사슴에서의 Xylazine Hydrochloride 와 Ketamine Hydrochloride 의 진정효과(鎭靜效果) (Evaluation of Xylazine and Ketamine Hydrochloride for Sedation in Deers)

  • Xylazine and ketamine hydrochloride were given intramusculary to 32 deers (sika deer 7, red deer 11, elk 6, pere david deer 3, and reindeer 5). Ketamine hydrochloride was injected 30 minutes after administration of xylazine. Sedative action of combined anesthesia of xylazine and ketamine hydrochloride was similar to the sedative effects of xylazine alone. The recovery from sedation of combined anesthesia was remarkably fast comparing with xylazine alone.

  • Mood disorder is a medical illness resulting from the disorder of CNS neurotransmission and its principal therapeutic tool is pharmacotherapy. Psychotherapeutic drugs for mood disorder have some clinical limitations which are due to no or partial response, decreased compliance for drug by the side effects, and delayed therapeutic effects. So, general hope of all clinicians that mood diorder will respond to a single psychotherapeutic agent may be the exception rather than the rule. Recently, combined drug treatments have become increasingly popular to overcome the clinical limitations of individual agent in mood disorder. Combined treatments are usually used for augmenting or initiating rapidly the effect of drug, and for treating different target symptoms or drug side effects. When combined treatments being tried, knowledge of the action mechanism, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics is crucial to cope with the possible adverse reactions of drugs.

적출관류 토끼 신장기능에서 칼슘의 역할 (Role of Calcium in Function of Isolated Perfused Rabbit Kidney)

  • 저자는 적출관류 토끼 신장기능에서 칼슘의 역할과 furosemide의 이뇨작용에 미치는 영향을 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. hydralazine놔 verapamil을 주로 신혈관 저항의 감소로 이뇨작용을 나타냈다. furosemide를 hydralazine 또는 verapamil 병합투여시 뚜렷한 이뇨작용이 나타났으며 두군 사이에 차이는 없었다. quinidine은 신혈관 수축을 일으켰으나 이뇨작용이 나타났으며 furosemide의 이뇨작용을 항진시켰다. 칼슘제외된 관류액으로 관류시 칼슘은 신혈관 수축에도 불구하고 이뇨작용이 나타났으며 furosemide의 이뇨작용을 항진시켰다. quinidine은 칼슘이 제외된 상태에서 신장기능 및 furosemide의 이뇨작용에 영향을 미 치지 못하였으나 calcium 병합투여시 과도한 신혈관 수축으로 항 이뇨작용을 보였다. verapamil은 칼슘이 제외된 상태에서 약간의 이뇨작용을 보였지만 칼슘 및 furosemide의 이뇨작용을 변화시키지 못하였다. 이상의 성적은 적출관류 토끼 신장에서 칼슘, verapamil 및quinidine이 이뇨작용이 있으며 칼슘은 furosemide의 이뇨작용을 항진시킨다.

사향소합원 및 우황포룡환의 약효 연구 (Pharmacological Actions of the Combined Preparations, 'Sahyangsohap-won' and 'Woohwangporyong-hwan')

  • The combined preparations of the traditional Korean prescriptions, Sahyangsohap-won (A1) and Woohwangporyong-hwan (B1) were evaluated on pharmacological actions in rats and mice, in parallel with the preparations of their modified prescriptions (A2 and B2). The acute toxicities of the four preparations were very low of which $LD_{50}$ values were more than 4g/kg, p.o. and no systematic symptoms were found at the doses. All the preparations showed sedative action by prolongation of sleeping time induced with hexobarbital sodium. The action was more potent in the modified preparations than in the original ones. All the preparations had no anticonvulsant action both in chemoshock seizures induced by pentetrazole and strychnine and in electroshock seizure. In rat fundus preparation, A1 and A2 elicited strong contraction at the concentration of $1{\times}10^{-3}\;g/ml$ in bath, whereas B1 and B2 did neither contraction nor relaxation at the same concentration. The four preparations had no inhibitory effect against acetylcholine induced spasm. In rat intestinal preparation, the four preparations exhibited neither contraction nor relaxation. However, A1 and A2 had antagonistic effect against spasm at the concentration of $1{\times}10^{-3}\;g/ml$. Single administration of each preparation at the dose of 0.24g/kg, p.o. stimulated the secretion of pepsin in rat stomach without inciting the secretion of gastric juice. Their stimulating actions were more marked in B1 and B2 than in A1 and A2, and were more promptly exhibited in the modified preparations (A2 and B2). Accelerating action of bile secretion by single administration of each preparation was found at the dose of 0.24g/kg, p.o. in rats. All the preparations except A2 also stimulated the secretion of bile acid.

