Objective: The purpose of this study was to provide a database for making better decisions of the treatment of the irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patient, and for improving the recognition of IBS in the Korean society. Methods: The survey was conducted on 174 female college students in Korea from January 2017 to January 2018. Out of the total students surveyed, 160 questionnaires were analyzed after excluding 14 uncompleted questionnaires. Results: Based on the survey, the prevalence of IBS among female college students in Korea was found to be 13.8%. Statistically, the results proved that there were significant differences in the stress levels between the students with IBS and non-IBS diagnosed by ROME IV criteria. Students with IBS had higher stress levels than students without the ailment. Conclusions: Based on this study, stress management related treatment should be actively considered. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop more efficient and updated guidelines for the treatment of IBS and new patient care programs.
This study was conducted to investigate the differences in daily nutrient intakes, dietary habits and nutrition knowledge between male and female college students. Male undergraduate students 004 subjects) and female undergraduate students (229 subjects) , enrolled at H University in Daejeon, were recruited for this study. The mean age of the subjects was 22.9 year in male and 20.4 year in female students. Daily intakes of energy and nutrients were calculated from the records of one day of dietary food intakes by 24-hour recall method, and general information, dietary habits and attitudes, food intake frequency and food preferences and knowledge for food and nutrition were surveyed through a questionnaire. About $70.1\%$ of male and $66.1\%$ of female students were in the normal range of BMI (18.5 - 23), and $25.2\%$ of male students were over-weighted in contrast to $27.7\%$ of female students were underweight. Males and females were taking $77.2\%$ and $77.9\%$ of RDA for energy, respectively, and $54.8\%$ of male and $48.0\%$ of female students were taking energy under $75\%$ of RDA. Many of them showed deficient intakes of calcium, iron, vitamin A and riboflavin. Average of MAR was 0.75 in male and 0.72 in female students. NAR for calcium, iron, vitamin A and riboflavin in male students were 0.55, 0.69,0.75 and 0.61, respectively, compared to 0.53, 0.51, 0.70 and 0.67 in female students. The nutrients, which have INQ less than 1, were calcium and riboflavin in male, compared to calcium, iron, and riboflavin in female students. There were no gender differences in meal regularity and meal skipping rates, but female students showed higher rates of skipping dinner than males (p < 0.001) About $50.8\%$ of female students were ingesting snacks 1 - 2 time/day, compared to $27.1\%$ of male students. For the food intake frequency, fruit group was significantly eating more for female than male students (p< 0.001) Though female students got higher scores for nutritional knowledge test (p < 0.001) than male students, they did not show better dietary habits or dietary attitudes than male students actually. Therefore, a more active and actual education program accustomed to the different genders and ages with focus on real changing of dietary behaviors needs to be developed and run in schools and local departments.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the purchasing status of luxury brand counterfeit goods of female college students, and to investigate the influence of students' social self-concept on their attitude towards luxury counterfeit products. The study was implemented by a descriptive survey method using a self-administerd questionnaire. The sample consisted of 224 female college students residing in Seoul and Busan. The data were analysed through frequency, factor analysis, and regression analysis. The results were as follows. First, it was observed that 42.40% of the respondents have had the experience of purchasing counterfeit items. The major reasons for purchasing counterfeit goods, it was discovered, were not only the low price but also their perceived good quality. Among the reasons for not purchasing counterfeit products, the emotional reason was more significant than the intellectual reason. Second, female college students' social self-concept was found to have an influence on their social negative attitudes towards luxury brand counterfeits. Third, it was found that the social self concept was closely related to the satisfaction with the counterfeit purchases. Fourth, it was discovered that the social self-concept of the students significantly affected the intention to repurchase.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze effects of drinking motives on binge drinking and the difference between male and female students. Methods: A survey was conducted for 500 college students in three towns in Gang-won Province. Frequency analysis was used for demographic item and group regression analysis for effects of drinking motives on binge drinking. Results: Sub-factor-uplift motives, social motives, coping motives and tuning motives were analyzed. It was found that uplift motives, social motives and coping motives influenced binge drinking significantly(p<0.001). But tuning motives had no significant effect. Also for male students, uplift motives affected binge drinking significantly(p<0.001) whereas female students were not affected by it. In contrast, social motives had an influence on binge drinking significantly (0<0.001) for female students while it didn't affect male students. Coping motives affected both male and female students on binge drinking by p<0.001. Conclusions: College students' drinking motives had a significant influence on binge drinking, and since it is reported that there is difference between male and female student group, a guideline and education for drinking regarding gender difference is needed for the establishment of desirable drinking culture for college students.
