriously.
