Effect of calcination temperature on the Coloring of $TiO_2-WO_3$-NiO Pigments ($TiO_2-WO_3$-NiO 안료의 발색특성에 대한 소결온도의 영향)

  • 안료의 색상은 출발원료의 조성, 입자크기 및 소결온도에 의한 결정구조 등에 의존한다. 본 연구에서는 Rutile구조를 갖는 세라믹안료인 $TiO_2-WO_3$-NiO의 합성에서 소결온도를 결정하기 위해 소결전 출발원료를 습식법에 의하여 Jar Mill에서 0.7-0.9um로 혼합분쇄한 후 $100^{\circ}C$에서 24시간 건조하였다. 건조후 $1100-1280^{\circ}C$에서 5구간을 선정하여 소결한 시료를 Jar Mill에서 0.8-1um로 분쇄한 후, 다시 $100^{\circ}C$에서 24시간 건조하였다. 이렇게 얻어진 시료를 XRD로 상합성 정도를 조사하고, 색상 및 착색력을 spectrophotometer를 분석하였다. 색상은 1150와 $1250^{\circ}C$에서 가장 좋은 Yellow 색상이 관찰되었으며, XRD에 의한 결정성의 분석결과와 비교적 일치하고 있다. Rutile구조를 갖는 세라믹안료의 색상은 소결시의 결정화도에 따라 민감하게 변화되고 있음을 알 수 있다.

A Study on the NiO-doped Willemite Pigments (Ni-doped Willemite계 청색안료에 관한 연구)

  • To study the effect of color development of Ni-doped willemite blue pigments, five batches of compositions were prepared and fired at $1350^{\circ}C$/hold for 1 h. When Ni was substituted for ZnO by 0.03 mole the optimum result were obtained. Then they were fired at $1300^{\circ}C$ and held for 1, 2, 4 and 6 h respectively for the purpose sake. XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR, UV-vis were used to analyze the results of experiment. The substitution of 0.03mole Ni for Zn was most optimum and which produced good willemite at the temperature of $1300^{\circ}C$, holding for 6 h. In ceramic arts, cobalt has been used for blue coloring, in most cases, despite of its high cost. If the low cost Ni-doped willemite blue pigments supplies for them with stable and multiple shades of blue pigment, using NiO at high temperature, it would provide various blues for ceramic wares.

Coloring Effect and Functionality of Rayon Based Cool Fabrics Treated by Various Mordant and Gallnut Extract (레이온계 여름용 직물에서 매염제 종류에 따른 오배자 염색의 색채발현 및 기능성에 관한 연구)

  • Gallnuts are known to exert various pharmaceutical properties that include anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and detoxifying effects. Gallnut extract is thought to be a particularly safe antimicrobial agent for textile application due to its natural origins. Hence, textiles were dyed with gallnut to develop multi-functional clothing material with no harmful effects. In this study, three kinds of cool touch woven fabrics, each comprised of 100% viscose rayon filament, viscose rayon filament/high absorption & quick dry (polyester) filament, and viscose rayon $filament/tencel^{(R)}$ spun yarn, were prepared and used as substrates for gallnut dyeing to especially develop functional cool touch textiles for summer clothing material. On the other hand, gallnut dyeing was conducted with mordanting with iron, lime or alum, which induced different colors on the dyed textiles. Dyed textiles were then investigated by SEM, FTIR, antibacterial test, and antioxidant test. Subsequently, gallnut dyed textiles indicated excellent antibacterial ability and deodorization activity regardless of mordant species. However, only gallnut dyed textiles mordanted with iron and alum showed significant antioxidant ability. In addition, the dyeing processes impair the cool touch feeling of the textiles by changing the micro structure of the textile surface.

Paper Manipulation Techniques for Garments and Their Characteristics (종이 의상을 위한 소재 변형 기법과 그 특성 분석)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the material manipulation techniques for paper garments and their characteristics. Reference books or articles were reviewed and catalogues from paper garments exhibition or show, brochures from Paper Museums, and internet sites of paper fashion designers were selected for analysis. Paper has much similarity with natural cellulose textiles in appearances and contents but has much distinct differences in their physical characteristics such as strength, durability, washability, and resilience, and could be treated as one category of textiles. Paper garments were developed with practicality and functionality for the poor and Buddist monks at first but progressed into more aesthetics later for the rich. Paper garments could be divided into 4 categories of garments made of paper, paper thread fabric or knit, modified paper with wanter, and beaten bark of mulburry bush. Paper can be manipulated by coloring & cutting, bonding, or quilting and bonding or quilting can reenforce the strength of paper but cannot increase flexibility. Paper manipulated by weaving or knitting has very similar physical properties as cotton or linen and ideal for summer textiles. Paper can be manipulated with water to make a paper paste and bodice can be moulded with paper paste or Joomchied. Also we can express beautiful patterns on the surface of paper by washouting. Konnyaku paste or lacquer can be used to make paper garments to be waterproof.