The breast feeding habits of 507 college students were evaluated between March 27 to April 26 (2006). Data were collected from self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS for Windows V.12.0. The study population consisted of 245 (48.3%) male and 262 (51.7%) female college students that answered ‘yes’ when asked whether they had been breast feed. A total of 52.7% of the study population were fed with breast milk (most frequent answer), as opposed to 11.0% that were fed with infant formula (least frequent answer) during their infancy. When asked whether they ever got educated on breast feeding, 78.1% of the college student subjects answered ‘no’. A total of 95.1% of the female college students replied ‘yes’ when asked if they intended to breast feed their child. Moreover, 62.2% of the college student subjects indicated that their parents had an influence on their decision to breast feed. A comparison between male and female college students indicated that female college students had a superior knowledge level of the general characteristics of breast feeding over the male subjects (p<0.05) . Moreover, a comparison of the different levels of college attained suggest that freshman college students had the highest knowledge level, followed by senior, sophomore and junior college students in terms of advantage, BF Tabu (p<0.05). Also, students provided with education on breast feeding had a higher knowledge level than college students with no formal education. In summary, the results suggest that the knowledge on breast feeding in college students were different by general characteristics such as gender, major and school year, and education on breast feeding in advance was appeared to be an important factor, therefore nutritional education course on breast feeding is recommended for the college students.
Purpose: Alcohol use in South Korean women, particularly college students, is increasing. Women are more vulnerable than men to alcohol use, which puts them at greater risk of physical and psychosocial problems. Some studies have reported that on failing to find meaning in life, many South Korean college students experience depression, subsequently using alcohol as a coping mechanism. This study aimed to develop a logotherapeutic program and identify its effects on meaning in life, depression, and problem drinking among female college students. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental trial. The participants were female college students who scored over 8 in the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Twenty-four students were assigned to the experimental group and twenty-three to the control group. Three scales were used in this study: the Purpose in Life test, Beck Depression Inventory, and AUDIT. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test in SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: After the conclusion of the logotherapeutic program, the level of meaning in life and depression were more greatly improved in the experimental group than the control group. Conclusion: The logotherapeutic program is an effective method to help female college students find meaning in life and reduce depression in this population.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the nutrient intake, eating behaviors and health-related lifestyles of Korean non-nutrition major college students after they took a nutrition course. The subjects were 40 male and 147 female students at a university in Inchon. The results are summarized as follows: Average height of male and female students was 176.2 and 162.0 cm, respectively. Average weight was 66.2 and 52.3 kg, respectively. Average intake of calories, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin $B_1$, vitamin $B_2$, niacin, and Ca was lower than Korean RDA. Fe intake of female students was lower than Korean RDA. Most students have had dietary problems such as overeating, eating unbalanced meals, and skipping meals. More than 60% of the students skipped breakfast. The main reason for skipping meals was lack of time. Most students didnt exercise regularly. About 40% of the students took vitamin or mineral supplements. As for smoking and alcohol use, 11.3% of the students drank alcohol and smoked, and 74.2% of them only drank alcohol. More than 30% of the students drank alcohol once a week. Most students ate out twice a week, and chose their based on taste rather than nutritional value. The main reason for eating out was simply to enjoy a meal. More than 60% of the students ate at places in or around campus. After taking the nutrition course, intake of milk and other dairy products, vegetables, fruits and protein-rich foods increased in female students. For both male and female students, intake of fat, sugar, processed foods, soft drinks, fried foods and spices decreased. Therefore, nutrition education had effect on non-nutrition major students, suggesting that proper nutrition education encouraged healthy eating habits on the part of college students.