Benzo(a)pyrene의 돌연변이원성에 대한 유기게르마늄(GE-132)의 항돌연변이 효과 (Antimutagenic Effect of Organic Germanium(GE-132) on the Mutagenicity of Benzo(a)pyrene)

  • This study was initiated to investigate the effective action and mechanism of GE-132 (Carboxyethylgermanium sesquioxide)on benzo(a)pyrene, which have strong carcinogenicity and mutagenicity. To confirm desmutagenic effect (inhibition of metabolic processes of benzo(a)pyrene with S9 Mix or inactivation of the mutagenicity of benzo(a)pyrene metabolites) and antimutagenic effect (inhibition of gene-expression of reverted genes) of GE-132 against benzo(a)pyrene using with Salmonella typhimuyium TA98 Ames test was performed. The revertants in desmutagenicity test were decreased significantly in the combined groups of benzo(a)pyrene and GE-132 than benzo(a)pyrene only, without inhibition the metabolism of benzo(a)pyrene by S9 Mix. The ideal combined groups of benzo(a)pyrene and GE-132 were 10 $\mu{M}$ and 10mg, 20 $\mu{M}$ and 20mg, 100 $\mu{M}$ and 30 mg, respectively. Then, the revertants in antimutagenicity test, which was studied the direct action of GE-132 on the induction of revertant cells by Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and activated benzo(a)pyrene were decreased significantly in the treated groups of GE-132 than no treated groups. The number of revertants of Salmonella typhimurium TA98 were reduced with increasing amounts of GE-132. From the above results, it was found that GE-132 inactivated the mutagenic metabolites of benzo(a)pyrene without inhibition of the enzyme action in the S9 Mix, and GE132 showed antimutagenic effect which have inhibitory action of reverted gene expression.

동반이환된 특발성 수근관증후군과 족근관증후군의 전기생리학적 특징 (Electrophysiologic Characteristics of Combined Idiopathic Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome)

  • Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) are thought to share a similar pathophysiology, compression of the median and plantar nerve by the carpal tunnel and flexor retinaculum. A few reports introduced the relationship between idiopathic CTS and TTS without definite evidence of coexistence. The current study was designed to analyze the electrophysiologic characteristics of combined idiopathic CTS and TTS by comparing with each idiopathic CTS or TTS. Methods: We retrospectively collected patients with combined idiopathic CTS and TTS (CTS-TTS group) from June 2001 to February 2009. Patients with each idiopathic CTS or TTS were collected as controls. Electrophysiologic data of median and plantar nerves were compared between CTS-TTS group and controls. Results: CTS-TTS group was composed of 31 patients. Control group of each CTS or TTS were 50 CTS and 49 TTS patients. In comparison of median nerve conduction study between CTS-TTS group and CTS control group, decreased compound muscle action potential amplitude (p<0.001), decreased median sensory nerve action potential amplitude (p<0.001) and sensory nerve conduction velocity at finger stimulation (p=0.013) were prominent in CTS-TTS group. Decreased medial plantar sensory nerve action potential amplitude (p=0.034) was indicated when CTS-TTS groups and TTS control group were compared. Conclusions: If the electrophysiology study of patients with CTS or TTS was suggestive of severe degree of nerve injury, concerns about the possibility of combined CTS and TTS would be helpful.

