This paper describes the numerical analysis techniques using the Combined Integration/Matrix Method to calculate ground potential rise which can be occurred in the various grounding systems. Combined Integration/Matrix Method is used to reduce the error and computation time with the analytical integration equation and the proper segmentaion of earth embedded conductor. To do it, optimal segmentaion method for the buried conductors is presented through error analysis which is capable of applying the practical scaled various grounding systems. The optimum length of segmented element is much co-related with the buried depth of grounding electrode and the maximum length of buried electrode. As a result, less 3 precent errors was obtained by proposed model. The proposed model is applied to verify an effect of multi-grounding problems which was aroused much controversy with separated or common grounding between the high power grounding system and low power grounding system such as signal and telecommunication grounding.
An improved finite element-transfer matrix method is applied to the transient analysis of plates with large displacement under various excitations. In the present method, the transfer of state vectors from left to right in a combined finite element-transfer matrix method is changed into the transfer of generally incremental stiffness equations of every section from left to right. Furthermore, in this method, the propagation of round-off errors occurring in recursive multiplications of transfer and point matrices is avoided. The Newmark-${\beta}$ method is employed for time integration and the modified Newton-Raphson method for equilibrium iteration in each time step. An ITNONDL-W program based on this method using the IBM-PC/AT microcomputer is developed. Finally numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy as well as the potential of the proposed method for dynamic large deflection analysis of plates with random boundaries under various excitations.
In this study, a numerical procedure based on the finite element method for materially and geometrically nonlinear analysis of reinforced and prestressed concrete slender columns with arbitrary section subjected to combined biaxial bending and axial load is developed. In order to overcome the low computer efficiency of the conventional section integration method in which the reinforced concrete section is divided into a large number of small areas, an efficient section integration method is used to determine the section tangent stiffness. In this method, the arbitrary shaped cross section is divided into several concrete trapezoids according to boundary vertices, and the contribution of each trapezoid to section stiffness is determined by integrating directly the trapezoid. The space frame flexural theory is utilized to derive the element tangent stiffness matrix. The nonlinear full-range member response is traced by an updated normal plane arc-length solution method. The analytical results agree well with the experimental ones.
The dynamic behavior of crankshaft-bearing system in scroll compressor has been investigated using the combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The finite element formulation is proposed including the field element for a shaft section and the point element at balancer weight locations, bearing locations, etc., whereas the conventional method is used with the elements. The Houbolt method is used to consider the time march for the integration of the system equations. The linear stiffness and damping coefficients are calculated for a finite cylindrical fluid-film bearing by solving the Reynolds equation, using finite difference method. The orbital response of crankshaft supported on the linear bearing model is obtained, considering balancer weights of motor rotor. And, the steady state displacement of crankshaft are compared with a variation in balancer weight. The loci of crankshaft at bearing locations are composed of the synchronous whirl component and the non-synchronous whirl component.

The theoretical backgrounds of the several methods were surveyed and reviewed to fin out the adequate one to determine equivalent modal damping values in solving the dynamic problem of soil-structure interaction by mode superposition method. Furthermore the rigorous damping matrix of equation of motion was obtained through component mode synthesis technique and used in direct integration of the equation. The analytical results by direct integration method were compared with those of mode superposition approach using the various sets of equivalent modal damping values calculated by the methods to be reviewed. Two types of superstructures and four kinds of subsurface conditions were considered and combined to make soil-structure coupled models. It was realized that dissipating energy method gives the equivalent modal damping values which lead the most similar results to direct integration ones. In case of fixed base, the responses of all methods except stiffness weighted approach are almost equal to those of direct integration method.

