Reduction of NOx emission from fuel nitrogen in new staged fuelling system(1)(Characteristics of NOx formation & reduction)

  • The effects of NOx reduction by new staged fuelling system in a small scale combustor (6.6 ㎾$_{T}$) have been investigated using propane gas flames laden with ammonia as fuel-nitrogen. The variables which had the greatest influence on NOx reduction were temperature, reducing stoichiometry( related to main combustion zone stoichiometry, air fraction and returning fuel fraction ) and residence time. The best NOx reduction was observed at the reburning zone stoichiometry of 0.85. In terms of residence time of the reburning zone, NOx reduction was effective when burnout air was injected at the Point where the reburning zone has been already established.d.

원주 보염기에 의해 안정화된 난류 예혼합 화염의 구조 (Structure of Premixed Turbulent Flames Stabilized by a Cylinderical Flame Holder)

  • 본 논문에서는 일양한 예혼합 기류중에 놓여진 원주 후류의 고온 순환류에 의 해 보지되는 난류 예혼합 화염을 대상으로 해서 유동의 가시화 및 온도와 이온전류의 변동의 측정에 의해서 화염의 구조를 조사한 결과, 원주 보염기 후류의 재순환 영역부 근에 형성된 전단층에 있어서는 코히렌트(Coherent)구조의 화염이 되고 하류부에서는 불규칙한 3차원 와(渦)에 지배되는 전파성 화염이 형성 되었다. 온도변동에 대한 쌍 봉성의 확율밀도분포와 이온전류변동에 대한 3개의 피이크의 확율밀도분포는 엷은 반 응면을 사이에 두고 미연혼합기괴와 기연가스괴가 서로 접하는 주름 상층류화염 또는 층류화염편의 구조에 대응하며, 코히렌트 와(渦)에 지배되는 화염에 있어서는 거시적 혼합은 코히렌트 와의 거동에 지배되나 그 구조는 주름상층류 화염과 일부 강한 전단 력을 받는 부분에는 분산 반응영역의 구조임이 밝혀졌다.

  • Combustion using oxygen enriched air is known as a technology which can increase flame stability as well as thermal efficiency due to improvement of the burning rate. Lift-off, blowout limit and flame length were examined as a function of jet velocity, coflow velocity and OEC(Oxygen Enriched Concentration). Blowout limit of the flame below OEC 25% decreased with coflow velocity, but the limit above OEC 25% increased inversely. Lift-off height decreased with increase of OEC. Especially lift-off hardly occurred in the condition above OEC 40%. Flame length of the flames above OEC 40% was increased until the blowout occurred. Flame stability became improved since lift-off and blowout limit increased much with increase of OEC.

  • Syngas laminar flame speed measurements were carried out at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature using the Bunsen flame configuration with nozzle burner as a fundamental study on flame stability of syngas. Representative syngas mixture compositions ($H_2:CO$) such as 25:75%, 50:50% and 70:25% and equivalence ratios from 0.5 to 1.4 were investigated. The measured laminar flame speeds were in good agreement with the previous numerical data as well as experimental data available in the literatures over a wide range of equivalence ratio tested. It was reconfirmed that the laminar flame speed gradually increased with the increase in $H_2$ content in a fuel mixture. In particular, the significant increasing rate of flame speed was observed with the increase in equivalence ratio.

  • A premixed flame propagating in a tube suffers strong variation in its shape and structure depending on boundary conditions. The effects of thermal boundary conditions and flow fields on flame propagation are numerically investigated. Navier-Stokes equations and species equations are solved with a one-step irreversible global reaction model of methane-air mixture. Finite volume method using an adaptive grid method is applied to investigate the flame structure. In the case of an adiabatic wall, friction force on the wall significantly affected the flame structure while in the case of an isothermal wall, local quenching near the wall dominated flame shapes and propagation. In both cases, variations of flow fields occurred not only in the near field of the flame but also within the flame itself, which affected propagation velocities. This study provides an overview of the characteristics of flames in small tubes at a steady state.

  • The instantaneous flame temperature and soot formation and oxidation in a D. I. diesel engine are measured by using a two-color method. The proposed method based on the continuous spectral radiation from the soot particles in flames is applicable to industrial diesel engines without major modifications of their main characteristics. Measurements are performed at one location inside the combustion chamber of a D.I. diesel engine. Effects of different engine speeds and loads on flame temperature and KL factor which is an index of soot concentrations were examined. A little temperature change were observed with increasing engine speed, while increased with loads. The higher the flame temperature is, the lower the KL factor is.

  • The transient process simplified by the 1-D stretched laminar flame formed at the fuel-oxidizer interface was investigated using the coherent flame sheet model. Under the combustion environment of high temperatures and pressures the results show that the time required to reach the steady state was relatively short compared to the reverse of strain rate. Hence the employment of the tabulation of precalculated steady-flame results in the calculation of turbulent diffusion flames using the coherent flame sheet model is concluded valid, Also upstream temperatures were found to have only a minor effect on the nondimensional flame temperature and nondimensional fuel even through the letter is sensitive to pressure changes.

  • Significant real fluid behaviors including rapid property changes take place where high pressure combustion devices such as rocket engines. The flamelet model is the reliable approach to account for the real fluid effects. In the present study, the flamelet equations are extended to treat the general fluids over transcritical and supercritical states. The real fluid flamelet model is carried out for the gaseous hydrogen and cryogenic liquid oxygen flames at the wide range of thermodynamic conditions. Based on numerical results, the precise discussions are made for effects of real fluid, pressure, and differential diffusion on the local flame structure.

  • This study has been mainly motivated to numerically model the transcritical mixing and reacting flow processes encountered in the liquid propellant rocket engines. In the present approach, turbulence is represented by the extended k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model. To account for the real fluid effects, the propellant mixture properties are calculated by using SRK (Souve-Redlich-Kwong) equation of state model. In order to realistically represent the turbulence-chemistry interaction in the turbulent non-premixed flames, the flamelet approach based on the real fluid flamelet library has been adopted. Based on numerical results, the detailed discussions are made for the real fluid effects and the precise structure of the transcritical cryogenic liquid nitrogen jet and gaseous hydrogen/liquid oxygen coaxial jet flame.

  • The effect of secondary flow on both methane/air and propane/air premixed flame was investigated experimentally. By changing the radius of curvature, various flame behavior was observed. In the V-bend nozzles, flame surface is deformed from axisymmetry. As the exit velocity increased, flame lifted off partially. When the radius of curvature of the V-bend increased, the region where premixed flame is entirely on the rim increased. Since the axial velocity field is changed due to the secondary flow effect, comparison of V-bend and straight tube with the same diameter shows larger V-bend nozzle exit velocity for both flash back and flame blowout. The flame characteristics are mapped with a equivalence ratio, a velocity, and a nozzle radius of curvature. To identify physical reasoning on the flame surface deformation, numerical calculations are conducted. OH radical distributions in flames are visualized by PLIF technique.
