In this paper, crashworthiness of the KHST carbodies is evaluated by numerical simulation under the SNCF accident scenario (collision against a movable rigid mass of 15 ton at 110 kph) and the scenario of train-to-train collision at 30 kph. The numerical results of the several simulations, such as the accident collided against a deformable dump truck of 15 tons at 110 kph, the driver's dummy analysis using the integrated analysis method, and the accident of train-to-train collision for the first three units at 30 kph, show good performances in the viewpoint of energy absorption and survival space.
The seating postures of passengers in the automated driving vehicle are possible in atypical forms such as rear-facing and lying down. It is necessary to improve devices such as airbags and seat belts to protect occupants from injury in accidents of the automated driving vehicle, and collision safety evaluation tests must be newly developed. The purpose of this study is to define representative types of head-on collision accidents to develop collision standards for autonomous vehicles that take into account changes in driving behavior and occupants' postures. 150 frontal collision cases remained by filtering (accident videos, images, AIS 2+, passenger car, etc…) and random sampling from approximately 320,000 accidents claimed by a major insurance company over the past 5 years. The most frequent accident type is a head-on collision between a vehicle going straight and a vehicle turning left from the opposite side, accounting for 54.7% of all accidents, and most of these accidents occur in permissive left turns. The next most common frontal collision is the center-lane violation by drowsy driving and careless driving, accounting for 21.3% of the total. For the two types above, data such as vehicle speed, contact point/area, and PDOF at the moment of impact are obtained through accident reconstruction using PC-Crash. As a result, two types of autonomous vehicle crash safety test scenarios are proposed: (1) a frontal oblique collision test based on the accident types between a straight vehicle and a left-turning vehicle, and (2) a small overlap collision test based on the head-on accidents of center-lane violation.
Nationally and internationally reported statistics on marine accidents show that 80% or more of all marine accidents are caused fully or in part by human error. According to the statistics of marine accident causes from Korean Maritime Safety Tribunal(KMST), operating errors are implicated in 78.7% of all marine accidents that occurred from 2002 to 2006. In the case of the collision accidents, about 95% of all collision accidents are caused by operating errors, and those human error related collision accidents are mostly caused by failure of maintaining proper lookout and breach of the regulations for preventing collision. One way of reducing the probability of occurrence of the human error related marine accidents effectively is by investigating and understanding the role of the human elements in accident causation. In this paper, causal factors/root causes classification systems for marine accident investigation were reviewed and some typical human error analysis methods used in shipping industry were described in detail. This paper also proposed a human error analysis method that contains a cognitive process model, a human error analysis technique(Maritime HFACS) and a marine accident causal chains, and then its application to the actual marine accident was provided as a case study in order to demonstrate the framework of the method.
Reconstruction of collision accidents is to analyze the cause of accidents and collision behavior using available information from vehicle accident circumstances. This paper introduces a collision reconstruction system which is developed to be applicable to traffic accident reconstruction. Our System combines both quantitative and qualitative collision models so as to compensate for weaknesses in each with strengths of each other. I It provides accurate predictions and causal explanations of the collision behavior. During r reverse analysis of collision. qualitative simulation is used to verify a hypothesis and to detect any conflict in early stage of reconstruction. It is implemented and applied to real car-to-car collision accidents. The test results verify the reliabilities of our techniques.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is promoting the introduction of e-Navigation that prevents maritime accidents by fusion of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) with ship operation technology. In Korea, Korean e-Navigation is also being developed for fishing vessels and small vessels sailing offshore, which are vulnerable to maritime accidents. However, for the successful development of Korean e-Navigation, it is necessary to develop an indicator that can evaluate the development performance so that the development performance that has been progressed so far can be evaluated and the development direction can be re-established. Therefore, this study attempted to develop an evaluation index tailored to the development goal of e-Navigation service centering on the collision accident, which is a major maritime accident. In this study, a collision accident evaluation index for e-Navigation service was developed by deriving and quantifying the root cause of maritime collision accidents using Root cause analysis(RCA) and fault tree analysis (FTA) techniques. This indicator is considered to be helpful in reducing maritime accidents as it is used as a development indicator for e-Navigation and an indicator for maritime collision accident analysis.
This study deals with the traffic accidents of the arterial link sections. The purpose is to comparatively analyze the characteristics and models by accident type using the data of 24 arterial links in Cheongju. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular emphasis to modeling such the accidents as the side-right-angle collision, rear-end collision and side-swipe collision. The main results are the followings. First, six accident models are developed, which are all analyzed to be statistically significant. Second, the models are comparatively evaluated using the common and specific variables by accident type.

