복사 열전달을 고려한 고체 추진제의 연소 불안정 현상에 관한 재해석 (Reexamination of the combustion instability of solid propellant with radiative heat transfer)

  • 고체 추진제를 사용하는 추진 시스템을 개발하는데 가장 커다란 문제로 인식되고 있는 것은 추진제의 연소 특성을 이해하는 일이다. 그 중에서도 연소실의 압력 진동과 추진제 벽면으로 흡수되는 복사 열전달에 의한 연소율(burning rate)의 변화로 인하여 발생하는 연소 불안정에 대한 이해는 아직도 완전히 규명되지 않고 있다. 고체 추진제의 연소 불안정에 대한 이론적 해석은 준-정상 1차원 해석(Quasi-Steady Homogeneous One-Dimension) 방법에 의하여 단순화된 지배방정식을 해석하는 것이 일반적으로 잘 알려져 있는 방법이다. 이 가정은 고체 추진제가 연수되는 영역을 두께가 매우 얇은 영역의 표면반응영역(surface reaction layer)과 화학반응이 없는 응축상태영역(condensed phase zone) 그리고 기체상태의 연료와 화염이 존재하는 기체상태영역(gas phase zone) 등의 3영역으로 구분하며, 기체상태영역에서 발생하는 교란에 대한 응축상태영역의 반응시간 크기(response time scale)가 매우 크기 때문에 응축상태영역의 반응은 준 정상적으로 일어난다고 가정하는 것이다.그러나, 연소실의 온도가 $3000^{\circ}K$ 정도의 높은 온도이어서 복사 열전달에 의한 고체 추진제의 가열이 중요한 열전달 방법으로 작용하게 되므로 이를 무시한 이론적 해석은 물리적인 중요성이 약하여질 수밖에 없다. 본 연구에서는 기체영역으로부터 전달되는 복사 열전달은 투명(transparent)한 표면반응영역을 통과하여 응축상태영역에서 모두 흡수되며 추진제 표면에서의 복사열방출(emission)을 고려하였다. 또한 연소불안정 현상을 해석하기 위하여 표면반응영역에서의 경계조건은 선형교란량으로 대치하는 Zn(Zeldovich-Novozhilov) 방법을 사용하였다. 이 방법은 기체상태영역에 대한 구체적인 해석없이도 연소불안정 현상을 해석할 수 있는 장점이 잇다. 즉 응축상태영역에서의 연소율과 표면온도는 각각 기체영역으로부터 전달되는 온도구배와 연소압력, 그리고 복사 열전달의 함수관계이므로 선형교란에 의한 추진제표면에서의 교란경계조건을 얻을 수 잇으며, 응축영역의 교란지배방정식과 함께 사용하여 압력교란과 복사 열전달의 교란에 대한 연소율의 교란 증감 여부를 판단하여 연소 불안정 현상을 해석할 수 있다.

트리아졸 계열의 에너지 가소제 합성 연구 (The Study on the Synthesis of Triazole Derivatives as Energetic Plasticizer)

  • 세계적으로 사용 중인 대부분의 추진물질들은 연소 시 메탄가스, 이산화탄소 등의 환경유해 물질을 다량 발생시킨다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 개선하기 위해 에너지 가소제로 사용 가능한 고질소 화합물인 트리아졸 계열의 4,5-bis(azidomethyl)-methyl-1,2,3-triazole(DAMTR)의 합성공정을 확립하였다. 또한, 분광분석(NMR, IR)을 통해 DAMTR의 구조를 분석하였고, 유리전이온도, 녹는점, 분해온도, 밀도, 점도, 충격감도, 점도, 휘발성 등의 물리적 특성을 측정하였다. 그리고 Gaussian 09와 EXPLO5를 이용하여 생성열과 폭발 특성(폭압, 폭속) 등을 계산하였다.

연소실 내 동축형 2-유체 분무의 이론적 모델 (Theoretical Model of Coaxial Twin-Fluid Spray In a Liquid Rocket Combustor)

  • 액체로켓엔진에 사용되는 2-유체 동축형 분사기의 분무 연소 특성을 수치적으로 해석하였다. 가스 역학적 상호작용에 의한 미립화 및 그에 따른 물리 현상들에 대해 유동에 대한 보존방정식과 이론식들을 적용, 수치화하여 액체 제트의 상태, 제트의 속도, 제트의 붕괴길이, 액적의 크기등을 예측 하였으며, 액체제트 분사공 크기에 따른 미립화의 변화를 고찰하였다. 모델 검증을 위하여 액체 제트의 접촉길이와 액적의 크기를 기존의 실험결과와 비교하였으며, 그 결과 정성적으로 일치함을 나타내었다. 액체 제트의 접촉길이는 분사공의 직경이 증가할수록 짧아지고 액적의 크기도 분사공의 직경이 증가할수록 작아진다. 액체 제트는 박리율 증가에 따른 분무화에 의하여 단면적이 감소되며, 그에 따른 질량유속의 보존과 가스로부터의 운동량 화산에 따라 미립화가 활발해지는 영역으로부터 그 속도가 급속히 증가된다.

