  • Most color imaging devices often exhibit color distortions due to the differences in realizable color gamuts and nonlinear characteristics of their components. In order to minimize color differences, it is desirable to apply color correction techniques. Th efirst step of color correction is to select the subset of the color coordinates representing the input color space. Th eselected subset serves as so called color samples to model the color distortion of a given color imaging device. The effectiveness of color correction is determined by the color sampels utilized in the modeling as well as the applied color correction technique. This paper presents a new selection method for color samples based on gentic algorithm. In the proposed method, structure of strings are designed so that the selected color samples fully represent the characteristics of color imaging device and consist of distinct color coordinates. To evaluate the performance of the selected color samples, they ar etuilized for three different color correction experiments. The experimentsal results are comapred with the crresponding results obtianed with the equally spaced color samples.

  • In multiview imaging systems, color correction is adopted to eliminate color inconsistency between views. However, the influence of highlights on color correction has not been considered before. In this letter, a new color correction method based on highlight detection is proposed. The method is designed to treat highlight and highlight-removal regions independently when calculating correction parameters. Finial correction is implemented with a fusion mechanism. Experimental results show that the proposed method can improve objective and subjective correction performance, while achieving better coding performance than other correction methods.

  • Retinex-based image enhancement is a technique that utilizes the property that the human visual characteristics are sensitive to the difference from the surrounding pixel value rather than the pixel value itself. These Retinex-based algorithms show different characteristics of the improved image depending on the applied color space or gamma correction. In this paper, we set eight different experimental conditions according to the application of color space and gamma correction, and analyze the objective and subjective performance of each Retinex based image enhancement algorithm and apply it to the implementation of Retinex based algorithm. In the case of gamma correction, quantitative low entropy images and low contrast images are obtained. The application of Retinex technique in HSI color space rather than RGB color space is found to be high in overall subjective image quality as well as maintaining color.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) video technologies are becoming increasingly popular, as it can provide users with high quality and immersive experiences. However, color inconsistency between the camera views is an urgent problem to be solved in multi-view imaging. In this paper, a perception-based color correction method for multi-view images is proposed. In the proposed method, human visual sensitivity (VS) and visual attention (VA) models are incorporated into the correction process. Firstly, the VS property is used to reduce the computational complexity by removing these visual insensitive regions. Secondly, the VA property is used to improve the perceptual quality of local VA regions by performing VA-dependent color correction. Experimental results show that compared with other color correction methods, the proposed method can greatly promote the perceptual quality of local VA regions greatly and reduce the computational complexity, and obtain higher coding performance.

  • Videos shot underwater are known to have significant color distortion. Typical causes are backscattering by floating objects and attenuation of red colors in proportion to the depth of the water. In this paper, we aim to analyze color correction performance and color distortion patterns for images taken underwater. Backscattering and attenuation caused by suspended matter will be discussed in the next study. In this study, based on the DeepSeeColor model proposed by Jamieson et al., we verify color correction performance and analyze the pattern of color distortion according to changes in water depth. The input images were taken in the US Virgin Islands by Jamieson et al., and out of 1,190 images, 330 images including color charts were used. Color correction performance was expressed as angular error using the input image and the correction image using the DeepSeeColor model. Jamieson et al. calculated the angular error using only black and white patches among the color charts, so they were unable to provide an accurate analysis of overall color distortion. In this paper, the color correction error was calculated targeting the entire color chart patch, so an appropriate degree of color distortion can be suggested. Since the input image of the DeepSeeColor model has a depth of 1 to 8, color distortion patterns according to depth changes can be analyzed. In general, the deeper the depth, the greater the attenuation of red colors. Color distortion due to depth changes was modeled in the form of scale and offset movement to predict distortion due to depth changes. As the depth increases, the scale for color correction increases and the offset decreases. The color correction performance using the proposed method was improved by 41.5% compared to the conventional method.

  • The color correction is the important process of influencing on the picture quality of the 3D stereoscopic images. Existing colorcorrecting methods handle the processing intensifying a correspondence among a left and right image using a histogram based on any one side. In case of color correction based on a histogram, it is difficult to correct tone of image, because the color temperature is not converted enough. And in this paper, the color temperature correction and color consistency correction is proposed without using histogram. The proposed color correction method by color temperature gives 3 in CIE-${\Delta}E$ for each pixel on the images captured with same illuminants and the conventional gives similar results. For color consistency, the proposed gives 9 in CIE-${\Delta}E$ on the images captured with different illuminants while the conventional gives 18. The proposed method shows better results than the conventional in color consistency processing.

  • The haze removal algorithm using median dark channel prior is an efficient and fast method with relatively accurate transmission estimation. However, conventional methods may produce color distortion since the method ignores the color mismatch between estimated airlight and actual airlight. In this paper, we propose a color correction with measuring color fidelity in the HSI color space. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better color correction scheme.

  • Generally, correction methods for faded images use illuminant estimation algorithms, such as the gray world assumption and white patch Retinex methods, as the phenomenon of color fading is regarded as an illuminant effect. However, this induces inaccurate faded color correction, as images fade at different rates according to the ink property, temperature, humidity, and illuminant. Therefore, this paper presents a color correction method for faded images using classification in LCybCrg color space. The input faded image is first separated according to the chromaticity based on LCybCrg opponent color space. The faded color correction is then performed based on the gray world assumption in RGB color space. Thereafter, weights calculated from CybCrg values are applied to reduce contour artifacts. As a result, the proposed method provides better color correction for faded images than previous methods.

  • In this paper, we describe the Color Correction and Preferred Skin Color Reproduction in a ink-jet color printer. The fundamental color correction that converts RGB densities into GMY densities has been ordinarily used. This method can reduce the hue error, but color difference between the preferred skin colors and hardcopy skin colors are large. We have been able to reduce color differences between original skin color and hardcopy skin color by transforming hardcopy skin colors` coordinates into Preferred Skin Colors` coordinates. Experimental results show that the described method is useful and valid for the skin color reproduction in a digital color printer.
