High redshift galaxy clusters in ELAIS-N1/N2 fields with a new color selection technique

  • Galaxy clusters, the largest gravitationally bound systems, are an important means to place constraints on cosmological models. Moreover, they are excellent places to test galaxy evolution models in connection to the environments. To this day, massive clusters have been found unexpectedly(Kang & Im 2009, Durret et al. 2011, Tashikawa et al. 2012) and evolution of galaxies in cluster have been still controversial (Elbaz et al. 2007, Cooper et al. 2008, Tran et al. 2009). Finding galaxy cluster candidates at z>1 in a wide, deep imaging survey data will enable us to solve the such issues of modern extragalactic astronomy. We report new candidates of galaxy clusters and their physical properties in one of the wide and deep survey fields, European Large Area ISO Survey North1(ELAIS-N1) and North2(ELAIS-N2) fields, covering sky area of and each. We also suggest a new useful color selection technique to separate 1 < z < 2 galaxies from low-z galaxies by combining multi-wavelength data from the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey Deep Extragalactic Survey (UKIDSS DXS/J and K band), Spitzer Wise-area InfraRed Extragalactic survey (SWIRE/two mid-infrared bands), Canada France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT/z band), Issac Newton Telescope(INT/ u, g, r, i, z band) and Infrared Medium-deep Survey(IMS/J band).

An Improved Poincaré-like Carleman Linearization Approach for Power System Nonlinear Analysis

  • In order to improve the performance of analysis, it is important to consider the nonlinearity in power system. The Carleman embedding technique (linearization procedure) provides an effective approach in reduction of nonlinear systems. In the approach, a group of differential equations in which the state variables are formed by the original state variables and the vector monomials one can build with products of positive integer powers of them, is constructed. In traditional Carleman linearization technique, the tensor matrix is truncated to form a square matrix, and then regular linear system theory is used to solve the truncated system directly. However, it is found that part of nonlinear information is neglected when truncating the Carleman model. This paper proposes a new approach to solve the problem, by combining the Poincar$\acute{e}$ transformation with the Carleman linearization. Case studies are presented to verify the proposed method. Modal analysis shows that, with traditional Carleman linearization, the calculated contribution factors are not symmetrical, while such problems are avoided in the improved approach.

Semi-analytical elastostatic analysis of two-dimensional domains with similar boundaries

  • The scaled-boundary finite element method is a novel semi-analytical technique, combining the advantages of the finite element and the boundary element methods with unique properties of its own. The method works by weakening the governing differential equations in one coordinate direction through the introduction of shape functions, then solving the weakened equations analytically in the other (radial) coordinate direction. These coordinate directions are defined by the geometry of the domain and a scaling centre. This paper presents a general development of the scaled boundary finite-element method for two-dimensional problems where two boundaries of the solution domain are similar. Unlike three-dimensional and axisymmetric problems of the same type, the use of logarithmic solutions of the weakened differential equations is found to be necessary. The accuracy and efficiency of the procedure is demonstrated through two examples. The first of these examples uses the standard finite element method to provide a comparable solution, while the second combines both solution techniques in a single analysis. One significant application of the new technique is the generation of transition super-elements requiring few degrees of freedom that can connect two regions of vastly different levels of discretisation.

A High Performance Interleaved Bridgeless PFC for Nano-grid Systems

  • A high performance interleaved bridgeless boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifier operating under the critical current conduction mode (CrM) is proposed in this paper to improve the efficiency and system performance of various applications, such as nano-grid systems. By combining the interleaved technique with the bridgeless topology, the circuit contains two independent branches without rectifier diodes. The branches operate in interleaved mode for each respective half-line period. Moreover, when operating in CrM, all the power switches take on soft-switching, thereby reducing switching losses and raising system efficiency. In addition, the input current flows through a minimum amount of power devices. By employing a commercial PFC controller, an effective control scheme is used for the proposed circuit. The operating principle of the proposed circuit is presented, and the design considerations are also demonstrated. Simulations and experiments have been carried out to evaluate theoretical analysis and feasibility of the proposed circuit.

직교식 스테레오 비젼에서의 3차원 좌표 보정 (Calibration of 3D Coordinates in Orthogonal Stereo Vision)

  • 본 논문에서는 직교식 스테레오 비젼을 이용하여 단일개체에 대한 움직임 추적결과를 3차원 좌표로 생성, 보정하는 기법을 제안한다. 먼저, 직교로 구성된 두 대의 카메라로부터 실시간으로 영상을 획득한 후, 각 영상에 대하여 차영상 기법과 ART2(Adaptive Resonance Theory 2)를 이용하여 움직이는 개체를 추출한다. 다음으로 추출된 정면, 상면 영상의 좌표를 통해 3차원 좌표로 생성할 수 있으나, 원근감 문제 등으로 좌표가 정밀하지 못하다. 그래서 추출된 두 영상의 좌표를 직교식 스테레오 비젼을 이용하여 좌표보정을 한 후 3차원 좌표를 생성한다. 제안된 방법을 통해 단일개체의 움직임에 대한 추적 결과가 3차원 좌표로 정밀하게 추출 되는지 실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

