The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cooperative skill training on problem based learning for elementary school science class. Two experiment groups were involved, in which problem based learning model was used and control group, in which traditional instruction was employed. One of experiment groups was trained in cooperative skills before the instruction. The results demonstrated a significant main effect in the scores of achievement and a significant interaction effect between the instructional strategies and learning ability level. The performance of high-level students in the two experimental groups was higher than that of control group. However, the performance of medium and low-level students trained with cooperative skills training was higher than that of students without cooperative skills training. A significant main effect was also found in self-esteem, but there was no significant interaction between instructional strategies and learning ability. Therefore, this study suggests that cooperative skills training is of great importance for minimizing the free-rider effect and increasing collaborative interaction in cooperative learning.
This study investigated the effects on task performance of dyad collaboration based on young children's cognitive and social ability. The 108 5-year-old subjects were assigned to a collaborative experimental group, a comparison group working individually in sorting, writing, and making a puzzle, or a control group. Data from before and after measurements on sorting and perspective taking tasks were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. Results showed that (1) Children working in dyad collaboration obtained significantly more improvement in their performance on both tasks than those working individually. (2) Dyads composed of a child with high level social skill but low level intelligence and a child with low levels of both showed most improvement in performance on the perspective taking task.
This study tried to the answer to the question : “How does the human communication happen between clinical nurse and patient\ulcorner” To answer that, a micro-ethnographic research method was used and I performed field work at the orthopedic ward in one Korean metropolitan city. After analysis of interview data, observational data and field notes, I could understand that clinical nurse-patient communication performed for clinical decision making, providing patient education and emotional support. Prepared nurse communicate with patient more effectively, eventually can establish more trust relationship with patient. Conclusively I discussed about the way of nurse's skill acquisition, need of collaborative conference with doctor and nurse, and curriculum development to promote nurses's understanding of human.
The study aimed at investigating the level of self-efficacy of science teachers towards student engagement. Although the general self-efficacy of teachers has been explored a lot but the efficacy of science teacher has not been explored more and student engagement is crucial towards understanding of science concepts. Therefore, the main purpose of the study was to find the self-efficacy of science teachers mainly towards three dimensions of student engagement (Behavioral, Cognitive and Emotional engagement). The study was carried with 150 secondary science teachers as Kathmandu. Secondary science teachers were found to be moderately high efficacious in all aspects of behavioral engagement of students except four aspects in which they showed moderate efficacy. Regarding the self-efficacy on cognitive engagement they were moderately efficacious in two aspects and were found to be moderately high efficacious in other all aspects. However, science teachers' self-efficacy was found to be moderately high. Teachers were found to be efficacious in making clasroom constructive, developing collaborative skill and high order thinking among the students. However in some aspects they were found less efficacious.

In order to suggest instructional strategy and learning guidance in science education, the purpose of this study was to classify middle school students by learning style and then examine student's science process skills via those learning styles. The Student Learning Style Questionnaire (SLSQ) and the Test of Science Process Skills (TSPS) were given to 340 ninth graders. Their learning styles were classified into three categories, that were divided into two opposing types: independent/ dependent, collaborative/ competitive, and participant/ avoidant. The results showed the following : 1) Students of the dependent, collaborative, and participant type out numbered ones of the independent, competitive, and avoidant type. 2) Gender differences showed that male students of the competitive, participant, dominant type totalled more than the female students of the collaborative, avoidant type. Furthermore, 3) For students of the independent, competitive, participant type, science process skills were higher than those of the dependent, collaborative, avoidant type.
We propose a virtual sailor training platform which supports emergency drills for ship's fire in virtual environment. Proposed platform not only enhances training efficiency by providing immersiveness, but also enables a consolidated virtual training due to the network-based multiplayer capabilities. Based on the offline fire simulation results using FDS and CFAST the platform visualizes a realistic fire spread in real-time. The training platform on the basis of the fire training material of the maritime safety education institute induces equipment proficiency and environment adaptation throughout immersive virtual environment in addition to procedure proficiency as well. In the implementation we showed that the equipment and environment controls and telepresence improve the training proficiency and enable collaborative virtual training that participates multiple trainees and induces cooperation for a common goal. Implementation of the platform demonstrated the skill mastery capability of the drill such as efficient fire apparatus controls and passenger controls.

