  • The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of cavity designs on the marginal leakage of class 5 glass ionomer restorations. The five cavity designs were as follows ; notch shape(A group), notch shape with groove(B group), combined lesion(C group), combined lesion with groove and deep chamfer margin(D group) and combined lesion with groove and shoulder(E group), and each design had 10 cavities. After the cavities were restored with GIC, they were immersed in 0.5% basic fuchsin solution for 6 hours. The specimens were washed thoroughly and sectioned longitudinally in a buccolingual direction through the center of the restorations. The degree of marginal leakage was measured as the extent of dye penetration under the stereoscope. The results of this study were as follows 1. The enamel margins of all groups showed lesser leakage than dentin/cementum margins(p<0.05). 2. The combined lesion(C group) showed more leakage than notch shape(A group), but there was no siginificant difference(p>0.05). 3. In the notch shape, there was no influence on the marginal leakage by the groove preparation. 4. In the combined lesion, marginal leakage was decreased by the groove preparation and marginal modification.

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the physical strength through the application of the recreation combined exercise program for elderly women. The subjects of this study were consisted of 20 elderly women were 75 year ~ 88 year. The recreation combined exercise program was executed 50 minute a day, 3times a week for 8 weeks. The result was significantly improved in terms of the grip strength, sit to stand, timed up & go, one leg with eyes opened, sit and reach, 4.6meter fast walking speed. Therefore, recreation combined exercise program expect that it was helpful for the elderly women in terms of physical strength.

  • Purpose: This study aims to compare the effects of obstacle walking training combined with cognitive tasks on balance, gait, and activities of daily living in patients with stroke. Methods: A single-subject design was used, where one stroke patient participated. Obstacle walking training combined with cognitive tasks was performed for 1 hour per day for a total of 10 times during the intervention phase. The subjects were measured five times in the baseline phase, 10 times in the intervention phase, and five times in the follow-up phase. The outcome measurements included the Berg balance scale (BBS), the 10-meter walk test (10 MWT), and the Korean modified Barthel index (K-MBI). Results: In this study, the results showed that the 10 MWT scores during the intervention period improved and that this improvement remained, even during the post-period. In addition, BBS and K-MBI values for stroke patients increased significantly after training. Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that obstacle walking training combined with cognitive task training may be helpful to improve balance, gait, and activities of daily living in stroke patients. Therefore, obstacle walking training combined with cognitive tasks is recommended for stroke patients.

  • The analysis of the free vibrations of a circular cylindrical shell with a logitudinal, interior rectangular plate is performed. The natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the combined shells are experimentally obtained by impact testing using an impact hammer and an accelerometer. The effects of the position of the plate on the frequencies and mode shapes of the combined system are examined. The experimental results are compared with a finite element analysis and show good agreement.

  • Xylazine and ketamine hydrochloride were given intramusculary to 32 deers (sika deer 7, red deer 11, elk 6, pere david deer 3, and reindeer 5). Ketamine hydrochloride was injected 30 minutes after administration of xylazine. Sedative action of combined anesthesia of xylazine and ketamine hydrochloride was similar to the sedative effects of xylazine alone. The recovery from sedation of combined anesthesia was remarkably fast comparing with xylazine alone.

  • Discharged pollution load for the management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) is calculated on the basis of rainfall data for reference year. Rainfall has an influence on discharged pollution load in unit watershed with combined sewer system. This study reviewed the status of discharged pollution load and rainfall conditions. We also investigated rainfall effects on discharged pollution load by analyzing change of the load in accordance with increase of rainfall. The change ratio of discharged pollution load was 18.6% while inflow load only 5.8% for 5 years from 2004 to 2008 in Daejeon district. The greatest rainfall and rain days were over 2 times than the least during the period. This change in rainfall could have great effect on discharged pollution load. The analysis showed that discharged pollution load increased 2.1 times in case rainfall increased 2 times and 1.2 times in case rain days increased 2 times. Rainfall effects, therefore, should be considered to make resonable evaluation of discharged pollution load in the assessment of annual performances.

  • Effects of benzoate (0~0.6 g/$\ell$ ) and sorbate (0~2.0 g/$\ell$) on the growth of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in tryptic soy broth at various pH levels (4~8) and temperatures (4$^{\circ}C$, 37$^{\circ}C$) were investigated. Benzoate and sorbate were inhibited the growth of E. coli O157:H7 up to 12 hours cultivation at 4$^{\circ}C$, and 2.0 g/$\ell$ sorbate was only inhibited during 48 hours cultivation at 37$^{\circ}C$. Among the pH levels tested, pH 4 showed significant inhibitory effect against the E. coli O157:H7 on 4$^{\circ}C$ and at 37$^{\circ}C$, respectively. When used in combination 0.2 g/$\ell$ benzoate and sorbate were completely inhibited the growth of E. coli O157:H7 on pH 4 and at 37$^{\circ}C$. While on pH 5 at 4$^{\circ}C$, all of the concentration tested did not exert any inhibitory effect. The combined effects were retarded more than single treatment of E. coli O157:H7.

  • Backgound: The present study was undertaken to determine whether fentanyl or bupivacaine is a better adjuvant to epidural morphine with respect to postoperative analgesic use and with fewer incidence of side effects. Methods: We evaluated the clinical effects in 62 patients having cesarean section, divided in 3groups randomly. Group I(n=19) was received epidural morphine 4 mg, group II(n=22) was received epidural morphine 2 mg plus fentanyl 50 ${\mu}g$ and group III(n=21) was received morphine 2 mg plus 0.25% bupivacaine 10 ml epidurally. We measured the first request time of analgesic for postoperative pain, the number of supplemental analgesics within 24 hours and the incidence of side effects postoperatively. Results: The first request time of analgesic for postoperative pain was significantly shorter in group III than in group I and II. The analgesic use in the first 24 hours was significantly more in group III than in group I and II. The side effects were significantly fewer incidence in group II than in group I and III. Conclusions: In conclusion, the combined use of epidural morphine and fentanyl provided better analgesia than the combined of epidural morphine and bupivacaine.