  • 동영상기반 양방향 직접 전자상거래(DIMPEC, Direct Interactive Motion Picture Electronic Commerce) 기술은 인터넷으로 VOD, TV 드라마를 시청하면서 등장 소품, 배우 의상 등에 대한 부가 상세 정보를 얻을 수 있을 뿐 아니라 전자상거래를 이용하여 제품을 구매할 수 있는 원천기술이다. 또한 인터넷, PDA, Mobile, Settop Box 등 다양한 플랫폼 환경에서 구축이 가능하며, 최첨단 IT 기술인 위성 DMB, 지상파 DMB 등 에도 응용이 가능하여 경쟁력이 매우 높은 기술이다. 본 기술을 접목한 차세대 인터넷 비즈니스 모델인 이용자 참여, 동영상 콘텐츠의 소비 확대, 인터넷 서비스의 고도화 지능화, 모바일에 접목되어 차세대 비즈니스 모델을 형성할 것으로 예상 된다.

도심환경에서의 밀결합 측위 기법 (Closely Coupled Positioning Technique in Urban Environments)

  • 최근 위치해를 얻기위해서 위성을 기반으로한 GPS(Global Positioning System) 가 많이 이용되고 있다. 그러나 도심지역 등에서는 다중경로에 의한 영향으로 신뢰성 낮은 위치 정보를 수신할 수도 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 GPS신호와 QZSS(Quasi-Zenith Satellite System) 신호를 통합하는 밀결합 측위기법을 제안하고자 한다. 또한 AP(access point)정보를 이용함으로써 Wi-Fi 신호와 GNSS신호를 통합하는 밀결합 알고리즘을 제안하고자 한다. 본 연구과제는 도심지역에서 항법성능을 향상시키기 위해서 GPS/QZSS/Wi-Fi 통합항법 알고리즘을 개발하고, 이를 차량주행실험을 통하여 위치의 가용성과 정확도를 기준으로 성능분석을 수행하였다.

효율적인 데이터 전송을 위한 sub-code 멀티코드 하이브리드 DS/FH-SS 시스템 설계 (Design of sub-code Multi-Code Hybrid DS/FH-SS System for the Efficient Data Transmission)

  • 현재 디지털 이동통신에서 사용되고 있는 DS(direct sequence)/CDMA 방식은 멀티미디어 통신과 같은 고속 데이터 전송에 적용할 경우 다중경로 페이딩 채널하에서 인접심볼간 간섭 및 다중접속간섭이 심해지는 문제점을 갖고 있다. 이러한 문제들을 보완하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 다원 접속 간섭을 억제하는 멀티코드 시스템에 인접 심볼간 간섭을 줄여주는 하이브리드 DS/FH(frequency hopping) SS(spread-spectrum)기술을 접목하여 멀티코드 하이브리드 DS/FH SS 시스템을 고안하였고, 기존의 멀티펀드 시스템이 가지는 문제점을 해결하고자 sub-code 기술을 이용하여 sub-code멀티코드 하이브리드 DS/FS SS 시스템을 제안하였다. 제안한 시스템의 성능을 분석하고자 다양한 채널 환경 하에서 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 실시하였다.

딥러닝을 이용한 당뇨성황반부종 등급 분류의 정확도 개선을 위한 검증 데이터 증강 기법 (Validation Data Augmentation for Improving the Grading Accuracy of Diabetic Macular Edema using Deep Learning)

  • This paper proposed a method of validation data augmentation for improving the grading accuracy of diabetic macular edema (DME) using deep learning. The data augmentation technique is basically applied in order to secure diversity of data by transforming one image to several images through random translation, rotation, scaling and reflection in preparation of input data of the deep neural network (DNN). In this paper, we apply this technique in the validation process of the trained DNN, and improve the grading accuracy by combining the classification results of the augmented images. To verify the effectiveness, 1,200 retinal images of Messidor dataset was divided into training and validation data at the ratio 7:3. By applying random augmentation to 359 validation data, $1.61{\pm}0.55%$ accuracy improvement was achieved in the case of six times augmentation (N=6). This simple method has shown that the accuracy can be improved in the N range from 2 to 6 with the correlation coefficient of 0.5667. Therefore, it is expected to help improve the diagnostic accuracy of DME with the grading information provided by the proposed DNN.

Buckling of simply supported thin plate with variable thickness under bi-axial compression using perturbation technique

  • An analytical research on buckling of simply supported thin plate with variable thickness under bi-axial compression is presented in this paper. Combining the perturbation technique, Fourier series expansion and Galerkin methods, the linear governing differential equation of the plate with arbitrary thickness variation under bi-axial compression is solved and the analytical expression of the critical buckling load is obtained. Based on that, numerical analysis is carried out for the plates with different thickness variation forms and aspect ratios under different bi-axial compressions. Four different thickness variation forms including linear, parabolic, stepped and trigonometric have been considered in this paper. The calculated critical buckling loads and buckling modes are presented and compared with the published results in the tables and figures. It shows that the analytical expressions derived by the theoretical method in this paper can be effectively used for buckling analysis of simply supported thin plates with arbitrary thickness variation, especially for the stepped thickness that used in engineering widely.
