THE NON-LINEARITY EFFECT ON THE COLOR-TO-METALLICITY CONVERSION OF GLOBULAR CLUSTERS IN NGC 5128

  • The metallicity distribution of globular clusters (GCs) provides a crucial clue for the star formation history of their host galaxy. With the assumption that GCs are generally old, GC colors have been used as a proxy for GC metallicities. Bimodal color distributions of GCs observed in most large galaxies have, for decades, been interpreted as bimodal metallicity distributions, indicating the presence of two populations within a galaxy. However, the conventional view has been challenged by a new theory that non-linear GC color-metallicity relations can cause a bimodal color distribution even from a single-peaked metallicity distribution. Using photometric and spectroscopic data of NGC 5128 GCs in combination with stellar population simulation models, we examine the effect of non-linearity in GC color-metallicity relations on transformation of the color distributions into the metallicity distributions. Although in some colors offsets are present between observations and models for the color-metallicity relations, their overall shape agrees well for various colors. After the offsets are corrected, the observed spectroscopic metallicity distribution is well reproduced via modeled color-metallicity relations from various color distributions having different morphologies. We discuss the implications of our results.

  • In this paper, we designed an 8-bit color adjustor for SDTV using Verilog HDL. The conversion block requires a lot of multiplication. So we adopted Booth algorithm to reduce amount of operation and processing time. To improve speed, we designed the system output as parallel structure. We synthesized the designed system using Xilinx ISE and verified the operation through simulation using Modelsim.

  • 본 논문에서는 감소된 하드웨어 구조를 가지는 고성능 색조 변환 시스템을 제안한다. 입력 영상의 색조를 변환하기 위해서는 입력 영상의 색 온도를 구하는 것이 필요로 한다[1]. 색 온도를 구하기 위해서는 2-D 조명 색조 좌표에 의한 색 온도 계산 알고리즘을 필요로 한다. 그러나 20D 조명 색도 좌표 계산에 의해 색 온도 알고리즘을 채택하면 하드웨어 부담이 매우 큰 문제점이 있다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 2-D 색 온도 알고리즘의 성능을 유지하면서, 하드웨어 복잡도를 감소시킬 수 있는 1-D 조명 색도 좌표에 의해 색 온도 계산 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 제안한 방법은 Xilinx Virtex FPGA XCV 2000E-6BG560을 이용하여 65MHz의 고속 동작과 1344*806의 고해상도를 가지는 fLCD-TV 시스템에서 검증하였다.

남성 패션에 나타난 청색의 배색 특성 (The Characteristics of Blue Color Combination Shown in Men's Fashion)

  • This study's goal is to analyze the color characteristics of Blue used in men's fashion for design developing process. First, we researched the previous studies and examined documents about color characteristics of Blue in general as well as coloration in fashion design and men's fashion. We composed color samples by collecting two-color coloration used in men's fashion collection for 5 years from 2004 S/S to 2008 F/W through a specialized fashion information web-sites. We limited the colors from Blue Green(BG) to Purple Blue(PB). Second, we analyzed the characteristics of hue combination and tone combination. A total of 351 pictures were collected and RGB and HV/C value were converted with Munsell Conversion program(ver.8.0.1). Color data has been sorted to 10 hues and 12 PCCS tones. From this, we were able to figure out that similar/same hue coloration was used more than contrary hue coloration and similar/same tone coloration was used more than contrary tone coloration for Blue. We've limited Blue coloration characteristics of men's fashion to two-color coloration for an analysis; the succeeding study will need to examine on the characteristics of multi-coloration and detailed Blue coloration image by various garments.

백색 LED용 색변환 렌즈의 열처리 온도 및 코팅 두께에 따른 영향 (Effect of Heat Treatment Temperature and Coating Thickness on Conversion Lens for White LED)

  • Today, silicon and epoxy resin are used as materials of conversion lenses for white LEDs on the basis of their good bonding and transparency in LED packages. But these materials give rise to long-term performance problems such as reaction with water, yellowing transition, and shrinkage by heat. These problems are major factors underlying performance deterioration of LEDs. In this study, in order to address these problems, we fabricated a conversion lenses using glass, which has good chemical durability and is stable to heat. The fabricated conversion lenses were applied to a remote phosphor type. In this experiment, the conversion lens for white LED was coated on a glass substrate by a screen printing method using paste. The thickness of the coated conversion lens was controlled during 2 or 3 iterations of coating. The conversion lens fabricated under high heat treatment temperature and with a thin coating showed higher luminance efficiency and CCT closer to white light than fabricated lenses under low heat treatment temperature or a thick coating. The conversion lens with $32{\mu}m$ coating thickness showed the best optical properties: the measured values of the CCT, CRI, and luminance efficiency were 4468 K, 68, and 142.22 lm/w in 20 wt% glass frit, 80 wt% phosphor with sintering at $800^{\circ}C$.