Technical Trend of Plating & Surface Treatment for Eco-environment (친환경 도금표면처리 기술동향)

  • Recently, it has been increasing for the eco-environment plating and surface treatment of eco-environment to decrease hazardous materials. Particular eco-environment can be applied to electronics or automotive parts of industry. In the case of mobile phone, if there were fired, the products bearing dye may be contaminated with the hazardous and wasted. we can obtain the original metal color by electro coloring by metal salt, get rid of hazardous gas, decrease the wasted sludges. Now, the industrial patent number is increasing in Korea, we can accomplish the development of green industry by supporting technical trend of the plating and surface treatment in eco-environment.

Analysis of Hazardous Heavy Metal in Colored Materials of Playground Facility for Children (어린이 놀이시설의 소재 색상에 따른 유해중금속 분석 연구)

  • The content of hazardous heavy metal of materials used in playground facility for children was investigated using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analyses, In order to examine the content of hazardous heavy metals according to the material color, four colors, i.e., green, red, yellow and blue, were categorized on the materials used. The highest lead content is observed in the yellow plastic samples. The yellow samples with relatively high lead content show that the chrome content is also high. This can explained that lead chromate, so-called chromium yellow, is normally used as a main pigment to express the yellow color. Therefore, it is concluded that hazardous heavy metal detected in the materials of playground facility for children is due to the pigments used for coloring. Based on above findings, the relationship between the color of materials used in playground facility for children and the content of hazardous heavy metal is discussed.

Modeling of Heat Transfer Equations for Estimation of Temperature Variations Inside the Oil Transport Pipe Line (원유 수송관 내부의 온도 변화 예측 을 위한 열전달 방정식의 모델링)

  • In the present study, the simple form of the heat transfer equation were suggested to estimate the temperature variation inside the oil pipe in order to determine the thickness of the insulating materials to retain the working oils below the critical temperature. The conservation of the thermal energy at arbitrary time were modeled to one dimensional unsteady equation with the empirical formula or data. The calculating results for non-insulation case showed that the temperature were very sensitive to the thermal convection by the velocity of the external wind. For insulation case, the insulation material which has higher density and specific heat, lower thermal conductivity should be chosen with more brighter coloring outside the pipe in order to retain the working oils below the critical temperature.

A Study on the Traditional Kapa(Bark cloth) of Hawai'i (하와이 전통 카파(Kapa)에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze Kapa, the traditional bark cloth of Hawaii, including materials, method of manufacture, and colors and patterns, and to show the characteristics of Kapa to identify traditional culture of Hawaii as well as the unique culture of cloth of Hawaii in tropical area. The method of study is qualitative research using documentary records about Kapa. The cultivated Wauke proved to be the best material for bark cloth in Hawaii. The manufacture of Kapa was made by beating divided into two stages. The dyes for coloring were very different due to the existence of various plants. Indigenous Hawaiians showed the unique textures like grooving and watermarks, and the various designs in their Kapa. The characteristics of Hawaiian Kapa appear the symbol of some colors, the preference of geometrical patterns, the various uses of Kapa, and perfumed Kapa. Through these characteristics of Hawaiian Kapa, the traditional culture of indigenous Hawaiian can be understood very well. This study will help people understand indigenous bark cloth of tropical areas including Hawaii.

  • When we look at the pattern techniques of wooden furniture in the 19th century Joeson Dynasty, we see that furniture patterns in the main living room were showy and colorful while furniture patterns in the library room, where noble men used to study, were natural and moderate, retaining the actual color of the material without any artificial coloring. Even the serial patterns in the Hwe-Jang technique, Which were used rarely, used moderate techniques. such as weaving in patterns with colorless woods - willow and black persimmon ets. - rather than using excessive techniques. However, considering the marquetry&intarsia technique of ceramic and the silver string intarsia technique of metal then current, wood work must also have been technically advanced. Korean modern wood furniture needs remedies to improve the standard of sound wood work techniques. This study shows that pattern unit production, composition techniques, and color effects etc. Using colored patterns bars, by improving the pattern composition techniques of Marquetry&Intarsia, can be substituted for the production logic of modern manufactured furniture.

  • We fabricated urethane material based on properties of reversible and unfading for antic-ceramics restoration. This material with low viscosity was made hardness control possible that user want. And it have very strong adhesion and shear strength properties and is shown the best properties for pigment filling, anti-contractibility, coloring as like epoxy system materials. Particularly, the yellowing and ir-reversibility problem in epoxy restoration material were finally solved. So, there is guarantee in the eternity and stabilization of restoration for antic-celamics. And in order to show the reversible state of the restoration, we successfully dissolve this urethane materials in solvent after perfect restoring subsequently.
