  • This paper presents an efficient object-based color image-retrieval algorithm that is suitable for the classification and retrieval of images from small to mid-scale datasets, such as images in PCs, tablets, phones, and cameras. The proposed method first finds salient regions by using regional feature vectors, and also finds several dominant colors in each region. Then, each salient region is partitioned into small sub-blocks, which are assigned 1 or 0 with respect to the number of pixels corresponding to a dominant color in the sub-block. This gives a binary map for the dominant color, and this process is repeated for the predefined number of dominant colors. Finally, we have several binary maps, each of which corresponds to a dominant color in a salient region. Hence, the binary maps represent the spatial distribution of the dominant colors in the salient region, and the union (OR operation) of the maps can describe the approximate shapes of salient objects. Also proposed in this paper is a matching method that uses these binary maps and which needs very few computations, because most operations are binary. Experiments on widely used color image databases show that the proposed method performs better than state-of-the-art and previous color-based methods.

  • Purpose - Pleasing ambient colors, music, scent, layout and salespeople are hypothesized to positively impact shoppers' perceptions about the atmosphere of a store. Few studies on the interactive effect of these atmospheric factors have earlier been undertaken. This paper looks at the interactive effect of color on the other predictor variables. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is from field locations in the shopping malls located in Delhi NCR. A descriptive study was undertaken to decipher the interactive effect of color with music, scent, layout and salespeople. Moderation of color on music, scent, layout and salespeople is regressed on store atmospherics. The authors investigate the effects of color, light, music, scent, layout and salespeople on store atmospherics in a retail context. They also study the interactive effect of color with predictor variables which significantly influence the perception of store atmospherics. Results - The paper reveals that music, scent, layout and salespeople influence customer's perception about store atmospherics. The interactive effect of color with scent, layout and sales people influence customer's perception about store atmospherics significantly. It does not moderate with layout and music. Conclusions - Store color is important in predicting store atmospherics. Care is needed to ensure that the effects of different environmental stimuli match.

  • The unique colors of paper, that is, blue, green, red, and yellow were used in the estimation of color from the subjective feeling. The monochrome with unique color or the unique color surrounded with the background color was presented. Subject gazed the monochrome or the unique color, which was called target color. The target and background color were the complementary color each other. The various ratios of the area of gazed color and background were taken. Subject answered the level of subjective feeling consisted of pair of adjective items for unique color presented. With the use of the subjective feeling fer the target color presented, the estimation of the unique color was carried out due to Fuzzy theory and neural networks. The results of color difference between unique color presented and the estimated color gave very small value for the case without background, while the results of the case with background color depended on the ratio of area of presented color and background color till the ration of 2:1, The relation showed the Kirschman's law. The color difference saturated in the increase of area of background with the ratio more than 2:1.

  • Based on the past research works on the relationship between face type and personality, personality and purchasing behavior, personality and preference for color, face type and preference for color, we assumed that there could be certain differences in preferred color tone in purchasing automobile according to face type. Objective of this paper is to analyze what differences there are preferred color tones of purchasing automobile by face type. The questionnaires on preferred color tone of automobile were investigated, and the tone of color were classified into light, dark, brilliant, plain tones, and the differences of preferred color tone of purchasing automobile were analyzed by the face types. The result showed the facts that compared with the other types, the rectangular face type preferred the light tone of color, whereas the other face types little showed a distinctive inclination for a particular color tone. Results of this research could be utilized for automobile sales policy for materials of research into color tones, provided some problems are fixed and the concrete researches into relationship between face type and personality, purchasing behavior, preference for color are carried out.

  • The solution way of color difference in display device is using a device profile recorded with color dimension, color properties of each device and is using sRGB color space. The color matching is better sRGB than RGB color space. The sRGB is independent device color space and based on the monitor characteristice. An accurate characterization of the display device is essential for color matching. The calibration and characterization process in display device is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. The process of characterization performs a linerizaiton and transforms the linearized values into the CIE XYZ tristimulus values. The purposes of this paper is to estimate color reproduction using device profile and to explain the propriety of transformation method using variable.

  • Gamut mapping is a technique that acts on cross-media color reproduction to transform a color between devices for the purpose of enhancing the appearance or preserving the appearance of an image. Gamut mapping essentially produces color conversion error which depends the gamut mapping method, source and destination devices, and sample points for gamut modeling. For color space conversion between monitor colors and printer colors, empirical representation using sample measurements is currently widely utilized. Color samples are uniformly selected in the device space such as CMY or RGB, represented as color patches, and then measured. However, in the case of printer, these color samples are not evenly distributed inside the printer gamut and the color conversion error is increased. Accordingly, this paper introduces a equally distributed color sampling method in CIELAB space, a device- independent color space, to reduce color conversion error, and the performance is analyzed via color space conversion experiments using tetrahedral interpolation.

  • Recently a lot of domestic harbor and fishing village should be established by redevelopment Thus this paper is to propose directions of color design about fishing village and harbor in East coast. Above all important color-scape in harbor, such as regional atmosphere and sea-scape are to analyze color planning. The major analysis is to take basic data about color planning for marine tourism. For the feasibility of these characteristics, hue, value, chroma can be checked and design of color-scape may be possible to work out future harbor surrounding by evaluation scale. This study suggests that harbor of contemporary is to be environmental and regional color control. To this end, it shows that the color of not uniformity but combination/harmony is one of the important of satisfaction of color environments. The result of this study, analysis of color-scape about status will be useful to plan with color data in fishing village and harbor.

  • This paper proposes a new method for the recognition of resistor color band using a color segmentation in a HSI color model. The proposed method firstly segments a resistor in a chromatic color as a ROI from a background. Secondly, the color bands of the resistor are segmented by vertical projection profile using both the intensity and the saturation differentiation and finally, it recognizes the colors of the segmented color bands using hue, saturation and intensity values. The final results are the value of the resistor and the names of the recognized color. The proposed method is implemented using C language in Raspberry Pi system with a camera module for a real-time image processing. Experiments were conducted by using various resistor images. The results show that the proposed method is successful for the recognition of resistor color band.

  • This study was carried out to analyze deterioration characteristics of color-pigments painted Hanji to preserve and restore the cultural properties. On the traditional painting technique, glue was used with pigments in various ways for painting, but it eventually caused the deterioration of paintings. Thus, five colors were selected and analyzed for this study for investigating their characteristics of deteriration. Three kinds of glues (Wugyo, Nokgyo, and Togyo) and two kinds of pigments (Chinese and Gilsang) were painted on the Hanji for the accelerated aging test. And then color fastness of pigments and tensile strength of painted Hanji were measured for the estimation of deterioration degree. The results of SEM-EDS showed that Chinese pigments including blue, yellow, green, and red were composed of inorganic substances but the brown was organic substance. Gilsang pigments were composed mainly of Si and Ti ions. Color fastness of the Gilsang pigment blue, yellow, green, and brown were better than those of Chinese. Chinese pigment brown with organic substance showed the worst color fastness. Generally, Chinese pigments painted Hanji showed higher tensile strength than Gilsang in the accelerated aging test. Hanji treated with Chinese pigment and Nokgyo (antler glue) blends and Gilsang pigment and Togyo (rabbit pelt glue) blends showed higher tensile strength than the others. And Andong Hanji showed the highest tensile strength.
