  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the colors of spectacle lenses that would be effective in blocking blue light among various colors so that the damage caused by blue light could be conveniently reduced even in daily life and when filling with dental light-curing resin. Each color dye of orange, brown, gray, yellow, red, and rosa was dissolved in an individual container of a spectacle lens tinting machine, and 6 uncolored spectacle lenses were immersed in a temperature of 90℃ for 1 hour to color. As a result of comparing the blue light transmittance of the colored spectacle lens and the tip for the photopolymerizer, the blue light transmittance of the orange colored lens was 0.82%, and the blue light blocking effssect was the best. Brown and gray tinted lenses had excellent blue light blocking rate, but it was difficult to recognize objects through the lens due to the high tinted concentration, and yellow tinted lenses were found to be effective when the tint was similar to the tip. The blue tinted lens had a blue light transmittance of 15.10%, which was lower than other tinted lenses. The results of the experimental study are expected to be helpful in recognizing the blue light transmittance by spectacle tinted lenses of various colors and making efforts to select the appropriate blue light blocking lens color and block harmful blue light stimuli.

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate color distortion by colors and luminous transmittance of lenses with word-color test included in computerized neurocognitive function test (CNT). Methods: 32 subjects aged $21.97{\pm}1.58$ years with no ocular disease and color vision deficiency were selected. Four colors of tinted lenses, which were red, green and blue included in the primary colors of light and pink, and word-color test in CNT to evaluate changes in cognitive function by color distortion were used. Results: Response time was not significantly increased in green, blue, and pink among four colors, but significantly increased in only red color. And response time was significantly increased below 46% of luminous transmittance in red color. Conclusions: It should be cautious and careful of the red-tinted lens choice because red color with below 46% of luminous transmittance can distort colors of objects, and it could be related to safety problem. It is suggested that word-color test could be extensively used for further studies on color recognition.

  • To know the pollution level concerning the microbes contamination condition in soft contact lenses, 2 experiments were operated with different methods. Firs experiment, we observed lenses surfaces through a scanning electronic microscope after pollution sort contact lenses with the suspensions of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Entrobacter aerogenes which can be major bacteria causing keratitis as wearing on soft contact lenses. As 1 hour after pollution with the soft contact lenses, we observed that many bacteria adhered to the lenses, and the pollution condition got worse with passing time increase(2, 4, 6, 12, and 24 hours, respectively). At 12 hours lapse of polluting soft contact lenses with P. aeruginosa, some bacteria adhered to the lenses. And as 24 hours lapsed after pollution soft lenses with E. aerogenes, bacteria adhered to them, and atypical substance was observed some of the surface of lenses. Second experiment, we observed the microbe pollution condition in soft contact lenses by let 21 people in twenties(men & women), who doesn't eye disorders, wear soft contact lenses during 4 hours. As the result, many kinds of bacterium and fungus were observed, and especially, the bacteria could be identified with their colors and the shapes of colony, so we found that single type, two types, and three types of bacteria adhered to their lenses.

  • Purpose: In this study, we investigated changes of phoria based on varying the color and concentration of the color in lenses. Methods: We measured distance phoria for 39 students who aged 20 to 40 with different concentrated lenes - red, gray, brown and green lenses in concentration 20%, 50% and 80%, respectively. Results: Subjects were divided into three groups which were orthophoria, esophoria and exophoria. Orthophoria in all the color and concentration, there were a few of the esophoria. Esophoria of average 2.07${\Delta}$,B.O showed that a slight increase in all colors and concentration, especially in brown lenses showed the greatest increase. Exophoria of average 3.82${\Delta}$,B.I showed that a slight decrease in all colors and concentration, especially in green lenses showed to 2.95${\Delta}$,B.I to the greatest decrease. Different concentration in same color had no specific tendency regarding phoria. Conclusions: The phoria must be considered when selecting color of the lens because of phoria is changeable by color of the lens. It is expected to study the criteria that minimize the asthenopia.

  • Platinum nanoparticles were added to a mixture of HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), NVP (N-vinyl pyrrolidone) and MMA (methyl methacrylate) in a mould at various concentrations. The resulting mixture was copolymerized by heating at $70^{\circ}C$ for 40 min, $80^{\circ}C$ for 40 min, and $100^{\circ}C$ for 40 min, respectively. The physical properties of contact lens were then measured. The oxygen transmissibility of $9{\sim}15{\times}10^{-9}$ cm/s mL $O_2$/mL ${\times}$ mmHg, water content of 34.22~35.52%, refractive index of 1.432~1.435, visible transmittance of 88.3~91.2% and tensile strength of 0.141~0.152 kgf were obtained. The addition of platinum nanoparticles to the polymer allowed the contact lens to have various colors without artificial coloring agents. The polymer materials satisfied the physical properties required to produce contact lenses, making the material suitable to be applied as a functional material for ophthalmological purposes.

  • UV curable hard and color coatings were formed on polycarbonate(PC) films. The coating materials were composed of a commercially available end-capped polyester(EB830), diacrylate monomer(HDDA), silicon acrylate, photoinitiator, and organic dye as a coloring agent. The surface properties of coating films were evaluated, and the influences of the compositions of coating materials were investigated. The coating films showed high transmission and good adhesion between coating layer and PC substrate. And the coating films exhibited higher hardness than bare PC film. The coating films with various colors were obtained by wet process, and the clear and color window lenses for mobile phone were prepared successfully.