This study was to present a model of cooperative reading practice and verify reading effectiveness on youth. For this purpose, 68 reading clubs were established in 61 districts and 8 high schools. The research groups were classified as the poor reading group, the good reading group, and the mixed-skill reading group. The cooperative reading groups were carried out for four months. We developed a questionnaire on Reading effectiveness conducted it pre- and post-test, and analyzed the results through the SPSS statistical program. We found that there was a positive change in the reading effectiveness of youth and overall-the highest effectiveness was found in the poor reading group. In addition, there was a positive change in the reading behavior of youth. The change of reading effectiveness was found to affect reading behavior.
In recent years, the importance of collaboration has been emphasized in the public sector as well as private companies. In a study for private enterprises, individual enterprises stressed the innovation through collaboration with other organization such as enterprise, university, and other agencies. Other companies and agencies have the technology they need, so that they share skill or knowledge, and they do to create more new developments. This implies a collaborative system can be a win-win collaboration with all partners. It also requires collaboration in the public sector. Because they have many problems that can not be solved at the level of individual institutions. However, public institutions lie ecologically unfavorable in a collaborative environment than the private sector. The organizational structure is hierarchical. In addition, relationships between collaboration partners not recognize horizontally. Of course, communication is not smooth. This study examines successful collaboration case in private sector and we want to draw implications for public organizations. Finally, we discussed ways to promote collaboration in the public sector.
With the advent of communication technologies including electronic collaborative tools and conferencing systems provided over the Internet, virtual collaboration is becoming increasingly common in organizations. Virtual collaboration refers to an environment in which the people working together are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility for outcomes, are geographically dispersed, and rely on mediated rather than face-to face, communication to produce an outcome. Research suggests that new sets of individual skill, knowledge, and ability (SKAs) are required to perform effectively in today's virtualized workplace, which is labeled as individual virtual competence. It is also argued that use of online social networking sites may influence not only individuals' daily lives but also their capability to manage their work-related relationships in organizations, which in turn leads to better performance. The existing research regarding (1) the relationship between virtual competence and task performance and (2) the relationship between online networking and task performance has been conducted based on different theoretical perspectives so that little is known about how online social networking and virtual competence interplay to predict individuals' task performance. To fill this gap, this study raises the following research questions: (1) What is the individual virtual competence required for better adjustment to the virtual collaboration environment? (2) How does online networking via diverse social network service sites influence individuals' task performance in organizations? (3) How do the joint effects of individual virtual competence and online networking influence task performance? To address these research questions, we first draw on the prior literature and derive four dimensions of individual virtual competence that are related with an individual's self-concept, knowledge and ability. Computer self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to use computer technology broadly. Remotework self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to work and perform joint tasks with others in virtual settings. Virtual media skill is defined as the degree of confidence of individuals to function in their work role without face-to-face interactions. Virtual social skill is an individual's skill level in using technologies to communicate in virtual settings to their full potential. It should be noted that the concept of virtual social skill is different from the self-efficacy and captures an individual's cognition-based ability to build social relationships with others in virtual settings. Next, we discuss how online networking influences both individual virtual competence and task performance based on the social network theory and the social learning theory. We argue that online networking may enhance individuals' capability in expanding their social networks with low costs. We also argue that online networking may enable individuals to learn the necessary skills regarding how they use technological functions, communicate with others, and share information and make social relations using the technical functions provided by electronic media, consequently increasing individual virtual competence. To examine the relationships among online networking, virtual competence, and task performance, we developed research models (the mediation, interaction, and additive models, respectively) by integrating the social network theory and the social learning theory. Using data from 112 employees of a virtualized company, we tested the proposed research models. The results of analysis partly support the mediation model in that online social networking positively influences individuals' computer self-efficacy, virtual social skill, and virtual media skill, which are key predictors of individuals' task performance. Furthermore, the results of the analysis partly support the interaction model in that the level of remotework self-efficacy moderates the relationship between online social networking and task performance. The results paint a picture of people adjusting to virtual collaboration that constrains and enables their task performance. This study contributes to research and practice. First, we suggest a shift of research focus to the individual level when examining virtual phenomena and theorize that online social networking can enhance individual virtual competence in some aspects. Second, we replicate and advance the prior competence literature by linking each component of virtual competence and objective task performance. The results of this study provide useful insights into how human resource responsibilities assess employees' weakness and strength when they organize virtualized groups or projects. Furthermore, it provides managers with insights into the kinds of development or training programs that they can engage in with their employees to advance their ability to undertake virtual work.

Objective : This is a descriptive study using a program review collaborative group program by special educator and occupational therapist for supporting children's school tasks, and it is designed to explore how changed school performance skills and to analyze how applied intervention methods including sensory integrative approach. Methods : Participants were 6 male elementary students(5 = 1st grade, 1 = 2nd grade). Pilot program had reviewed and its results used as base for planning main program. Main program was implemented by collaborative process with teacher and occupational therapist for 1 year. School AMPS was used to assess school task participants, and informal motor and process skill observation was used to assess self-help activities. Description of records by professions about intervention strategies through assessments was described as qualitative way. Japanese sensory inventory was used by parents. Results : Through the collaborative process, assessing children, planning and modifying program, establishing intervention strategies were implemented. Self-help abilities in group program were increased much more independently. School task abilities were increased slightly but skills changed irregularly and unexpectedly and their reasons became considered more complex from sensory processing reasons to social and emotional reasons. Conclusion : Sensory integration had benefits for primary group program and more complex intervention strategies became to emerge demands for person- environment-task challenges. Collaborative practice with teacher and occupational therapist was supplement and synergic effect for children and group dynamics. More objective and comprehensive methods for measure collaboration and group effect would be needed in further study.
