  • The stress state acting on mechanical parts and structures is generally mixed stress. This complex stress state, which is subject to changes in the environment, will produce many. Cars running on roads with different road conditions will subject the automotive parts to combined stress state. In the x direction and the y direction, a different amplitude and frequency of the fatigue load can be present. However, the load amplitude for Mode I and Mode II in a 2-axis fatigue test is limited to a constant ratio; the load frequency is always the same for any mode. In this paper, it is verified how the variation of the load frequency for mode II affects the behavior of fatigue crack propagation under mixed mode.

  • In this paper, buckling reliability analyses of stiffened cylinder with random initial geometric imperfection under axial impact load are performed by the combined response surface method. The effect of random geometric imperfection on the failure probability and reliability is recognized quantitatively. Buckling reliability decreases with the increase of mean value, cov of initial geometric imperfection under the same external load. Buckling probability under impact load is greater than those under static load with the same condition. From the probabilistic characteristics of imapct buckling load, relation between reliability index and safety parameter can be obtained in addition to the relation between load and reliability index. And those results can be used to determine the range of required safety parameter and acceptable imperfaction.

ENGINE CONTROL USING COMBUSTION MODEL

  • The combination of physical models of an advanced engine control system was proposed to obtain sophisticated combustion control in ultra-lean combustion, including homogeneous compression-ignition and activated radical combustion with a light load and in stoichiometric mixture combustion with a full load. Physical models of intake, combustion and engine thermodynamics were incorporated, in which the effects of residual gas from prior cycles on intake air mass and combustion were taken into consideration. The combined control of compression ignition at a light load and sparit ignition at full load for a high compession ratio engine was investigated using simulations. The control strategies of the variable valve timing and the intake pressure were clarified to keep auto-ignition at a light load and prevent knock at a full load.

Effect of implant- and occlusal load location on stress distribution in Locator attachments of mandibular overdenture. A finite element study

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the stress distribution in Locator attachments in mandibular two-implant overdentures according to implant locations and different loading conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four three-dimensional finite element models were created, simulating two osseointegrated implants in the mandible to support two Locator attachments and an overdenture. The models simulated an overdenture with implants located in the position of the level of lateral incisors, canines, second premolars, and crossed implant. A 150 N vertical unilateral and bilateral load was applied at different locations and 40 N was also applied when combined with anterior load at the midline. Data for von Mises stresses in the abutment (matrix) of the attachment and the plastic insert (patrix) of the attachment were produced numerically, color-coded, and compared between the models for attachments and loading conditions. RESULTS. Regardless of the load, the greatest stress values were recorded in the overdenture attachments with implants at lateral incisor locations. In all models and load conditions, the attachment abutment (matrix) withstood a much greater stress than the insert plastic (patrix). Regardless of the model, when a unilateral load was applied, the load side Locator attachments recorded a much higher stress compared to the contralateral side. However, with load bilateral posterior alone or combined at midline load, the stress distribution was more symmetrical. The stress is distributed primarily in the occlusal and lateral surface of the insert plastic patrix and threadless area of the abutment (matrix). CONCLUSION. The overdenture model with lateral incisor level implants is the worst design in terms of biomechanical environment for the attachment components. The bilateral load in general favors a more uniform stress distribution in both attachments compared to a much greater stress registered with unilateral load in the load side attachments. Regardless of the implant positions and the occlusal load application site, the stress transferred to the insert plastic is much lower than that registered in the abutment.

초기항타 및 재항타 동재하시험 결과를 조합한 매입말뚝의 하중-침하량 곡선 산정 (Estimation of Load-Settlement Curves of Embedded Piles Combining Results of End of Initial Driving and Restrike Dynamic Pile Tests)

  • 매입말뚝의 주면마찰력은 공벽에 주입되는 시멘트풀로 발휘되므로, 시멘트풀이 양생되기 이전에 수행되는 초기항타시험으로 매입말뚝의 주면마찰력을 평가할 수 없다. 또한, 재항타시험 시 항타에너지 부족으로 충분히 선단지지력이 발휘되지 않아 매입말뚝의 최종 지지력이 제대로 평가되지 않을 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 매입말뚝의 초기항타시험과 재항타시험의 결과를 조합하는 새로운 하중-침하량 곡선을 제안하고자 하였다. 현장에 시험말뚝을 매입말뚝공법으로 시공하였으며, 초기항타 및 재항타시험을 수행하고 동재하시험 결과에 대하여 CAPWAP(CAse Pile Wave Analysis Program) 분석을 수행하였다. 초기항타 시 선단 지지거동과 재항타 시 주면 지지거동을 조합한 말뚝 내 하중전이곡선을 가정하였으며, 하중-침하량 곡선을 새롭게 산정하였다. 또한 조합된 하중-침하량 곡선을 이용하여 시험말뚝의 지지력을 평가하였으며 이를 초기항타 및 재항타시험 결과와 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 조합된 하중-침하량 곡선으로 산정된 지지력은 항타에너지 부족으로 인한 지지력 과소평가를 극복할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 가정된 하중전이곡선은 초기항타 및 재항타시험 결과와 비교했을 때 매입말뚝의 지지거동에 더 가까우므로, 조합된 하중-침하량 곡선을 이용함으로써 정재하시험 결과와 더 유사한 지지력을 산정할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 따라서, 본 연구에서 제안한 조합된 하중-침하량 곡선을 사용함으로써 매입말뚝의 동재하시험 시 지지력을 효과적으로 평가할 수 있다.

