  • A word cloud is a visualization of word frequency in a given text. The importance of each word is shown in font size or color. This plot is useful for quickly perceiving the most prominent words and for locating a word alphabetically to determine its relative prominence. With dynamic graphics, we can find the changing pattern of prominent words and their frequencies according to the changing selection of chapters in a given text. We can define the word frequency matrix. In this matrix, rows are chapters in text and columns are ranks corresponding to word frequency about the words in the text. We can draw the word frequency matrix plot with this matrix. Dynamic graphic can indicate the changing pattern of the word frequency matrix according to the changing selection of the range of ranks of words. We execute an English Bible text visualization using word clouds and dynamic graphics technology.

  • Recently, precast concrete tracks are replacing ballast track for efficient and economic maintenance of track. Precast concrete railroad tracks are manufactured in factory, and transported to railroad construction site for installation. Therefore, quality of precast concrete track itself should be sufficiently good. On the contrary to the convenient manufacturing of precast concrete track, the installation of a precast concrete track requires careful steps. Typically, a precast concrete track is placed on an approximately 15-cm thick lean concrete layer. A mortar is filled between lean concrete layer and precast concrete track to adjust the sloping angle of a precast concrete track for a safe train operation at a curvy section. Then, the use of filled mortarproduces a void underneath a precast concrete track, which is harmful to structural safety of a precast concrete track undercyclic loading. Therefore, it is essential to make sure that there is no void left beneath a precast concrete track after mortar filling. In the continuous resonance method, the amplitude of frequency response measured using an instrumented hammer and an accelerometer is plotted against a pseudo-depth, which is half of the wave velocity divided by frequency. The frequency response functions are measured at consecutive measurement locations, 6-cm interval between measurement points, and then combined together to generate a 2-D plot of frequency response. The sections with strong reflections or large amplitude of frequency response are suspicious areas with internal voids and unfilled areas. The 2-D frequency response plot was efficient in locating problematic sections just by examining the color shade of a visualized plot in 2-D format. Some of the problematic sections were drilled to make a visual inspection of mortar filling. The visual image of interface between mortar and precast concrete track was verified using the validity of the continuous resonance technique adopted in this research.

  • In this study, the amount and frequency characteristics of cloud cavitation formed on a navy ship rudder were investigated through cavitation image processing technique and cavitation noise analysis. A high-speed camera with high time resolution was used to observe the cavitation on a full-spade rudder. The deflection angle range of the full-spade rudder was set to 8 to 15 degrees so that cloud cavitation was generated on the rudder surface. For images taken at 104 fps (frame per second), reference values for detecting cavitation were defined and detected in Red, Green, Blue and Hue, Saturation, Lightness color spaces to quantitatively analyze the amount of cavitation. Intrinsic frequency characteristics of cloud cavitation were detected from the time series data of the amount of cavitation. The frequency characteristics of cloud cavitation obtained by using the image processing technique were found to be the same through the analysis of the noise signal measured by the hydrophone installed on the hull above the rudder, and its peak value was in the frequency band of 30~60Hz.

  • Consumers' expenditure is getting larger on children due to their parents' compensation for increase of double-income family life and decrease of birth rate caused by high economic growth. Increase of demand on children items in the market leads the necessity of development of furniture for children. This study is aimed to design children chairs that meet the environment for children. In this study, the age of children is defined to be 5~7 years old. In order to investigate what causes environment change, this study covers roughly change of environment, change of learning program and use of environment-friendly material. In such scope, we drew out the factors that the chairs for children shall be equipped with. Case studies were done through such drawn factors. The scope of the furniture for children is limited to the chairs for children among the ones made in either Korea or overseas. As a result, we could draw out such keyword of the furniture as storage, mobility, environment-friendly, object style image, preferred color, functionality and safety, based on which we could plan the design and make the final result through high frequency round molding manufacturing process.

  • This study has been carried out with the object of researching into the situation of the genetic isolation of a Korean population located near Seoul. The results obtained are summarized as follows: In general, the distribution of P.T.C. threshold values in the population is close to that of the Seoul population. But the nonataster frequency of male in the population is higher than that of female, and this is in agreement with the status of ankyloglossia frequency in male. However the relationship between the two traits has not been clarified. The gene frequencies of rolling and folding of tongue are slightly lower than that of the Seoul population. The gene frequency conditioning the ability to twist the tongue is lower in the male than in the female. The color-blindness is 6.21 percent, and it is slightly higher than that of other Korean population. All considered, the studied population might be regarded to have been kept in genetic isolation.

  • Conventional GrabCut algorithm is semi-automatic algorithm that user must be set rectangle window surrounds the object. This paper studied automatic object detection to solve these problem by detecting salient region based on Human Visual System. Saliency map is computed using Lab color space which is based on color opposing theory of 'red-green' and 'blue-yellow'. Then Saliency Points are computed from the boundaries of Low-Frequency region that are extracted from Saliency Map. Finally, Rectangle windows are obtained from coordinate value of Saliency Points and these windows are used in GrabCut algorithm to extract objects. Through various experiments, the proposed algorithm computing rectangle windows of salient region and extracting objects has been proved.

