Objectives : Charcot neuroarthropathy(CN) is condition characterized by a progressive joint deformation with sensorial and autonomic neuropathy. This study is to report a case of CN improved by Korean medical treatment. Methods : The patient's left foot with CN was treated by Shudihuangkushen-tang, Haifu-san wet dressing, acupuncture and herbal acupuncture. We evaluated the progress by laboratory investigation, radiograph and photograph comparison, visual analogue scale(VAS) of edema and pain sensation. Results : After treatment, VAS score of edema dropped from 6 to 1, of pain sensation slightly improved from 0 to 1. Average blood sugar level decreased and rebounded, but Hemoglobin A1c level improved from 9.5% to 7.7%. Improvement of the left foot was recognized from the radiograph and photograph comparison. Conclusions : This study suggests Korean medicine is effective in treating CN, especially using Shudihuangkushen-tang, Haifu-san wet dressing.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to review the overseas clinical study trends on Chinese Medicine treatment for Pre-eclampsia. Methods: We searched articles published from Pubmed, Embase and CNKI. The period was set from 2004 to 2023. Searched keywords were "Pre-eclampsia", "Preeclampsia", "Chinese medicine", "Herbal medicine", "子癎前期", "子癎前症", "中藥", "中醫". Results: 21 articles were finally selected. There were 16 RCTs, 3 case control studies, 2 case series. 2 articles used both acupuncture and western medicine, 19 articles used both herbal medicine and western medicine. 風池 (GB20), 太衝 (LR3), 足三里 (ST36) were the most frequently used acupoints, Paeoniae Radix alba (白芍藥) is the most frequently used in herbal medicine treatment. Conclusions: Our review found that chinese medicine combined with western medicine is more effective for alleviating symptoms of pre-eclampsia.

This study was to investigate the effectiveness of combined Korean medicine treatment on a patient who was diagnosed on lumbosacral transitional vertebra (LSTV) with localized bone marrow edema. The patient was treated with acupuncture, pharmacopucture, cupping and herbal medicine. We evaluated patient's progress using range of motion (ROM), EuroQol-5 dimensions (EQ-5D), Oswestry disability index (ODI), numerical rating scale (NRS), patient global impression of change, self-walkable distance. NRS of back pain decreased from 7 to 5, at the same time NRS of lower limb decreased from 4 to 3. EQ-5D score increased from 0.24 to 0.646. ODI score improved 80 to 62. Self-walkable distance and lumbar spine ROM also increased. As a result, clinical improvements were found in a patient. In conclusion, this study shows that Korean medicine treatment can be considered as effective conservative care for LSTV with localized bone marrow edema.

According to the North Korean documents , North Korean government have emphasized the development of the Koryo medicine (traditional korean medicine) and encouraged the combination of the Koryo and the modern medicine. It is regarded that this attitude arose from the ruler's will toward independency in the medical field and at the same time the lack of modern medical resources . Combinations of the Koryo medicine and the modern medicine in the clinical textbooks are classified as follows: first, mixed medication of the Koryo and the modern medicine. Second, combination of the traditional acupuncture(or moxibustion) and the medication of modern medicines. Third, injection of modern medicines at acupoints. Forth, an intramuscular or an intravenous injection of the Koryo medicine. Fifth, anesthesia using Koryo medicine. Sixth, simple surgery at the acupoints. Lastly, combination of injection and the traditional therapy(eg. acupuncture, moxibustion and cupping) Despite of many achievements in the field of combined medical treatment, recent economic failure and severe famine for several years caused collapse of the health care delivery system in North Korea, and it is hard to find combined practices actually.

울산광역시 동구 보건소 협력 사업으로 한 2014년도 한방 난임 치료 1증례를 포함한 6증례중에서 난임의 치료방법으로 4증례는 FCST의 편차수정, 음양균형장치를 포함한 PBT, 침 치료, 부항, 뜸, 한약 등의 복합치료로 전신 증상의 개선 및 감소에 현저한 치료효과가 나타남을 관찰하였다. 2증례는 음양균형장치와 PBT는 제외되었다. 또한 그 결과로 6증례 모두 자연 임신에 성공하여 출산하였고 출산한 아기들도 건강한 상태임을 확인하였다.

Objectives : This study was undertaken to determine if a combined(SPe) has a protective effect against functional failure induced by $CCl_4$ in rat liver. Methods : Acute liver injury which initiated from free radical induced by $CCl_4$, were applied to rats and data were obtained. Liver injury was estimated by measuring aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) activity in serum. Lipid peroxidation was examined by measuring malondialdehyde, a product of lipid peroxidation. GSH activities in liver tissues were also measured. Results : When rats were treated intraperitoneally with $CCl_4$, serum AST and ALT were increased compared with the control, which was significantly inhibited by pretreatment of SPe. SPe also prevented reduction in GSH induced by $CCl_4$. Conclusion : Above results suggest that SPe exerts protective effect against $CCl_4$ by its antioxidant action in liver tissues. Thus, SPe may be used in prevention and treatment of drug-induced liver cell injury. However, the precise mechanisms of SPe protection remain to be determined.

Objective: This study reports the effectiveness of the Korean medicine treatment of patients with intracerebral and intraventricular hemorrhages suffering unilateral neglect symptoms. Case presentation: The patient was treated using Korean medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, and a limb activation exercise. We measured Unilateral Neglect Symptom progress with a numeric rating scale, Albert's test, Line bisection test, Clock drawing test, and Catherine Bergego Scale. After eight days of combined Korean medicine and rehabilitation exercise, the Unilateral Neglect Symptom intensity reduced from NRS 8 to 6. In addition, Albert's test score decreased from 2.5% to 0%. The Line bisection test score decreased from 19 mm to 12 mm, and the Clock drawing test score improved from 8 to 10. Last, the Catherine Bergego Scale decreased from 12 to 9. No adverse events were observed during treatment. Conclusion: This study suggested that a complex treatment including Jaeumkunbi-tang, acupuncture, moxibustion, and limb activation exercise can be effective for an intracerebral hemorrhage with intraventricular hemorrhage patient suffering from Unilateral Neglect Symptoms. Consequently, more research is needed in the future.

Objective: This study was performed to report the effect of traditional Korean medicine as a treatment for laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) combined with depressive and anxiety disorder. Methods: We treated this patient with traditional Korean medicine and measured symptom severity using the reflux symptom index (RSI), Beck depression inventory (BDI), and Beck anxiety inventory (BAI). Results: After 3 weeks of treatment, most symptoms had decreased. The RSI score dropped from 21 to 8, BDI from 27 to 14, and BAI from 29 to 15. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medicine may be effective as a treatment for LPR combined with depressive and anxiety disorder, and a correlation may exist between LPR and psychological factors. However, more rigorous studies are required to identify exactly what treatment is most efficient for relieving LPR combined with depressive and anxiety disorder and whether LPR and psychological factors are clearly correlated.

폐경기 복부비만 환자 2명에게 2주 이내에 총 5회의 온열요법을 결합한 산삼비만약침 치료를 시행한 결과, 복부둘레의 감소를 확인할 수 있었다.
