Adaptive High-order Variation De-noising Method for Edge Detection with Wavelet Coefficients

  • This study discusses the high-order diffusion method in the wavelet domain. It aims to improve the edge protection capability of the high-order diffusion method using wavelet coefficients that can reflect image information. During the first step of the proposed diffusion method, the wavelet packet decomposition is a more refined decomposition method that can extract the texture and structure information of the image at different resolution levels. The high-frequency wavelet coefficients are then used to construct the edge detection function. Subsequently, because accurate wavelet coefficients can more accurately reflect the edges and details of the image information, by introducing the idea of state weight, a scheme for recovering wavelet coefficients is proposed. Finally, the edge detection function is constructed by the module of the wavelet coefficients to guide high-order diffusion, the denoised image is obtained. The experimental results showed that the method presented in this study improves the denoising ability of the high-order diffusion model, and the edge protection index (SSIM) outperforms the main methods, including the block matching and 3D collaborative filtering (BM3D) and the deep learning-based image processing methods. For images with rich textural details, the present method improves the clarity of the obtained images and the completeness of the edges, demonstrating its advantages in denoising and edge protection.

  • 본 논문에서는 고속 데이터 전송을 요구하는 과학기술 어플리케이션들의 특성을 살펴보고, 이러한 어플리케이션들의 종단 간 성능향상을 위하여 필요한 요소로써, 디스크 액세스의 고속화, 전송 프로토콜의 고속화, 광 전용 회선 서비스를 제시하였다. 제시된 성능향상 요소를 만족시킨 테스트베드를 구성하고 성능을 측정하였으며, 한국과 미국 간 최대 4.7 Gbps 의 데이터 전송률을 보여주었다.

  • 네트워크 기술과 멀티미디어 압축 기술이 발달함에 따라 사용자들은 고화질의 멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 무선 환경에서도 끊김 없이 제공 받기를 원하고 있다. 또한, 스마트폰과 스마트패드와 같은 다양한 멀티미디어 장치가 일상생활에서 보편적으로 사용되면서 디바이스 간에 끊김 없는 미디어의 연동을 가능케 하는 N-스크린 서비스가 점차 확산되고 있다. 이러한 시장의 흐름에 발맞춰 JCT-VC (Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding)는 차세대 동영상 압축 표준 기술인 HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding)를 바탕으로 공간적 (Spatial), 화질적 (Temporal) 스케일러빌리티 (Scalability)를 제공하는 확장 표준인 SHVC (Scalable HEVC)를 표준화 중에 있다. JCT-VC는 SHVC 부호화 기술들을 평가하기 위하여 SCE (Scalable Core Experiment)를 진행하고 있으며, SHVC 표준은 2014년 6월에 표준화가 완료 될 것으로 예상된다. 본 고에서는 비디오 스케일 러빌리티의 기본 개념 및 SHVC 표준화 과정에서 제안된 주요부호화 기술들과 이슈들을 소개한다.

  • The tourist industry is expecially one of the successful areas for the application of electronic commerce because it is an information-intensive and consumer-oriented industry where information and services play a large part in transaction processes. A electronic tourism market which integrates tourist information systems, reservation systems, and real-time broadcasting systems based on the Internet Web was developed by a collaborative team of Dongguk University and Daou Tech. Inc. with sponsorship of Kyongbuk province and Minister of Information Communications of Korea. Based on the development case of the system, this paper proposes development and operations strategies of electronic market in the tourist industry. The paper reviews the development strategies in the perspective of potential travelers, technology, cooperation among players, and development methodology. The paper also discusses strategies which are able to be employed as the guideline in order to operate the system.

  • Mark Weiser introduced ubiquitous computing in his article titled 'The computer for 21st Century' in 1991. This has been new paradigm after internet. Now, the rapid development of mobile computer, wireless network, and intelligent system has supported ubiquitous computing environment. In the related area of information science, the researchers have studied on ubiquitous computing. But in the field of Korea statistics, this research has not been worked yet. So, we proposed the connection between statistics and ubiquitous computing in this paper. As an example, we showed an efficient cache hoarding for ubiquitous computing using statistical methods. In experimental results, we verified our proposed issue.