The purpose of this paper deals with direct multiple-shooting method (DMS) to resolve helicopter maneuver problems of helicopters. The maneuver problem is transformed into nonlinear problems and solved DMS technique. The DMS method is easy in handling constraints and it has large convergence radius compared to other strategies. When parameterized with piecewise constant controls, the problems become most effectively tractable because the search direction is easily estimated by solving the structured Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) system. However, generally the computation of function, gradients and Hessian matrices has considerably time-consuming for complex system such as helicopter. This study focused on the approximation of the KKT system using the matrix exponential and its integrals. The propose method is validated by solving optimal control problems for the linear system where the KKT system is exactly expressed with the matrix exponential and its integrals. The trajectory tracking problem of various maneuvers like bob up, sidestep near hovering flight speed and hurdle hop, slalom, transient turn, acceleration and deceleration are analyzed to investigate the effects of algorithmic details. The results show the matrix exponential approach to compute gradients and the Hessian matrix is most efficient among the implemented methods when combined with the mixed time integration method for the system dynamics. The analyses with the proposed method show good convergence and capability of tracking the prescribed trajectory. Therefore, it can be used to solve critical areas of helicopter flight dynamic problems.

This paper presents an analytical solution for correctly predicting the Lateral-Torsional Buckling critical moment of simply supported castellated beams, the solution covers uniformly distributed loads combined with compressive loads. For this purpose, the castellated beam section with hexagonal-type perforation is treated as an arrangement of double "T" sections, composed of an upper T section and a lower T section. The castellated beam with regular openings is considered as a periodic repeating structure of unit cells. According to the kinematic model, the energy principle is applied in the context of geometric nonlinearity and the linear elastic behavior of materials. The differential equilibrium equations are established using Galerkin's method and the tangential stiffness matrix is calculated to determine the critical lateral torsional buckling loads. A Finite Element simulation using ABAQUS software is performed to verify the accuracy of the suggested analytical solution, each castellated beam is modelled with appropriate sizes meshes by thin shell elements S8R, the chosen element has 8 nodes and six degrees of freedom per node, including five integration points through the thickness, the Lanczos eigen-solver of ABAQUS was used to conduct elastic buckling analysis. It has been demonstrated that the proposed analytical solution results are in good agreement with those of the finite element method. A parametric study involving geometric and mechanical parameters is carried out, the intensity of the compressive load is also included. In comparison with the linear solution, it has been found that the linear stability underestimates the lateral buckling resistance. It has been confirmed that when high axial loads are applied, an impressive reduction in critical loads has been observed. It can be concluded that the obtained analytical solution is efficient and simple, and offers a rapid and direct method for estimating the lateral torsional buckling critical moment of simply supported castellated beams.
The dynamic behavior of rotor-bearing system used in swash plate compressor has been investigated using the combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The finite element is formulated including the field element for a shaft section and the point element for swash plate, disk pulley and bearings. The Houbolt method is used to consider the time march for the integration of the system equations. The transient whirl response of rotating shaft supported on roller bearings is obtained, considering compression forces and unbalance forces at swash plate and driving pulley. And, the steady state displacements of the rotor are compared with a variation in unbalance mass. Results show that the loci of rotating shaft considering unbalance forces and external compression forces are more severe in flutter motion than with only unbalance forces.

In this study, a new 4-node general shell element with 6 DOFs per node is presented. Drilling rotational degrees of freedom are introduced by the variational principle with an independent rotation field. In formulation of the element, substitute transverse shear strain fields are used to avoid shear locking, while four nonconforming modes are applied in the in-plane displacement fields as a remedy for membrane locking. In addition, a direct modification method for nonconforming modes is employed in the numerical implementation of nonconforming modes to represent constant strain states. A 9-points integration rule is adopted for volume integration in the computation of the element stiffness matrix. With the combined use of these techniques, the developed shell element has no spurious zero energy modes, and can represent a constant strain state. Several numerical tests are carried out to evaluate the performance of the new element developed. The test results show that the behavior of the elements is satisfactory.

An efficient method for determining forced responses of a general linear structural system in time domain using subtructure modes and Lagrange multipliers is presented. Compared with the conventional mode synthesis methods, the suggested method does not construct the equations of motion of the combined whole structure and thus the modal parameters of the whole structure are not required. Only modal parameters of each substructure and geometric compatibility conditions are needed. Both the loaded interface free-free modes and free interface modes can be employed as the modal bases of each substructure. Recurrence discrete-time state equations based upon state transition matrix are formulated for the transient analysis of a parameter-changing system. It is shown form numerical examples that the suggested method is very accurate and efficient to calculate transient responses compares with the direct numerical integration method.