Enlargement and speed-up of a ship and diversification of ship's type have served to greatly increase the importance of marine transport means. It's reported that accident occurrence frequency of collision is high next to engine damage among the ship accident types, and that the accident ratio according to human factors is also high. In addition, ship accidents come to occur caused by complex cause factors rather than a sole cause factor, it is necessary to investigate the cause factors through the written verdict. This study proposed the cause factors of collision ship accident on the basis of human factors in collision ship accident among the written verdicts provided by the Korean Maritime Safety Tribunal, and inquired into the cause factor and effect through the correlation analysis of accident occurrence factors. Also, this study predicted the collision accident through analyzed the major cause factor of the occurrence at the zero minute when collision on the basis of the time taken from the time point of detecting collision of ships to the time point of collision occurrence. This study used commercial software-Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Ver21.0) to do correlation analysis. For time analysis, this study analyzed the cause factor and time by analyzing the time taken from the time point of detected ships to the time point of collision occurrence on the basis of the written verdicts. The study analysis showed that there were many cases of collision ship accidents occurrence caused by more than two sorts of cause factors, and that the case (zero minute) where there is no time to spare for collision avoidance accounted for 36.1 %, and negligence in guard or surveillance of the other ship, and sailing while drowsy, or drinking was a contributor to an accident. Poor watch keeping is very strong relationship with pool ready for sail.

Traffic accidents in tunnel can lead to large traffic accidents due to narrow and dark road characteristics. Therefore, special care of the driver is required when is driving in a tunnel. However, accidents can happen at any time. In the event of an accident, a narrow road structure may lead to a second accident. Therefore, all facilities installed inside the tunnel should be allowed to minimize damage in the event of an accident. We confirmed the safety of the collision target through the action of the sedan, Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and truck when the vehicle crashed into a stairway installed on the tunnel emergency escape route, and when a concrete barrier or guard rail was installed in front of the stairway. The behavior of the vehicle has resulted in a total of three results: rollover or rollover, change of speed and angle of the vehicle after collision. The sedan and SUV were the most secure when colliding with the guardrail, but considering the truck as a whole, concrete barriers were judged to be the most suitable for minimizing damage from the first accident and reducing the risk of the second accident.

Collision accident reconstruction algorithm are developed based on the deformation shape and severity of a car body. At first, the body stiffness equation representing the force-deformation relationship is derived using finite element analysis for head on collision of two cars. The database of deformation shapes and energies is constructed for five different collision configurations; each configuration contains three velocity conditions. Deformation shapes are obtained using a curve fitting method and result in cubic polynomials. Deformation energies are calculated using a stiffness equation and deformation data. Three algorithms are developed to reconstruct collision configuration compared with constructed database. The developed algorithms show reasonably good performance to find collisions conditions for some test problems.

The deformation characteristics is one of the major factors to resume the crash configuration in collision accident reconstruction. Crash analysis are carried out using finite element method and body stiffness equations representing force-deformation relationship are derived, Two different crash conditions : 1) frontal barrier impact 2) frontal impact between cars are given for the derivation of the equations. The stiffness coefficient of equation by method 2) is larger than that by method. 1). Crash analysis between two vehicles is accomplished with three crash angles and three velocities for each angle condition. The deformations are measured for six selected points and deformation energies are calculated using the derived equations. Equation by method 2) results in better estimation of deformation energy than that by method 1) for all crush configurations. The estimated energies can be utilized as one of indices to identify the type of the collision accident result.