스마트폰을 위한 동영상 압축 기술

  • 스마트폰이 대중화되면서 이동통신 시장은 일대 혁신을 맞이했다. 최근 출시되는 스마트폰이 크고 선명한 화면과 빠른 프로세서를 잇따라 탑재하면서 고해상도 및 고품질 영상에 대한 사용자들의 수요가 급증하고 있다. 하지만 고해상도 및 고품질 영상은 데이터의 양이 방대하므로 실제 서비스 적용을 위해서는 데이터 통신 트래픽의 증가 및 저장 공간의 한계로 인한 문제를 해결해야 한다. 이에 따라 MPEG과 VCEG은 JCT-VC(joint collaborative team on video coding)를 설립하고 차세대 비디오 압축 표준인 HEVC(high efficiency video coding)의 국제 표준화 작업을 시작했다. 2010년 4월에 시작된 JCT-VC 회의는 최근 제 7차 회의까지 진행되었으며, 향후 2013년 1월까지 최종 국제 규격안(final draft international standard, FDIS)이 제정될 예정이다. 이 논문에서는 HEVC의 표준화 과정, 요구사항, 실험 영상 및 부호화 모드, 응용 분야, 최신 표준화 동향 등을 알아본다.

Distributed Decision-Making in Wireless Sensor Networks for Online Structural Health Monitoring

  • In a wireless sensor network (WSN) setting, this paper presents a distributed decision-making framework and illustrates its application in an online structural health monitoring (SHM) system. The objective is to recover a damage severity vector, which identifies, localizes, and quantifies damages in a structure, via distributive and collaborative decision-making among wireless sensors. Observing the fact that damages are generally scarce in a structure, this paper develops a nonlinear 0-norm minimization formulation to recover the sparse damage severity vector, then relaxes it to a linear and distributively tractable one. An optimal algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and a heuristic distributed linear programming (DLP) algorithm are proposed to estimate the damage severity vector distributively. By limiting sensors to exchange information among neighboring sensors, the distributed decision-making algorithms reduce communication costs, thus alleviate the channel interference and prolong the network lifetime. Simulation results in monitoring a steel frame structure prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Quantum Sensing Research: A Scientometric Assessment of Global Publications during 1991-2020

  • The study presents a global research scenario in the domain of quantum sensing in quantitative and qualitative terms. The study is based on an analysis of 588 global publications in the field, sourced from the Scopus database for the period 1991-2020. The study identified key countries, organizations and authors, network collaborative linkages at national, institutional, and author level. In addition, it identified broad subject areas intersecting quantum sensing research, key journals for research communications, and broad characteristics of highly-cited papers. The study finds that the USA and Germany lead the world ranking in quantum sensing research with a combined share of 50% to the global output. The USA, Germany, and Italy are the home countries to 13 of the top 15 most productive organizations, and also the home countries to 14 of the top 15 most productive authors in the subject. The top journals publishing most research publications are Physical Review A, Physical Review Letters and New Journal of Physics. However, in the most cited journals list in the subject, Agriculture & Forest Meterology, Science and Physical Review A tops the list.

  • 5G AgiLe and fLexible integration of SaTellite And cellulaR (5G-ALLSTAR) is a Korea-Europe (KR-EU) collaborative project for developing multi-connectivity (MC) technologies that integrate cellular and satellite networks to provide seamless, reliable, and ubiquitous broadband communication services and improve service continuity for 5G and beyond. The main scope of this project entails the prototype development of a millimeter-wave 5G New Radio (NR)-based cellular system, an investigation of the feasibility of an NR-based satellite system and its integration with cellular systems, and a study of spectrum sharing and interference management techniques for MC. This article reviews recent research activities and presents preliminary results and a plan for the proof of concept (PoC) of three representative use cases (UCs) and one joint KR-EU UC. The feasibility of each UC and superiority of the developed technologies will be validated with key performance indicators using corresponding PoC platforms. The final achievements of the project are expected to eventually contribute to the technical evolution of 5G, which will pave the road for next-generation communications.

  • 마이크로 칩의 저장능력은 매18개월마다 두 배로 늘어나고, 네트워크 속도 역시 매 9개월마다 두 배로 빨라진다고 하는 보고는 대용량의 데이터와 초고속네트워크를 필요로 하는 응용 연구자들에게 있어 네트워크는 더 이상의 장애물이 아니며 동시에 이러한 응용연구자들의 연구가 네트워크속도의 발전을 더욱 가속화 시킨다고 할 수 있다. 지난 2005년, 한국은 대전-시애틀과 대전-홍콩을 10기가 급의 광 네트워킹으로 연결하는 글로벌 과학기술 협업연구망(GLORIAD)이 개통되면서 대용량의 데이터를 다루는 국내 응용연구자들이 네트워크 속도에 제한받지 않고 다양한 국제 협업연구에 참여할 수 있게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 글로리아드 망을 통해 진행되고 있는 국제 협업연구를 소개하고 특히 지난 슈퍼컴퓨팅 컨퍼런스(SC06) 기간 중에 진행된 VMT시연을 비롯하여, 고에너지물리 시연, 천문데이터전송 및 KISTI와 광주과학 기술원이 공동으로 개발한 저비용 고화질 비디오 재생시연 등을 소개한다.
