  • We propose an air purification system that utilizes aerial plant parts and root zone of indoor plants where light is insufficient and air circulation is bad. In order to maximize the air purification effect of the plant, the aerial plant parts illuminates mixed light combining blue and green LED and CRI(Color Rendering Index) LEDs close to natural light, respectively. And the root zone was forcibly circulated by the fan to use the soil as a filter. The indoor air purification system combined with the light source and the fan removed most polluted air in the shortest. In the case of mixed light and CRI LEDs of indoor air purification system, fine dust decreased by 14%, 14.2%, and TVOC(Total volatile organic compounds) decreased by 7.5% and 9.4%, respectively. In the experiment in which the fan was operated for 15 minutes, the TVOC decreased to 97.8%. The photosynthesis of the plant and the use of soil as a filter were able to purify polluted air in a short time. And the fan's temporary operation gave the similar effect of continuous operation.

  • The usual method of generating an image for a multiview display system requires acquiring a color image and depth information of a reference camera. Then, intermediate images, generated using DIBR method, will be captured at a number of different viewpoints and composed to construct an multiview image. When such intermediate views are generated, several holes would be shown because some hidden parts are shown when the screenshot is taken at different angle. Previous research tried to solve this problem by creating a new hole-filling algorithm or enhancing the depth information. This paper describes a new method of enhancing the intermediate view images by applying the Ball Pivoting algorithm, which constructs meshes from a point cloud. When the new method is applied to the Microsoft's "Ballet" and "Break Dancer" data sets, PSNR comparison shows that about 0.18~1.19 increasement. This paper will explaing the new algorithm and the experiment method and results.

  • In this paper, we propose the new method of creating 3D virtual-human reflecting the pattern of clothes worn by the person in the high-resolution whole body front image and the body shape data about the person. To get the pattern of clothes, we proceed Instance Segmentation and clothes parsing using Cascade Mask R-CNN. After, we use Pix2Pix to blur the boundaries and estimate the background color and can get UV-Map of 3D clothes mesh proceeding UV-Map base warping. Also, we get the body shape data using SMPL-X and deform the original clothes and body mesh. With UV-Map of clothes and deformed clothes and body mesh, user finally can see the animation of 3D virtual-human reflecting user's appearance by rendering with the state-of-the game engine, i.e. Unreal Engine.

  • Nowadays, LEDs has been applied to the luminescent devices of various fields because of the invention of high efficient blue chip. Recently, especially, the white LEDs composed of InGaN blue chips and a yellow phosphor (YAG:Ce3+) have been investigated extensively. With the exception of YAG:Ce3+ phosphor, however, there are no reports on yellow phosphor that has significant emission in the 450~470 nm excitation range and this LED system is the rather low color rendering index due to their using two wavelength. Hence, we have attempted to synthesize thiogallate phosphors that efficiently under the long wavelength excitation range in the present case. Among those phosphors, we have synthesized Sr2Ga2S5:Eu2+ phosphor by change the host material of SrGa2S4:Eu2+ which is well known phosphor and we investigated the luminescent properties. In order to obtain the harmlessness and simplification of the synthesis process, sulfide materials and mixture gas of 5 % H2/95 % N2 were used instead of the CS2 or H2S gas. The prepared phosphor shows the yellow color peaking at the 550 nm wavelength and it possible to emit efficiently under the broad excitation band in the range of 300~500 nm. And this phosphor shows high luminescent intensity more than 110 % in comparison with commercial YAG:Ce3+ phosphor and it can be applied for UV LED due to excitation property in UV region.

  • This paper dealt with a retrofit high power LED searchlight to replace conventional 1kW halogen searchlights. The design specification meets KDS 6230-1046-1 and KS V 8469. An optical lens with the beam angle of $6^{\circ}$ was used to meet the luminous intensity of 800,000cd at $0^{\circ}$ in horizontal line. Heat dissipation of the LED searchlight adopted a free air cooling type which does not use a fan or a heat-pipe. From the test results, power consumption of the prototype LED searchlight was 148W which was saved by 85% comparing a halogen searchlight of 1kW. Luminous intensity was 945,000cd at $0^{\circ}$ in horizontal line, satisfying KS V 8469. Luminous efficacy was improved by 4.7 times higher than that of the halogen searchlights. Beam angle, color temperature, and color rendering index(CRI) was $5.4^{\circ}$, 5,500K, and 70, respectively. Surface temperature of the LED searchlight was below $60^{\circ}C$ and surrounding temperature of the SMPS installed inside was below $50^{\circ}C$ which were satisfied with the IEC 60092-306.

