  • In this paper a method of designing FIR filters without digital arithmetic operationsi is persented. The filter coefficients are represented by resistors combined with a differential amplifier. With this method an FIR filter can be simply impemented without refering to complex digital arithmetic operations. Furthermore, in this scheme, no additional D/A converter is needed for D/A conversion. Spectral response response of a pulse shaping filter of 17 coefficients is shown as an illustration.

  • Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm is modification of Viterbi algorithm to deliver not only the decoded codewords but also a posteriori probability for each bit. This paper presents SOVA decoder which can be used for component decoder of turbo decoder. We used two-step SMU architectures combined with systolic array traceback methods to reduce the complexity of the design. We followed the specification of CDMA2000 system for SOVA decoder design.

  • A space diversity technique was applied to the conventional optimal beamforming structure using antenna arrays at the base station receiver in the wireless mobile communication system to get performance enhancement due to interference rejection and fading resistance ability of it. To demonstrate the benefit of proposed system, we derived output signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of combined signal from all sub-array groups considering the fading effects and compared with the beamforming-only system. From the analysis and simulation results, we showed that the proposed system can provide high performance gain under Rayleigh fading channel.

  • Chromosomal microarray (CMA) is primarily recommended for detecting clinically significant copy number variants (CNVs) in the genetic diagnosis of developmental delay, intellectual disability, autism, and congenital malformations. Prenatal CMA is recommended when a fetus has major congenital malformations. The main principles of CMA can be divided into array comparative genomic hybridization and single-nucleotide polymorphism arrays. In the current CMA platforms, these two principles are combined, and detection of genetic abnormalities including CNVs and absence of heterozygosity is facilitated. In this review, I described practical assessment of CMA testing regarding to laboratory management of CMA, interpretation of CNVs, and special considerations for comprehensive genetic counseling.

  • In enterprise environments, hybrid storage typically utilizes SSDs over disk-based RAID. Typically, SSDs over RAID are used as the data cache. Recently, the LeavO caching scheme was introduced to reduce the parity update overhead of the underlying RAID. In this paper, we combine the data caching and LeavO caching schemes and derive cost models of the combined cache to determine the optimal data and LeavO cache sizes. We also propose the Adaptive Combined Cache that dynamically adjusts the data cache and LeavO cache sizes for evolving workloads. Experimental results show that the performance of the Adaptive Combined Cache is significantly superior to that of the conventional data caching scheme and is comparable with that of the off-line optimal scheme.

  • We present the results of simultaneous observations of SiO v=1 and 2, J=1-0 maser lines which were carried out with the combined network of the KVN and VERA in 2012 April. The observations were performed toward a long period OH/IR star, WX Psc in order to test the technical and scientific feasibilities of the KVN+VERA combination. The resultant (u, v) coverage of the KVN+VERA combined array enhances the image quality. We confirmed that the distribution and intensity of individual maser spots using the combined network are more reliable compared with the images using the KVN or VERA only. This observation also provides a chance to find a high sensitivity and imaging quality which are comparable to those of VLBA. In addition, the simultaneous observations of two SiO v=1 and 2, J=1-0 maser lines enable us to trace the detail physical environments close to the central star due to different high excitation conditions between two lines at a time.

  • The retrodirective array antenna system is operated faster than existing techniques of beamforming due to its less complexity. Therefore, it is effective for beam tracking in the environment of fast vehicle. On the other hand, it also has difficulty in estimating AOA according to multipath environment or multiuser signals. To improve the certainty of estimating AOA), this article proposes hybrid digital retrodirective array antenna systme combined with MUSIC algorithm. In this paper, the digital retrodirective array antenna system is designed according to the number of antenna array by using only one digital PLL which finds angle of delayed phase. And we evaluate the performance of the digital retrodirective array antenna for the high speed tracking application. Performance is studied by simulink when the speed of mobile is 300km/h and the distance between transmitter and receiver is 100m and then we have to confirm the performance of the system in multi path environment. As a result, the mean of AOA (Angle Of Arrival) error is $4.2^{\circ}$ when SNR is 10dB and it is $1.3^{\circ}$ when SNR is 20dB. Consequently, the digital RDA shows very good performance for high speed tracking due to the simple calculation and realization.

  • This paper proposes a frequency-domain partially adaptive algorithm, called a censoring algorithm, to reduce the computational complexity of the frequency domain adaptive array. The proposed censoring algorithm determines the existence of interferences in the frequency-domain at each frequency bin using a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) processor. The censoring algorithm adapts only those parts of the weights that correspond to the frequency bins expected to contain interferences. The censoring algorithm is also expanded to overcome the signal cancellation phenomenon caused by smart jammers. Accordingly, a censoring spatial smoothing, which combines the censoring algorithm with spatial smoothing, is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms are effective in removing interferences with only part of the computational complexity of conventional algorithms yet with the same level of performance.

  • This paper presents a magnetostrictive transpositioner and its fabrication process. To get a transposition movement without shifting or twisting, it is designed as an array type. To fabricate the suggested design, micromachining and selective DC magnetron sputtering processes are combined. TbDyFe film is sputter-deposited on the back side of the bulk micromachined transpositioner, with the condition as: Ar gas pressure below $1.2{\times}10^{-9}$ torr, DC input power of 180W and heating temperature of up to $250^{\circ}C$ for the wireless control of each array component. After the sputter process, magnetization and magnetostriction of each sample are measured. X-ray diffraction studies are also carried out to determine the film structure and thickness of the sputtered film. For the operation, each component of the actuator has same length and out-of-plane motion. Each component is actuated by externally applied magnetic fields up to 0.5T and motion of the device made upward movement. As a result, deflections of the device due to the movement for the external magnetic fields are observed.

  • Recent earthquakes worldwide show that a significant portion of the earthquake shaking happens in the vertical direction. This phenomenon has raised significant interests to consider the vertical ground motion during the seismic design and assessment of the structures. Strong vertical ground motions can alter the axial forces in the columns, which might affect the shear capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) members. This is particularly important for non-ductile RC frames, which are very vulnerable to earthquake-induced collapse. This paper presents the detailed nonlinear dynamic analysis to quantify the collapse risk of non-ductile RC frame structures with varying heights. An array of non-ductile RC frame architype buildings located in Los Angeles, California were designed according to the 1967 uniform building code. The seismic responses of the architype buildings subjected to concurrent horizontal and vertical ground motions were analyzed. A comprehensive array of ground motions was selected from the PEER NGA-WEST2 and Iran Strong Motions Network database. Detailed nonlinear dynamic analyses were performed to quantify the collapse fragility curves and collapse margin ratios (CMRs) of the architype buildings. The results show that the vertical ground motions have significant impact on both the local and global responses of non-ductile RC moment frames. Hence, it is crucial to include the combined vertical and horizontal shaking during the seismic design and assessment of non-ductile RC moment frames.