Dimethyl Ether와 디젤의 거시적 분무 특성 비교 (Comparison of Macroscopic Spray Characteristics of Dimethyl Ether with Diesel)

  • Dimethyl ether (DM) is one of the most attractive alternative fuel far compression ignition engine. Its main advantage in diesel engine application is high efficiency of diesel cycle with soot free combustion though conventional fuel injection system has to be modified due to the intrinsic properties of DME. Experimental study of DME and conventional diesel spray employing a common-rail type fuel injection system with a 5-holes sac type injector (hole diameter 0.168 ㎜/hole) was performed in a high pressure chamber pressurized with nitrogen gas. A CCD camera was employed to capture time series of spray images followed by spray cone angles and penetrations of DME were characterized and compared with those of diesel. Under atmospheric pressure condition, regardless of injection pressure, spray cone angles of the DME were wider than those of diesel and penetrations were shorter due to flash boiling effect. Tip of the DME spray was farmed in mushroom like shape at atmospheric chamber pressure but it was disappeared in higher chamber pressure. On the contrary, spray characteristics of the DME became similar to that of diesel under 3MPa of chamber pressure. Hole-to-hole variation of the DME spray was lower than that of diesel in both atmospheric and 3MPa chamber pressures. At 25MPa and 40MPa of DME injection pressures, regardless of chamber pressure, intermittent DME spray was observed. It was thought that vapor lock inside the injector was generated under the two injection pressures.

0.1 MW급 연소후 습식아민 CO2 포집 Test Bed 공정개선효과 검증 (Process Improvement and Evaluation of 0.1 MW-scale Test Bed using Amine Solvent for Post-combustion CO2 Capture)

  • Carbon Capture and Storage technologies are recognized as key solution to meet greenhouse gas emission standards to avoid climate change. Although MEA (monoethanolamine) is an effective amine solvent in $CO_2$ capture process, the application is limited by high energy consumption, i.e., reduction of 10% of efficiency of coal-fired power plants. Therefore the development of new solvent and improvement of $CO_2$ capture process are positively necessary. In this study, improvement of $CO_2$ capture process was investigated and applied to Test Bed for reducing energy consumption. Previously reported technologies were examined and prospective methods were determined by simulation. Among the prospective methods, four applicable methods were selected for applying to 0.1 MW Test Bed, such as change of packing material in absorption column, installing the Intercooling System to absorption column, installing Rich Amine Heater and remodeling of Amines Heat Exchanger. After the improvement construction of 0.1 MW Test Bed, the effects of each suggested method were evaluated by experimental results.

중질잔사유 적용시 발전플랜트의 에너지 수지 및 성능 변화 분석 (Analysis on the Energy Balance and Performance Variation of the Power Plant by using the Heavy Residual Oil)

  • 신에너지원으로 주목받고 있는 중질 잔사유를 기존 중유화력의 대체 연료로 사용하는 경우에 대하여 상용 해석코드로 플랜트의 에너지 및 물질 수지, 플랜트의 성능을 분석하였다. 국내 A 중유 화력발전소에 대한 플랜트 성능분석 모델을 구축하였으며 플랜트의 성능 및 효율 등에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과를 설계 및 실제 운전 데이터와 비교하여 그 건전성을 확인하였다. 중질 잔사유 적용에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과 출력은 315 MW로서 중유 적용시의 300 MW 보다 높게 나타났으며 플랜트 효율은 약간 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 외기온도 및 냉각수 온도, 배가스 순환량, 출력에 따른 열소비율의 민감도 분석으로부터 중질 잔사유 연소시의 최적 운전을 위한 기본 자료를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Biomass is well known for organic resources photosynthesized by carbon dioxide water in the air and thus it can be widely used in the form of energy and production for various kinds of materials. Through pyrolysis, biomass can be transformed into solid(biochar), liquid(bio-oil), and combustible gas on the different condition of temperature and heating rate. That's why biomass can be practically used to preprocess and produce a variety of elements. This work is to analyze the characteristics of slow pyrolysis of three different kinds of biomass extracted from Indonesia. They showed similar moisture content and combinations of combustible matters and had quite a large discrepancy in the ash among them like 2.1 & of Bagasse, 91% of PKS, and 20.9% of Paddy Straw, respectively. yield of biochar, solid form of the biomass, steadily decreased when the temperature went up and that of bio-oil the highest at the temperature of 500 degrees Celsius. At the same temperature range, PKS bio-oil showed 51.4 % of yield and Bagasse had 55.1% while it turned out that Paddy straw showed the lowest yield of 37.2%. The apparent density was also measured to figure out the density of each product from the pyrolysis experiments at the temperature of 500 degrees Celsius. The result was like these; the density of biochar was 0.17, the lowest, and that of Tree stem was 1.3 when mixed by an equal amount of biochar and bio-oil.