  • For medical students and doctors, knowledge of the three-dimensional (3D) structure of brain is very important in diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases. Two-dimensional (2D) tools (ex: anatomy book) or traditional 3D tools (ex: plastic model) are not sufficient to understand the complex structures of the brain. However, it is not always guaranteed to dissect the brain of cadaver when it is necessary. To overcome this problem, the virtual dissection programs of the brain have been developed. However, most programs include only 2D images that do not permit free dissection and free rotation. Many programs are made of radiographs that are not as realistic as sectioned cadaver because radiographs do not reveal true color and have limited resolution. It is also necessary to make the virtual dissection programs of each race and ethnic group. We attempted to make a virtual dissection program using a 3D image of the brain from a Korean cadaver. The purpose of this study is to present an educational tool for those interested in the anatomy of the brain. The procedures to make this program were as follows. A brain extracted from a 58-years old male Korean cadaver was embedded with gelatin solution, and serially sectioned into 1.4 mm-thickness using a meat slicer. 130 sectioned specimens were inputted to the computer using a scanner ($420\times456$ resolution, true color), and the 2D images were aligned on the alignment program composed using IDL language. Outlines of the brain components (cerebrum, cerebellum, brain stem, lentiform nucleus, caudate nucleus, thalamus, optic nerve, fornix, cerebral artery, and ventricle) were manually drawn from the 2D images on the CorelDRAW program. Multimedia data, including text and voice comments, were inputted to help the user to learn about the brain components. 3D images of the brain were reconstructed through the volume-based rendering of the 2D images. Using the 3D image of the brain as the main feature, virtual dissection program was composed using IDL language. Various dissection functions, such as dissecting 3D image of the brain at free angle to show its plane, presenting multimedia data of brain components, and rotating 3D image of the whole brain or selected brain components at free angle were established. This virtual dissection program is expected to become more advanced, and to be used widely through Internet or CD-title as an educational tool for medical students and doctors.

  • In this study, research trends were investigated by examining important academic research on museum lighting that has been carried out in Korea over the past 30 years. The aim was to highlight important studies conducted in Korea on material deterioration caused by museum lighting and to examine the current status of research on LED light sources to provide direction for future research. The ultimate goal of studies on museum lighting is to improve the long-term conservation effects, and this study examined the latest light sources of each era. Prior to the 1990s, the effects of light sources on relics were assessed by investigating incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lamps, the first museum exhibition lighting. Then in the 1990s, the introduction of halogen lamps and HID lamps led to the analysis of the characteristics of a light source itself and the introduction of illumination standards. In the 2000s, the lighting environment of museums was investigated based on the characteristics of the light sources that had been studied, and in terms of preservation, research was conducted not only to improve the conservation of relics but also to improve the sentiments of visitors. After 2010, LED lamps were introduced; therefore, material deterioration studies on LED lamps were expanded. During this period, enhancements to LED light sources were made, such as reducing the blue spike area and increasing color rendering. With the development of lighting used in museums and art galleries, the direction of the display preservation criteria has led to the need to prepare advanced standards, covering all aspects from the center of illumination to the consideration of the color of an object and the speed of radiation from the light source. Regular studies of museum lighting in a long-term perspective should be planned to standardize the more advanced conditions of material discoloration.

  • Recently, the smart applications, such as smart phone and smart TV, become a hot issue in IT consumer markets. In particular, the smart TV provides 3D video services, hence efficient coding methods for 3D video data are required. Three-dimensional (3D) video involves stereoscopic or multi-view images to provide depth experience through 3D display systems. Binocular cues are perceived by rendering proper viewpoint images obtained at slightly different view angles. Since the number of viewpoints of the multi-view video is limited, 3D display devices should generate arbitrary viewpoint images using available adjacent view images. In this paper, after we explain a view synthesis method briefly, we propose a new algorithm to compensate view synthesis errors around object boundaries. We describe a 3D warping technique exploiting the depth map for viewpoint shifting and a hole filling method using multi-view images. Then, we propose an algorithm to remove boundary noises that are generated due to mismatches of object edges in the color and depth images. The proposed method reduces annoying boundary noises near object edges by replacing erroneous textures with alternative textures from the other reference image. Using the proposed method, we can generate perceptually inproved images for 3D video systems.

  • Recently the depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) method is usually used in 3D image application filed. Virtual view image is created by using a known view with associated depth map to make a virtual view point which did not taken by the camera. But, disocclusion area occur because the virtual view point is created using a depth image based image 3D warping. To remove those kind of disocclusion region, many hole filling methods are proposed until now. Constant color region searching, horizontal interpolation, horizontal extrapolation, and variational inpainting techniques are proposed as a hole filling methods. But when using those hole filling method some problem occurred. The different types of annoying artifacts are appear in texture region hole filling procedure. In this paper to solve those problem, the multi-directional extrapolation method is newly proposed for efficiency of expanded hole filling performance. The proposed method is efficient when performing hole filling which complex texture background region. Consideration of directionality for hole filling method use the hole neighbor texture pixel value when estimate the hole pixel value. We can check the proposed hole filling method can more efficiently fill the hole region which generated by virtual view synthesis result.

  • This study proposes IMToon(IMage-based carToon) which is an image-based cartoon authoring system using an image processing algorithm. The proposed IMToon allows general users to easily and efficiently produce frames comprising cartoons based on image. The authoring system is designed largely with two functions: cartoon effector and interactive story editor. Cartoon effector automatically converts input images into a cartoon-style image, which consists of image-based cartoon shading and outline drawing steps. Image-based cartoon shading is to receive images of the desired scenes from users, separate brightness information from the color model of the input images, simplify them to a shading range of desired steps, and recreate them as cartoon-style images. Then, the final cartoon style images are created through the outline drawing step in which the outlines of the shaded images are applied through edge detection. Interactive story editor is used to enter text balloons and subtitles in a dialog structure to create one scene of the completed cartoon that delivers a story such as web-toon or comic book. In addition, the cartoon effector, which converts images into cartoon style, is expanded to videos so that it can be applied to videos as well as still images. Finally, various experiments are conducted to verify the possibility of easy and efficient production of cartoons that users want based on images with the proposed IMToon system.