  • Several planktonic dinoflagellates, including Cochlodinium polykrikoides (p), are known to produce red tides responsible for massive fish kills and serious economic loss in turbid Northwest Pacific (Korean and neighboring) coastal waters during summer and fall seasons. In order to mitigate the impacts of these red tides, it is therefore very essential to detect, monitor and forecast their development and movement using currently available remote sensing technology because traditional ship-based field sampling and analysis are very limited in both space and temporal frequency. Satellite ocean color sensors, such as Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS), are ideal instruments for detecting and monitoring these blooms because they provide relatively high frequency synoptic information over large areas. Thus, the present study attempts to evaluate the red tide index methods (previously developed by Ahn and Shanmugam et al., 2006) to identify potential areas of red tides from SeaWiFS imagery in Korean and neighboring waters. Findings revealed that the standard spectral ratio algorithms (OC4 and LCA) applied to SeaWiFS imagery yielded large errors in Chl retrievals for coastal areas, besides providing false information about the encountered red tides in the focused waters. On the contrary, the RI coupled with the standard spectral ratios yielded comprehensive information about various ranges of algal blooms, while RCA Chl showing a good agreement with in-situ data led to enhanced understanding of the spatial and temporal variability of the recent red tide occurrences in high scattering and absorbing waters off the Korean and Chinese coasts. The results suggest that the red tide index methods for the early detection of red tides blooms can provide state managers with accurate identification of the extent and location of blooms as a management tool.

  • Analysis of design preference to Korean and Chinese casual style were made targeting Chinese female students in Korea. The following conclusion was derived from the result of final 300-copy survey data, using SPSS 18.0 program. The data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, chi-squre independence test, ANOVA and Scheffe test. Firstly, when comparing change of design preference before the stay in Korea with after the stay in Korea, the biggest change in their preference was character casual style, while the least change was easy casual wear. In terms of duration of stay in Korea, the biggest change was from the group of over 3 years, and in the order of the group of 1-3years, and then lastly less than 1 year, which suggests that the longer the duration of stay, the bigger the change. When comparing preferred clothing color before the stay in Korea with after the stay in Korea, both before and after the stay in Korea had the highest preference for achromatic colors. The frequency of change was mostly from achromatic color to other colors. In the preferred clothing pattern, 'plain' was their favorite one before the stay in Korea, while it turned to 'nature pattern' after the stay in Korea, followed by 'plain' one. In the textiles, the most preferred one was 'cotton', before and after the stay in Korea. However, their preference for cotton was lower after their stay in Korea than before the stay in Korea, and instead there was more preference for 'silk', 'synthetic fiber', and 'other' sources.

  • The purpose of this study was to survey on the actual condition disposable coveralls of railroad rolling stock maintenance workers. The data were obtained from 100 male workers of railroad rolling stock maintenance wearing disposable coveralls using a questionnaire. The results were as follows. Disposable coveralls were exchanged into new ones in a week or 1-2 weeks. The major reasons of the exchanges were 'Because it was contaminated(76.2%)' and then 'It was torn(23.0%)' The response to the wearing frequency was the highest in 'As possible as freqeuntly', and then 'Sometimes' When workers were reluctant to wear the coveralls, the first reason was heat owing to wearing the coveralls. Therefore, wearing frequency became lowered in Summer. The torn parts of disposable coveralls most frequently were around the armhole and the crotch. The contaminated parts followed with the cuffs, the arm, and then the back. The uncomfortable parts were around the neck and the armholes. Workers felt uncomfortable because of heat and sweat caused by garment design obstructed convective airflow. Second, they complained that the coveralls make them irritated in a toilet. Third, they dissatisfied with materials of coveralls because the soils like oil were soaked into the coveralls and stained on the inner clothing. In regard of the color of coveralls, worker's favorite color was blue. In regard of style, the preferences to the separate style with a hood and the coveralls style with a hood were 49.0% and 25.0%, respectively.

  • This study proposed a content-based image retrieval system that uses RGB maximum frequency indexing and BW clustering in order to deal with existing retrieval errors using histogram. We split RGB from RGB color images, obtained histogram which was evenly split into 32 bins, calculated and analysed pixels of each area at histogram of R, G, B and obtained the maximum value. We indexed the color information obtained, obtained 100 similar images using the values, operated the final image retrieval system using the total number and distribution rate of clusters. The algorithm proposed in this study used space information using the features obtained from R, G, and B and clusters to obtain effective features, which overcame the disadvantage of existing gray-scale algorithm that perceived different images as same if they have the same frequencies of shade. As a result of measuring the performances using Recall and Precision, this study found that the retrieval rate and priority of the proposed algorithm are more outstanding than those of existing algorithm.
