  • Research Data Management (RDM) is a system that encompasses people, policies, resources and technologies that provide and support directions in producing, collecting, using, and preserving research data. RDMs consist of a wide range of activities, including supporting the creation of data management plans (DMPs), building data collections and repositories, and digital preservation and distribution. In advanced countries, systems for RDMs and related organizations are well organized and functioning, but in Korea, the management system is insufficient due to low level of data awareness. In this paper, we propose a plan to establish a research data management system suitable for the reality. In particular, it is important to reflect in RDM that the construction of big data platforms for the collection and management of big data in each field and organization is increasing rapidly. Also, we will discuss how to provide data provision and researchers' data sovereignty using blockchain technology, and propose a P2P-based decentralized RDM scheme.

  • Since talent model and core competence based training are in demand, this study aimed to develop proper talent model and major competencies for the Department of Library and Information Sciences at K University and propose appropriate educational subjects based thereon. To this end, related documents were analyzed, expert opinions were obtained, and a consumer survey was conducted, which yielded the following results. First, the talents required at the Department of Library and Information Sciences were broken down into different areas, such as curation, intelligence, service, technology, and professionalism. Second, fifteen major competencies were demanded from these talents, such as collection (in terms of collecting documents and information), organizational, and preservation skills. Third, in order to realize these talents and major competencies, K University has implemented additional subjects in its curriculum. Furthermore, it appears that the librarians' talents and their competencies in the field should be developed at the national level, while NCS core competence based training should also be developed and implemented.

  • Entomopathogenic nematodes were isolated through the investigation of soil samples from various biotopes in south Korea, the efficiency of isolation for highly pathogenic nematodes to silkworms (Bombyx mori) was as high as 28 %. Twenty-eight strains of nematodes, selected among 100 samples by silkworms were confirmed the pathogenicity, multiplicity, and tolerance against various condition of preservation. Pathogenicity of the nematode isolates to agricultural and environmental pests such as Calliphora vomitoria, Pseufaletia separata, Palomena angulosa, and Melolontha incana were high. Mortality was varied from 20 to 100% by the pest insects and nematode strains. The high detectablity of entomopathogenic nematodes resulted from the methods of collection for soil samples within 10 cm depth after eliminating dried soil surface and the use of silkworm trap. High population of entomopathogenic nematodes represented the strong activity and broad action radius in the environment. Most of the nematode isolates were successfully cultured on the silkworm host as well as on artificial media, and proved their potential for the use of biological control agent.

  • In general, collections in museum are kept in storage according to a preservation and administration program in long or short term, after conservators' conservation treatment. Museum activities related to conservation science are common to do before and after exhibitions. That is, the museum collections include a flow mechanism, which circulate a space in where conservation science related activity is carried on centering around its storage. The purpose of this study is to suggest the design guidelines of a conservation area in a museum. The results of this study as follows. First, to program space planning, conservation area of museum is divided into 4 kinds of zone. Second, space for relics unloading in basically includes 'unloading room', 'control room', 'worker room', 'unpacking room', and 'unloading tools storage' and considers to install 'outdoor arrangement space', etc. In case of space for making relics collections, 'arrangement room' and 'temporary storage' are separately planned in order to arrange and temporarily store relics taken in. Conservation analysis space should be divided into 2 kinds of zone, 'conservation analysis lab' for analysis of collection characters and 'restoration lab' for conservation treatment in the bigger museum. In case of large-scale museum, conservation treatment space is basically classified with characters of museum collections. And it considers installing 'waterlogged wood lab', 'painting clothes treatment lab', 'storage of treated relics' etc. Third, for 'the spaces for analysis treatment', must consider activity contents and sizes of the department for scientific conservation every museum, can classify in detail required space, and must review the space for relics settlement in construction.

  • Local art museums are being operated as non-profit organizations for the advancement of the collection, preservation, research, exhibition and education on art-related materials. The art museum is based on the physical environment of the means created by the human will. This study examined the visit satisfaction of the physical environment of the Gangwon Regional art museum. For the measurement, the Art Museum physical environment, kimhonghee (2012), was used as the elements, and Parasurama based on the SERVQUAL model was analyzed. The SPSS 18.0K statistics program was used to analyze the results, and the analysis of the elements of the physical environment of the art museums resulted in the surrounding factors, viewing factors, human factors, and facility factors. Regarding the level of satisfaction of the visitors, there was a difference in the level of satisfaction of the elements of the physical environment for each of the factors according to the gender, and it was confirmed that they generally have a positive (+) effect. The Gangwon Regional Art Museum is building a better physical environment to look forward and continue to communicate with the visitors.

  • This study empirically analyzed the recognition and current status of university libraries related to the legal deposit of thesis and dissertation and investigated the ways to activate legal deposit to National Assembly Library. As a result, most universities conduct legal deposit of thesis and dissertation. However, most librarians face difficulties resulted from the duplication of deposits to many institutions. In the case that the deposits are not made, the main reasons are the university library's policies, duplication and inefficiency of the deposit procedures, and the limitation of obtaining copyright agreements. In order to address these limitations and to maximize the social and informational values of thesis and dissertation, this research proposed approaches to legal deposit of thesis and dissertation, including strengthening digital deposit system through the establishment of independent legal deposit law, preparing the effective ways of preservation. constructing an integrated deposit system, and developing professional collection of thesis and dissertation which can consolidate National Assembly Library.

  • This paper describes the application of a wireless sensor network to a 31 meter-tall medieval tower located in the city of Trento, Italy. The effort is motivated by preservation of the integrity of a set of frescoes decorating the room on the second floor, representing one of most important International Gothic artworks in Europe. The specific application demanded development of customized hardware and software. The wireless module selected as the core platform allows reliable wireless communication at low cost with a long service life. Sensors include accelerometers, deformation gauges, and thermometers. A multi-hop data collection protocol was applied in the software to improve the system's flexibility and scalability. The system has been operating since September 2008, and in recent months the data loss ratio was estimated as less than 0.01%. The data acquired so far are in agreement with the prediction resulting a priori from the 3-dimensional FEM. Based on these data a Bayesian updating procedure is employed to real-time estimate the probability of abnormal condition states. This first period of operation demonstrated the stability and reliability of the system, and its ability to recognize any possible occurrence of abnormal conditions that could jeopardize the integrity of the frescos.

  • Archival organizations have been evolving to varying users' needs. The main functional focus of earlier archival organizations has inclined to collection and preservation of data, but their current interests expand to utilization of the data collected. Therefore, today's archival organizations endeavor to procure user-oriented archival information service. This study highlights the programs initiated in last two years by 'Service Innovation Team', a special task force of National Archives of Korea organized in 2005, and presents comparative analysis of those programs with respect to the existing archival systems of National Archives and Records Administration of USA and The National Archives in UK. Additionally, the study, while emphasizing the importance of enlarging and diversifying service programs as well as promoting public awareness over archive resources, introduces the service standards of advanced nations as benchmarks for future archival service policies of pertinent organizations.