Development of a University-Based Simplified H2O2/PE Hybrid Sounding Rocket at KAIST

  • This paper reports development process of a university-based sounding rocket using simplified hybrid rocket propulsion system for low-altitude flight application. A hybrid propulsion system was tried to be designed with as few components as possible for more economical, simpler and safer propulsion system, which is essential for the small scale sounding rocket operation as a CanSat carrier. Using blow-down feeding system and catalytic ignition as combustion starter, 250 N class hybrid rocket system was composed of three components: a composite tank, valves, and a thruster. With a composite tank filled with both hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$) as an oxidizer and nitrogen gas($N_2$) as a pressurant, the feeding pressure was operated in blowdown mode during thruster operation. The $MnO_2/Al_2O_3$ catalyst was fabricated for propellant decomposition, and ground test of propulsion system showed the almost theoretical temperature of decomposed $H_2O_2$ at the catalyst reactor, indicating sufficient catalyst efficiency for propellant decomposition. Auto-ignition of the high density polyethylene(HDPE) fuel grain successfully occurred by the decomposed $H_2O_2$ product without additional installation of any ignition devices. Performance test result was well matched with numerical internal ballistics conducted prior to the experimental propulsion system ground test. A sounding rocket using the developed hybrid rocket was designed, fabricated, flight simulated and launch tested. Six degree-of-freedom trajectory estimation code was developed and the comparison result between expected and experimental trajectory validated the accuracy of the developed trajectory estimation code. The fabricated sounding rocket was successfully launched showing the effectiveness of the simplified hybrid rocket propulsion system.

Modeling of a Compressed Air Energy Electrification by Using Induction Generator Based on Field Oriented Control Principle

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a modelling of a small compressed air energy storage system, which drives an induction generator based on a field-oriented control (FOC) principle for a renewable power generation. The proposed system is a hybrid technology of energy storage and electrification, which is developed to use as a small scale of renewable energy power plant. The energy will be transferred from the renewable energy resource to the compressed air energy by reciprocating air compressor to be stored in a pressurized vessel. The energy storage system uses a small compressed air energy storage system, developed as a small unit and installed above ground to avoid site limitation as same as the conventional CAES does. Therefore, it is suitable to be placed at any location. The system is operated in low pressure not more than 15 bar, so, it easy to available component in country and inexpensive. The power generation uses a variable speed induction generator (IG). The relationship of pressure and air flow of the compressed air, which varies continuously during the discharge of compressed air to drive the generator, is considered as a control command. As a result, the generator generates power in wide speed range. Unlike the conventional CAES that used gas turbine, this system does not have any combustion units. Thus, the system does not burn fuel and exhaust pollution. This paper expresses the modelling, thermodynamic analysis simulation and experiment to obtain the characteristic and performance of a new concept of a small compressed air energy storage power plant, which can be helpful in system designing of renewable energy electrification. The system was tested under a range of expansion pressure ratios in order to determine its characteristics and performance. The efficiency of expansion air of 49.34% is calculated, while the efficiency of generator of 60.85% is examined. The overall efficiency of system of approximately 30% is also investigated.

전기자동차 배터리팩 열관리시스템에서 상변화물질 적용에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Application of Phase Change Material for Electric Vehicle Battery Thermal Management System using Dymola)

  • Global automobile manufacturers are developing electric vehicles (EVs) to eliminate the pollutant emissions from internal combustion vehicles and to minimize fossil fuel consumptions for the future generations. However, EVs have a disadvantage of shorter traveling distance than that of conventional vehicles. To answer this shortfall, more batteries are installed in the EV to satisfy the consumer expectation for the driving range. However, as the energy capacity of the battery mounted in the EV increases, the amount of heat generated by each cell also increases. Naturally, a better battery thermal management system (BTMS) is required to control the temperature of the cells efficiently because the appropriate thermal environment of the cells greatly affects the power output from the battery pack. Typically, the BTMS is divided into an active and a passive system depending on the energy usage of the thermal management system. Heat exchange materials usually include gas and liquid, semiconductor devices and phase change material (PCM). In this study, an application of PCM for a BTMS was investigated to maintain an optimal battery operating temperature range by utilizing characteristics of a PCM, which can accumulate large amounts of latent heat. The system was modeled using Dymola from Dassault Systems, a multi-physics simulation tool. In order to compare the relative performance, the BTMS with the PCM and without the PCM were modeled and the same battery charge/discharge scenarios were simulated. Number of analysis were conducted to compare the battery cooling performance between the model with the aluminum case and PCM and the model with the aluminum case only.