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relations among nutrient intake. self body image and satisfaction, and physical fitness of college students in Taegu. A total of 213 apparently healthy college students living in Taegu were selected for the study. The following anthropometric measurements were made on all participants : weight, height: waist and hip circumferences, and bioimpedence. Using weight and height, the body mass index (kg/$m^2$) was calculated. The 24-hour recall were obtained from subjects. Dietary habits and energy expenditure were examined through questionnaires. Nutrients intake were analyzed by computer aided nutritional analysis program. Variables of Physical fitness were consisted of body fat, muscular strength and endurance, agility. power, flexibility, cardiorespiratory function, physical efficiency index(PEI). Data were analyzed by computer using the SAS 6.12(Statistical Analysis System). The mean heights and weights of these students were similar to those reported for the 50th percentile in a national survey. Nutrient intake of the college students in Taegu was considerably lower than RDA. The male subjects' mean intake of two nutrients, vitamin B$_2$ and calcium, were less than 55% of the RDAs. the female subjects' mean intake of two nutrients, iron and calcium, were less than 55% of the RDAs. A most variables of physical fitness except sit and reach in male students showed a significant higher values than those of female students. There was a significant positive relationship between PEI and the intake of animal protein, fat, Ca. and B$_2$ in male students. Also there was a significant positive relationship between exercise duration of PWC 170 and protein, fat, iron, vitamin A, B$_2$, niacin, and energy intake in female students. The muscular strength showed the significant correlation with weight, height, and waist circumference in male and female students. The cardiorespiratory function and Physical efficiency index showed significantly negative correlation with tricep and subscapular skin thickness in the female students. There were significantly positive correlations between WHR and body efficiency index in male students, and significantly positive correlations between WHR and the cardiorespiratory function in female students. There was no significant level of correlation between the degree of satisfaction of body image and physical efficiency index. However. there was a significant positive correlation between waist circumference (and weight) and physical efficiency index in male and female students and almost all of the surveyed male and female college students wanted less waist circumference or weight even though they were in the criteria of standard waist circumference or weight. In conclusion, a beneficial effect of adequate nutrient intake on physical fitness was found, college students must increase their energy and nutrient intake if it is below than the RDA for improving their physical fitness.
The study purposes to compare consumer choice behavior of high school students with that of college students. Through a questionnaire survey, data were collected from 385 high school students and from 230 college students. The results were as follows; 1) consumer choice behavior patterns were sorted into 'the indifferent type', 'the bragging type', and 'the economic type'. 2) The college students tended to choose new products or famous brands, to do comparison and planned shopping, and to buy more on impulse than the high school students. On the other hand, the high school students tended to buy low-priced products or products at discount prices. 3) The female students chose new and low- priced products and bought more on impulse than the male students. 4) Most of female and male college students belonged to the 'bragging type'. 'The indifferent type' was the most common of male high school students. 5) 'The economic type' was the least of all college students and highschool students.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of alcohol drinking motivation on the drinking behaviors of female college students. It is necessary to examine the drinking behavior of female college students not only for their academic performance and health status but also for future reproduction concerns. The subjects of this study included 296 college students in their 20s. Research data was analyzed using SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 22 statistical programs. Results of this study found academic and human relationships had the greatest effect on the stress level of female college students. In addition, the perception of drinking was more influential on the drinking problem, and female college students who perceived anxiety through the drinking problem tried to change the behavior of drinking. Also, the perception of drinking by the influence of alcohol was more significant than that of drinking by college students who perceived anxiety through drinking problem. Second, if drinking is beneficial in the internal or external motivation of the individual, it maintains drinking behaviors and changes the behavior of drinking when experiencing the problem of drinking. Through these results, we aim to contribute to the reduction of the negative risk of alcohol by understanding the drinking preference of female college students and examining the drinking culture according to drinking motives.