비대칭 원주방향 관통균열 배관의 탄소성 J-적분 계산식 (Elastic-Plastic J Estimations for Pipes with Off-Centred Circumferential Through-Wall Cracks)

  • This paper provides approximate J estimates for off-centred, circumferential through-wall cracks in cylinders under bending and under combined tension and bending. The proposed method is based on the reference stress approach, where the dependence of elastic and plastic influence functions of J on the cylinder/crack geometry, the off-centred angle and strain hardening is minimised through the use of a proper normalising load. Based on published limited FE results for off-centred, circumferential through-wall cracks under bending, such normalising load is found, based on which the reference stress based J estimates are proposed for more general cases, such as for a different cylinder geometry and for combined loading. Comparison of the estimated J with extensive FE J results shows overall good agreements for different crack/cylinder geometries and for combined tension and bending, which provides sufficient confidence in the use of the proposed method to fracture mechanics analyses of off-centred circumferential cracks. Furthermore, the proposed method is simple to use, giving significant merits in practice.

조합하중을 받는 일정체적 캔틸레버 기둥의 정확탄성곡선 (Elastica of Cantilever Column with Constant Volume Subjected to Combined Loads)

  • 이 논문은 일정체적 캔틸레버 기둥의 정확탄성곡선(elastica)에 관한 연구이다. 기둥의 자유단에 압축하중과 모멘트 하중으로 구성되는 조합하중이 작용하는 캔틸레버 기둥의 정확탄성곡선을 지배하는 비선형 미분방정식과 경계조건을 유도하였다. 미분방정식에는 전단변형효과를 고려하였다. 기둥의 변단면으로는 정다각형 단면을 갖는 선형, 포물선형 및 정현의 변단면을 채택하였다. 기둥의 정확탄성곡선을 해석하기 위하여 유도된 미분방정식을 수치해석하였다. 수치해석의 결과를 이용하여 기둥의 무차원 변수들이 정확탄성곡선에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 실험실 규모의 실험을 실시하여 이 연구에서 얻어진 수치해석의 결과를 검증하였다.

Bearing capacity of shallow footing under combined loading

  • The paper deals with two bearing capacity problems of shallow footing under combined loading. The first is a FEM study of shallow strip footing on two-layer clay deposits subjected to a vertical, horizontal and moment combined loading, while the second is a centrifuge study of shallow rectangular footing on dry sand under double eccentricity. The FEM results revealed that the existence of top soft layer sensitively affects more on horizontal and moment capacity than vertical capacity for cases of footing on soft clay overlying stiff clay. Practical design charts are presented to evaluate bearing capacities of footing for various combinations of the ratio of the depth of the upper layer to the footing width and the ratio of undrained strength of the upper layer to that of the lower. The centrifuge tests indicated that current design practice of calculating failure load of rectangular surface footing under double eccentricity underestimates the centrifuge loading test data. This trend is more marked when the eccentricity becomes larger. The decreasing trend in failure load with an increase of double eccentricity is rather uniquely expressed by a single curve, using a newly defined resultant eccentricity and the diagonal length of the footing base.

무강우시 합류식 하수관거의 오염부하 특성 (Characteristics of Pollution Loads from the Combined Sewer during Dry Season)

  • We have examined the pollutant load of combined sewer in dry days. Two monitoring sites (C-1, C-2) were equipped with an flowmeter. Monitoring was conducted from September 2004 to April 2006 for 20 months during dry days. Flowrate and concentration of pollutants are lowest from 3 to 6 o'clock, and it is high at 9, 12 and 21 o'clock. Most of organic matters exist in the dissolved state. The results show that pollution loads in C-2 area were 4.5-7.2 times higher than in C-1. Pollutant loads were high on Saturdays. Pollutant loads (kg/ha/day) of C-2 were 1.1-3.1 times higher those of C-1. However there was no significant difference in winter. Analysis of correlation coefficient of water quality parameter indicates that besides of flowrate all items in C-1 site have tight relationship respectively (p<0.01). In C-2 site, correlation coefficient of TP-SS, TP-TN, TP-flowrate, BOD-flowrate, BOD-SS and TN-TP are statistically significant (p<0.01).

  • 최근 효율을 높이기 위한 플랜드의 환경이 고온, 고압으로 변화함에 따라 열하중과 기계하중을 동시에 반영한 균열 평가는 플랜트의 건전성을 위하여 반드시 필요하다. C(t)-적분은 고온 균열 평가에 있어서 천이 크리프 상태의 균열을 평가하는 중요한 요소이다. 열하중과 기계하중이 동시에 작용하는 환경에서의 C(t)-적분을 예측하는 것은 복잡하며 하중조건이 달라지는 경우에는 더욱더 복잡해진다. 본 논문에서는 열하중과 기계하중의 하중조건이 달라지는 여러 조건에 대한 C(t)-적분 평가식을 제시하였다.