치자황색소로부터 변환된 색소의 특성 (Characteristics of the Conversion Pigment from Gardenia jasminoides Yellow Pigment)

  • 치자의 황색소를 L. plantalium, V. vulinficus, P. aeruginosa, S. mutans, B. subtilis, S. epidermidis, S. typhimurium, S. aureus 등 8종의 균주의 배지에 첨가하고 배양하면 청녹색계 색소로 변환된다. 미생물에 의해 변환된 색소의 분광학적 성질을 경시적으로 추적하면 색소의 변환형태는 3군으로 나뉘어지며, 색차계로 측정된 ${\Delta}E$ 값의 변환형태도 그러하였다. 청녹색계색소로의 변환속도는 균주에 따라 차이를 보였는데 8종의 미생물중 S. epidermidis는 가장 빨라 배양 16시간에 색소변환이 완성되었다. 치자황색소와 변환된색소는 $H_2O-MeOH$ 용매계에 의한 Amberlite XAD-4 column chromatography에 의해 완전히 분리되었으며, 광과 열에 대한 저장안정성은 치자황색소보다 변환된 색소가 보다 안정함을 나타냈다.

  • The formation behavior of zinc phosphate conversion coating (ZPCC) on SCM430 alloy was investigated in 25 vol.% of 1M ZnO + 170 ml/L solution containing various $Fe(NO_3)_2$ concentrations, using open-circuit potential(OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), cyclic polarization(CP) curve and tape peel test. OCP of SCM430 alloy and corrosion current density increased with increasing $Fe(NO_3)_3$ concentration. Resistance of films formed on SCM430 alloy by chemical conversion treatment decreased with increasing $Fe(NO_3)_3$ concentration. Color and adhesion of chemical conversion coatings became darker and worse, respectively, with increasing $Fe(NO_3)_3$ concentration. It is concluded that addition of $Fe(NO_3)_3$ into a zinc phosphating bath leads to faster reaction to form porous surface coatings with poor adhesion and corrosion resistance.

色彩環境이 肉鷄의 攝食行動에 미치는 影響 (Effect of Environmental Color on the Eating Behaviour in Broiler Chicks)

  • An experiment was carried out to study the effect of environmental color on the eating behaviour in broiler chicks. A total of ninety broilers with average 350g of initial body weight were randomly assigned in the $3{\times}3$ randomized complete block design with 3 treatments(yellow, blue, red) and 10 birds per replication of various environmental color at walls, feeders and electric bulbs. The results obtained from these experiments are summarised as follows: 1. Feed Intake and average daily gain were significantly(P<0.05) increased by yellow colored environment. 2. Eating time and eating rate were significantly higher in the red colored than the other, indicating that yellow colored environment would maximize body weight gain and feed conversion for broiler chicks.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a crop-row detector which can be applied to an automatic row following control for cultivators or thinning machines. In this report, a possibility of new crop-row detecting method was discussed. This detecting method consists of two principal means. One is the hardware means to convert the two dimensional crop-row vision to the compacted one dimensional information. The conversion is achieved by a color line sensor and a rotating mirror. In order to extract crop-row , R and G signals of RGB color system are used. The locations of two different points on the target row are detected by this means. Another is the software means to estimate the offset value and the heading angle between the detector and the target row which can be assumed as a straight line. As a result of discussion, it was concluded that this detecting method would be accurate enough for practical use.

금속-유기 구조체를 이용한 포토닉 크리스탈 기반의 효율적인 습도 컬러 센서 (Efficient Humidity Color Sensor Based on a Photonic Crystal with a Metal-Organic Framework)

  • 본 연구에서는 1차원 포토닉 크리스탈과 금속-유기 구조체 (MOF) 물질인 Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(HKUST-1)을 이용한 수분 감지 컬러 센서를 제안한다. 1차원 포토닉 크리스탈은 주기적인 굴절률 변화에 의해 포토닉 밴드갭이 존재하고, 특정한 파장 대역의 광 성분을 차단 및 반사한다. HKUST-1의 굴절률은 건조한 환경과 습한 환경에서 그 값이 서로 다르다. 여기서 우리는 포토닉 밴드갭의 유무를 활용하여 FDTD 시뮬레이션으로 센서를 설계하였다. 광학 해석 결과, 투과된 광의 색 변환보다 반사된 광의 색 변환이 우수하여 반사된 광을 이용하였다. 그리고 포토닉 밴드갭의 중심 파장이 550 nm인 경우, 건조한 환경 대비 습한 환경의 최대 피크 값이 약 9.5배로 증가했으며, 무채색에서 녹색으로 색 변환이 가능하여 센서로의 특성이 우수하였다. 본 연구 결과는 MOF 물질의 수분 감지 컬러 센서로의 활용을 제시하였으며, MOF 물질의 나노 구조 설계로 산업 디바이스로의 활용성도 확대할 것이다.