  • 구조역학에 기초한 보의 종방향 휨모멘트변화율과 전단력의 관계와 본 연구자가 이전에 발표한 아취모델을 이용하여 복부보강이 안된 철근콘크리트 보의 전단강도 예측식을 제안하였다. 이론적으로 유도된 본 연구의 전단강도식은 주로 실험결과에 기초한 ACI 318 전단강도식과 비슷한 형태이다. 본 연구에서 제안한 식은 콘크리트 압축강도, 주인장철근비 및 전단지간대 유효높이의 비가 주변수이며, 보작용과 아취작용의 조합에 의한 철근콘크리트 보의 전단저항메카니즘이 합리적으로 반영되어 있다. 본 연구에서 제안한 전단강도식은 ACI 318 전단강도식 및 Zsutty의 전단강도식과 함께 기존의 실험결과와 비교되었다.

생약복합제제(生藥複合製劑)의 약효연구(藥效硏究) (제15보)(第15報) -사물안신탕(四物安神湯)이 중추신경계(中樞神經系) 및 적출장관(摘出腸管)에 미치는 영향(影響)- (Studies on the Efficacy of Combined Preparation of Crude Drugs (XV). -Effects of 'Samulanshin-Tang' on the Central Nervous System and Isolated Ileum-)

  • Although the 'Samulanshin-Tang' has been widely used in clinical purposes in the -oriental medicine, its clinical efficacy is only documented for the case of palpitation in the Oriental medical reference. The present experiments were undertaken to investigate the clinical efficacy of 'Samulanshin-Tang' comparing effects with animal experiments and to validate its oriental medicine description. Following results were obtained; 1)Suppressive action was shown on convulsion due to cerebrocortical and diencephalic causes in Fraction I and II, but no such action was noted myelic causes in mice. 2)Sedative, analgesic and antipyretic actions were noted by Fraction III. 3)Relaxing action was shown on the isolated ileum in mice and antagonistic action was seen on acetylcholine and $BaCl_2$-induced contractions of the ilem that the direct action of the intestinal smooth muscle was recognized in mice and rats.

  • In order to investigate experimentally the clinical effects of Chungsimjeongchun-Tang that have been widely used for cardiac asthma, dyspnea and coughs secondary to the appoplexy and cardiac diseases, the water extract of Chungsimjeongchun-Tang was conducted to the effects on the anti-histamine action and respiratory system in mice, guinea-pigs, rabbits and cats. The following results of Chungsimieongchun-Tang were obtained. Spontaneous motility of the isolated ileum of mice and rabbits was strongly suppressed and contractions of the isolated ileum of mice and guinea-pigs induced by acetylcholine chloride, barium chloride and histamine were remarkably inhibited. Anti-histamine action was noted. Antitussive action on the mechanically irritative cough in cats was recognized. Expectorant action on the leakage of dye in the respiratory tract of rabbits was also shown.

화분세포생장과 파열에 미치는 붕소, 석탄 그리고 자당의 상호작용에 관하여 (On the mutual action of boron, calcium and sucrose in pollen cell growth and pollen bursting)

  • The mutual relationships of boron, Ca and sucrose were studied in relation to in vitro pollen growth and pollen bursting, by using conventient pollen from Crinum asiaticum for experiment. Crinum pollen are paticularly sensitive to Ca. Addition of very small amount of boron to cultural media was apparently synergistic to the action of sucrose and Ca in pollen germination and tube elongation. This action was extended to a higher level of boron concentraton. Combined application of boron, Ca and sucrose always gave the better results in pollen growth and protection against pollen bursting much more than when used singly. This indicated that there is a direct relationship between better growth of pollen and increased rigidity of pollen cell wall. A higher level of Ca concentration tended to increase bursting rate of pollen grains and decrease that of pollen tubes, while boron always depressed the rate of bursting. This was considered due to increased failure in pollen germination at high level of Ca that favors pollen tube elongation. The fact that Ca show an antagonistic effect on the suppressive action of high level of boron in pollen growth and shows different effect in response to pollen bursting from boron, suggested mode of Ca and boron action in the presence of sucrose is quiate different, although to increase in rigidity of pollen cell wall by them is in common nature. It was postulated therefore that Ca acts on pectins of pollen cell wall largely as "non-metabolic" and boron as "metabolic" promoter is pollen growth and protecting pollen bursting, since boron and Ca have common nature in strengthening the pollen cell wall but act differently.but act differently.
