Synergistic Growth Inhibition of Herbal Plant Extract Combinations against Candida albicans

  • Many skin diseases are caused by microbial infections. Representative pathogenic fungus and bacterium that cause skin diseases are Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively. Malassezia pachydermatis is a fungus that causes animal skin diseases. In this study, we propose a method for removing pathogenic microorganisms from the skin using relatively safe edible herbal extracts. Herbal extracts were screened for skin health through the removal of pathogenic microorganisms, and combinations for effective utilization of the screened extracts were identified. In this study, among methanol extracts of 240 edible plants, C. albicans, S. aureus, and M. pachydermatis were killed by extracts of 10 plants: Acori Gramineri Rhizoma, Angelicae Tenuissimae Radix, Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamomi Ramulus, Impatientis Semen, Magnoliae Cortex, Moutan Cortex Radicis, Phellodendri Cortex, Scutellariae Radix, and Syzygii Flos. By evaluating the synergistic antifungal activities against C. albicans using all 45 possible combinations of these 10 extracts, five new synergistic antifungal combinations, Acori Gramineri Rhizoma with Magnoliae Cortex extracts, Acori Gramineri Rhizoma with Phellodendri Cortex extracts, Angelicae Tenuissimae Radix with Magnoliae Cortex extracts, Magnoliae Cortex with Phellodendri Cortex extracts, and Phellodendri Cortex with Syzygii Flos extracts, were identified. By utilizing the selected extracts and five combinations with synergistic antifungal effects, this work provides materials and methods to develop new and safe methods for treating candidiasis using natural products.

  • 토마토에 발생하는 담배가루이 방제를 위하여 토마토 정식 직후 cyantraniliprole 근부관수 fb cyantraniliprole 경엽살포 fb 기존 등록약제 3회 혼용살포(처리 1), cyantraniliprole 근부관수 fb dinotefuran + emamectin benzoate 혼용경엽살포 fb 기존 등록약제 3회 혼용경엽살포(처리 2), dinotefuran 근부관수 fb cyantraniliprole 경엽살포 fb 기존 등록약제 3회 혼용살포(처리 3), dinotefuran 근부관수 fb dinotefuran + emamectin benzoate 혼용경엽살포 fb 기존 등록약제 3회 혼용경엽살포(처리 4) 및 무처리(처리 5) 등 5처리를 시험하였다(Table 1 참조). 정식 20일 후 조사(8월17일)에서는 담배가루이의 밀도는 처리 1, 2, 3에서 각각 20주당 0, 0, 0마리였으며, 처리 4, 5에서는 0, 2마리로 담배가 루이의 유입이 적었다. 9월 17일 마지막 조사에서는 처리 1, 2, 3에서 각각 20주당 10.3, 10.3, 10.6마리였으며, 처리 4, 5에서는 23.3, 37.6마리로 cyantraniliprole 근부관수 및 경엽살포가 비교적 우수하였다. 황화잎말림바이러스병(TYLCV)의 발생도 유사한 경향으로 3화방기까지 처리 1, 2에서는 발병이 없었으며, 처리 3, 4에서는 각각 3, 17%로 무처리의 33%에 비하여 효과가 인정되었다. 그러나 3화방기 이후에는 처리간 차이가 없었다. 상품수량은 처리 1, 2에서 각각 5주당 9,148 g, 9,698 g으로 많았으며, 착과수와 평균과중도 같은 경향이었다.

  • In this paper, the combinations of speech enhancement techniques are experimented. Specifically, the spectral subtraction, KLT based comb-filtering, and their combinations are applied to the Aurora2 database. The results show that recognition accuracy is improved when KLT based comb-filtering is applied after spectral subtraction.

Noninformative priors for linear combinations of exponential means

  • In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the linear combinations of means in the exponential distributions. We develop the matching priors and the reference priors. The matching priors, the reference prior and Jeffreys' prior for the linear combinations of means are developed. It turns out that the reference prior and Jeffreys' prior are not a matching prior. We show that the proposed matching prior matches the target coverage probabilities much more accurately than the reference prior and Jeffreys' prior in a frequentist sense through simulation study, and an example based on real data is given.

On the member reliability of wind force-resisting steel frames designed by EN and ASCE rules of load combinations

  • The expediency of revising universal rules for the combination of gravity and lateral actions of wind force-resisting steel structures recommended by the Standards EN 1990 and ASCE/SEI 7-05 is discussed. Extreme wind forces, gravity actions and their combinations for the limit state design of structures are considered. The effect of statistical uncertainties of extreme wind pressure and steel yield strength on the structural safety of beam-column joints of wind force-resisting multistory steel frames designed by the partial factor design (PFD) and the load and resistance factor design (LRFD) methods is demonstrated. The limit state criterion and the performance process of steel frame joints are presented and considered. Their long-term survival probability analysis is based on the unsophisticated method of transformed conditional probabilities. A numerical example illustrates some discrepancies in international design standards and the necessity to revise the rule of universal combinations of loads in wind and structural engineering.

