In this paper, we study the effectiveness of college mathematics education by counseling freshman. And we discuss the effectiveness that the college mathematics education can be promoted throughout counseling freshman and by teaching examples in engineering mathematics in courses of calculus and differential equation and linear algebra.

The Purpose of this study was to develop a data base system for the information on science education research and development. As a part of this study, an analysis of papers on science education included in five selected jounals related science education was done by the use of the authors classification system for the research and development materials of science education. A total of 640 papers from the first issues to the 1991 issues of the journals were classified and analyzed. The selected five journals were Journal of the Korean Association for Research in Science Education (published by The Korean Association for Research in Science Education, 148 papers), Teaching Physics(published by Korean Physical Society, 164papers), Chemical Education (published by The Korean Chemical Socity, 98 papers), The Korean Journal of Biological Education(published by The Korean Society of Biological Education, 148papers), and Journal of Science Education (published by Science Education Center.College of Education, Seoul National University, 82 papers).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the sexual knowledge and the needs of sex education for college students in order to develop sex education program. The data were collected from 271 students attedning K community college in Chungcheongbuk-do from November, 29 to December 3, 1999, using a self-administered questionnaire. Sexual knowledge in this study include 4 areas such as sexual physiology, contraceptive methods, venereal disease. and reproductive physiology. The results were as follows : 1. The mean score of the knowledge in sex was 15.42 out of 29, which is very low. Of the four areas of the knowledge, the students showed the lowest score in contraceptive methods. Woman students had significantly higher score in reproductive physiology than man students. 2. Seventy nine percent of the students felt the need for sex education being given by their college. Most students wanted to obtain sex education through special lectures $(55.7\%)$ or regular curriculum$(29.2\%)$, Those specialists in sex education were most prefered. with regard to the contents of sex education, sexual psychology was most frequently indicated followed by contraceptive methods, pregnancy, satisfy ways of sexual drive. About forty two percent of the students thought preschool age as the adequate stage for beginning sex education. 3. Sexual knowledge was statistically significant in terms of grade. major. and dwelling state.

One important purpose of premedical education is to help students attain core competencies during the two-year premedical program. Since premedical curriculum is the foundation of medical education, it is necessary to develop the premedical curriculum in accordance with the overarching curriculum of a medical school. Inje University's College of Medicine (IUCM) has attempted to integrate competency-based medical education into the premedical education curriculum. The revised premedical curriculum aims to develop students' intrinsic competencies during premedical years. In an effort to do so, IUCM defined competencies for premedical education, analyzed and designed premedical courses according to the defined competencies, and suggested learner-centered instructional methods. As a result of implementing the revised premedical curriculum, students have reported both positive experiences and difficulties. Based on the results, it will be necessary to continuously improve the premedical curriculum as well as develop appropriate methods for evaluating student achievement of the defined competencies.

Background & Objectives: Rising concerns about patient safety and looming health provider shortages were generating new recognition for an old idea. Interprofessional education means that two or more professions learn with, from and about other to improve collaboration and the quality of healthcare. The University of British Columbia established the College of Health Disciplines in 2001 to examine the merits of interprofessional health education. The objective of this study was to review UBC's interprofessional health education and to introduce the theoretical framework of interprofessional education for collaborative patient-centered practice. Methods: This study was conducted with the materials relevant to the interprofessional education. We reviewed the journals and Web site for this subject and we obtained interview data from administrators in the University of British Columbia, College of Health Disciplines. Results: We introduced interdisciplinary education for collaborative patient-centered practice model. It is assumed valuable model in preparing the interprofessional education as well as theoretical framework for implementation. We preseuted the example for interprofessional education of the College of Health Disciplines, University of British Columbia. Conclusion: We need to introduce the interprofessional education at the health care departments of University or College in Korea.

The 7th National Education Process, implemented in 2004, features student-oriented, selective educational programs with a wide range of optional subjects. In 2005, reflecting this revised National Education Process, the College Scholastic Ability Test began allowing individual students to choose the subjects for examination they would like to take. As a result, the deviations of the college freshmen's academic achievements in some subjects have noticeably widened. This study shows academic abilities of the students on some subjects by comparing the results of 2008 College Scholastic Ability Test with that of the Basic Academic Ability Evaluation Test for freshmen in engineering college of Hongik university. Lastly, this paper presents some improvement plans in order to better accommodate students with academic achievement levels lower than what is expected by the university.

Competency-based medical education (CBME) is an outcome-oriented curriculum model for medical education that organizes learning activities and assessment methods according to defined competencies as the learning outcomes of a given curriculum. CBME emerged to address the accountability of medical education in response to growing concerns about the patient safety in North America in the 1970s, and the number of medical schools adopting CBME has dramatically increased since 1990. In Korea, CBME has been under consideration as an alternative curriculum model to reform medical education since 2006. The purpose of this paper is three-fold: (1) to review the literature on CBME to identify the challenges and benefits reported in North America, (2) to summarize the process and experiences of planning and implementing CBME at Inje University College of Medicine, and finally (3) to provide recommendations for Korean medical schools to be better prepared for the successful adoption of CBME. In conclusion, one of the key factors for successful CBME implementation in Korea is how well an individual school can modify the current curriculum and rearrange the existing resources in a way that will enhance students' competencies while maximizing the strengths of the school's existing curriculum.

This study investigated unmarried college students' knowledge of sex and cognition of prenatal education. It also aimed to provide insights into how college students' awareness of prenatal education may be raised and to make future married couples practice prenatal education. This study used a descriptive correlational research design. Participants were 346 college students in North and South Jeolla Province. Descriptive statistics with the SPSS WIN 12.0 program were used to analyze the collected data. Important findings were as follows: The mean knowledge of sex was .55, which was near moderate level. The mean cognition of prenatal education was 4.08, which was near high level. Knowledge of sex was influenced significantly by sex and major, whereas cognition of prenatal education was influenced significantly by sex. Thus, it was found that when considering how to raise the cognition of prenatal education and sexual knowledge of sex, both gender and major are important factors to consider.

By a cDNA array representing 2308 signal transduction related genes, we studied the expression profiles of HeLa cells stably transfected by Hepatitis C virus nonstructural protein 4B (HCV-NS4B). The alterations of the expression of four genes were confirmed by real-time quantitative RT-PCR; and the aldo-keto reductase family 1, member C1 (AKR1C1) enzyme activity was detected in HCV-NS4B transiently transfected HeLa cells and Huh-7, a human hepatoma cell line. Of the 2,308 genes we examined, 34 were up-regulated and 56 were down-regulated. These 90 genes involved oncogenes, tumor suppressors, cell receptors, complements, adhesions, transcription and translation, cytoskeletion and cellular stress. The expression profiling suggested that multiple regulatory pathways were affected by HCV-NS4B directly or indirectly. And since these genes are related to carcinogenesis, host defense system and cell homeostatic mechanism, we can conclude that HCV-NS4B could play some important roles in the pathogenesis mechanism of HCV.
