Radar Sensor System Concept for Collision Avoidance of Smart UAV (무인기 충돌방지를 위한 레이다 센서 시스템 설계)

  • Due to the inherent nature of the low flying UAV, obstacle detection is a fundamental requirement in the flight path to avoid the collision from obstacles as well as manned aircraft. In this paper, a preliminary sensor requirements of an obstacle detection system for UAV in low-altitude flight are analyzed, and the automated obstacle detection sensor system is proposed assessing both passive and active sensors such as EO camera, IR, Laser radar, microwave and millimeter radar. In addition, TCAS (Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System) are reviewed for the collision avoidance of the manned aircraft system. It is suggested that small-sized radar sensor is the best candidate for the smart UAV because an active radar can provide the real-time informations on range and range rate in the all-weather environment. However, an important constraints on small UAV should be resolved in terms of accommodation of the mass, volume, and power allocated in the payload of the UAV system design requirements.

  • In near future, more congested and dangerous marine traffic environment due to the rapid marine traffics increase and ship handling difficulty by enlargement of ship size is predicted. In this paper, an navigation supporting system proposal made to enhance the safe navigation by providing the collision avoidance informations to the navigator via marine traffic environment assessment. Proposed navigation supporting system displays results of marine traffic environment assessment, degree of the dangers and gives reason of danger which is enhance situational awareness of navigator. For this purpose, results of marine traffic environment assessment which is obtained via real time assessment sent to the designated server and through the connection with navigation supporting system navigator being enable to see all those informations on the computer screen Navigator would utilize those information to make a decision in the difficult waterways and thus safe navigation could be enhanced.

  • In the navigation for a mobile robot, the collision avoidance with unexpected obstacles is essential for the safe navigation and it is independent of the technique used to control the mobile robot. This paper presents a new collision avoidance algorithm using neural network for the safe navigation of the autonomous mobile robot equipped with CAN and ultrasonic sensors. A tracked wheeled mobile robot has a stability and an efficiency to move on a rough ground. And its mechanism is simple. However it has difficulties to recognize its surroundings. Because the shape of the tracked wheeled mobile robot is a square type, sensor modules are generally located on the each plane surface of 4 sides only. In this paper, the algorithm using neural network is proposed in order to avoid unexpected obstacles. The important character of the proposed algorithm is to be able to detect the distance and the angle of inclination of obstacles. Only using datum of the distance and the angle, informations about the location and shape of obstacles are obtained, and then the driving direction is changed. Consequently, this algorithm is capable of real time processing and available for a mobile robot which has few sensor modules or the limited sensing range such as a tracked wheeled mobile robot. Effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is illustrated through a computer simulation and an experiment using a real robot.

  • Leading vehicle states are useful and essential elements in adaptive cruise control (ACC) system, collision warning (CW) and collision avoidance (CA) system, and automated highway system (AHS). There are many approaches in ACC using Kalman filter. Mostly only distance to leading vehicle and velocity difference are estimated and used for the above systems. Applications in road vehicle in curved road need to obtain more informations such as yaw angle, steering angle which can be estimated using vision system. Since vision system is not robust to environment change, we used Kalman filter to estimate distance, velocity, yaw angle, and steering angle. Application to active tracking of target vehicle is shown.

  • The number of automobiles is rapidly increasing , as are the importance of the car as a way of transportation, and the variety of its uses. In these surroundings, a safety, one of the primary factors which must be considered in automotive engineering, demands a system that aids the driver's vision and perception. In this point of view, development of the more promoted system that complement the existing passive method which relies on just man's ability is the important issue of the advanced traffic system including ITS. In this paper, we provide an algorithm and implementation of a control system that warns the collisions ahead and avoids this situation, using informations about the host-car, target-car and surroundings. The warning is made by an algorithm that decides the degree of safely. With this degree of safely, the controller automatically controls a vehicle's speed to a proper level.

Real-time path replanning in dynamic environments (동적 환경에서의 실시간 경로 설정 방법)

  • Many researches on path planning and obstacle avoidance for the fundamentals of mobile robot have been done recently. Informations from various sensors can be used to find obstacles and plan feasible path. In spite of many solutions of finding optimal path, each can be applied in only a constrained condition. This means that it is difficult to find university good algorithm. An optimal path with a complicated computation generates a time delay which cannot avoid moving obstacles. In this paper, we propose an algorithm of path planning and obstacle avoidance for mobile robot. We call the proposed method Random Access Sequence(RAS) method. In the proposed method, a small region is set first and numbers are assigned to its neighbors, then the path is selected using these numbers and cumulative numbers. It has an advantage of fast planning time and completeness of path if one exists. This means that new path selection may be possible within short time and that helps a robot to avoid obstacle in dynamic environments. Using the information of the start and destination position, the RAS can be performed for collision-free navigation by reforming feasible paths repeatedly in dynamic environments.