Main Gene Combinations and Genotype Identification of Hanwoo Quality with SNPHarvester

  • It is known that human disease and the economic traits of livestock are significantly affected by a gene combination effect rather than a single gene effect. Existing methods to study this gene combination effect have disadvantages such as heavy computing, cost and time; therefore, to overcome those drawbacks, the SNPHarvester was developed to find the main gene combinations. In this paper, we looked for gene combinations using an adjusted linear regression model. This research finds that superior gene combinations which are related to the quality of the Korean beef cattle among sets of SNPs using SNPHarvester. We also identify the superior genotypes using a decision tree that can enhance the various qualities of Korean beef among selected a SNP combination.

  • We used an amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis, a novel PCR-based technique, to differentiate Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) of Korean races. The 6 strains of Xoo K1, K2, K3 races were tested with 81 AFLP primer combinations to identify the best selective primers. The primer combinations were selected according to their reproducibility, number of polymorphic bands and polymorphism detected among Xoo strains. 18 strains of Xoo K1, K2 and K3 races were analyzed with the selected combinations of primer set. Some primer combinations (Eco R I +1 / Mse I+1) could differentiate Xoo of Korean races that were not distinguished by other fingerprinting analysis. Thus AFLP fingerprinting permitted very fine discrimination among different races.

  • Objectives This study has conducted a network analysis of individual prescriptions from the Donguibogam opthalmic Chapter. In addition, medicinal herbs used for internal use were analyzed. By analyzing the correlation of these two this study aims to investigate the significance between individual herbs used in ophthalmic diseases through network analysis. Methods Medicinal herbs from Donguibogam Opthalmic Chapter were analyzed and herbal combinations were extracted from the medicinal herbs by using the network analysis tool NetMiner 4 program. Result Based on network analysis of medicinal herbs from Donguibogam Opthalmic Chapter, frequently used medicinal herbs and herbal combinations were analyzed and were consisted of 4 communities. Conclusion This study shows the most frequent medicinal herbs and herbal combinations from the Donguibogam Opthalmic Chapter. Based on the results significant medicinal herbs and combinations can be considered and moreover can be used to produce a new combination for opthalmic diseases. Further study is required since this study has excluded the component volume of herbs and the individual frequentcy of each combination.

Genetic effects of sterol regulatory element binding proteins and fatty acid-binding protein4 on the fatty acid composition of Korean cattle (Hanwoo)

  • Objective: This study identifies single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) or gene combinations that affect the flavor and quality of Korean cattle (Hanwoo) by using the SNP Harvester method. Methods: Four economic traits (oleic acid [C18:1], saturated fatty acids), monounsaturated fatty acids, and marbling score) were adjusted for environmental factors in order to focus solely on genetic effects. The SNP Harvester method was used to investigate gene combinations (two-way gene interactions) associated with these economic traits. Further, a multifactor dimensionality reduction method was used to identify superior genotypes in gene combinations. Results: Table 3 to 4 show the analysis results for differences between superior genotypes and others for selected major gene combinations using the multifactor dimensionality reduction method. Environmental factors were adjusted for in order to evaluate only the genetic effect. Table 5 shows the adjustment effect by comparing the accuracy before and after correction in two-way gene interactions. Conclusion: The g.3977-325 T>C and (g.2988 A>G, g.3977-325 T>C) combinations of fatty acid-binding protein4 were the superior gene, and the superior genotype combinations across all economic traits were the CC genotype at g.3977-325 T>C and the AACC, GACC, GGCC genotypes of (g.2988 A>G, g.3977-325 T>C).

톤 인 톤 배색과 톤 온 톤 배색의 감성 평가 (The sensibility evaluation of Tone in Tone combination and Tone on Tone combination)

  • 본 연구는 톤 인 톤 배색과 톤 온 톤 배색을 활용한 배색의 감성 효과에 관한 것이다. 톤 인 톤 배색 과 톤 온 톤 배색에 근거하여 제작한 24개 배색에 대하여 Osgood의 SD법(Semantic Differential Method)을 이용하여 10명 대학생에게 배색에 대한 인상 평가를 받았으며 자료 분석은 엑셀 통계 프로그램 2004를 사용하여 요인분석을 하였다. 연구결과, 톤 인 톤 배색에 근거한 배색과 톤 온 톤 배색에 근거한 배색의 인상이 매우 다르게 평가되는 것을 확인했다. 따라서 색채조화의 형식으로 제안되는 배색 기법이 배색의 감성 효과에 영향을 미칠 가능성을 확인하였다. 그리고 '좋다-싫다', '어린이답다-어른답다', '강하다-약하다', '따뜻하다-차갑다' 4개 이미지 차원이 도출되었으며 이러한 이미지에는 색상과 색조가 영향을 주는 요소로 작용한다는 것을 확인하였다. 제품의 사진배색과 거의 동일한 색종이 배색의 인상을 비교한 것으로 색표를 이용한 배색과 그 배색에 근거한 제품의 배색 인상에는 거의 차이가 없다는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 제품이 가진 고유 특성이나 형태, 재질 등에 의해 인상이 크게 달라지는 것도 확인하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 배색 이미지나 색채 디자인의 기초 자료로 활용 될 것이다.
